Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MoggMum · 15/01/2010 20:51

Thanks schipo .. quite a similar situation as I've also been with my DH for 12 years so it came as a bit of a shock to everyone when we announced my pregnancy. Hopefully your DH's DD will come round once her little brother arrives as I'm hoping my DH's children will too. We both tend to keep things low key when they're around so as not to cause any jealousy.

Can't see why you shouldn't be considered as low risk if you're healthy. So far my age does not seem to concern my midwife and her notes have me as low risk. Birthing centre sounds ideal - I'm having something similar all being well (my DH is NOT keeen on the home birth idea either!).

LuckyMiller · 15/01/2010 21:21

Hi all

Feeling a bit rude as I've been lurking for a while but thought I'd take the plunge and join in.

23 weeks tomorrow with my first (due 15th May, looking forward to surprise of what we're having)

Bravely ventured into the world of pushchairs yesterday and have now made a rapid retreat following the offer of a family members hardly used one

Will now be turning my finely honed research skills to reuseable nappy options!

Nice to meet you all

MoggMum · 15/01/2010 21:41

Welcome LuckyMiller. It's good that you've bagged a pushchair as there's a world of choice out there and I'm completely confused already! Don't forget to add yourself to the list

LuckyMiller · 15/01/2010 21:50

Yorky · 15/01/2010 22:04

Welcome Luckymiller and MDM, good luck keeping up with the chat.
If you want any advice on washable nappies LuckyM I'd be glad to share my experience.

Heartburn is really getting to me tonight - can't seem to find any trigger foods as such. Appreciate its a very minor thing compared to diabetes, SPD and worries about babies' hearts - but its all I have to complain about, apart from kids not sleeping which I'm trying not to mention in case I scare 1st timers!

Angel, I think Willow is a really pretty name, DH likes it a lot (Buffy thing) but it was the name of my first cat so I won't let him consider it! Boy name might be sorted (and I might change my mind completely next week!) girl has a middle name so far
Good luck getting your home birth again. Did you use a pool?

ForcesSweetheart · 16/01/2010 00:04

Am about to post a pic of my humongous bump on my profile - hard to believe I'm only 24+3! Have a look if you're not easily shocked. I got DH to take one with the
dresslifted too to show my bump and apron in all their glory but they're a bit too scary to post!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 16/01/2010 10:47

Welcome Luckymiller and MDM. Hope you can keep up as this thread moves fast. Sweetkitty, do you still have your scan this morning?
Not been able to keep up much here as have been dealing with chicken pox since New Year. DS2 got it first, luckily very mildly, no more than 110 spots all over.
However DD2 (only 18m & not potty trained) has had a horrendous case. First spots arrived on her scalp and nappy area (front & back now, inside & out!) She's also got them in her mouth, throat, ears & on her eyelids.
Not a happy little bunny, but bless her, once dosed up (with antibiotics for infected spots, calpol & piriton) is still sleeping through the night for her tired mummy. My little angel!

peakyispreggers · 16/01/2010 11:01

hi luckymiller and mdm!
Sorry to hear your DD2 is so poorly with chicken pox five, hope she gets better soon.
Forces- checked out your beautiful bump!
On the subject of prams/buggies- does anyone have any advice? It is making me feel crazy, trying to work out what is best! I have no ideas really, other than Id like it to face me or away.
After a week or two of just thinking it was a fart, I am finally feeling/realising the baby is kicking! Weird. Cant really get my head around the idea.

AnAngelWithin · 16/01/2010 11:27

welcome luckymiller and mdm.

forces, thats a fair bump!!!

got on the scales this morning and i have actually put 2lb on!!! first time ive put any weight on.

SK good luck with your scan

five hope you are all on the mend soon. All 4 of mine had chicken pox in the space of 3 weeks!! nightmare!! I can sympathise. 110 spots is mildly????

Just debating ringing the hairdressers to get a restyle...or will i regret it hormonally????

OP posts:
LuckyMiller · 16/01/2010 12:00

AnAngelWithin - restyle sounds brave to me - I had a fringe trim last week and wasn't best pleased with it!

Although in the grand scheme of things I don't suppose anyone is noticing as they're much more interested in my growing bump. I've decided to actively invite 'bump-touchers', makes me feel a bit more in control. My sister was not keen at all and very reluctant when I asked if I could touch hers :-(

ForcesSweetheart · 16/01/2010 12:22

angel i think Willow is beautiful.

