Congratulations Uki - and agree it's a lovely name!

We've picked a name, but can't decide which way round first and middle names will go! We were going with Michael... but feel there might be a few around just at the moment .

Bump - I've been losing blobs of jelly on and off for WEEKS! However, I'm now getting some every time I wipe, and got about half a teaspoon the other night. I also seem to be having constant griping pains. I'm telling myself it's a long latent phase and active labour is going to be quick and easy. Part of me knows this is rubbish and I'm probably just in for five weeks of torture!!!!

OonaghBhuna · 20/07/2009 10:26

Uki- I had my section on the 14th.Still not even a week away, cant believe it!I have been putting breast pads covered in lansinoh in my bra, it helps with the pain.

I hope we have more movements this week

Any suggestions for a post natal thread? I am useless with coming up with ideas.

readyfornumber2and3 · 20/07/2009 10:36

Hi all x

Congratulations Uki hope you are enjoying your lo

Well I am 34+4 today and lost a small amount of my plug this morning which is encouraging but I know it could still be a long way off as I lost it at least a week befoore with DS.
I have been having quite strong and constant period pains all morning too but not reading anything into it as been having alot of niggly pains for weeks now

I wish there was an obvious sign that labour was going to start, like your ears turning blue it would be so much easier than trying to read between the lines of all these niggles!!

Haribosmummy · 20/07/2009 10:55

OMG!! Haven't been here for ages... Congratulations to everyone who already has a little one!!

I have just over a week left - unless anything happens early!!

Hope everyone is feeling well! (and no swine flu!!)

We still haven't agreed on a name, despite me thinking about it for weeks and weeks!!!

Hi everyone. 38 weeks today and it's my last day at work. Got a few funny looks on the train this morning - obviously people surprised that a pregnant woman was daring to go out in public heedless of swine flu.

Am so looking forward to having the rest of the week to myself although I've got lots of chores I want to finish off. No show, no BH here so I really don't know whether this baby is imminent but I hope I don't go as far over as last time (was induced at 42 weeks).

Many congrats to Uki!

Whoops

Haribosmummy · 20/07/2009 12:06

A pregnant woman daring to go out in public

maybe Hawkmoth is right... this is the year of the skinnies and us PG fatties have to stay in doors!!!

YanknCock · 20/07/2009 15:16

Congrats to Uki on the little girl!

This is going to sound really stupid, but with all the pressure/pain down below and my hips feeling like they're falling off, it has only JUST sinking in that the baby has to come out of THERE. I mean, I knew this before, in my head, but it was all theoretical until now. Am starting to be scared. Watching for mucous plugs and stuff and thinking the bag should really be packed by now!

Scummy, I'm soooo hoping that it isn't true about first time caucasian women going two weeks over....

As for names, the one at the top of our list got vetoed by DH's mum (and he was in big trouble for telling). We're not really set on anything, just have a few that we sort of like and plan on seeing what he looks like before deciding. In the interim, he will probably be known as 'Stinkbutt the Second' ('Stinkbutt the First' being our dwarf hamster George).

readyfornumber2and3 · 20/07/2009 16:13

YANK - lol I know what you mean about suddenly realising, I remember feeling that about a week before my due date with DS Unfortunately SCUMMY is probably right about going overdue! I was 8 days over with DS. Fingers crossed you can buck the trend

RACHEL1963- They were probably concerned they might have to give up a seat for you lol, enjoy your mat leave but hopefully you wont have too long before you have you hands full

HARIBOSMUMMY- Only a week to go I forget that people are upto 5 weeks infront of me yet due the same month lol.

We havent got a clue about names yet and we need to choose 2
DS was 3 days old before he got named, we had a short list and his actually name was never even a consideration! Hopefully that will happen with the twins too

nandos · 20/07/2009 16:25

Congrats on your baby girl, UKI
you must be over the moon

haribosmummy and readyfor2n3 me n dh also havent got together with a suitable name for our baby! im getting slightly worried now..what if baby arrives early and ppl starts asking his name

I cant believe time is flying past..am 39 weeks this thursday but baby is still comfortably curled up in my tummy with no signs of him wanting to come out anytime soon dh will be coming back from his overseas work tmr..yayy after 2 long mths..will be buying a cot for baby when dh reaches home.
mom thinks we dont need a cot cos' baby can sleep on the bed with us but i am worried that i might accidentally roll over him at night am a rough sleeper who keeps turning and rolling at night and taking loads of space

hope everyone is doing well and is anxious like me waiting for the arrival of our babies

quixotic · 20/07/2009 17:56

Congratulations Uki - great name!

snala · 20/07/2009 21:20

What a great name Uki

Thanks for the reassurance with the age gap everyone.
3 weeks to go! Still not ready! I was ready at 30 weeks with ds1.

