Getting us started with our new thread!

Will cut and paste the most up to date list so we know where we are.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

All the best crumpette, am willing things to start on their own for you. Hope you are labouring now and look forward to hearing your news.

flyingma · 08/01/2010 20:46

Cripes this thread moves fast!

Congrats to salvadory + baby Imogen, Mistletoe & baby Nicholas (it's funny reading her post at 10:02 am saying that she wants the baby to come now, that's willpower for you), FoF and baby Edward, theminniebauble & baby Freddie

LOL @ Siochfradha & somewhat re overgrown lady gardens. I really need to get a move on with mine as well as booking in a hairdresser appointment. A new one's opened at the top of the road but with the snow, DH is not letting me walk anywhere so even a simple "I'm just going to the top of the road for a little xyz" has now become a mission with the car etc. Cabin fever setting in...

Ali sorry to hear about the troubles with little Jacob. Echoing what someone else said about bonding activities with him when all's clear. Don't worry too much about it, a friend who is a MW took me aside once to tell me how it can sometimes take a while before you bond with baby - some ppl say it is instant and sometimes coz of circumstances it can take a while and some nurturing but either way, it is not something to beat yourself up about and not to worry. Fingers crossed the LO gets better asap and that you both can start your lovely journey together.

quirkychick Hope they get DD's UTI sorted - my friend's kid got it earlier this year and for some reason the abs were not getting it so she kept getting one UTI after another! Poor thing - it's hard enough when you are old enough to understand what is happening but when you are a child?!

grumpallo I would also echo the acupuncture suggestion as well as reading up on the internet. I recall reading something about hot and cold towels to encourage baby to turn... also yoga teacher used to say lie for 10 mins with your feet up the headboard of your bed/ against a wall in an L-shape. Then go onto all 4's. I am not sure how scientific all that is but I figure anything is worth a try at this point since they can't hurt. CToFN is right - there is still time for bubs to turn the right way. Sending lots of positive turning vibes your way.

CToFN Congrats on being able to see ankles again. Must be a nice feeling. Mine are like strangers.

Ppl are scaring me about the induction stories should I maybe go buy some raspberry leaf tea? Up to this point I was saying that I'd rather the baby came late so that I can finish all that I need to do to get the house ready for guests.

Same with Biccy I had a terrible night's sleep last night. I considered giving up trying and going downstairs to watch telly several times but was quite tired so nearly at the point of tears when baby would not settle on either side or even sat upright. Between that and the ever-more painful BHs, it was a bit of a nightmare frankly. Thankfully DH is being sweet about it and told to me banish the idea of going downstairs so that at least he could get some sleep. We'll see what it's like on the n-th night of him having disturbed sleep from my tossing and turning struggling to get up, groaning and eventually flopping over on the other side.

maygirl · 08/01/2010 21:21

Adding myself back onto the list as have dropped off!!

Congratulations to all the new lovely little ones!! xxx

Good luck for tomorrow Crumpette. If you get going with just a pessary would you still need continuous monitoring? I didn't find the sweeps uncomfy either, lucky as ended up having 4! I was strapped to the bed being induced last time but have been advised this time I can sit on the ball or stand for monitoring if I like. I hope you take off tonight on your own though!

Feeling guilty as had been looking forward to having this my first week of maternity leave, home alone, but the snow has meant DS and DH both home, and I can't swan about shopping and getting myself pampered. Should see it as extra time for me with DS really, but want some head space by myself.
Like yangymac I'd like one or two weeks to get organised, have a doula appointment, exercise and prepare for the baby.

Hoping we can make the drive tomorrow, for night away with DH at our wedding hotel . To postpone a week might be cutting it fine, I'm 37+1 now, but not sure if we'll be able to get the car out tomorrow!

How about the Pampers bed mats biccy, I think they come in small packs of around 7, and can get at supermarket.

Glad Jacob is home ali, have a lovely weekend settling back in with him.

Good luck to anyone else with an arrival this weekend

Biccy · 08/01/2010 22:25

Thanks Maygirl I'd forgotten about the pampers ones, even though I've had them before!

Don't feel guilty about wanting to be home alone, I think quite a few of us are feeling that way. I was really miffed when DP didn't go to work earlier in the week due to snow... just wanted hime out of my way! Feel a bit bad because I'm not spending time in the evenings with him, but am mainly organising things (just did a really good tidy up in our bedroom, having assembled the crib earlier today, so now it feels like a peaceful haven, thank goodness. Just got to keep it that way now!)

Flyingma, when are you due? I can't see you on the list... hope you get a better night tonight; hope we both do - I've got massive plans to sort all the other trashy corners of the house tomorrow!

sockmonkey · 09/01/2010 07:28

Good Luck today Crumpette Thinking of you.

I'm a bit miffed too. DS2 was supposed to start full days at school this Tuesday, but because school has been closed most of the week they have said half days next week until Thursday. DS2 is upset because he just wants to stay all day like his brother, and I'm upset cos it's messed up MW appt on Tuesday, and I have to do 3 trips to school and back (in the snow!), and ... slightly selfishly I was looking forward to having a few hours to myself after having the boys and DH home for pretty much the whole last month.