Welcome luckyM I researched reuseables for ages with DD, spent loads on a birth to potty hamper of the ones I decided on, and then didn't get on with them so sacked it and used disposeables. Thankfully was able to sell them on, on ebay, and actually made a profit! I think your best bet is to wait til LO is here and just buy one or two of any kind of nappy to decide if it's the one for you before committing to loads of them.

ml I remember it well. I was on hundreds of units a day by end of last pregnancy, had really hoped to avoid it this time.

five you have all my sympathy! Must be tough watching the wee one sufering so much.

Saw gp yesterday and he prescribed codeine phosphate for my spd and signed me off for another 6 weeks, so i've decided to make this my last sick cert and just take my a/l after then start mat leave at 33 wks - so i won't be returning to work at all now before birth - other than to clear my office out.

AnAngelWithin · 16/01/2010 13:08

lucky im not sure if i will regret it or not.....the style I have chosen is very different!!!! this one well my hair is lightbrown/blonde and pretty long now, i have to plait it at night!!! bit drastic.

I have just this week started experiencing 'bumptouchers' never had it before! But then I have never been this big haha. I thought I would hate it, the first time I did cringe a bit but it doesn't bother me now!

OP posts:
ForcesSweetheart · 16/01/2010 15:58

love that style angel

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 16/01/2010 16:11

Welcome LuckyMiller

Angel - Willow is a beautiful name. Love that hairstyle, you're very brave! My hair's very long and I can't bring myself to get it chopped.

ForcesSweetheart - very impressive bump Glad your GP has signed you off, is it weird to be leaving work already?

PeakyisPreggers - some of the ladies on the pram topic on Mumsnet really know their stuff so you could ask them? I have a Bugaboo Gecko and love it to bits (I've gone on about it before).

DD is much better now and even enjoys taking her antibiotics atm. I'm pretty ill with the same thing though and feel like my head is about to explode. Ho hum.

Den26 · 16/01/2010 16:43

Hi All, i'm back from my training week, glad to be home, been a hectic week. My granddad died while i was away , was kind of expected in a way but doesn't make it any easier. There have been some complications so funeral not until next thursday which is good in a way as i can make it. Gran has asked me to say something at the service big responsibility!

Welcome to those who have joined since i was last on

I have read through all the posts but now can't remember who said what - so sorry, brain in meltdown due to copious amounts of info over last week! Generally, glad to here most doing ok.

Re Bump, my workmates commented that my bump looked like it had grown just over the weeks training!!! Maybe something to do with breakfast + 2 cooked meals a day !

Re Mat leave, not sure when to start mine, getting a bit concerned how we are going to survive financially when amounts decrease over the months, trying to bury head in sand at the moment, not most effective solution.

Hope all of you having a nice weekend so far

MoggMum · 16/01/2010 16:57

Angel love the new hair style too - I'd say go for it! Have been tempted to have my long hair cut before the birth and may go for something similar. I'm rubbish at styling my hair though so need something that's easy to manage

Forces love the bump! Must be nice to know you have lots of time at home now before the birth.

Peaky Enjoy the kicks - it is weird but sooo special. Feel like I'm finally bonding with my bump now I can feel LO kicking me! I'm struggling with the choice of prams too but have narrowed it down to an all terrain 3-wheeler - just not sure which one! Thanks TCH will check out the pram topic now.

five good luck with the chickpox - your poor DD2

Finally feeling more excited than daunted at having my first LO - can't wait

MoggMum · 16/01/2010 17:03

Den sorry to hear about your Granddad - hope the service goes well. There seems to be so many of you who've lost grandparents over the last few weeks - very sad. Lost all mine a few years back inlcuding my Granddad who passed away on Xmas Day - remember breaking the news to my Dsis who was 8 months pregnant at the time

sweetkitty · 16/01/2010 19:21

hi ladies, well new first, had my scan this afternoon, everything looked fine and

IT'S A BOY

as soon as she looked between it's legs it was very obvious although DP must have asked her about 10 times if she was sure. I think we are both still shocked was so certain it was another girl, felt the exact same, carrying the same etc. I must admit I was sobbing I think from shock. DD1 wasn't happy at first but has come round to the idea, DD2 is delighted and has promised to share her toys with him

no more pink prams for me! We even had her names all picked out now it is back to the drawing board. A boy!!!!

Den - sorry to hear about your Grandad there's never a good time, I feel really sad as I only have one Granpa left now and he isn't really with it so to speak, I was very close to my Gran but she died just before I had DD1. Parents wise we only really have my Dad now and he's next to useless most of the time, not in a bad way he's just not very helpful and we live quite a way away.

Forces - your bump isn't that big, you look like a normal pregnant lady to me. I am asking the GP for codeine next week when I see him. I am also getting a TENS machine as on the SPD support thread a few women have said they really helped if you put it on your bum and back.

