How annoying Scarlotti but at least you know things are underway. Make sure you can rest up if it's going to be stop start. easier said than done, I know!

Koumak happy EDD but don't worry, today is not an especially brilliant celebrity birthday day if that's any consolation. Yesterday was pretty good if you like self destructive poets- Sylvia Plath and Dylan Thomas were both born on the 27th. I am checking the Times register every day and thinking 'nah ..... not today'! when I see the celebrity birthdays.

No chance of me jumping the queue though- no signs, no BH, and I think to be honest I am still too ill for it to be a good thing to go into labour- cough has gone right down onto my chest and breathing is not great. This virus has been really yuck- it's been a week and ds is back at nursery this afternoon but not 100%, I think I'll go and get him early.

So Koumak and Ursigurke I am expecting your stories before I have mine to tell! Hobnob I am with Ursi, I may go for the bath and booze, possibly some pineapple.. but I am done with cleaning and I am right off sperm

Comma , and Tamlin it's so hard when you don't get the birth you wanted but the more births I hear about the more I think only a minority of people ever do- it's one of those things there is no control over.

With ds, I don't think it is too far fetched to say that had I had him somewhere else, or in a different time, one or both of us would not have made it through the birth, so if I ever feel sad about my labour with him that is what I remind myself of.

FairyBex · 28/10/2009 14:50

Hi all, just checking in. Had a growth scan today and the baby is healthy if a little small, but the rate of growth since my last scan (2 wks ago) is good.

But... my blood pressure has got even higher so I've got a prescription for some medication to control it and another consultant appointment on Monday.

It also looks like the chances of a c-section are getting higher each day for me so I'm going to share the lovely things you've been saying to comma if that's OK. It really isn't what I'd hoped for but it seems my body is just being crap

The consultant even joked about not making it to the next scan in 3 weeks time as I'll be 38 weeks and they may have to have delivered the baby by then! He is a lovely man and I was fine at the time but I hadn't realised how much I hadn't wanted a section.

I also realise that this may make me a candidate for queue jumping, but I'll try my hardest to wait my turn - honest

Hope everyone with twinges, bh and other interesting symptoms - tingly tongues - get some results or relief soon.

Comma2 · 28/10/2009 15:04

Hugs to you fairy ! Hope you bp will turn out well!

It does make you wonder if we'd just die horribly in the forest if there weren't any doctors, doesn't it? High Bp is such a common problem, and transverse breech is 1 in 200...that's a lot of women right there...
Plus, I just heard a thing on BBC on fistulas in african women--I think that if it were left to us (women) alone, it really wouldn't go so well. So I am with wook on the entire glad-we-survive-thing....

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 28/10/2009 15:12

Scarlotti in the next 24 hours YEY! But that its not quicker for you, hope when it gets established properly it will be quick and as pain free as possible. Thinking of you, looking forward to some happy news x

If FP goes into labour too, we could have 2 more babies before the weekend! Good luck fruitpastels hope things are moving for you too x

koumack sorry you are being kept waiting...must be a girl right? getting herself ready I hope you don't have to wait too long.

tigger good luck for your SD, hope it goes ok for him. My next door neighbour had a triple heart bypass earlier this year, and although he needed a lot of TLC afterwards he has made a full recovery.

Carpets are being fitted as we speak. Did not realise it takes all day to fit not sure why as there is a lot of stairs and a lot of carpet . It means DDs room is nowhere near ready, but also means I have not been able to do much, which is good as I am wiped out after yesterday! So, I met a friend and went to a nearly new NCT sale, spent £6.50 on lots of great clothes for new baby, including a Gymboree outfit brand new with tags, and a puzzle for DD, had a coffee, then cleaned the bathroom, went to Dunelm Mill and bought two lovely mats, one for the bottom of the stairs for people to wipe their feet on, and one for between the kitchen and the hallway. Call me paranoid now but there will not no dirt on these new carpets thank you very much! Then I had a lovely hot soak in the bath, and although I am not meant to use Lush products, felt so scanky after the last couple of days I used some - then showered to get the most of it off.

