Getting us started with our new thread!

Will cut and paste the most up to date list so we know where we are.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fraochsmum · 16/01/2010 16:34

Absolutely fantastic ampster! Huge congratulations on your brilliant experience and the safe birth of your daughter.
Mama2b5 & flyingma - with any luck you both laboured overnight and now have your lovely wee ones in your arms!
Mama2moo - that is a shame to hear. I hope you are feeling a little less upset now xxx

Fraochsmum · 16/01/2010 16:38

Oh no whensmydayoff that sounds awful. I'm afraid I can only offer symathy for you and Olivia, but I'm sure there are many people on here who can help xxx

CantThinkofFunnyName · 16/01/2010 16:53

WMDO that is horrid, I'm so sorry for you and Olivia. No advice at all I'm afraid - but presumably GP or health visitor should be able to do something/prescribe something to help or even just offer some words of wisdom?

Some friends of ours suffered with this with their DC1. We went on holiday with them when their DC1 and our DC2 (both similar in age) were babies and we could see just howtraumatic it was for them. Their little boy, like your DS, just wouldn't eat anything. I don't think they got it sorted until he was much older, because like you, it went undiagnosed for a very long time.

Hoping you get something sorted soon. x

devotion · 16/01/2010 18:31

WMDO - I totally understand dd2 had it. Around 5/6 weeks old I brought her to cranial osteopath and she as great, each time I brought her (four times in total) she slept and fed really well the following 24 hours.

I was never sure what it was that eased it for her but below is what I done and it seemed to ease it. It finally went away totally when she was weaned at 19 weeks, (dd1 was 8mths). It definitley was on its away out at 4mths.

Anyway to help:

  1. Cranial osteopathy (try get a recommendtion
from someone who took their baby or you gp can suggest one)
  1. Giving a dummy, the suckly really helps as you know with wanting to constant feed, its more the pain relief of suckling they want than the milk sometimes. Plus it gave her tummy time between feeds for her milk to settle.
  1. Try keeping a gap of 2 hours at least between feeds although that would not count the first three weeks when feeding needs to be established.
  1. Making sure you have totally emptied one breast as too much foremilk creates wind and can hurt their tummy. I made this mistake as she came on and off so much that I would forget which boob or thought it was empty and would offer her the other one. NCT councellor made a good suggestion to me and said allocate each boob two hours. So during those two hours only offer feeds from that boob. That way you will get to the hind milk.
  1. MASSAGE, i really noticed how this helped especially with her constipation. She hardly pooed at the beginning. From 5 weeks I would give her warm bath at 6pm and then massge her with almond or olive oil fron head to toe. I learnt the techniques from a free baby massage taster session at my local antenatal clinic. See if your offers one. If not then have a look in your local health food shop because there should be an advert for a teacher and you could go on a course or just try one out. I found I learnt enough from one session. She loved it and enjoyed massage up to about 8/10mths.
  1. Keeping her upright after feeds for about 20/30mins - this is not possible during the night.
  1. Infacol, lots of people dont like it but I found it really helped but took quite a few days and you need to give it before the feed.
  1. I use to feed dd1 anywhere with any amountg of noise. But with dd2 I had to feed her in a quiet darker room for her to relax and for me to relax.

Take care x

Ps. You never know it may just be a blip and she her stomach maybe just adjusting and you might notice an improvment. The main thing is for you to relax and try the above out to see what works for you.

skidoodle · 16/01/2010 20:20

ampster - wow! that really sounds amazing, and you sound so euphoric about the whole thing - so pleased for you

wdmo no experience of reflux, but just wanted to offer support, it sounds horrible and very upsetting

no change here. gave the upstairs bathroom a really good clean today. maybe I'm nesting? never did anything like that before the birth last time.

have also been in a really good mood all day and finally feeling ready for this baby to come. never really felt that with DD - got two nasty colds back to back before she was born so just felt wretched all the time and exhausted.

hope all is well and more babies are being born

Mama2b5 · 16/01/2010 21:52

Hi all - well just had awful nite followed by awful day pain discomfort all day just stayed in bed DH looking after me and the kids looking after themselves!

Congrats -Ampster - not far off from your due date, good time, great baby weight and love the name - Edith! great positive vibes, did DH come in at all???

Mama2moo - sorry to hear about you and DH def think you need to talk and air issues- good luck xx

Fraochsmum- no such luck of my labour starting was reading baby diary from both my DD and i went to 39 weeks so a few days to go!GW!!!!!

