MoggMum · 16/01/2010 20:57

Congrats sophie a boy and girl - how lovely!

Carikube · 16/01/2010 21:46

Congrats Sophie on one of each and to you SK on your boy (even if that is a bit of a shock!)

Den, sorry about your grandad and hope you find some inspiration for the words you are going to say at the funeral

LuckyM we use reusables on dd - I got carried away and bought loads of Bambino Mio nappies as that was they had in Babies R Us when I went shopping. I now realise that I should have done as someone else suggested and bought several different types (or better still, gone through the nappy network or something like that) to get a better idea as to what would work. I was very tempted to give up on them shortly after starting to use them but didn't want to waste the money invested (we started when dd was about 8 weeks old). Now we're well in the swing of it and I'm completely used to them but it took a while!

Had a bad day today, feeling rubbish and emotional and generally cross with DH. Ended up getting out doppler as I had convinced myself that there was something wrong with LO so was very relieved when we heard a very strong heartbeat. Funny how this type of day hits for no apparent reason....

Hollyoaks · 16/01/2010 22:28

Hi all

Not been on much as had quite a stressful and sad week apart from 20 week scan which went well .

SK - wow, congratulations on a boy , guess you can't use the name you had picked which is a shame as it was lovely but I guess he wouldn't thank you for it.

Sophie - congratulations on one of each.

Den - sorry to hear about your grandad, my bil lost his mum this week so its been quite stressful for him and his ds. It's an awful time, hope your looking after yourself.

Hope everyone else is well. Anyone got a really achey bump and back and feel about 35 weeks pregnant rather than 21-26?

sweetkitty · 16/01/2010 22:28

Sophie - congrats a girl and a boy how lovely

Reusables - I bought them when DD1 was a baby, she was a really heavy wetter though, I loved the Fuzzi Bunz pocket ones, they were gorgeous but kept leaking, the Tots Bots were lovely as well. I have to admit when DD2 came along and we didn't have a tumbl drier at the time I gave up and sold them. Agree the best thing to do is buy a few and see which ones you like best, you get so many now.

pigley - yes still in shock don't think it has sunk in yet, don't think it will until I see him. Might be something harmless like a wee bit of cervical erosion, I had a few wee episodes of pink stuff with a few pregnancies, I think this one and DD2's are the only two I haven't had bleeding in.

TomlinTowers · 16/01/2010 23:09

Sophie - congrats on one of each, that's lovely news!

SK at a bot when you were so convinced it was a girl. He will be adored by his three older sisters though, and will be spoilt rotten no doubt!

I have found myself going to look at the pink side of the children's departments now - it does take a bit of getting used to! I am so used to buying blue/khaki/brown that the bright colours are still a bit of a novelty!

Den - sorry to hear your news, I hope the funeral goes as well as these can be expected to go.

Whoever asked about prams - I have a M&P pram that converts into a pushchair and will be using it again for this one. It is brilliant because pram is a proper lie-flat one and I spent ages with DS1 walking him round and round to try and shift some of my baby weight! I could have him facing towards me, away from me, sat up slightly (the base of the pram wound up)...I could go on and on about it!

Reusable nappies - we used Little Lamb nappies for DS1 - started at 2 weeks until he started to pull himself up at 9 months. My only regret is that they were so bulky that DS1 looks really fat on all his photos, and always had to wear the next size up in trousers to fit over his nappies. I also think (although can't prove it) that it was the reason DS1 never rolled over on to his tummy - he looked like a beached whale on his back! Having said that, he did stand and walk early so maybe that was a good thing!

Forces -your bump is lovely

Hollyoaks - hope next week is better for you

Pigley - I'm sure everything is OK but if it happens again, give the MW a call or the hospital. Always best to be safe IMO.

Hi to all the newbies and hope everyone is still keeping well.

hormonalmum · 16/01/2010 23:50

Finally managed to catch up with everyones' news. Glad that everyone in the main is doing ok.

Den - sorry to hear your news, it must be difficult for you.

Sweetkitty - a boy after 3 girls. Wow, how exciting (not that another girl would not have been exciting but a change for you iykwim!)

Forces - lovely pic - am thinking of getting some professional ones done as I not got any of me when pregnant.

Sophie - lovely news.

Sorry if I have missed anyone

I am using terry nappies and have done since dd was about 6 weeks. They are not the most stylish by any means, but I have got some stylish wraps that make them a bit better than those plastic pants that my mum used on me!

