BABY ANNOUNCEMENT*

Hello Everyone

we are delighted to announce the arrival of our new baby daughter.

Monae Emerald
7lb 10zo
born on the 16th July
5:50pm

She was exactly 2 weeks early, an induced labour because of high blood pressure.

The Details: I was addmited to hospital on the 15th, and started induction at 6pm with prostogin gel, started to have some sharpish contractions and thought maybe baby would come that night, so called dh back in, given second gel at 11pm, more contractions, but then dr, told me to sleep, gave me a sleeping tablet and when I lay down contractions stopped. Given third lot in morning, walked around hospital to get labour going, but it didn't establish till 1pm. I was in major pain then, and told them all to either run over me with a truck or give me an epidural. Got edipural at around 1:40pm one word heaven started to really feel baby coming at 5pm and told them to get dr. back, they didn't believe me but dr. arrived and 3 pushes she was out, managed to push even though i couldn't feel a thing dr. wasn't even ready, and we were all laughing and smiling about it.
Little Monae opened her eyes as i held her, amazing.
dh went home to kids, as we were worried about leaving them, with Oma and Opa for so long. I got up to have a shower but had massive haemorrage, all went a bit scary then, I won't gore you all out, but we are all recovering well now.

Hope everyone is well, sorry for going early but they are worth the wait look forward to catching up and more baby news in just time.

One other weird thing, everyone thinks i bribed the dr. to have her on the 16th, as dh, ds2,my best friend and myself and now Monae are all born on the 16th of different months, ds1 was born on the 14th (so close)

HeinzSight · 19/07/2009 13:29

Congratulations Uki!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HellHathNoFury · 19/07/2009 13:40

COngratulations Uki

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2009 14:10

Many congratulations, uki. Well done you. Monae sounds amazing with her eyes opening! And only 3 pushes- excellent.

Sorry to be a complete ignoramus but I've never heard that name before. It looks v pretty written down. Is it pronounced Mo NYE or Mo NAY? And is it Mo or Moe for the beginning syllable? Or another way entirely?

The haemorrage sounds really scary- poor you. Did you need a blood transfusion? I really recommend Floradix if you need to get your iron levels back up. Also watercress soup! My father-in-law made me some amazing watercress soup after my boys were born.

So, so far we have 2 boys (Nathan and Oliver) and 1 girl (Monae), right? Ace!

Hi snala. Bedside cot sounds v good.

Sorry to hear about spd woes, hell. Does it ever get any better towards the end?

mamamila · 19/07/2009 14:39

well done uki!! and welcome to the world Monae xx

ladies do you all have names ready??
i have a seriously blank mind on the whole subject...have done from day 1 and nothing's popping out at me

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2009 14:55

I have none either, mamamila! I'm hoping I will look at him/her and be miracuously inspired...

mamamila · 19/07/2009 14:58

oh gawd but what if nothing does? or worse still in my sleep addled delirium some awful name appeals to me?

VJaybigpants · 19/07/2009 14:59

Wow uki congratulations.

It's all starting now isn't it

ScummyMummy · 19/07/2009 15:02

Won't your partner/mum/best friend gently veto anything awful though?

mamamila · 19/07/2009 15:05

dh has 1 favourite which i don't like at all and now refuses to participate in name discussions! i keep looking through hundreds of names but nothing appeals to me

VJaybigpants · 19/07/2009 16:38

mamamila I'm in a similar boat, dh and ds love a name which is ok but not the name I want. I told my sis about it and she likes their name too!

duchesse · 19/07/2009 17:03

Uki- Congratulations!

Mamamila- ours is going to be "Baby" or "Arf" (bump name) for probably the full 6 weeks at this rate...

nellyup · 19/07/2009 17:33

Congratulations uki! Glad you're recovering OK.

Our names are sorted - but we told the older two (7 and 5) that they could pick a middle name. Current favourite is Percy which makes me giggle - not sure if its after the Thomas character or Ron Weasley's brother!

Longtalljosie · 19/07/2009 18:22

Congratulations Uki and welcome baby Monae! Gosh, it's really all happening now! I wonder who will be next...

HellHathNoFury · 19/07/2009 19:27

me! me! me!

We have a name chosen. I feel positive everyone will hate it but I couldn't give a toss

craftynclothy · 19/07/2009 20:17

Congratulations Uki. Lovely name . Hope you're recovering well.

On advice of mw we're having a test run of the birth pool tonight...though at present I'm feeling tempted to dunk dd in it . The last 40 mins have been a repeat of "Stop climbing on the pool. Don't throw the duck (thermometer) in it. Don't touch the hose. No you can't shut the door cos the hose is there. Leave it alone." At least there's no leaks though and we've figured out the hose doesn't attach to our kitchen taps so has to be attached to the bathroom sink taps.

BabyBump2B · 19/07/2009 21:56

Congratulations UKI!!! How exciting and welcome to little baby Monae!

We had a name and then I went off it and I love another name but DH hates it but I keep calling her the name we originally chose and now I've confused myself completely. I'm hoping when I see her I'll feel better but about 6 weeks ago I become utterly overwhelmed by a feeling of how enormous a task it feels like to give someone a name they will probably be know as forever and I'm terrified I'm going to give her the wrong one! [overly hormonal emoticon]

OonaghBhuna · 19/07/2009 22:08

Uki CONGRATULATIONS!!! I hope you are recovering well and getting lots of support.Monae is a lovely name.