I know it's no biggie in the grand scheme of things, and other people have waaaay worse problems, but I do feel sorry for myself.

Hi all, I joined this thread months ago but keep lurking instead of post (sorry)

I have updated the list with my new name and due date.

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies already - You lucky things!!

Im now 37 weeks and have had enough! Dd is 19mo old now and isnt as mature as we thought she would be near dd IYSWIM. Its starting to worry us a bit!!

somewhathorrified · 09/01/2010 11:35

biccy I got boots own incontinence sheets 5 for £2.99 and a packet of 2 dust sheets from a pound shop (you can get them all over though (sainsbury's, tesco, wilkinson etc). I also got 2 shower curtains from asda (about £1.50 ea) as they are supposedly quite good for something a bit more hardwearing (dust sheets can rip easily).

crumpette good luck for today, hope all goes well.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 09/01/2010 12:12

MistletoeKisses being discharged from hospital today so she can make it home before the next snow hits. She sounds very happy and no doubt will be back posting again soon.

nomorebooze · 09/01/2010 12:55

Hi peeps!
huge congrats to salvadory and mistletoe on the arrival of there wee ones, hope everyone is doing well? the arrived section is filling up quickly now! whos gonna be next?????????
Megan doing well , shes such a little sweety!! one of her eyes is a little crusty! been bathing it in sterile water hope it clears up as still snowed in. will have to phone docs on monday if no better. apart from that, motherhood progressing well!

thegrumpallo · 09/01/2010 14:42

congratulations to the latest arrivals!

commiserations with those who are now getting more and more overdue! unless of course like me you're quite happy for bubs to stay put til weather improves...

thanks also for all the advice re breech baby. we had scan yesterday which showed that she is head down. hmmm. she is still very active though, so hope she stays that way! the sonographer assured me there's no way she can turn back ; also weight estimated to be 3.3kg /7lbs11 might stop eating now...

flyingma · 09/01/2010 16:21

Biccy Monday 11 is my day - for some reason I keep on getting taken off the list!! We're supposed to be getting fresh snowfall Sunday and Monday so am going to sit on the ball today and then keep legs crossed tomorrow.

yangymac Good luck with the clear out and I think you are right, you really need her out of the house when you are doing that. Heck DH and I should really do that to each other - I'm sure we would not be in this mess (junk everywhere) if we did.

Mama2b5 Hope the baby shower goes well.

Ladies who are feeling guilty about wanting time to yourselves, don't go on a guilt trip. It's perfectly natural to want that time and it does not make you a bad partner/ parent. In the next few weeks and months our lives will cease to be ours and be LO's instead so I think we are entitled to at least feel frustrated when me time is cut short! Still tho, do try to make DHs understand the need for this time.

Managed to drag DH out today to B&Q for the last few bits we need. Now to get the builder in to finish up. Fell in love with some birdy children's lights they have on sale there at the moment but spotlights aren't a good idea for the nursery are they?

totalmisfit · 09/01/2010 16:38

hi all, haven't been on here in yonks. wow - congratulations to all the new mums! I still have 11 days to go, and apart from getting to the shooting pains/ uncomfortable wobbling stage no news to report.

We've planned our homebirth with the local midwifery team, but have been told there's a strong chance they'll be too short staffed. Hired a doula too, but she's bloody miles away in the next county and i'm starting to worry she won't make it if the weather carries on like this (we're pretty snowed in and remote here in darkest north norfolk!)

Moods up and down, hoping i won't get PND this time (hopefully i'll be too busy to be depressed with 2 to look after!). Currently trawling the web trying to decide on re-usable nappies of some kind... feel very disorganised and chaotic ( would help if i could get out of the house a bit more, but the ice and compacted snow is pretty lethal round here - and we're by the coast which you would think would help to melt the darn stuff!)

natapillar · 09/01/2010 16:45

i really don't care about the snow now,i just want baby out!!!! even if i have to give birth on the kitchen floor!

bethoo · 09/01/2010 17:24

feeling a bit deflated and dont think baby will ever come now. am now 6 days overdue and constant cramps and achey inner thighs and sore fanjo. had membrane sweep on thursday at 4 days overdue only to be told cervix not ready and membrane still really thick so mw thinks another week. will have another sweep on monday and if still no change then induction will be discussed. just fed up with it all now.
anyway congrats to everone who has had their little ones xx

flyingma · 09/01/2010 18:11

Bethoo, go find some choccie or something to make yourself feel better! Fingers crossed for you. Am trying not to fixate on my due date. DH seems to think it means something despite my best efforts to tell him otherwise - at least he now has his bag packed.

skidoodle · 09/01/2010 18:17

Congratulations MinnieBauble, FlightofFancy, salvadory and MistletoeKisses

I am now booked in for an ELCS on Thursday. Not what I wanted but baby transverse and showing no signs of moving, so I guess that's the decision made.

Had an EMCS the last time, so feeling a bit of a failure for not seemingly being able to deliver a baby naturally. Very silly I know, but just bit disappointed and self-indulgent at the moment.

