If I was forced to bet, I'd bet on boy for me this time round.

The last thing on my mind when I was in labour last time was the state of my pubic hair. I think to be fair it's not the first thing on the MW's minds either.

Congrats to salv and fab name too.

Ive had a theory that every year there is either more boys or more girls. Not necessarily Jan-Dec but long spates of either.

Have noticed it for about 5 years now.

When I had DS, the other 5 girls in my antenatal group all had boys bar 1, 5 boys 1 girl.

This year, I had 8 friends have babies and only one was a boy. I had to buy 5 girls gifts in sept alone!

OK, not very scientific but there you go!!

CTFN Olivia was violently sick after infacol and feed last night. I remember it made my DS more sick but he had reflux anyway. Do you find your Olivia is more sick with it?

I'm getting lots of painful Braxton Hicks now and dull ache in my lower back. I am praying this is just a gear up - if I go into labour in this weather I won't be able to go to Crowborough as it's pretty much cut off by snow

Afternoon ladies just a quick post to let you all know that I'm back from spending the week in hospital with Jacob
Turns out his little cough was broncholitis and he up until 5 this morning was on oxygen
At the beginning of the week he needed to be tube fed as his breathing was so bad he didn't have the energy to do anything.
I'll catch up properly later x x

NEWSFLASH NEWSFLASH!!

Just had a text from MistletoeKisses!

She gave birth to a little boy, Nicolas, at 13.48 today, weighing 6lb 8oz. Both are doing great!

Such wonderful news. So much for Braxton Hicks! She was a planned section so this must have all happened very fast from her post this morning.

Dd has just developed a uti and the gps is shut this pm. I will have to try to get an appointment tomorrow am as pm I have my pre-op appointment at the hospital. Great timing! Poor little thing, she has been waking us in the night to go, which is very unusual, and is now passing some blood .

Alibobins, hope Jacob gets better soon, you seem to have had quite a tough time with your little man.

Congrats too to salvadory and nomorebooze!

I am 37 weeks today, so officially full term. Spent most of the day on my exercise ball and checking MN!!! Very cold here but no more snow, actually made it out for a walk.

Ali Oh my goodness poor little Jacob. He really is having a rough time of it (and you) Hope the oxygen therapy is helping and he recovers quickly.

quirky good luck with the docs and your daughter. I'm sure she'll be better soon.

Congratulations to all the ladies who's babies have arrived
Can't believe that Jacob will be 4 weeks tomorrow it goes so quickly.
We are home (thank goodness) Jacob just needed to be off the oxygen for 6 hours and he did really well when they took it off him. We got to have a check up next wednesday but we have been told that the cough could last a few weeks.
I just feel that I haven't got to know Jacob and sometimes feel like he's not mine I know that sounds strange but surrounded by tubes and monitors and nurses there wasn't muc for me to do

alibobins - oh I am so sorry to hear you are going through all this so soon after he arrived the poor little fella.

the main thing is try to remain positive, these weeks will fly by, he will load on some weight and get stronger and healthier. you will look back and it will feel like such a long time ago.

it must be hard for you because all this interference with having to take him to hospital etc. But soon it will be over and you and him can spend all the hours you want catching up and getting to know each other better. He knows who his mummy is so dont worry

When he is well, have lots of warm baths together, lots of skin to skin cuddles and see if your local baby weighing in clinic have postnatal classes like baby massage. These are lovely for increasing the bonding process. My dd2 had reflux and was such a hard baby, I remember when she was about 5/6 weeks I even said I was tempted to sell her on ebay - terrible mum i was! I didnt really mean it but it was a rough patch for me. The massage class was just an introductory one and I just copied what I learnt every night after her bath.

I really looked forward to shutting us both away in a cosy roo, nice music and gave her a whole body massage. She loved it and would like there staring at me, it was a really calm and special time for us both. She let me do it until she was about 10 mths and then decided life was too interesting to lie still for more than 5 mins.

Sending you lots of love and hugs x x x x

hello ladies

haven't posted for a while and have now so much to catch up on!

many congratulations to all the new arrivals! it's all becoming a bit real now...

am having a bit of a time here. tomorrow, at 38 +5wks am having a scan to check the baby's position as MW after weeks of insisting baby cephalic and even 3/5 engaged now not at all sure, and thinks she might be breech.

I'm really stressed because I have no idea now what's going to happen. should i try to deliver naturally even if she's breech? go for csection?? mw mentioned manually turning baby, but does that work???

blerggh. she is no.3 btw. have never been here. really quite scared. . is that silly???