Sorry I havent been on but it has been CRAZY since getting home.

I cant believe that Ollie isnt even a week old yet, last Tuesday seems like a lifetime away. Anyway to start from the beginning....Arrived in hosp at 7.15am was shown to my bed etc, did a little unpacking of essential items. Then by 8.45am was walking down to theatre totally petrified.Section went really well, all staff were great supportive reasssuring.Ollie was pulled out by his legs and feet (according to DH) and it took ages to get the head out because it was stuck. So he was born at 9.33am! Had skin to skin which was lovely he was so beautiful. Then wheeled into recovery and was able to BF and he was a hungry little thing he latched on for an hour!!!He basically ate and slept for the next two days in hosp which was great because I was able to get some rest before coming home.It was lovely to spend time with my little boy on his own. I just couldnt stop cuddling him..

Since being home it has been hard work, bleeding nipples and pain with every feed.My DDs have both been really sick and have had them at the docs.Their behaviour on Friday was so awful that I spent the night in tears, although it was baby blues day. The midwife came out on Friday and said that Ollie had lost 10% of his birth weight and was in the risk zone.....my milk had only just started coming in on Friday. But things are improving! Midwife was better today she showed me how to latch him on properly to avoid the pain. You would think I would know having BF both Dds.So the lansinoh has been essential, I have been using loads on nipples and on breast pads to keep them moist.
Recovery from the c section has gone really well, I have been able to do more and more each day. Its weird that despite bing my 3rd section this is probably the best recovery, well so far......

trixymalixy · 19/07/2009 22:10

Congrats Uki!!!!

crafty we did a trial run of my birth pool on Wed, was very odd bathing in it while watching telly!!

I was at the midwife on Friday and the baby's head is well engaged and as it is my 2nd Dc she reckons I'll go early!!! I can't as we are having a new en-suite put in next week!!!!

We had curry for dinner on Fri night which I was enjoying until Dh pointe dout it was a well know remedy for bringing on labour. I didn't enjoy it so much after that as I wouldn't have been able to have a home birth i I went into labour before 38 weeks. Have made it though as I'm 38 weeks today!

Is everybody else shi**ing themselves about swine flu now?
I wasn't until I read the BBC news website this morning, but I am now.

trixymalixy · 19/07/2009 22:18

Ooh and were any of you quoted on the Guardian website?

kitkatqueen · 19/07/2009 23:06

Congrats uki!!!!! gorgeous name!!! Well Done!!

Snala, my youngest is 18mnths now and i'm due on the 18th aug so very similar gap - theres 20mnths between no 1 and no 2 and 26 mnths between no 2 and no 3. there should be about 20 mnths between 3 and 4. Don't worry it'll be fine - just be prepared to be potty training one whilst simultaneously feeding the babe

We apparantly have 50 sleeps here before the kids go back to school which equates to 7weeks. 7 weeks will take me to 2 weeks overdue so i'm really hoping to go a little early rather than max overdue this time!

Have to admit that swine flu is worrying me a bit as more people round here seem to be getting it, have planned to do very little during the holidays tho, so i'm hoping to avoid anyone who may have it.

Going to spend lots of time in the very nearby park so that the dd's can practise their bike riding skills and hopefully start biking to school in september.

I now have 2 weeks of getting the kids to early morning swimming lessons and then the babe can turn up whenever he likes We still haven't found a name we can agree on - and im really hoping that I go into labour when dp is at home to save the stress of him having to drive 50miles to get to me. Think I may have to try a bit of self induction in a few more weeks

Amazingly dps hand is looking loads better (was a bit worried it might have dropped off by now but he's trotting off to work tommorrow as usual )

Btw! saw a woman wearing a tshirt the other day that said "yoni dutch" on it - does that mean she has 2????

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend...

craftynclothy · 19/07/2009 23:34

Trixy - it was a bit wierd having the tv on. Dd got in too and seemed rather excited by it all .

Starting to worry a bit about swine flu here. The daughter of one of dh's workmates has it. Said workmate is going to work from home on Monday but I don't know about after that. I just don't really understand it all tbh and I think I worry most that the new baby or dd might get it.

BabyBump2B · 20/07/2009 01:27

So... It seems I've lost part of my mucus plug and I'm having period like pains. Checked with the midwife and she said it doesn't necessarily mean anything A friend said on average women go into labour 10 days after losing their plug - anyone have any experience?

duchesse · 20/07/2009 05:11

Ooh, Bump, exciting! Can't help with mucus plug info as all my labours so far have kicked off with waters breaking and I never lost any of the plug till labour, so have never actually seen a mucus plug... I believe it can be a fair while between losing it and actually having the baby (up to three weeks??).

Uki · 20/07/2009 07:33

THANKS EVERYONE for all the congrat's, looking forward to giving them back.

Yes Monae, is probably a bit unusual, pronounced Monet as in the painter, I am an artist myself, and a big fan him,so it has alot of meaning to me. We went off this name for a while, as we were worried it was too... well wanky IYKWIM, and she was going to be Evangeline, but we came full circle back to this name.

Oonagh Congratulations to you, Welcome to Oliver cute name for a cute boy i bet. I was wondering how it all went. Were our babies born on the same day? I can relate to the sore breasts and i am amazed it hurts too third time around. good job for recovering from c/s so well.

bump2be- lets hope your not waiting too long, it is frustrating not knowing when, isn't it.
