Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RnB · 19/01/2010 18:41

Gosh - so much to catch up on here, am a bit overwhelmed!

mampam you really have my sympathy SPD is bloody awful. I made the mistake of making some flatpacked furniture the other day - could hardly walk the next day.

Definitely get an emergency referal to a physio from your GP. In my experience unfortunately there is little they can do to help you, but you never know.

I've started having reflexology which is wonderfully relaxing, and I think is helping. Am also going to start having osteopathy. This is the one that really helps apparently but obviously costs. Will let you know how my first session goes.

Got my 21 week scan tomorrow Looking forward to seeing my baby again

LaTrucha · 19/01/2010 19:56

Hi guys - just popping in to say to Filly and Can't sleep - thanks very much for the advice. The new baby must be very talented because it has already bought DD a dolls house in the sale for its arival. I've cut and pasted the rest and will apply liberally when needed.

Exhausting day. Sorry for not stopping longer.

BTW - has anyone tried going to bed at 8.30pm? I've done it the last two nights and the first day I felt comparatively brilliant (still sick though). Last night I woke up for good at 4am, but may do it again tonight!

meggymegmegs · 19/01/2010 20:39

I'm in the North West playftseforme, please tell me you are too, maybe too much of a coincidence to hope for ?

Oh RnB my 21 week scan is tomorrow too. Good luck with yours

LaTrucha Yes yes yes on the early night front

chestnut100 · 19/01/2010 20:57

just a quick hello ladies. Excited to hear that the second round of scans are getting underway. Look forwards to a few updates tomorrow! Mine is next week, I can't wait. Will be nice to have the reassurance of seeing all is well, given I still haven't felt even a tiny movement!

A cup of hot milk and bed for me (how depressingly boring does that sound!?)

AlwaysHopefull · 19/01/2010 21:00

Oh, good luck with your scans, ladies! I had mine last week and it was amazing! Baby was wriggling all over the place and wouldn't keep still at all for the poor lady to so her measuring. Got the most amazing glimse of both feet and hands pushing on my tummy! I wish I could have caught it and kept it forever, it was just beautiful to see those little fingers and toes! Won't see them until the delivery room now, which is a bit scary!!

I'm also on maternity leave countdown - have a terrifying amount to sort out for everyone else to deal with while I'm away, but am finding it very funny to see the looks on all the bloke's faces when I say I'm off at the very end of April!

Have posted a thread on the potty training section, because am starting to get concerned about DD1. Any advice welcome from those of you with experience! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/potty_training/897477-Happy-to-sit-on-potty-or-toilet-but-will-only

D D1 was so excited to move into her big girl's bedroom a couple of weeks ago. I got misty eyed about her growing up, but she's loving it!

Nearly time for me to start getting baby things out of the loft and ship shape for new baby. Has anyone else got to that stage yet, or am I being a bit too keen? Thepregnancy is going sooooo quickly!!

greensnail · 19/01/2010 21:07

AlwaysHopefull I've been up into the loft to organise all the baby things, so I know exactly where they are to send someone up for them nearer the time (our loft access is far too precarious for me to go up again when I'm bigger!) I also feel like this pregnancy is going really can't believe I'm 20 weeks tomorrow!

Am off to bed now I think, before I scratch myself to pieces.

LittleRobbo · 19/01/2010 21:18

meggymegs & RnB good luck with your scans tomorrow

chestnut hot milk and bed sounds amazing,i'm off to do the same myself in a mo!

Alwayshopeful i nearly bought some newborn stuff from mothercare today, but decided to wait until after scan on Thursday, then its all systems go for me,i'll be sorting, washing, ironing, buying like theres no tomorrow!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/01/2010 21:26

Good luck for tomorrow's scans ladies! Mine's not til Feb 12th, which seems ages away yet! I'll get at least a couple of extra scans after that too though, because of the gestational diabetes .

MonkeyMargot · 19/01/2010 21:31

Ooh second scans - how exciting - good luck RnB and Meggymegs!! Greensnail - re. moving your DD to a big bed, do you have a moses basket to use for your DC2? If so, you needn't move DD to a big bed until eg.October, by which time your DD will be 22 months. It does seem a waste having to buy a second cot I agree. My DD1 is 2 months older than yours, but as we are having twins, we will buy one cot and they can share that until they are too big, and then move the twins into the 2 cots and DD1 into a bed.

mampam so sorry you are suffering so much with your SPD. I've heard osteopath's can be really helpful with this. I am seeing an osteopath on Thursday as I get bad backache, to be honest, looking forward to an hour of just lying there...

Had my 16 week appt.today, all fine. I had to ask MW to check the heartbeats - she found twin #1 immediately, then it took blinking ages to find twin#2. Was getting v.nervous. But all fine. 4 more weeks til my 20 week scan.

Very impressed by those who work with their DPs! My DH is self-employed and consequently is at home a lot. This can be good and bad, but mainly good.

To the firstimer asking about baby books, don't read too much if you can help it. It will all get very confusing. I read Gina Ford before I gave birth but decided it was too rigid, then when DD1 was around 7 weeks old did a Gina Ford "lite" version. The thing that worked most for us was getting her into a bedtime routine.
The "What to Expect" book I found good - really sensible and practical advice for all sorts of things.

MrsAlwaysRight · 19/01/2010 21:41

Hi Ladies.