Dh says I am not allowed another pram, so enjoy your new prams ladies

AnAngelWithin · 17/01/2010 11:53

sophie thats lovely.

hollyoaks hope you are ok

I am sending DH into the loft later as i am sure i have got some tots bots nappies up there still!!

Was woken with a start this morning at ds1 screaming there was something wrong with the dog....i shot out of ned and ran down stairs and the dog was collapsed rolling round biting her leg with the tumour on managed to calm her down and rubbed her leg. She seems a bit better now. Maybe it was cramp? I don't want it to be the end just yet

MoggMum · 17/01/2010 17:16

booboo glad to hear that your DSD adapted so well to your DD, hopefully things will work out fine once the new LO arrives. I think (& hope) that my DSD & DSS will adore their new half brother/sister too.

Pigley, Carikube & Hollyoaks hope you?re all ok today.

Angel about your dog ? must be very distressing for you.

Went for bike ride today in sunshine and really enjoyed it ? energy levels definitely higher at the mo. Starting to enjoy being pregnant too now the sickness has eased and looking forward to Spring, warmer weather and longer days

Not looking forward to another week of work tomorrow though. Meeting with boss in the morning to agree maternity leave and return to work hours etc. Fingers crossed!

memorylapse · 17/01/2010 17:51

Hi ladies

Congrats SK on your little boy..I told you, that you may be surprised!

Sophie..lovely news..one of each

Forces..love the bump pic

Angel..I would say..go for it re the hair do...a change is as good as a rest

Pigley..could be an erosion..think pink is less worrying than red..but I would phone your MW for advice
im not feeling too clever..been feeling dizzy on and off all week..yesterday feel quite poorly whilst cooking tea yesterday then fainted later on..my evening blood sugars have b een really high too..spent most of today asleep..but still dont feel quite right

ForcesSweetheart · 17/01/2010 18:04

heffa weird but blissful lol Am so glad to not have the stress, as my job was very stressful. Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about your grandad Den. Re coping financially. We're planning to pay off as many debts as possible (hopefully all if we can be strict enough) before my mat pay runs out. This should make life a bit easier when it drops to just stat mat pay after 6 months then nothing after that.

MoggMum It certainly does seem to be a bad time of year for it. I lost my grandad on New Years day many many years ago. He told us months before that he planned to see the bells in with a whisky then he'd be happy to go. We couldn't believe how accurate he had been!

Ooooh SK How exciting! Must admit I was convinced you were gonna have a girl. Re my bump, I feel like I'm huge for these dates. Had DDs 4th Birthday party at Pizza Hut this afternoon. One of my mates who had come down from Aldershot and hadn't seen me in 3 weeks said I was as big as she was at full-term! I took the codeine for the first time the other day and spent the next few hours clawing my skin, was SO itchy. So I don't think that's going to be an option. I've had that reaction before with Tramadol but always been fine with the codeine in co-codamol/solpadol etc.

pigley no plans to go back after the baby either. Adding a 2.5 year career break onto mat leave so that LO will be over 3 when I go back. By then DH will have retired from Army and we hope to be back in Glasgow near all the family for help with childcare. I know the pink spotting must be a worry for you but it sounds like such a small amount. Could be any number of explanations, particularly if you've had a bit of the other (altho I know that's the fursthest thing from my mind at the mo!).

Sophie Huge congrats on one of each!!

Sorry you're feeling crappy carikube. Good news about the strong heartbeat tho. I find having the doppler to hand so reassuring, as I frequently get those moments where I'm convinced something's wrong.

Hollyoaks totally with you on the feeling 35wks. I reckon this next few months is gonna drag!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/01/2010 18:30

Sophie2008 - congratulations on one of each

Pigley - sorry you're feeling tired I'm sure the spotting is nothing but it must be worrying.

Hollyoaks - sorry you've had a bad week, are you feeling better after the weekend? Glad your scan went well!

Hope your dog is OK for now Angel, it must be so upsetting

pigleychez · 17/01/2010 18:31

Sophie- Glad you got what you wanted
How exciting.

Carikube- Hope you had a better day today. Days like that are horrible arent they

Angel- Poor doggy.

Mogg- Dont you think just seeing the sunshine seems to lift your mood slightly. Glad you enjoyed your ride and enegry boost. Im still waiting for mine!

Well all seems well after last night, nothing more so hopefully it was just a small one off. Phew!

Been out looking at cars today. Think we decided on a C-max as our next one, Just searching for a good deal now.

Really starting to apprieciate the weekends when DH is home. Hes being so helpful as he knows it takes it out of me at the mo. He basically takes over at the weekends, occuping DD, making all the meals, giving me a lay in. Its fab Just wish he didnt have to work during the week!

