Hi Everyone!

Just a quick note to say that our daughter Maesailí Jane Avalon arrived at 5:43am on August 15th, weighing 8lbs, 11oz and 21.5 inches long.

Haven't slept in over 40 hours so need to head to bed but will update & catch up later!

CoonRapids · 16/08/2009 14:44

Hello, just quick announcement - we had our baby boy born at 6.30pm on the 15th at 40+9! Alistair and he was 7lb 12.5 oz. Labour was pretty quick once he'd turned into the correct position! I was wondering why the early stages were taking so long!

Good luck all - congrats Babybump2b

Congratulations BabyBump and Coon!

fairylights · 16/08/2009 15:29

i haven't been on this thread very much but thought i would just say too that our beautiul baby Annie arrived 12th August at 5.26pm after a really wonderful home waterbirth. 10 days late but worth the wait..
We are all doing great, although i feel slightly in shock that "normal" life has carried on so quickly with a second baby - none of the sitting around baby-gazing that we did with ds! But all wonderful anyway...
all the best to the rest of you who are still waiting

mamamila · 16/08/2009 19:55

hey i have an announcement too!!

Miss Eda Nancy arrived 12th August, 7.1 lb. She's a dainty little doll, so far mostly sleeps all day and saves her energy for the night..

Section went brilliantly, I cannot believe I have no pain at all! I've not needed anything stronger than paracetamol since day 2. Horribly engorged boobs at the moment making feeding a bit difficult but I'm persevering. Although had a revelation on 2nd night after feeding for 4 1/2 hrs 11pm -3.30am constantly and Eda obviously ravenous I asked for a bottle and she guzzled 80mls in seconds and slept 4 hrs and I repeated again after the next bf. I never dared offer a bottle to ds or dd1 for fear of jeaopardising bf but I can see it did no harm and was such a relief to see her satisfied and I got some sleep.

Congrats to all and see you in postnatal thread..
good luck everyone still waiting, it's so wonderful to not be pregnant anymore!!! and the baby's a good prize too!

fruitymum · 16/08/2009 21:32

hi all,
congrats to all the new mummies.
Scott arrived on 11/08/09 , 2days early, at 11.18pm weighing in at 8lb 10oz. we are delighted with him and his big sister is in love with him - can't stop kissing him!
Good luck to all those who have to delivery. Have to say its great not having a huge tum anymore - just a saggy one!

Rachel1963 · 17/08/2009 10:25

Hi everyone, just to report that I had a baby boy at 4.46pm on 14 August.

Got out of bed in the morning and felt a little trickle of something so phoned the hospital who told me to go in to the assessment unit but they didn't sound too interested so I was pretty sure I'd be home by lunchtime. But by the time we got to the hospital, I was having what I was pretty sure where (little) contractions and when I was seen, I was 3.5cm dilated with a v soft cervix and I had a contraction while the midwife was doing an internal. So she did a sweep (as I was due to have one that afternoon anyway) and told us to go for a walk, have something to eat and come back in an hour. Went back 40 mins later with what were definitely contractions, presumably brought on by the sweep, and was whipped over to the labour ward.

Everything happened pretty quickly then but it was almost exactly the birth I'd hoped for after being induced and going for hours with DS1. Last time I was surrounded by medics intervining like crazy, this time it was me, DH and one midwife. Managed with G&A and pushed him out myself - HUGE sense of achievement .

So: sweep at 12.30, into labour ward at 2.10, baby here at 4.46. And it all feels so much easier than last time, he's feeding brilliantly and seems very calm. We just need to find a name for him. And I could really do with my stiches healing....

Rachel1963 · 17/08/2009 11:42

Ooh, forgot to say. Born at 41 + 4 and weighed 9lb 7oz...

duchesse · 17/08/2009 11:47

Ooh very many congratulations Rachel!

Confuzzeled · 17/08/2009 15:31

Congrats to all the new babies am super jealous.

Who else is left? And are you climbing the walls? I feel like clawing this baby out of me NOW.

duchesse · 17/08/2009 15:39

Confuzzeled- oh no, you are not alone. I am entreating this baby to come out NOW on an hourly basis. Am so over being pregnant now...

Longtalljosie · 17/08/2009 15:39

Yes, am totally climbing the walls. Am having a couple of pains a day which could be false labour / contractions but can't find any info on whether that means the big event is any closer...

Confuzzeled · 17/08/2009 15:45

Phew, thought everyone had popped, glad I'm not alone but hope you all pop soon.

For the last couple of days I've been getting the strongest ever BH, then it gets sore, I get excited then I usually go to the toilet and it goes away. Nobody in my family has ever gone before their due date (I'm due Friday) but nobody has had as big a bump as me. My mw has been saying she thought something would have happened by now either from the hospital or naturally but I'm still growing measuring 47 weeks pregnant

BabyBump2B · 17/08/2009 16:25

Hang in there ladies! The waiting seriously sucks!

Huge congrats to the other mummies who all popped around the time I did:

Coonrapids, fruitymum, fairylights, Quixotic, mellin, mamamila, Rachel - hope you're all enjoying your little one as much as we are.

YanknCock · 17/08/2009 17:08

I'm still here. ARrrrgghhhhh.

Projectile vomiting this morning after BP monitoring appt at the hospital, so am feeling very sorry for myself and very grouchy! Have taken to my bed with a stack of library books.

Huge congratulations and to everyone who's delivered recently!