Welcome to all our new members . Well had an embarrasing hormonal meltdown today, we are currently having an extension built so have had a lot of disruption for the last few months. At the weekend a leak started coming through the ceiling and the emergency plumber couldn't come until today then to top it off the hose on my washing machine split so water went all over my new floor. I think all the stress of the last few months got on top of me and I ended up bursting into tears crying onto my builders shoulder while he cuddled me and rubbed my back ! Not looking forward to seeing him tomorrow!!!

On a happy note we have our scan on Saturday to look forward to and DH is taking me out for lunch after to cheer me up

greensnail · 19/01/2010 21:50

monkeymargot yes, we will have a moses basket (assuming SIL's twins are no longer using it), but DD was out of the basket and into a cot by 8 weeks, so if this baby is the same it doesn't buy us a lot of time really.

oh no MrsAlwaysRight how embarassing! Sounds like the builder was lovely though (he probably has a hormonal wife at home, so is used to it!)

Right, i really am going to bed now. Night all

Woofie · 19/01/2010 22:38

Hi everyone, eek so many posts!

RnB and meggymeg - I have my scan tomorrow too Have been a bit excitable all week. Hope yours both go well - looking forward to reports tomorrow eve.

Madamefreckle and goodname - seems like we're reading from the same page for baby names Loving reading everyone's list. Haha barbeasty - you don't fancy following the Beckhams' lead then, and naming after the place of conception?! I used to live in Florence, but before I even met dh, so it has happy connotations for me too.

It was great reading about how you've dealt with helping dc1 adapt to a new sibling fillybuster and others. Really good tips. Ds is very excited about coming to see the baby at the hospital tomorrow, but the permanent reality of a baby might be a different story. He is nearly 4 now, so hopeful that he'll be able to deal with it fairly well (famous last words)

Sorry to everyone I've missed - no more brain space.

Night x

Woofie · 19/01/2010 22:41

Just reread message, and I realise it sounds like FLorence has happy connotations for me because I lived there before meeting dh HOpe he's not reading this! I just meant that it has happy memories without actually being the place where the baby was conceived... Definitely bedtime.

madamefreckle · 19/01/2010 22:59

Good luck everyone with scans tomorrow!
[fingers crossed emoticon]

Everyone with SPD - sounds flipping awful. Does it improve quickly after the birth?

I'm just such an evening procrastinator - the thought of going to bed at 8.30 is a bit daunting really - how would i fit in all that internet surfing lesson planning? No, honestly, I do plan! OOh, I've got 2 minutes to get into bed by my 11pm deadline! Go go go.

OP posts:
Barbeasty · 20/01/2010 06:28

Woofie I know what you meant! DH goes pale when anybody suggests it as a name, and we were only there for a few days- the rest of the holiday was in Germany nad France, and the place names there don't have the same ring! Although, when his aunt (who lives in Germany and we sayed with for a week too) wrote to congratulate us and suggested Florence, DH did start ranting that you may as well call it "on the pavement outside flat...." He then spent the next few minutes explaining to his VERY shocked mother that it wasn't a serious suggestion and wasn't even possible

To all those thinking of early nights, yes I went to bed at 8.30 last night, but I do have to get up at 5.30 every morning for work! I am on-call this week, and had a horrible Monday night so I just couldn't keep my eyes open by 8.30.

And to cap it all off, it's snowing- hard! Currently debating with myself whether I'll be going into work. I think I'll have to, and just hope I get home again tonight

GinaFB · 20/01/2010 08:59

Good luck everyone with scans today! I have 2 weeks to go for mine and really looking forward to it!

Bedtime at 8.30 would be great but struggling with sleep at the moment, taking me until 12-1 to get to sleep then dreaming very vivid and odd dreams..... last night I was expecting a delivery of a bed and Esther Rantzen came to deliver and put it up at my parents house....

minimoonumbertwo · 20/01/2010 10:56

Oh good luck with scans today!! Updates please... Is anyone else going to St Thomas'??

mrsalwaysright i am still laughing at your post - we are about to embark on an extension too and i wouldn't mind a hug from our builder! Best if i stay away i think!

gina - hilarious - Esther Rantzen?? Random!

mampam · 20/01/2010 11:04

Good luck to everyone having their scans today .

My friend is lending me her moses basket. I'm not buying one as I'm probably being optimistic that the baby will fit in it anyway. When DS was a newborn, being a near on 11 pounder he virtually filled up his moses basket and looked totally ridiculous in it!! I just put him straight into his cot where he looked like a normal sized baby in such a huge cot!!

Been to see GP this morn, had to see a locum as my GP is booked up until next Wednesday!! She was ok but when I said I had SPD she asked me what that was???
I had to fill in a form about the pain and where it is and all the things that it stops me from doing. I didn't do this with the midwife. Fingers crossed I get somewhere this time.

Still can't think of any boys names, a friend of mine says she's struggling with boys names too.

playftseforme · 20/01/2010 12:32

Cadmum, thinking of you

Kind of puts any other pregnancy shitty experiences well into perspective.

GibberingGinger · 20/01/2010 12:46

Oh, cadman, I'm so sorry. I don't really know what to say, but I hope you get a lot of support from your family and friends over the next few traumatic days -and in the long term.

Haven't been on here for a while (but have been reading it) as I feel in a kind of limbo. Am trying not to think about names/buggies/anything really until after 20 week scan (in a fortnight)

NizzyNoodles · 20/01/2010 12:47

so sorry cadmum
