Biccy · 21/01/2010 10:50

Hi all! Couldn't post yesterday as DP working all day (yes, finally!) - such a relief that left the house at a proper time this morning to go and earn some money.

Thankyou mama2b5 for your words of encouragement, your're right, it will be okay, and it's very normal for us, just when my hormones are in flux I find it very hard to cope with [and hormones are definitely in flux, I'm getting spots!] - and even though he hasn't actually done any billing or paid any bills yet, he has turned the corner in terms of seeing how bad things have got and started to do what he needs to do to sort it all out (funny conversation last night with him saying, e.g. 'I haven't billed since June', me 'I know'.. 'I owe so-and-so this much!', me 'I know', etc, felt like an episode of Gavin and Stacey!).

Anyway, hope you have your LO with you now, your last post sound very promising! Re registering, I think if you have the baby in hospital you can normally register the birth before you leave (if you've chosen a name of course), otherwise you have to make an appointment. We took ages (weeks) to name dd, but I got the appointment really quickly once we had decided what we were going for.

CTOFN that was so lovely of your DH, warmed my heart to read it.

Congratulations happybump, lovely news and lovely name.

Ok, I'm actually going to go and put my feet up and read a book for an hour before I have to go and get dd. See if that helps with my current early afternoon slump (I'm okay until 2, but between then and about 4 I just long for sleep).

CantThinkofFunnyName · 21/01/2010 11:17

Health Visitor just been and Olivia now weighs 7lb 4oz at 3 weeks and 2 days old. EXACTLY what DD1 weighed at birth.

And - actually managed to get Olivia on the timed routine I wanted yesterday (feeds at 6, 10, 2, 6, 10, 2, 6 etc.

Let's see if that lasts!!

For now, very happy .

devotion · 21/01/2010 12:34

HappyBump - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fantastic weight for 38+5 weeks.

Hope all is going well for you and family!

Mama2b5 - how exciting! Hope you are ok, look forward to hearing the news.

No more signs here for me except my belly has dropped down as it was quite high, the bottom of it hangs over my trousers now which it was not doing a few days ago so hope that means baby will come soon.

x

devotion · 21/01/2010 15:52

Midwife came for my 39 week check and she offered me the sweep so I said if she could have a feel and if she thinks its worth it then only do it then.

So she had a go and said it was nice and soft and ripe and so did it. It didnt hurt so I guess thats when you know its worth doing.

I told dh after and he told me off! He said I am not due for another 6 days and I should allow nature to do all that especially with all my natural birth reading we've been doing so do you think i was naughty?

I said but my cervix is ready and he said then why do it??? And I had no answer i am just guilty of being too impatient!!!

I did say that if i wasnt ready then not to do it.

I feel a bit bad now!

skidoodle · 21/01/2010 16:11

LOL @ devotion and DH

That is really quite sweet.

You weren't naughty at all. If he were pregnant he'd know how impatient you get towards the end.

Maybe that's a natural feeling to get us to try everything we can?!

Still waiting here.

Congratulations to happybump and chickbean - getting quite when I hear birth announcements now.

A friend is due her first around now (a week after my DD). I might actually cry if/when she gives birth before me. It's not like me to be jealous, but I'm really ready for this to be over now. I guess it's my own fault, I could have had the CS and been done with it.

sazlocks I know the "is that child still awake up there chattering away?" thing. Some days DD does sleep, but many others I have to retrieve her having not slept at all. I still enjoy the hour I get of listening to her sing tunelessly and get all the words wrong

somewhathorrified · 21/01/2010 17:04

Hi all, Sorry for being so absent on here recently, the days are just flying by. Doesn't help that DS was 12% below his birth weight at 5 days and we had to take him to SCBU who really pissed me off. So now have to feed every 3 hours BF first then FF to top up, wouldn't be so bad, but takes 2hrs to feed now, so only 1 hr at a time of not feeding! He has put on about 2% in just about 36hrs so at least there's rapid improvement, not that he was ill. I have no idea what made me agree to him being weighed in the first place and now know better!

Biccy hope your DH gets his priorities sorted some time soon. It is a pain when they are in bands, it confuses them into thinking the band is their family. I think it stems from being kids and being in gangs/clubs with a treehouse and secret handshake!

somewhathorrified - thats alot of time feeding! hopefully he will gain some weigt quickly and speed up so its does not feel so constant.

take care x

sazlocks · 21/01/2010 20:07

Evening all
big congrats to happybump and such a great name - I am biased a little because Samuel James is top of our list for a boy !

devotion don't blame you at all ! hope that things get going soon. I bet if our DPs and DHS had to carry babies they would be begging for it to be over by now !

Thanks for birthday wishes for DS ! he had a fab day and (welling up alert!) chose yesterday to say Mummy for the first time ! It was so lovely to hear after nigh on 12 months of being referred to as Daddy

Other than that all good - he has napped again the last couple of days so hopefully he non napping was a minor blip!.