Feeling better today as I went to bed really early and got a good nights sleep... first
in ages! Althoughs there seems to be crow that likes to crow very loudly in the early hours and wake me up

Hollyoaks · 17/01/2010 21:19

Hi all

Thanks for all the kind messages, its been a tough week and not gettin much better at the moment. The situation with my friends baby may drag on for a little while yet and its just so sad. Particularly when I'm pg and lost dn so recently.

On a more positive note lo is kicking loads, definately making their presence known to me and anyone who will sit long enough to watch my belly jump in all directions.

Hope everyone is well.

Carikube · 17/01/2010 21:20

Angel hope your dog is ok

Had another really bad start to the day (DH must be wondering where his easy-going wife has gone to!) but things are better now. Life would be better still if dd slept through tonight as then I might feel human! Counting down the days to Friday when I'll be 24 weeks as I'm sure I'll worry less then

Hollyoaks · 17/01/2010 21:23

Oh and dd had two wees on the potty today and no accidents. We weren't intending on potty training now as shes in childcare most of the week but I guess she thinks its time. She even pulled her nappy off when she wanted to go, very impressive as I thought she was nowhere near ready.

schipo · 17/01/2010 21:24

Great to hear about your twins sophie. I'm sure they'll be lovely.

SK, congrats on your boy - hope you're not too disappointed about not having full set of girls though.

Forces, definitely nice big bump you've got there I'm feeling like mine is getting bigger every day now and get a bit of a surprise every time I see it. Only 23 weeks today so feeling a bit alarmed at how big it could get in the next 17 weeks. Guess it's really odd for everyone first time though

Anyway, there really is too much to respond to here. Hope everyone has a good week though

kateyjane · 17/01/2010 22:08

Hello everyone - just trying to catch up with everyones's news.

Sophie - Congratulations!

SweetKitty - congratulations! Hope you are getting over the shock - you will love having a little boy!

Den - I'm so sorry. Thinking of you

Carikube, Hollyoaks, MemoryLapse - Hope you are all feeling a bit happier and that you have a better week this week.

Pigley - hope everything is ok, as everyone else has said, if things don't improve see the MW tomorrow, if only for your piece of mind. Take care of yourself.

Angel - I hope your dog is doing ok. It must be so upsetting for you.

I hope I haven't missed anyone and that everyone else is doing well.

I saw my lovely consultant on Friday. Had to have blood tests and was prescribed antihistmines for excessive itching. Don't think I've slept properly for the last 3 weeks - which may have accounted for my current emotional state! Although the tablets haven't stopped the itching they do at least knock me out

Have a lovely week everyone

AnAngelWithin · 18/01/2010 09:57

ML hope you are ok. Let me know how you got on at hospital.

Hope everyone is ok.

Sorry for the quick post, I am severely sleep deprived, didn't sleep a wink last night and I am totally exhausted

OP posts:
RacquelWelsh · 18/01/2010 11:54

Morning everyone, what a fast moving thread!

Hollyoaks sorry to hear about your friend, I can empathise, have sad thing going on with a friend of mine and am finding it really difficult to deal with. Hormones running wild doesn't help. Also, looking likely that I will have to go to another old friends funeral in the next couple of weeks and I honestly don't know if I can do it, I'll be a blubbering mess from start to finish.

I feel I should be wearing a sign that says "No bad news please, I'm likely to tell you to STOP TALKING, especially if it's about babies".

Den sorry to hear about your grandad

Carikube same here with DH wondering where his easy going wife has gone! Not all the time but feeling tested at the moment. Hope you're feeling happier.

I have another friend who's been trying to conceive for over 2 years (we were very close) and she's practically stopped speaking to me now. When I've bumped into her (clearly, I look pregnant) I've not mentioned the baby (she hasn't asked) and we just chit chat about the weather, it's hard to know what to do other than let her take the lead but it's like there's a big elephant in the room and just keep walking around it. Hmph. This wasn't meant to be a moan!!

Angel sorry to hear about your dog

Memorylapse hope things are alright with you...

Sophie that is great news! I'd be very pleased with that outcome. Brilliant!

ForcesSweetheart I know what you mean about being huge! (that's a lovely bump by the way!) This is my first but am surprised at how big I am already (although some people say "Are you sure you're 22 weeks, you're hardly showing?" and others "Blimey, you look ready to drop"! I understand now what everyone's talking about when they say pregnant women become public property!

peakyispreggers I laughed at your comment "after a week or two of thinking it was a fart..." we saw my stomach move last night, DH's eyes were like saucers!