WMDO- hope Olivia is just addapting, reflux is awful, DD had some of that but was quite good at settling no probs sleeping!

im off for a bath - not holding out for this baby to come, better get use to these feelings!

devotion · 16/01/2010 22:31

Mama2b5 - ahh sorry to hear that!

Why does a few weeks seem so hard to us after we have waited months and months?

Hope you had a nice bath and you get a good night sleep.

Take care x

Mama2moo - think i've missed your post, will go back over them now. Hope you are ok. x

devotion · 16/01/2010 22:36

Mama2moo - i am sorry i can see i sent a post straight after your post and must not have read it.

I am really sorry you are going through this, went back a few more but could not see any other messages. Is this just a recent thing, maybe a bad spot in your relationship, maybe you can sort this out?

If anything you need to talk, its does no good to just plod along. Can you arrange for someone to take dd out for a bit so you can sit down and discuss things?

I dont know the background to it but sending you big hugs.

x

sockmonkey · 17/01/2010 08:09

wmdo so sorry to hear about little Olivia. Devotion seems to have all the advice there.
I do remember seeing a programme with a baby with reflux and they recomended a wedge to go under baby's matress so they didn't have to lie completely flat which aggrivates the problem.

Hope all of you with aches, pains... pains of DH's are feeling better soon.

mistletoekisses · 17/01/2010 11:00

Morning all!!

The sun is shining here and all the snow has melted. So Nico and I finally got out for a walk and it felt great! Roll on Spring!

WMDO - Devotion has given you some superb advice. I have no first hand knowledge of reflux, but I know a friend who also took her bub to a cranial osteopath and it helped her LO.

Mama2moo - your post has come out of the blue. Are you sure that things are over?? Have you and your DH talked yet? to you.

Crumpette - how are you getting on??

Finally, huge congrats to all those bubs have arrived since I last posted - Bethoo, ampster and misschatterbox - hope you and your LO's are all doing great!!

Sorry if I have missed other posts, thread moving too fast to keep up.

OP posts:
CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/01/2010 11:18

MK - you beat me to it!! I haven't even been for a walk yet and Olivia is 3 weeks on Tuesday! The snow melted yesterday but I had visitors most of the day and now expecting more visitors today! Ho hum. Will have to wait for tomorrow I guess.

How are you settling with Nico? Everything sounds like its going swimmingly for you?

devotion · 17/01/2010 12:23

morning all, i must be experiencing weeks of pre-labour here. had a rubbish sleep last night with pressure again in groin, pain when turning and lots of lower back pain that went into my thighs - i really thought it was starting but alas my body is just teasing me

baby baby c'mon i have everything ready and mammy's groin really can not take much more of this...

i dream of running

can not wait to go for an early morning run... God knows when i'll get around to that again.

Hope everyone else has gorgeous sunshine like we have, the sun is pouring in the window and we have African Kora Instrumental music playing - beautiful!

x

Fraochsmum · 17/01/2010 13:07

Oh that sounds lovely devotion! Hope you manage to get out for a walk in it x
Ctofn - omg has the weather been that bad? I would be going mental if I couldn't get out of the house for 1 day! We have been very lucky with the weather and have managed to get out every day since getting home.
There is a tradition in our town (not sure if it happens elsewhere) whereby it is deemed unlucky to look at the baby without putting some 'silver' in the pram. Therefore Cara has amassed a small fortune (nearly £200!!) and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good bank account or trust fund? We are going to buy her a cask of whisky too - DH is in the industry and it will treble the cost in 10 years.

mama2moo · 17/01/2010 13:45

Hi all, I went out shopping yesterday afternoon (on my own!!) and it did me the world of good. Still not sure what to do about dp being there for the birth though.

I keep having pains like contractions but they are so on and off now I have given up even thinking about them! They do seem to worse at night though. Last night the baby was so low it was awful to walk.

devotion I think we are in a race to see who has their baby first! We seem to be having the same things. This isnt your first either is it?

Im not crying today so maybe I just had an off day yesterday. Dp is asleep at the mo and so is dd - Lovely!

We too have lovely weather today. Its a no coat day which we havent had for a long time! The windows have been open and the sun is shining - Long may it last

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/01/2010 13:50

Fraochsmum - yes, the weather has been that bad! Loads of snow, but more importantly lots of ice/slush on our roads and pavements. Had I not had a caesarean I really wouldn't be worried - but the "slip factor" has been pretty important in the recovery stage and my DH is being very protective!