Hi everyone else

skidoodle - oh, dont beat yourself up. At least this time it will be calm and planned. Once baby is here that is all what matters. Its been taken out of your hands now and just focus on seeing that little face come over the screen for you to give a big massive kiss to

I dont know much about birthing a transverse baby but for them to say you have to have a c-sec then it must always end up that way.

Does anyone know of anyone who gave birth naturally to a transverse baby? Maybe you could start another thread to see.

You then say that you want to at least try birthing by yourself and if its not happening then have a c-sec. Some hospitals are more prone to sayng c-sec for so many things whilst others will try other things first. I thought too they say that babies can change position many times during labour.

Does transverse mean lying across the womb? Is it not possible the baby could turn head down at any point?

Maybe because of your history with your previous birth they are not willing to allow you to labour first to see, but if you feel you want to then see if you can speak to someone.

My sister who is 6 weeks behind me had a an emergency csec last time and they refused for her to use the midwife led unit at the hospital and was told her had to be monitored throughout. Everytime she was told this. But she asked to speak to someone because she was determined to not have a c-sec again.

She spoke last week to a really nice mw who took her notes out again and sat down with her and went through them slowly. Seh said there was no reason she could not go on the mid wife lef unit and she did not need constant monitoring. She said if she is on shift then she will fight her case but if not then its up to my sister and her partner to be strong and say what they want.

I think its always worth speaking to a few people to get a few points of view.

Good luck x

I was awake with period pains from 4am and started thinking this was it. They came every 30 mins and then every 15 mins but were not too painful and carried on until about 9am and then stopped? So I have tried to keep my mind off it today because I am getting so impatient and can not bare the thought of going past 27th - feels so far away!!!

Hope everyone is well including all the babies especially Jacob x

skidoodle don't beat yourself up. I had an EMCS with DD 3 years ago after 26 hours in labour and was told in no uncertain terms that I would never be able to deliver a baby "normally". It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that, not only could I not get pregnant without medical help, I couldn't even manage to deliver a baby!

I'm having an elective section this time and I did struggle to come to terms with it. I even approached the subject of a trial of labour with my Consultant. He smiled and said "No"! But the aim of this pregnancy is to have a healthy baby. DD's Godparents can't have children, and although they have adopted, I know they are envious of the fact that we can.

Basically, what I am trying to say in a very long winded way is the delivery of your baby is only a point on a very long journey with our children and actually, in the scheme of things is a very minor part. Even though it feels like the be all and end all at the moment, you soon forget it. How they came into the world isn't important. 2 friends of mine who had sections first time round both ended up having second sections, so please don't feel like a failure. I am very envious of the fact that you will be meeting your baby soon, I've got to wait 2 weeks and would quite happily deliver tomorrow if I could!

Hi all

Jumping on quickly, will catch up on all the news later.

CTFN - thanks for updating the thread and also your lovely texts checking in on me.

Things did indeed happen very quickly on Thurs. On weds evening, I started getting all the aches and they continued into Thurs morning. When they didnt die off, I called the delivery suite and they asked me to head straight in. I got a call from my consultant as I left home to ask me to take my pre op meds, take no more water and food and that with the symptoms I had, he was pretty certain that I would be delivered. Snow actually worked in our favour, as roads were very quiet and made it to the hospital in 45 mins, normally takes at least 30 mins more than that! I was taken straight in,examined and they confirmed that the monitor was showing contractions and I was 2cm dliated. I was in theatre being prepped an hour later! It all happened so suddenly, our heads were spinning. The section was lovely, was a 'natural section' so he was skin to skin straightaway and breastfeeding by the time we were taken to recovery.

Touchwood we both seem to be doing great. I was up and having a wash by 10pm the night of the OP and Nico has been feeding wonderfully. On that basis (and on account of the threatened snowfall heading our way), my consultant was happy to discharge me today! Despite recovering from an operation, I feel great, and is lovely to have my little boy here!

Hugs to everyone, plan to catch up on news tomorrow and some zzzz's now!

Thank you both, so much. I really appreciate your kind words.

devotion what you said didn't come across harshly at all. I think I deserve a bit of a kick in the arse though. I'm being silly, I know I am.

It's not possible to deliver a transverse baby AFAIK. It's not like a breech baby - there is no head or bum to block the cervix, so there is a risk of prolapsed cord, which is dangerous and also the baby just can't come out that way apparently.

I'll be 40+1 when they do the section, so I think they've given the baby plenty of time to move. It basically hasn't at all since around 34 weeks.

Very interesting about your sister. Before this happened I was really trying to see if I could get them to let me into the Home from Home (midwife led) unit, but there was no budging them. I was quite rubbish at standing up for what I wanted and was even considering caving in about CFM even though I really, really wasn't willing to have that.

I really hope things go well for her. A friend of mine recently had a successful VBAC and it was all very straightforward (and no pain relief at all, which is impressive.

That is fun that you guys will have babies so close in age. My sis and I have been 4 months apart in both our pregnancies. Cousintastic

Fifi

You are totally right. The birth is not the most important bit. The safe arrival of the baby is what matters.

I'm going to focus on that from now on, and also the fact that in just 5 days I won't be pregnant any more

All best wishes for your ELCS