Been to see the MW tonight for my last appt -there was a lot of tightening going on and she offered to do an internal. I hate them so declined her kind offer as it will come when its ready.
Have a lunch date with the girls tomorrow so hoping I can make that !
Birthing vibes to anyone that needs them

FifiForgot · 21/01/2010 20:11

Evening all

Congratulations to the new mummies - I am very envious!

devotion my DH had a similar reaction when I bought a pineapple! He told me I couldn't eat it because I'm having a section on Monday and he didn't want to have to rush me into hospital over the weekend! He was only teasing, but I don't think he has any real idea how uncomfortable I am. And to top it all off, I have started with a nasty cold (again) today. If I get to hospital on Monday morning and they say that they won't deliver this baby because of the cold, I may just have to kill someone!!

I had an antenatal appointment this morning, baby is not engaged and still swimming free, so if I wasn't going in on Monday, I think I would be in for a long wait!

somewhathorrified I hope DS continues to gain weight. You have my sympathies regarding the feeding routine. A friend of mine had to do something similar but it produced the right result.

Flippin 'eck Mama2b5 that was fast!! Massive congratulations.

Was thinking of posting in AIBU about getting a shirt with "Yes, I am still here, No, still no sign of the baby" on it.

It's all I seem to say. GAH!! 4 days overdue now.

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 22/01/2010 07:57

Congratulations mama2b well done.

Well no news from me, 40+6 and absolutely nothing doing, I am really peed off. I'm in such a grumpy mood, its my dads 65th birthday party tomorrow night and I wanted to go with a new baby, but as no baby turned up I am now refusing to go looking like a whale, v.childish I know but I am seriously fed up/depressed.

Good Luck to any one else whos baby is on its way,

The mw is coming to check me tomorrow and I have an appointment at hosp on tuesday, but I have no clue as to what their plan is/not been told.

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 22/01/2010 07:59

I'll have one of those shirts too sockmonkey lol

mama2moo · 22/01/2010 08:39

mama2b5 Wooo hoo!!! Congratulations I hope mine is that quick.

HDTCT Good luck, I saw your update on the childbirth thread. Im so glad its all getting going now

Im 39 weeks today and suddenly realised at 3am this morning that this time next week will be d day. Dd was 2 days early so I have never experienced that yet. I have a horrible feeling this one is going to want to stay put.

Off shopping with mum this morning so hopefully walking around might do something.

Dp told me last night that he is going to shave his head soon!!! I started crying He has lovely red hair and Im scared he will look like a baked bean. He is getting really paranoid about his hair line though and doesnt want to look like Alan Shearer! Is a grade 4 very very short??

Good luck to everyone in labour today

Biccy · 22/01/2010 08:56

Morning all! I have got up to a pile of DP's typing. Hurrah! Some bills going out.

Thanks for your support somewhat, his band was certainly a very dysfunctional family, which is probably why it was getting more attention than it deserved! I think he's starting to move on now...

sazlocks that was sooo sweet that DS said Mummy for the first time. Did you cry? I would have I'm sure.

devotion I wouldn't feel bad re the sweep. I think it's unusual for them to offer it before you're at least a lttle past 40 weeks, so she must have thought you were ready - as someone else said, it's okay for the men to say 'wait' when they just don't know how it feels to be so full of baby - just like DP wanted me to wait 2 weeks after my period was due to take a pregnancy test, while I was all 'let's crack open the first response'... hmm.

Huge congrats mama2b5 that is wonderful, and so fast! Amazing.

Good luck hurrydown, look forward to hearing your news!

Sock, I'm not even officially due yet, but I'll take one of your t-shirts too. I've started to tell people I think I'm going to go waaay overdue. Need to reset expections (mine included!).

Partyof6, that is very frustrating. I think you should go to the party, have a glass of wine, and then dramatically go into labour there and then! Sorry, that's not helpful. I keep thinking 'each day brings me a day closer to meeting my baby'. It's the only given any of us has got.

mama2moo, grade 4 is not really short and it will grow very quickly. DP has very very long hair, but it has receded dreadfully, and it really does need to go. He is too scared to go for it, but I think he'd look lovely with a gr 4; although, it'll be weird for me and for dd when he finally does take the plunge.

Okay, time to get stuck into the typing.

devotion · 22/01/2010 09:47

Mama2b5 - YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not in the least bit jealous your baby came first

I hope I have a great birth like you!

Love the name too.

Take it easy and enjoy! x x x x

Send some of those birthing vibes this way please !!!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 22/01/2010 09:52

Brief update! Been to hospital midwife did not appear to believe i was contracting as I was not making a big fuss!

Said I could not be examined due to waters having gone, anyway they called main hospital who said its OK to examine me and guess what.......... Im 4cm dilated!!

So have come home as im only 5 min drive from hospital and coping fine! Took some paracetamol turns out my forewaters have not yet gone so I can have a bath and relax!

Contractions are painful but will see how long I can go without anything other than paracetamol.

Hope your all OK sorry im slightly self absorbed right now breathing through contractions!! good luck everyone!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 22/01/2010 10:11

Mama2b5 - WOW Congratulations. I didn't get your text though!!?? How fast! You must be elated.

HDTC - WOW - again, good luck. Keep us posted!

Thoughts with everyone else still waiting. I remember it all too well !