MrsThePoint · 20/07/2009 22:52

Congratulations Uki.

Went away with DS to parents this weekend for DH to spring clean and he did a surprise bedroom makeover and decorated. It was lovely. He chose good colours too!

Am 37 weeks tomorrow and IM happy for homebirth from 37 weeks, so all set now for avoiding hospital! Yeah!

No real signs for me yet, but as I was induced last time I have no idea what my spontaneous labour will be like. I have nothing for comparison. Consultant at hospital has booked me in at 41 weeks to discuss ?options? so would like baby to come before then because will be facing the ?when to cut? question, to which the answer will be ?only in the direst emergency? much to their obvious disapproval their over lack of control! Hey-ho. So sending out and hoping to receive ?birth baby? vibes to all of you wanting them!

becksydee · 21/07/2009 09:26

congratulations uki

well, yesterday was eventful. went to my 34 wk appointment at UCH, had managed to wind myself up about the whole birthing centre thing to the extent that i burst into tears about 30 seconds after sitting down. diabetes midwife came in to chat to me and managed to completely scare the shit out of me whilst at the same time seeming friendly and eminently reasonable (how?? how did she do that??!) UCH birthing centre is completely out of the question, & as it happens my blood sugar is completely all over the place & looks like i might be on insulin by the end of the week anyway have to start testing 5 times a day.

it all got very interesting when the midwife dipped my urine and found ketones, so then i had to go off to the day assessment unit for a blood test (inept & rude SHO attempted to take arterial blood but had to give up, turned out venous blood would have been fine anyway ) a scan and to go on the CTG machine for a bit. so, blood gases were ok so no ketoacidosis, scan was fine - baby isn't huge and well within the normal range for dates despite midwife's pronouncement of doom that i looked 'really big for 34 weeks' (fluid levels are fine too, so obviously she just needs an eye test), CTG was fine once baby deigned to wake up and move around a bit. my appointment was at 2, eventually got let home at about 6:30. bit of a draining day all round.

seeing diabetes nurse on friday and consultant on monday. thinking of taking a few days off work this week cos i don't feel like i'm coping all that well, but for now i need to get my arse into gear because i've got a meeting to sort out handing over all my work today & at this rate i'm going to be very late!

hope everyone has a nice drama-free day

Becksy - so sorry you're having such a difficult time with it all. Sounds like a terrible day yesterday.

MrsThe Point - any chance I could borrow your dh???? . Could do with a whole house makeover here though!

38 weeks today here. Nesting seems to be kicking in. This morning I've tidied and cleaned the kitchen, while dd painted. Doesn't sound much but when dh had left half yesterday's washing up, had stuff all over the place and I've got spd it seemed like a big job! I've also got dd's lunch ready in the fridge and tea in the slow cooker. MW coming at 1pm. Could do with hoovering the living room while it's still reasonably tidy but not sure it's a good idea with my hips and also dd is terrified of it .

quixotic · 21/07/2009 15:25

mrsthepoint - lucky you on the room makeover - I would love some makeover fairies (and some cleaning fairies ) to come to my house

becksy - sorry that sounds like a totally cr*ppy day - sending you positive vibes and hope that blood pressure goes down

Well done on the nesting crafty - would like that to kick in for me too.

Last day of work today, not done much work to be honest. Back killing so ready to go home but people have been lovely - a bit to leave.

craftynclothy · 21/07/2009 15:56

MW been - baby is now fully engaged (am pretty sure dd wasn't fully engaged at this stage) and LOA (so perfect for labour! - had previously been ROA). Everything else fine and the midwife even took some pics of dd listening to baby .

