I agree Duchesse - am beginning to fantasise about the day I get to lie on my back again...

cairns · 14/08/2009 15:02

Ooh good Luck BabyBump2B and congrats to Heinz and BabyCat. Fab weight BTW.

Well went to hospital yesterday am now 41+ 3 and was surprised that I got to see the main consultant. 2 Pregnancies and the 1st time I get to see him, had to tell DH to behave (as he can be quite tactless on his questioning!).

Anyhow consultant wants me induced ASAP as baby defo v big and needs to come out now... An induction is not what I originally wanted but weighing up the risks etc as DS had shoulder dystocia, I think it is wise to go ahead. So am going in tonight at 9pm for a pessary, DH can stay for a bit but then he has to go home. So fun evening for me on a busy antenatal ward .. (will be taking earplugs, mask and book and attempting sleep) while the prostin gel does its work....

Hawkmoth · 14/08/2009 16:24

Good luck Cairns!

I was offered an induction today due to BP being up a bit still. Declined in favour of a sweep and booking in for Tuesday instead (unless BP gets worse or settles). Doctor seemed ok with that, and I'm ok too - don't want to have high BP for too long just because I want a homebirth.

Anyway, I was 2.5cm and 75% effaced and the doctor said it should kick off within 24 hours. Fingers bloody crossed!

Hi all,
I haven't been on the thread for ages but just popping in (belatedly) for our birth announcement.

Baby Liam Griffin arrived at 12:16am on Thursday 06/08/09 weighing 8lb 4oz, 40 + 3 overdue.

Had show on Wednesday at 8pm, and then it all happened rather quickly Very strong contractions started at 9pm, went to birthing centre at 11pm and was in the birthing pool and pushing by 11:45pm, baby out at 12:16am. Much quicker but much more intense than my first labour.

Liam is 8 days old and feeding for England. Therefore I should have lots more time to catch up with the goings on on this thread!

Best wishes to everyone still waiting for the big event. Off to join post-natal thread now.....

Confuzzeled · 14/08/2009 18:01

Hey Ladies,
Been in and out of this thread mainly reading.
Just wanted to say good luck Cairns and congrats Mellin. I have a friend called Liam Griffin, he's a fab bloke

Hawkmoth, hope it all kicks off soon.

Longtalljosie · 14/08/2009 18:10

Good luck cairns and Hawkmoth, congratulations Mellin!

Oh please let me be next! Had my induction booked for me today (for 24th - 12 days after due date) and it's depressed me a bit. I don't want to wait that long!

Hawkmoth · 14/08/2009 19:14

Longtalljosie - did they give you a sweep? Read up on them before I had mine, and you should be offered 2-3 before you have an induction.

It wasn't too bad actually, just a bit of presure and pressING IYGWIM.

Anyway, according to contraction master I'm having CTX every three minutes lasting about a minute and a half... but since I can still type, talk and eat a stunningly hot curry I remain skeptical!!!

Mind you... last time noone thought I was in labour until I was squatting by the bed pushing!

Longtalljosie · 14/08/2009 19:28

Ooh Hawk that sounds v promising...

No sweeps until your 41 week checkup in my neck of the woods...

CoonRapids · 14/08/2009 20:29

Good luck Hawkmoth and Cairns. Getting very of you now! Here I don't see the mw again until I'm 41+6! Haven't seen her since 38+6. So at that point, presuming would be sweep and induction pretty much together?! Of course still holding lots of hope that don't get to next Wednesday still pg...

BabyBump2B · 14/08/2009 20:57

Good luck Hawkmoth & Cairns!

Just saw midwife and am finally 3cm so did a stretch & sweep and things are def moving along fast now.

The last 30 hours of contractions have been between 6 - 10 mins and a minute long. Feeling really happy with my care and progress so far. Seem to be coping ok - midwife seems to think we should have a baby in the next 24 hours or so!

josiejo79 · 14/08/2009 21:26

Had a sweep this morning and was told that my Cervix is still closed, so i guess baby isn't coming any time soon! Booked for another sweep at 41+3 with the local midwifes and then induction the same evening at the hospital.

Really need to start bouncing up and down on my ball.

Babybunp2b, hope you are still progressing, Good luck.

Hawkmoth · 14/08/2009 22:20

Have just rung Midwife as Hawkmoth can't sit down now! CMW is going to come and assess. Fingers crossed!

Mr Moth!

duchesse · 14/08/2009 22:49

Ooh, Hawkmoth, how exciting! Good luck.

ScummyMummy · 14/08/2009 23:30

Grrr- just typed really long birth story and lost it! Grr again. So will just let you all know quickly that I had a baby girl, Marianne, yesterday. She is gorgeous [biased] and arrived via a most excellent vbac- gas and air, pool, bit of help right at the end from a fantastic vontouse wielding doctor. Labour may or may not have been encouraged by furious vindaloo eating, sex and a sweep the day before and started in the nick of time as they were recommending elective section today if spontaneous labour didn't start, due to discovering slightly lowered amniotic fluid levels at the postdates clinic.

The only irony of the situation is that we're still in hospital due to Marianne being given prophylactic antibiotics every 12 hours via injection ( but she doesn't seem unduly bothered by it) in case the lowered amniotic fluid levels have given her an infection. Her breathing took a little while to settle after birth- bit fast at first- which can be a sign, though it's unlikely as she's doing very well so far. But we were recommended to err on the side of caution and won't know for sure whether she's definitely ok until blood results come back on Sunday or Monday. So I'll end up staying in for up to 5 days for my singleton virginal birth wheras I was in for 2 with my twins born via emergency c section... doh. Can't complain though. Life feels very sweet right now.

Many congratulations to evryone else who's delivered recently and good luck to those still waiting.

Longtalljosie · 15/08/2009 06:13

Aah congratulations ScummyMummy - and welcome Marianne. Lovely name - reminds me of Sense and Sensibility x

Just want to get EVERYONES attention.

I know I have mentioned this possibly twice and I know that someone else brought it up too, but you could be missing out on £500.00 Possibly £1000.00

Ok!! There is a grant for £500.00 Per baby called the surestart maternity grant.

You can claim from 11 weeks prior to your due date, BUT only up until the baby is 3 months old. I know lots of people who have missed out on this one!

Here is the list of requirements...

If you're on a low income, the Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment to help towards costs of a new baby. The grant comes from the Social Fund and you don't have to repay it.
Who is eligible?
You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner receive any of the following:

Income Support
income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
Working tax credit where a disability element is included

link for full information

***

However If you think you are not eligable prior to the baby being born you may become eligable once the baby is born because your tax credit level will change. So its well worth registering your baby with tax credits immediatly and once your updated claim comes through you can check to see if you have become eligable.

I will post this on the postnatal thread too just to make sure everyone sees it.

Longtalljosie · 16/08/2009 07:45

Morning girls.

Well, am 40+4 today. From yesterday have been having the odd experience which might be a sort of false-labour, practice contraction thingy. It's much more intense / painful than Braxton Hicks, takes all my attention - builds up and goes... but I only had three of them yesterday (two quite close together 11amish - I thought we were off - and one in the evening.

Have had another just now.

What do we think? Clearly it's not proper labour but might it mean we're building up to something?