And as soon as the carpet guy has finished, we are off to friend's to have roast dinner and collect DD. We will have to do her room tomorrow, but not a bad thing, means she can help 'move' up and chose a sign for her door! The pink is a surprise still, and I might put her train tracks up there before she gets home at least .

Anyway, best shoot off, DH had got the whip out, got to sort out the clothing from the airing cupboard, as its all on DDs bed at the moment! He needs my help...no rest for the pregnant!

scarlotti · 28/10/2009 15:40

Thanks for all the messages ladies. Nothing seems to be happening here so am doubting the midwife's prediction. Let's just hope that baby is just waiting for the calm of evening to come

Think it might be curry for dinner, have been up and about cleaning stuff to stay active. DH keeps offering his services but like whoever said before, think I'm off sperm for a while

It's just so confusing, and now that my Mum is on her way I'm really worried I'll have dragged them across country for nothing.

For those with DC's already - how much reliance would you put on the midwife's assumption that we're only talking a day or so? She had examined my cervix by then - soft but still long.

Why can't we just have an egg timer in our bum or something that shows how it's all going?!!

Koumak · 28/10/2009 15:57

Scarlotti I hope it gets going really soon and doesn?t stop this time! Egg timer or crystal ball is what I would love too!

Hobnob hot bath and alcoholic drink hey? Sounds like perfect evening to me! If I could get rid of ds and dh for a night too so I can actually enjoy some peace and quiet that would be nice.
And I think I have eaten a half pineapple a day so def reached the 8 mark

Fruitpastels · 28/10/2009 16:00

Scarlotti It's such a confusing time. I went into labour with DS without all these false alarms, aches and pains, so wasn't examined until I was in the delivery room and told I had a couple of hours to go! Your body is working itself up to the big day and I find the night time is when things start to kick off with me. No idea how reliable the MW's perdiction is, but I imagine you're not far off now. I've asked MIL to stay with us as of tonight, it will make me less anxious and hoping having her here will allow me to relax and help labour get a move on. I'm sure your Mum would rather be there than worry about you being so far away from her. Enjoy the rest it will give you. I am sending you 'strong labour vibes'

skorpion · 28/10/2009 16:31

ninja, ninja, for goodness sake - BREATHE!!! Hope you're not passed out somewhere.

scarlotti, fruitpastels I hope things progress well and quickly for both of you.

erika the tingling in your hands might be carpal tunnel syndrome - it's very popular in pg apparently. I don't know much about it though, my hands go numb in the morning but my gp said as long as it goes away quickly - which it does - and it doesn't hurt much - which it doesn't - it's not much to worry about. Hmm, my gp is a very relaxed kind of guy...

pavlov how come even your day off sounds very busy???

tigger good luck to your DSD.

sleeplessinthecity · 28/10/2009 16:32

off sperm! classic line. Am all for some wine though

pavlov your energy astounds me...are you on something?

skorpion · 28/10/2009 16:36

Well, that's it for me then. I've just completed my handover at work and am properly on maternity now. Still have my book-keeping business to get on with at home, but at least don't have to travel to Oxford every day.

I'm just reading the latest Jack Reacher story, love the guy.

koumak are you still at work? Will they keep you until you pop or are you planning to finish any time soon?

PreggoK8 · 28/10/2009 16:51

Hi all. Just adding myself to the list. You've all kept me very entertained today as I've been reading through trying to see what everyone else at the same stage is going through.
Hope things come on soon for everyone with promising signs, and I hope everyone with traumas are ok. x

Scarlotti - was told by midwives with DD (went in early for check as I had really swollen ankles) that I was having contractions picked up by monitor, they said it could be it but there was no way of predicting, I actually wentinto labour about 5 days after. They didn't do an internal or anything though so not if you can predict that way? Good luck x

Hobnob - I like the bath & alcohol idea, may put that one into practice, but not for another week or so yet!

Just got back from MW, am taking DCs up to parents tomorrow for a week, so she's visitng me day I get back to complete a homebirth form and brng round the kit - not planning on a homebirth, but pas 2 have been really quick & they're concerned we may not make the hospital so want it there just in case - DH really not keen on the idea!!