ScummyMummy · 21/07/2009 16:01

Awww, becksy. So sorry about your day from hell. Hey, fwiw, I was chatting to my wee sister who did some of her midwifery training at UCH and she says the unit and the labour ward proper are practically exactically the same facility wise, pretty much. She also said that a quite a high proportion of women end up getting transferred from the unit to the labour ward when possible minor complications arise (these risk averse midwives- tsk tsk) in labour and feel all disrupted. She thought they might as well merge the two for all the difference it makes to good experience and outcome. Anyway... I think a few days off work sounds like a great idea. Hope the blood sugar settles down soon. It's fab that the baby is obviously doing great.

Thanks, uki- I like that pronunciation a lot.

I wish my partner would start nesting. Then I could have a clean house without doing any work.

ScummyMummy · 21/07/2009 16:02

x-post, crafty. That's great re full engagement and good position, isn't it?

fruitymum · 21/07/2009 17:18

UKi - congratulations on the safe arrival of Monae - lovely name.
Beckysy - sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it - if you do need insulin try not to worry the injections are painless - honestly pricking your finger for the blood sugar test is more uncomfortable. Most ladies stop insulin as soon as the baby is born - so it will only be for a few weeks.
No bags packed here yet - so will need to get a move on but DD was a week late - wonder what the chances are of the same this time?
Has anyone got any experience of using buggy boards?

monkeyfeathers · 21/07/2009 19:04

Congratulations Uki. It's so nice that babies are arriving.

I went to see the consultant today (but got the registrar instead - not that it matters) and it seems that the baby has turned. I was pretty certain that it did at the weekend (after a horrible night's non-sleep with the baby wriggling around very painfully). Hopefully he'll stay that way.

It was actually quite a weird, and not very positive experience though. No one at the hospital antenatal clinic seemed to care at all - they were all really off-hand. I am now so glad that I get community midwife care. The whole appointment thing is far nicer when the midwife chats away and seems to care about how I'm doing. I'm really glad that I don't have to go back to the hospital now other than to give birth. I'd be really depressed now if they'd said I needed a caesarian etc, as there wasn't exactly an atmosphere I'd call 'encouraging'. That said, I'm not looking forward to giving birth in that hospital either (for the same reasons). Urgh.

Even so, I'm completely fed up with being pregnant now and I'd like the baby to come asap! I've been all nesty (and having to fight the urge to start painting the bathroom etc) for about a week now. I'm only 37 weeks though, so it could be ages yet (DS was born at 40+2, and the midwife said to expect something similar). I did lose my mucus plug last week, but nothing seems to have come of it

cairns · 21/07/2009 19:34

Uki - huge congrats, hop all is going well
Yank, crafty - fab re engagement. At last appt I was 3/5 but was engaged for ages with DS so not expecting much yet
mokeyfeathers - fab news about baby turning. I too have the same feelings about hospitals v own midwife, but thankfully am not in hospital for long

Another crazy nester here, just seemed to kick off yesterday. Emptied all the kitchen cupboards, cleaned, put all out of date stuff in bin and sorted them all back again tidy. Touched up painted hallways today, put all paints and brushes away, cleaned out utility area and made way for changing mat etc, hoovered and have just finished mopping... and now about to start on making a bday cake for DS mmmm will have to have words with anyone who challenges that women don't nest

No news from me on anything else tho, no plug loss or anything, slightly stronger braxtons, v v v uncomfortable sleeping at night but other than that no change. Got midwife appt tmrw so we'll see

OH also will be another nameless baby here... not got a clue in the slightest, although today I found a piece of paper that DH had been writing names on (ahhhh!) I was really touched as throughout this pregnancy he seems to have been not really involved with it as he was with DS

quite excited now.... wonder who will be next

MakkaPakkasWilly · 21/07/2009 19:38

Well it won't be me.

I was about 21 days over last time.
I expect I'll still be pregnant at Christmas.

it's HellHathNoFury btw, thought it was time for a namechange.

Hawkmoth · 21/07/2009 20:09

Tee hee... Willy!

Is there a stupidity prize for the week? I sat on a chair in the garden yesterday... two legs were in the flower bed... so I ended up in a large Rhododendron.

I had to go up to the hospital for monitoring ("Aha!" thought baby, "Time to torture mother with leg extensions") and ANOTHER Anti-D shot. I swear they use a five inch needle.

Everything fine, and I took the opportunity to grill friendly MW about my BHs. They mean nothing... not even the one that got up to 35% on the monitor. It could still be weeks... I bet it will still be weeks.