Longtalljosie · 17/08/2009 17:37

Oh, poor you Yank...

becksydee · 17/08/2009 17:43

tsk, i never learn do i? so long since i've posted on this thread & so many people have had their babies already that i've completely lost track!!! big congratulations to you all, hope you're enjoying your new babies & not being pregnant anymore you lucky cows

well, my news is that everything seems to be going rather well GD is totally under control with diet now, saw the endocrinologist this morning who gave me a gold star also saw the obstetrician who gave me a sweep, which was kind of ouchy but will hopefully get things moving. i'm booked in to be induced next wednesday (my EDD) but we'll see. have got an appointment with the consultant midwife at the birthing centre this wednesday morning, so i might even still get my water birth after all (if i go into labour spontaneously anyway) . baby is 3/5 engaged, cervix is 2cm dilated & thinning out nicely, so maybe the evening primrose oil capsules i've been putting up there each night have been having some effect! have been having a bit of cramping since the sweep so off for a bath in a minute with some clary sage oil, and then i think some bouncing on the gym ball might be called for.

had a session with an acupuncturist last wednesday which was fab (v relaxing and it sorted out my constipation too - amazing!), unfortunately she's away this week and can't give me another appointment until next tuesday so currently trying to find someone else who can see me this week & doesn't cost a fortune (stupid london prices). desperately trying to prioritise my very long to do list as it's becoming apparent that, one way or another, it's fairly unlikely that i'm going to go much past my EDD if at all. SPD is really sore now but am trying to console myself with the thought that it'll be gone soon!

sending out lots of cervix-dilating, baby-engaging, uterus-contracting thoughts out to everyone else still waiting

Hi Ladies

Another one just popping in, sorry I have not read down the thread so congrats to all the new babies and wishing all those not yet 'popped' good luck and hang in there, I ended up being 12 days over (same as with DS1) so kind of know what you are feeling.

Well Baby Boy (still working on the name) was born Sunday 16th at 4.23am weighing... now warning I did mention I thought the baby was big .. this one sucessfully made it just off our hospital charts at 4.97kg, which I think is 10lbs15ozs .

We went in for an induction on Friday pm. had a prostin, didn;t work. Hospital got really busy in the Labour Ward on the Sat, so they were told to 'hold' the induction, so we had to wait it out on the antenatal ward all day. Eventually given another Prostin Sat pm, which started to work. Active 1st stage labour from 12am, waters broke at 3am and then pushed him out in 5 mins using just G&A. Ended up with smallish 2nd degree tear, (same as with DS1) I actually had a good induction experience, as I was worried about it.

Hospital brilliant, lovely midwifes and Drs in antenatal ward kept us informed throughout. Was given lovely midwife on huge clean delivery suite (same midwife as DS1) and then had own room (and ensuite), much better hospital experience than DS1. DS2 has lots of fans already as all the Drs and midwives who saw us wanted a cuddle with the 'big baby'.
Had to stay in for 24hrs for blood sugar monitoring, as baby was big, but all OK , I just grow them that way..... mmmm and here's me now contemplating a DC3.

Confuzzeled · 17/08/2009 18:10

LongTall, I hope the pains are early labour and you start soon.

Yank - Thats awful, hope you can get some rest. I remember getting really sick in the last 2 days before my dd arrived.

Becks - At least you have a date that you can look forward to, I know it may seem ages away but at least you know. I hope you go naturally though. With GD did you have extra fluid? I apparently have over 1.5 liters of fluid around my baby so when I blast it's meant to be like something out of a movie.

Cairns, Congratulations on your toddler baby boy. I can't believe your contemplating DC3, wow.

becksydee · 18/08/2009 07:06

congrats cairns! & 10lb15oz with just G&A - wow!!!

confuzzeled - my fluid levels are completely normal, in fact apart from a period of about 2 weeks where my glucose control was a bit dodgy i pretty much have no symptoms/complications from the GD at all. lol at "when i blast" though! i'm imagining people having to run screaming pursued by a tidal wave of amniotic fluid

have managed to find another pregnancy acupuncturist who can see me later today, here's hoping i can persuade him to stick a needle in the eject button (or whatever it is they do!)

OP posts:
Confuzzeled · 18/08/2009 07:39

Becks, thats really good, the extra fluid is a pita.

Hope you get spiked in all the right places today. I was thinking of going to a homeopathic place to get some oils that are meant to start labour.

becksydee · 18/08/2009 09:12

clary sage & jasmine essential oils are meant to be good - a few drops in the bath or mixed with a base oil and massaged into your bump. i had a bath with some clary sage last night - didn't do anything but it was nice and relaxing! (although i think trying to stay as relaxed as possible is quite useful in itself)

I have just had a really horrible night.

ds (20mnths) had a high temp last night so I dosed him with nurofen at bedtime, fan in room and kept checking on him. At 10.10pm his temp was down, turned fan down a click and went back downstairs. At 10.40 heard a strange noise on the monitor. Ds having febrile convulsion and going blue. Lasted over 5 1/2 mins while on phone to operator.

Paramedics arrived, blue lighted to hospital, Finally left A&E at 3.30am (ds now high risk for convulsions with any temp)only to go directly to delivery suite because by then contrax every 5 mins and a&e doctor would only let me leave a&e if delivery saw me 1st, threatened to admit ds to paediatric ward if I couldn't arrange childcare. Fortunatly dp had just arrived home from work after my phone call and came to hospital. Lovely midwife checked me over and said I could go home. Got home with ds and into bed at 4.30am.

Moral of the story - don't eat 2 pineapple cores on the eve of your due date when your dp is 1 1/2 hrs away.

Ds still has temp, dd1 now has temp and so do I.

M/w thinks I've got a couple of days to go so hopefully everyone can get sorted by then. She also thinks the last midwife mistook babys shoulder for his head and says he's fully engaged with big shoulders [gulp!]

Massive congratulations to everybody! WOW to giant baby!!!!!

Yank, hang in there!

Keeping fingers, toes and legs crossed that by thursday night everyone will feel better and I can pop.

Really want to go to bed, but can't... Dp will be home at 7.15 i hope...
