Morning all, just dropping on quickly to say good luck to all those waiting for their babies to put in an appearance.

I have been awake since 4am after finally dropping off to sleep at 1am, so am totally knackered with a pounding headache. I just hope that I can take some paracetamol when I get to the hospital!

I'm just off to the hospital for my ELCS. Here's hoping that baby fifi will be here as promised, first on the list and delivered by my lovely consultant!

CTOFN thanks for your good wishes. The irony of a last supper is that I couldn't eat anything because I felt so sick! Of course having been up since 4am, I am now starving! Oh well, off I go, whoever said ELCS were the easy option was not totally correct!

Will be back when I get home from hospital, but I may get Mr Fifi to post tonight, if he has a moment.

Fibilou · 25/01/2010 07:14

1 day overdue now and feeling pretty irritable due to constant barrage of phone calls (mainly from MIL asking "have you had any signs yet). DH keeps asking "why isn't she here yet" like I have some sort of crystal ball and am actually deliberately not giving birth. We went out yesterday to a garden centre, we are going down the allotment today in the hope that some fresh air and exercise might get her looking for the exit.

sockmonkey · 25/01/2010 08:11

41 weeks today.

I am betting bub will have to be evicted at this rate. Still no signs at all. I'm seeing MW tomorrow who should hopefully give me a date.
DS2 giving me plenty practice for the sleepless nights "No it's not time to get up yet, it's 2am...3.30am...4am".
Still DH is back at work today, boys will be at school, so hopefully I can get a nice long nap in at some point today.

Hope all goes well fifi. Sending happy birth vibes!

mama2moo · 25/01/2010 08:48

fifi Good luck

partyofsix Sounds promising, good luck

devotion Yep, the baby can stay in for as long as she likes - I dont care anymore

Im 39+3 now. If this baby is anything like dd it will be born on Wednesday - I wish!

My parents are having dd for me today which is going to be lovely. I have a day of cleaning planned! (and maybe a nap!)

Biccy · 25/01/2010 10:47

Hi all, sorry, not read other people's posts properly this morning as just popped on to update you on our exciting evening, which resulted in no baby...

Started having contractions about 3-4 mins apart at about 1 o'clock. Farmed dd off, got myself home, got dp back. Paged midwife about 4pm, having contractions up to 2 mins apart. She came and saw me. Said her instinct was it was happening. Told us to fill the pool, went off to get her kit.

Was violently sick just before she arrived, and contractions dropped off, and my heart rate was a bit on the high side as was baby's, but she thought it was just all the bustle of getting sorted.

Paged again about 9.30, contractions every 1 to 2 mins; spoke to hospital midwife who called my midwife who came straight over. We're all thinking it's about to happen. Had internal before getting in pool and... cervix hadn't opened a millimetre. Midwife unconcerned, said she's seen it before, just wait a bit and it would probably spring open v quickly.

Anyway, contractions eased off again. Was violently sick again. My heart rate over 130 and baby's also too high, and constantly at about 180. So, up to the assessment unit, rigged up to monitors; everything settled down and eventually sent home about 2am. Went to bed, and contractions have gone totally now.

We're all very confused as to what happened, as the midwives were sure I was in full blown labour, but it's probably that I got too dehydrated with the sickness and body decided against the whole idea after all.

So now we have a house covered in sheets and plastic and don't know if it's worth tidying up, only to do it all again tonight... or what? Really peculiar. Still, baby is fine, I am fine and everyone is still happy for me to birth at home - when it really does happen!

Am feeling quite teary, as I really thought I was about to meet my babe, but there we go, was not to be.

mama2moo · 25/01/2010 11:57

biccy OMG. Did the mw say if she had any idea on if the real thing will happen soon? Fingers crossed for you.

Dd has gone for the day! My clary sage has just been delivered so Im off for a bath!!

