Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Siochfradha · 15/01/2010 16:36

I've come across ppl in scotland pronouncing another spelling - Ciara - as Kee-yara. But its same as Kira! strange thing to do with a really pretty name

sockmonkey · 15/01/2010 18:56

Oooh Bethoo... congratulations. Yay for more babies.

I'm really hoping for baby to arrive this weekend. It would be the best timing for all concerned, even my Dad says to have bub now.

Not due till Monday though, and both boys were late so not holding out any hope. We are forcast for more snow on wednesday, just hope it's before then.

showmethemummy · 15/01/2010 19:00

hi all
just briefly on to say flyingma am having same symptoms but this happened last sunday too then just went. so now not sure at all...!

took two paracetamol about 1.5hrs ago made no difference. also bouncing on ball
[thanks all for advice]

blergh wanted to go out tonight, now just don't feel up to it and am really not convinced this is it!

showmethemummy · 15/01/2010 19:02

but flyingma just noticed your due date, so hope all goes really well!!

flyingma · 15/01/2010 19:18

Still here. They are getting more intense (between 4-7 min intervals) so hoping that this is the real thing coz if I have to go through this again I am going to be very pissed (poor DH).

Got sent by hospital midwife to pharmacy for what I thought was codine, turns out to be cocodemol (sp?) which I can't have anyway. Running the bath now so going to do that then onto the TENS.

Got some chores out of the way this afternoon. Surreal experience walking staggering round Sainsbury and getting contractions in the pasta aisle. We can actually move around and see the floor of the nursery now even if it does have a half-assembled sofa bed in there. So much for a nesting instinct here too

skidoodle · 15/01/2010 19:34

Fraochsmum - I was like that with DD. No nesting instinct before she was born but mad for the mopping once she had arrived.

The community midwife told me I should stop, since it was a very bad idea a week after having a section.

flyingma sounds exciting! Hope this is it for you.

showmethemummy not sure what to wish you, but whatever happens I hope it is a good evening

Siochfradha - Chiara (pronounced Kee-yara) is an Italian name. I wonder could that pronunciation have become popular for Ciara through the influence of Italian immigrants? Not sure. At least it's better than that American singer who pronounces it "Sierra".

bethoo many congratulations

Biccy · 15/01/2010 20:10

Ooh, flyingma hope this is it for you. sounds like you're staying really relaxed in yourself about it all, which I think is the best way to keep things going.

Snow has gone now, and of course as soon as I get my wings back I go and over do it. Had a very busy couple of days, and now feel absolutely shattered. Really want to get the thank you letters for christmas done so hope I can stay up long enough for that...

bethoo · 15/01/2010 21:20

flyingmama go by your gut if you think it is lsbour then it probably is. th emidwife only let me go in as i rang the hospital in the car on the way there i was that determined to get confirmation. rather get there have internal and be told to go home then waiting til virtually crowning to get there
as for show i only had a little when i wiped!
oh and how good was i? my waters broke when i went to the loo so less mess
i like to think that this time round i was in control if demanding drugs RIGHT NOW was assertive enough

I had a baby last night! Edith Priscilla Mae was born at 1.21am, 7lbs 3oz.

Waters broke 11pm - as soon as DS finally decided to go to sleep - contractions immediately coming once every 3 minutes. DP was in the pub and I was all alone so I called my hypnobirthing teacher Soshanna who was here within 10 minutes.

She set the pool up and looked after DS (who had swiftly awoken) while I laboured leaning over the sideboard, trying to do my hypnobirthing breathing while thinking "holy shit, I swear I want to push already!"

My parents came to collect DS, my sister taxied over from Walthamstow, DP got home about 12.45 at which point I got into the pool. Midwife arrived about 1.10am and wanted me to get out of the pool to examine me, but I really didn't want to.

She said she was in no rush to examine me and started walking away, so Soshanna said I should examine myself. I put my hand down and could feel the baby's head, said 'The baby's coming!'. Midwife came back to catch the baby: a couple more pushes and she was out!

Skin-to-skin in the pool, then out of the pool for the third stage. Placenta plopped intact into a bucket (to much delight as had retained it last time and had a PPH); no tears, just a slight graze which already feels fine. Entire labour was 2hrs 20 minutes from start to finish.

So hooray for hypnobirthing! Contractions did hurt - legs trembling and body so hot and sweaty, and my back hurt the whole way through - but it was always manageable, and so fast! I'm still on a high. I can't believe that yesterday I was taking DS to the play park and making muffins with my friend and her kids, and all day long my body must have been working away preparing for labour!

Good luck to anyone having their babies right now - are there going to be any more new moon babies, I wonder?

chickbean · 16/01/2010 10:47

Well done ampster - that is fantastic - I shall be hoping for something similar (perhaps not quite so fast - just so that DH can get home from work).

CantThinkofFunnyName · 16/01/2010 11:14

Ampster - OMG - that is totally amazing and surreal! Many many HUGE congratulations. What a lovely name too! Oooh - another list to update

chickbean · 16/01/2010 11:46

Oops Sazlocks - missed your post until now. Was it a false alarm?

mama2moo · 16/01/2010 12:41

Ampster that is amazing! I love that you let dp stay in the pub Congratulations

Congratulations to everyone else who has given birth this week.

I cant stop crying today. I think mainly because dp is home and I think we have split up although neither of us has actually said as much. Once the baby is here and settled I think he will be going.

Dd has been lovely this week and no where near as naughty as she has been - Thank god

Good luck to everyone in early labour.

devotion · 16/01/2010 12:52

Ampster - wow weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I love it! Well done you, sounds fantastic!

Please please God let me have a birth like ampster

Thats amzing about the crowning, you must have been making hardly any noise for the mw to start walking away.

You must be so chuffed, love her name too.

Congratulations!!!!!

Take care
x

Biccy · 16/01/2010 13:16

Well done ampster, that is amazing. Huge congratulations.

Mama2moo, I'm so sorry, that sounds like a very tricky place to be in at the moment, well, at any moment. Is it what you want? Are you sure that's what's going on? Can you talk to him even if it's just to get the elephant out of the room?

Oh where have i been?
Congratualtions bethoo misschatterbox and ampster. Dont know whats happening with somewhat either.

Im sooooo exhausted. Olivia has definitely got reflux .

DS had it too. It wasnt diagnosed until he was 5 months so 5 months of hell.

Part of me is glad I know but other part is just gutted. Anyone who has had a baby with reflux will know what its like.

They scream in so much pain, it is horrendous to watch and there's nothing you can do.

They dont like to lie flat and don't sleep long until pain wakes them.

They are light sleepers due to the stomach acid aggravating their oesophegus so the least noise and thats it. I remember bursting into tears if a car peeped there horn while I was out walking trying to get him to sleep. Once woken, screaming commenced. Im still in the habbit of pulling phone out wall and growling at people who knock on my door!

She has all the signs. I just didn't realise because she is piling the weight on and feeds CONSTANTLY. It turns out this is one of the signs. She is feeding so much because the milk eases the acid burn but of course the more milk that is going in, the more it is aggravating her problem. DS was the other, more obvious. Didn't feed and lost weight.
The absolute worst thing is feeding a reflux baby. Imagine breastfeeding and the baby is starving hungry and the pain of the stomach acid burning away while they are trying to feed. So they are on off all the time, screaming but desperate to latch on.
I started avoiding going out with DS as the feeding was so traumatic.

Oh sorry, I needed to get all of that off my chest. Anyone had this, any advice?