Really can't wait to go out tomorrow and also to walk to the kids school to pick them up one day next week so I can show Olivia off !

sazlocks · 17/01/2010 13:58

Afternoon all

well done bethoo - beautiful name

huge congrats ampster - that is an amazing birth story and one I will try and keep in mind for inspiration

chickbean yes was a false alarm but was good as gave me a kick up the backside to get stuff done

WMDO also no experience of reflux here but sending positive vibes that things improve soon

look forward to flyingma news

sorry if I forgot to congratulate anyone else

Out with friends last night and not in bed til 1 which was great fun but feeling a bit wrecked today. DH, DS and I have been out this morning in celebration of the sun coming out and snow melting away. Its been nice to get some fresh air.
Other than that am 39 weeks today and feeling good.
hello to everyone else

flyingma · 17/01/2010 14:57

Congrats ampster - bloody hell I wish mine could have gone that smoothly.

Just a quick summary as am still zonked from the drugs and lack of sleep. So it turns out that the contractions were but they didn't become regular enough till around 3am Saturday morning so that's when we phoned the hospital to go in. Went in at around 4-5cm dialation but after another 5 hours of labouring in the water birth suite (not actually in the pool) I was still 5cm so gave in at that point for some gas & air followed by drugs. Coz they were so busy (more than 7 deliveries) that evening I could not get the anesthetist for some epidural.

So when the delivery part actually came, it was pretty much gas & air only. There was some horrendous tearing involving some stitches which I dare not read my notes about as am still in denial about it.

Baby Aidan arrived in our hand a bit shell shocked for words screaming at 5.51pm yesterday evening weighing a lovely 7lb 3.5oz. Photos and rest of the story to follow. Highly recommend the TENS machine to anyone still to pop.

Flyingma - huge congrats to you and welcome Aidan.I love that name, was on our shortlist! Hope you are not in too much pain!

CTFN - I am so glad to have gotten out. They are predicting more snow apparently, so plan to get out as much as i can this week. Thanks also for sending the email update out! Most appreciated.

Fraoch - our roads/ pavements have been pure ice, so I too was banned from going out. Impossible conditions to consider pushing pram or wear a sling. It was all gone yesterday, but was raining relentlessly.

mama2moo - glad you are having a better day.

More babies congratulations

Went out with Jacob yesterday but he screamed non stop in his pram so had to carry him x x

He's still not himself he's trying to cough up some green yuk which chokes him and makes him sick going to try and get him an appointment with docs in the morning.

First day of school run for me tomorrow hopefully I'll get them to school on time lol

Hope Olivia has had a better day and you get her sorted out x x

Biccy · 17/01/2010 17:42

Congrats Mrs Vik and Flyingma. That's lovely. They are starting to come thick and fast.

devotion and mama2moo I feel just the same; seem to be having days and days of 'is it, isn't it?', the odd moment when I have to stop in my tracks and breathe, then nothing that bad for a day; also worse at night, turning in sleep liable to have me out of bed and doubled up, loads of lower bump and lower back pain. But, nothing that I would think of in the way labour felt last time. It's quite unsettling... I'm getting a bit worried that when it does feel like labour, it's going to be full on, as I'm sure a lot of the hard work must be going on slowly in the most odd ad hoc fashion down there.

Saw a friend today whose second labour was just like this. She actually went to hospital because she was worried by the pain, which was quite intense, but not coming and going or increasing in intensity particularly, and on examining her they told her she was in labour. The proper pains kicked in just as they went to examine her, and three hours later the baby was born.

Maybe I'm deluding myself. It'll be another 10 days at least for me I'm sure (39 weeks today). Still, Royal Mail finally caught up with their deliveries today (been really backed up due to the snow here for some reason), so my replacement TENS is now here, as is the new crib mattress, so now I really am totally, totally ready. Bring it on!

sockmonkey · 17/01/2010 17:57

More congratulations to flyingma and mrsvik
on the arrivals of your little bundles. How exciting.

biccy a friend of mine has been telling me about 3rd babies, and them just wooshing out with very little warning. I need plenty warning... DH works about an hour away.

mama2moo · 17/01/2010 18:02

Congratulations flyinma and mrsvik

I have been extreme nesting today! Fingers crossed its a sign. I have been on my hands and knees scrubbing the walls (our house is very damp at the mo)

biccy Its awful isnt it. I am actually worried now that my labour will be so fast I will be on my own. I have visions of me waking up in labour and being ready to push.

2nd babies seem to really play tricks on you Once baby is here I know I will want her back in again so that my tummy is nice again

chickbean · 17/01/2010 18:33

Congratulations everyone!

mama2moo - I'm not scared about being on my own so much as being here with just a three year old and one year old! The three year old would be doing a running question and answer session and the one year old crawling all over me. I suppose it might take my mind off the contractions!