Angel - that hairstyle is lovely, I had mine long then had it bobbed after DD3 was born but am growing it again as it was too high maintenance bobbed, didn't have the time to do it in the morning whereas when it's long I can just run the GHDs through it in about 2 mins or tie it up. Willow is lovely btw

peaky - now prams is my speciality, I think a lot of it depends on your lifestyle for example so you go for a lot of walks offroad then a 3 wheeler is your best bet, or are you hopping on and off London buses then an umbrella stroller better, do you want a lie flat pram at first that converts into a stroller type? IMO there is no perfect pram they all have pros and cons, most people I know have 2, a big one and a stroller for the boot of the car.

Five - still shocked you were supposed to have the boy, me a girl, we have swapped about and gone against form

Right am off, still cannot believe I have to get rid of all the pink and buy blue now, alien to me.

AnAngelWithin · 16/01/2010 19:24

oh SK thats lovely!!! A little boy!!!! Aww...

OP posts:
booboomonster · 16/01/2010 19:34

hi all. Like some others - been lurking on and off but not had time to post. Been enjoying all posts tho!

Den really sorry to hear your sad news - thinking of you.

Re carpal tunnel - I got it bad last time. Got it again now but not so bad yet. Splints etc didn't really help me I'm afraid. I never tried tonic water tho so will give it a go! Only tips I have are that anything vibrating in my hand made it worse - eg cycling to work or using electric equipment. Dangling hands off edge of bed helped, but when I got what I used to call "the claw" (waking up only being able to move thumb and middle finger in pincer movement) I just had to wait for it to go. Anyway, was only extra symptom I got so can't complain!

Moggmum - not exactly like u and shipo, but my DD was first half sister to DSD who was 9 yrs at time. My DH and her mum split when she was 4 and 6 when dh and I met. DH was always dead keen to have more kids, but he also took time out to spend with DSD as it was a big change for her. She's been absolutely brilliant with DD who adores her. There are tricky moments, and I worry about the division of DH's time once this next babba comes along. But so far I've been lucky with how things have gone. I guess if everyone involved is aware that it might be tricky and is sensitive then that's a big plus. Hope that all makes sense.

Better go have had tantrumming 2 yr old next to me as I type. Take care all x

booboomonster · 16/01/2010 19:39

Sorry sw took me so long to post, didn't see yours first - congrats on boy. Cool! I can't wait to find out- am hoping to at next scan on thurs.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 16/01/2010 19:41

Den26 - so sorry to hear about your grandad, thinking of you. DH had to say something at his grandma's funeral and was very nervous but we googled some poems and found one that was perfect for him to read. Hope you're OK.

SK - posted on your other thread but congratulations! That must be a huge shock! As soon as I saw the thread title in active convos I knew it must be you

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/01/2010 19:53

Hi guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while, still nothing to report, baby's kicking more, I'm quite tired. Still haven't bought a single thing for her yet, mostly for (lack of!) money reasons.

How are you all? Is there any big news I've missed out on? I think there's been about 400 posts since the last time I wrote here

pigleychez · 16/01/2010 20:32

Forces- Love the bump.. It is quite big
Must seem strange not going back to work now till after baby.

Five- Hope the chickenpox is gone soon!

Angel- Did you feel brave enough in the end??

Heffa- Glad DD is better but you are ill now instead.

Den- Sorry to hear the sad news about your Grandad

SK- Wow! What a shock for you all! Has it sunk in yet??

Been having a few pretty shit days here. Having great trouble sleeping at the mo, seem to be waking up in the early hours for no reason and not being able to go back off easily. Plus DD has been abit unsettled and awake during the night.
Being so tired means im so grumpy during the day and poor DD gets a moody mummy making me feel really guilty!

Baby is a constant wriggler and im getting some painful kicks. Even DH is suprised at the force he can feel.

Bit nervous here tonight. Earlier tonight I noticed alittle light pink spotting when I wiped after the loo. Checked since and nothing now so hoping it was a one off, but cant help but worry abit. Never had anything like that with DD.

Sophie2008 · 16/01/2010 20:48

Hi,

Just a quick update. I had a private scan today and my two little monkeys are a boy and a girl! So excited as it was what i wanted. :D :D :D

Got some nice 4D pics of the boy but the little girl was shy, so got to go back in a couple of weeks to see if she will move for the scan. I tried everything, jumped round like an idiot, fizzy drinks, but she was determined not to let us see her face. Oh well, looking forward to seeing them again soon.

I hope everyone else is keeping well.