Twentieth Hope you're feeling better.

kateyjane Hope you're feeling happier, having a sensitive sonographer makes all the difference. Mine was so lovely she almost made me cry but I've heard of some who just seem mean.

Sweetkitty Congrats on finding out you're having a boy! We're having our gender scan on the 1st Feb. I can't wait. We've been calling baby a her and my friends 3 year old tells me my baby's name is Emily May... not Matthew... ?????

Welcome to MarquiseDeMerteuil and LuckyMiller, hope you are both doing well.

Moggmum so nice to have someone else on this thread my age with number 1

pigleychez How are you? Hope you're alright.

I'm leaving work at the end of March, only 10 weeks to go. HOORAY! The snow has gone so can now drive into town (first time in 4 weeks) and get supplies.

Sorry to anyone I've missed, I love reading everyone's news and it's also great to see some of you on Facebook too!

brightredballoon · 18/01/2010 13:03

Hi everyone

SK omg congratulations!! I bet that was a huge shock!

Sorry for this not being a very long reply, got to grab lunch and get out for an appointment so haven't had chance to catch up with everyone's news.

Is anyone else eating far too much?! I don't have any self control at the moment and feel like it's Christmas every day! I should probably just stop buying it but recently we have been to lots of kiddy parties with all lovely nibbles and treats around. I need to keep it under control or else I will have so muh weight to lose after birth. I had 2 stone to lose after DS and found that was a challenge!

All things being well, it will be 14wks today for my elective section! Doesn't seem that far away but then when I look at the calendar it seems like a long time

Hope everyone is ok

AnAngelWithin · 18/01/2010 14:03

just had my consultant appointment through for 25th feb. will be 27+3 then. Fingers crossed they say yes to letting me have a homebirth.

Mummymunchkins · 18/01/2010 14:23

Hi all, just checking in, sorry haven't posted in ages been trying to sort out school application for DS1 who will start in reception in September this year....mind boggling deciding which schools to apply to!Anyone going through the same process?

Am still reading my way through pages of thread am so behind!

Hope all of you are well and hopefully will have something more constructive to say shortly.

ForcesSweetheart · 18/01/2010 15:35

hollyoaks congrats on your DDs potty progress!

katey have they done a liver function blood test with you itching so much? I got bad itching last pregnancy and it was cholestasis. They may not have if you've had your gall bladder out, as I don't think you get cholestasis if you don't have a gall bladder any more (at least the doc I saw today didn't seem to think the cholestasis could recurr this time coz I've since had the gall bladder out).

Saw ob/gyn team for first time today, and they have given me date of 22nd April for my c-section! That's 13 weeks on Thursday. waaaaahhhhh They also said I had blood, protein and sugar in my urine so they think I have a UTI and have put me on a week's anti-biotics. It's something new with my health every week!

ForcesSweetheart · 18/01/2010 15:55

Katey Scrap what I said about the gall bladder. Just been reading online that true obstetric cholestasis is a condition of the liver, and having the gall bladder removed wouldn't necessarily prevent it (this would apparently only be of use if the cholestasis was caused by gall stones causing bile to back up, not caused by the pregnancy itself- hence the distinction between that and true obstetric cholestasis). That being the case if you're getting a lot of bad itching I'd ask the midwife to run some liver function tests to check the levels of bile in your blood.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 18/01/2010 17:52

Gosh, I'm having trouble keeping up with all the news!

I hope everyone has had a good start to the week, and those of you who have had a tough few days are feeling a bit brighter. Fingers crossed for a better week for everyone.

I have no exciting news to add, it has been the usual day in the office for me, but I'm hoping to make what, for me, will be an earlyish exit at 6.30. Just enjoying a sneaky Kitkat, and telling myself it doesn't count as I see my personal trainer on Monday evenings!

RaquelWelsh - I know exactly what you mean about people feeling that they have a right to comment on your body just because you're pregnant. I'm 24 weeks now and, until last week, kept getting told I didn't look pregnant. Then this week it's suddenly, "ooh, you've got a little bump"!

How much planning or purchasing have all the first-timers done? My DH is laughing at all my carefully created spreadsheets setting out different pushchair and carseat options, pricing up various combinations of nursery furniture and comparing prices for basics in different shops. We're going pushchair shopping on Sunday, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I know what will happen... My painstaking research will be completely irrelevant, becase the one that has come out top in my table also happens to be the one that DH has, independently and with no research, decided that he favours, on the basis that 4 of our friends have recommended it (it does, admittedly tick all of our boxes).