Biccy · 07/01/2010 20:30

Congratulations mistletoekisses! Another gorgeous girl.

grumpallo I don't blame you for being scared. I really don't know what I would do if I found I had a breech baby - I think I'd be tempted to go for a natural delivery anyway - would all depend on the exact position (e.g. whether you'd be talking a leg first or a bottom). But I saw a wonderful film about Michel Odent, and a woman gave birth to a breech baby, first one foot, then the other, and it was so calm; really amazing. I'm sure once they do the scan tomorrow, if the baby is breech they will give you advice on your options - and then it'll be time to start googling. Will keep my fingers crossed she is cephalic after all.

crumpette, sending you labour vibes; hope it starts soon for you. And Happy Birthday from me. So sorry your DP is being such an arse at the moment. There's no excuse really, but it does sound like his way of coping when you lost your dd was to shut it out and pretend it wasn't happening, and he's doing it again, perhaps because he's scared that the birth of another baby is going to open a door he's trying to keep shut; sorry for the armchair psychology - it must be an extremely emotional time for both you.

Got my hb result this evening and it is 10.7; woo hoo! Very excited, as this means (aside from anything to do with snow) that I'm back on the list for home birth. So, really need to make my mind up about pools and go for it if I'm to have any chance of getting one here in time.

grumpallo - I saw a documentary about acupuncture ages ago that seemed to say that they could turn babies by burning some funny sort of incense stuff. I have never done acupuncture, so I don't know how useful this is.

Not wanting to make light of your anxiety (I'm really anxious about the birth of mine too - and for no reason - and it's my third too) - a bonkers friend read that if you play hard rock at the head end and classical music down below the baby will turn towards the gentler music -

Report
devotion · 07/01/2010 22:19

grumpallo - my friends baby was breech at 38 weeks, they said she should have c-sec as it was a big baby but first they would try turn him. when she went in for that, he had already turned by himself. so hopefully that will happen.

i think i would personally like to try and have a natural birth if the midwives back me. i've seen a few breech baby clips on you tube, have a look.

here is a good one:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD5939e5PZ8&feature=related

You need to feel 100% happy with your decision though and I would probably not try it at home.

Good luck! x

grumpallo - I would echo the acupuncture. My mother's fifth baby was breech. She was determined to have a home birth (her exact words were "I would rather die in labour than go into a hospital ever again") so she went down every route to get baby to turn. Apparently baby was off the chart length-wise which was why got stuck in breech position. She used the acupuncture as a bit of a last resort really but baby turned litterally two hours later and she went into labour the next day.

Thought I'd share that hopefully it might work the same for you. Good Luck.

Cograts to Mistletoekisses - lovely to have a snow baby.

Ali really hope Jacob is on the mend now. It must be really stressful for you - hopefully you'll be able to have lots of bonding time in the coming weeks.

Just a quick one to announce arrival of another slightly early Jan baby (on lap/thinking about boob, so apols for poor typing).

Baby Edward arrived on 5th Jan - was due 23rd! Weighed in at 6lbs 14oz, so not bad for 37+3 - glad he didn't have another three weeks to cook!

Quick birth story...
He's my first, so wasn't sure what to expect.
Waters broke (all over the bathroom floor!) on Monday night at about 8pm - phoned hospital and was asked to come in to be monitored for an hour. All was going well with baby, and I was apparently having contractions every 5 mins, though couldn't really feel them at that stage. Was sent home about 10pm to await progress (had to go to Tesco on way home as hadn't bought any nappies/maternity towels yet!). Was expecting a long wait, but by time had got home and packed hosp bag (and DH had rushed home from dinner with friends in London - I'd seriously considered going!) was getting really tough. Thought I was being a wimp, but on timing contractions they were between 2-3 mins apart, so went back to hosp. Got there at around 1am, and already 4cm dilated - was all go from there and he was born at 4.22am. Just gas & air as no time for anything else - they ran the birthing pool for me, but by the time it was ready I said I couldn't get across the corridor to it and quick check showed I was ready to push!

Bit of a shock as wasn't expecting to be early or that quick. Had a couple of days in hosp as lost a bit of blood - tiny episiotomy nicked a blood vessel. Home now and trying to get to grips with it all (and now need to create the nursery - was supposed to be doing it while on maternity leave over next few weeks!).

Sneaked in to hosp before snow, and DH was very lucky that friends from NCT were in at the same time and have 4x4 so could get in to visit me(was nice to have friend on ward as well!). Also had friends with 4x4 come and collect us as all still snowed in (Guildford was even on news while I was in hosp for deep snow - was lovely to look at out of window of warm ward!).

Congrats to everyone else with new babies and quick labour vibes sent to everyone else! Will catch up over next few days while feeding hopefully!

ampster · 08/01/2010 10:35