I have made plans for this week - Cinema tomorrow night (am looking forward to scoffing my face on ice cream and chocolate for the last time!) and a friend is coming over on Wednesday. Im hoping that something will happen to ruin it!!!

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 25/01/2010 12:02

Hi all

biccy I am in same postion, really thought it was kicking off last night, tried to rest about 1pm and woke up this morning with no signs. Got to go to hosp tomorrow to discuss induction, so am worried I won't get my water birth but I am so ready for this bub I just want snuggles. As a result of being in full blown painful contractions when kids went to bed, they have gone to school very disappointed.

After having false starts for about 6wks now every night ,I was convinced last night were the real thing. Don't be too teary we must be right on the verge, especially at 1-2mins, mine got to 8mins apart. fingers crossed for both of us today.

Good luck to anyone else labouring, and hi to everyone.

40+9

Biccy · 25/01/2010 15:00

Hi all
Hope CS went okay today Fifi.
mama2moo, midwife did say not to deflate the pool, just empty it, as it may happen tonight... but I'm not holding my breath. TBH I am feeling pretty rubbish; struggling to rehydrate, sore throat, blocked nose etc and desperate for some sleep, so I think it would be best if it held off anyway for a bit at least so I can recover.
partyofsix, how annoying for you too; I really empathise re disappointed DCs and just wanting snuggles now. Friends who DD stayed with yesterday dropped her at preschool, then DP and I went to get her, and the first thing she said was 'is this the day the baby comes?'. Hasn't had a paddy though, and is most interested in the pool (it is empty).
Just wish DP could be here to look after dd, but he has had to go back to work so I'm on my own. Hey ho. Off to see the midwife now.
Good luck ladies, really hoping somebody gets going soon.
No word from devotion today....

Biccy · 25/01/2010 16:16

Well, they have sent one of the midwives home to get some sleep in case it's tonight for me... and it's the midwife who delivered dd, so that would be lovely. Am considering a walk now to see if that will help!

mama2moo · 25/01/2010 16:22

biccy Fingers crossed it happens tonight. That would be so nice if that mw delivered this baby as well. Can you get some sleep once your dp gets home from work just in case?

Ooooh, I wonder where devotion is.

I had my clary sage bath and it has done nothing. It smells nice though!

I hope everyone has had their babies before this thread fills up

yangymac What a nightmare, fingers crossed for you tonight as well. Are you due on Friday like me?

What is it with these 2nd babies? Nobody warns you about any of this until its too late! I am getting really worried about getting false alarms like everyone else. Another reason that dp is banned from texting anyone when I go into labour!

I am also getting more jealous of the lovely ladies and their babies on the post natal thread If we go over due do we have to join the Feb one??

devotion · 25/01/2010 16:54

No... still here i'm afraid.

Biccy that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating for you!

My night was nowhere as near exciting but we all seem to have littles teasers inside us.

I am absolutely shattered today, read until almost 12 last night in bed. As soon as lights out the contractions started but where not taht painful so did not even time them. But I could not sleep through them.

From about 2am they started getting painful but I continued to ignore them then finally at 3am I started to feel hungry so got up and ate some cereal, felt like i needed a poo but could not go even though the last few days I've had very loose stools. I then started to worry it was the babies head because the contractions were getting painful.

Then at around 4am - stopped!

So got into bed and eventually fell asleep... will i ever get any sleep before this baby actually decides to come out and stop messing around?

Then! Today dd1 at school, dd2 at nursery so I had reflexology, came home had lunch was about to go to catch up on much needed sleep only to have to deal with my neighbour who has dementia. Lately, she is depending on me more and more. She was fine a few months ago and a lovely neighbour, she has no family.

I have to constantly call social services and her gp, she keeps leaving her flat not dressed etc. Normally I could deal with this no problem and be happy to but i just dont have the energy and i'm 40 weeks pregnany? The gp and social services are just taking so long to do anything!!!
Arghhhh!