Trikken · 28/10/2009 17:32

hi, just wanted to let you know we updated on mon, in case you are wondering why us due on the same day as you are three days behind! lol

katster37 · 28/10/2009 18:26

Scarlotti Grrrr for you, although still sounds potentially promising? How are you feeling now?

Had manic day with FIVE HOUR breastfeeding workshop, then pregnancy yoga and then got abused by a horrid man in the street on the way home - he started swearing at me saying we didn't need any more children in the world and didn't I effing understand - was really horrid, I thought he was going to follow me home. Think I will stay indoors for a bit!

Reallllllllly want to meet my baby now... Am so impatient!!

Trikken · 28/10/2009 18:31

wow, thats long. silly man. sounds like a loony. dont take it to heart, and dont answer the door!

ursigurke · 28/10/2009 18:35

katster, what a silly man! I can't understand those people. Why should he have the right to be here but not your child? Just try to forget about it. I'd suggest a hot bath with a glass of wine

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/10/2009 18:48

Katster that is horrible. He's just a miserable git. We don't want any more babies in the world ... that GROW UP TO BE LIKE HIM!

I bought a pumpkin today: my belly was bigger than the pumpkin.

I think we will have some more babies in the next 24 hours!!!! Exciting!!!!

OP posts:
Comma2 · 28/10/2009 19:24

Baby flipped! Question is, into what sort of position. God, can't take that sort of emotional rollercoaster. But whatever it is, I don't want to have to make a decision but just be told by qualified doctor what to do on Friday, as do not feel qualified.

Kastster loony bin. Don't open the door and if he's around next time you go out, call the police. None of that. [stern look]

scarlotti dh has asked MIL to come from Japan to watch dd after Csection. If i don't have one, I'll feel like a fraud for sure...

Tehe becky on the pumpkin.

browntrout · 28/10/2009 19:47

ok thanks. Have MW appointment tomorrow morn and really hoping that head engaged. she was a few weeks ago but was free again last time. Having bh contractions and fingers crossed she'll come on time.

BeckyBendyLegs · 28/10/2009 20:01

Comma that's a long way. Why is your MIL in Japan? I'm just being nosey because I lived there for two years

I have 38-week midwife tomorrow. My belly is so huge I feel like painting a pumpkin on it!

OP posts:
Trikken · 28/10/2009 20:02

that'd be good for halloween BBL!

ErikaMaye · 28/10/2009 20:06

Fruitpastles will be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hobnob thank you for the list of tips, I think I may well print that off for my daily routine, with the exception of the semen Especially looking forward to the hot bath with booze option!!!

Scarlotti at least they think it will be soon

Fairy glad baby is looking well, but sorry to hear about the possible section. Again, just stay focused on the fact that if its best for you both that?s the thing you need to do. Big hugs. And hey, that means you get to queue jump, and how often would you get away with that in the UK?!?

Pavlov is that HONESTLY your description of not doing much?! Wow? Could you come and not do much here, please?!

Skorpion thanks, I?ll mention it tomorrow

Katster what a total arse Wish I?d been there with you, could have done with an argument!!! Hope you?re okay.

Tell me please that I'm not being unreasonable think that its not fair for my mother to say this to me -

"Well its your fault he (younger brother) is playing up at the moment, you kept the baby. And stop complaining about the pain, its your own fault you're still pregnant, you had the choice not to be."

I'm furious. Still. She said it this mornning, but am still so angry and upset about it. Not to mention shocked. UGH.

Got Bryn his christmas stocking today

Comma2 · 28/10/2009 20:12

Becky , ha, Trikken is very right. THAT would scare the little buggers
MIL is in Japan because my FIL has too much money so they are traveling insanely through the world. I think the day after she leaves here she'll go to Aruba. She has an incredible mansion in CA, but never sees it. Not that I am very sorry for her.
What did you do in J?

beepbeep dare say DH isn't keen on it. My dh can't see blood, so I'd have had to make dog or toddler help or something....good luck!