Everytime i come on here I moan, i promise no more moaning

FifiForgot - hope you are holding your little bundle of joy x

yangymac hurry had a boy called William on Saturday, all is fine

devotion I was so hoping things had happened for you. Your neighbour sounds like a pain in the bum. Maybe try phoning the police the next time something happens, that should get the social moving. Its not fair that its up to you but sad that she doesnt have any family.

I so want to have my baby to cuddle now. I cant wait to see my dd's face when she first sees her sister

Biccy · 25/01/2010 18:07

Oh gosh yangymac, you too? And devotion. There must have been something in the air last night that said to all of us getting going 'erm, no ladies, not tonight'. And just like you said yangymac my first labour was so text book, and again, just like you said, I feel like I can't trust my body.

Sorry about your neighbour devotion, that is quite a burden, especially at the moment, and not conducive to relaxing into labour.

mistletoekisses · 25/01/2010 19:12

hi - just popping on to say hi!

what is happening with everyone? i didnt think false starts were possible with second etc labours! shows you what i know!

mama2moo - please dont join another postnatal thread! we have to stay together! would be weird to lose some of you just beacause your bubs held on until feb!

contraction/ birthing vibes to all!

Congratulations to all the new mums, and comiserations to those in stop-start labour.
I feel your pain, I had this with DS, for nearly 2 weeks, contractions for hours during the night, vomiting, the runs, and loads of shows, all the signs. It turned out he was posterior too, with a flexed back head, so the pressure was all in the wrong place to dilate my cervix, but body tried to labour time and time again. Utterly demoralising I ended up with induction at 40+15, but even this didn't shift him, his position was so bad, he was large and my first baby, all was against us. I wish I'd had some help with optimal fetal positioning earlier, I've since seen there are techniques to shift the head out of the pelvis a bit before doing lots of all fours to swing them into an anterior position, maybe worth checking out when you're not too shattered. One is called the rebozo technique, it's mentioned on the spinningbabies site and there are vidoes on other websites too.
No signs here so far, starting to think about getting some long walks done, and hoping the full moon theory is correct, there's one this weekend!

Good luck everyone xx

mama2moo · 25/01/2010 20:24

Well, I have had my 2nd clary sage bath of the day - Is that allowed?? I dont think for a minute it will do anything but I am willing to try anything!

I feel a bit weird now and have been getting bump tightenings that I havent had before.

I actually want the baby to stay in for a few days as I really want to go to the cinema tomorrow night! Its the 1st (and last) time in a long time that dp and I will have been out together. And, I want my Ben and Jerrys with hot chocolate sauce!

Good luck for anyone who goes into labour for real tonight - I hope there are no false starts again for anyone

This one is moving from side to side alot too yangymac, I'm trying not to worry, and just do my best to never slouch backwards!

A tip I did use at the time which did actually work for getting some sleep during prodromal labour was to have a small alcoholic drink and eat something with tryptophan like a turkey sandwich. I had a tiny glass of port, (only alcohol we had in), some chicken (had no turkey, but think is just as good!) and a fresh banana smoothy, consumed in a warm bath and had the best sleep ever during this phase. I also lived with the tens on, got DH to stick it on before going to work in case I should need it.

Hope babies all lining up nicely tonight!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 26/01/2010 07:19

Excellent news re HurryDowntheChimney! Have been reading her "live birth thread" since about 3am due to my daaahling daughter not wanting to sleep! Oh the joys that await you all .

You poor ladies having these stop/start contractions! This really is a thread for going through mill isn't it?! It's absolutely no consolation I know, but your babies will be here soon and all the messing around is BOUND to help the labour in some way... right?

Ha - Olivia is 4 weeks old today and I remember all too well the many weeks before her birth the stop/start is it, isn't it starting scenarios. If men had to do this the population would be very different!

Anyway - lots and lots and lots of patience, birthing vibes and cervix opening thingies sent to you all. The post-natal thread is waiting for you and we are all very patiently not chatting very much until you all make your way over!
