Hi Gwenny -
Glad you are better. It is all go on this thread at the moment isn't it? Hope your kitchen will be sorted soon. What a nightmare! Your Mum sounds wonderful.
Nesting hmmm. The only form it took for me was panic buying food. We had more tins of tomatoes last time than you would know what to do with! This time there is lots I should be doing but the lure on MN wins...

gwenynbee · 25/05/2005 14:25

Hey Cooperoo!

How are you doing? I'll make sure that I stock up on the old tinned tomatoes (even though I hate them!) I just wish that the kitchen was done!!! I am sick of eating out, and I had hoped to make big batches of casseroles and stuff to freeze before ds arrives....I guess that will have to wait a bit longer, and probably by then the urge will have disappeared!

You're right! My Mam is the best! She's bought me 3 dozen terry nappies and has got them on the line now! Her neighbours have commented how lovely they look all on the line! I really wish that I could be doing stuff like this now too!
I have great aspirations to be this green eco earth mother but I am sure that when the time comes it will be Huggies and Wipes!!

x

Cooperoo · 25/05/2005 14:32

Hey Gweny
Lots of us on this thread use/are planning to use cloth so you will get plenty of support if you want to go for it. I haven't used terries though apart from for putting under dd during nappy free time. I love seeing my nappies on the line though!! I have no excuse not to batch cook but really am not inspired. Have decided we will live on tuna, salad and jackets or take away.

Cooperoo · 25/05/2005 14:34

I also have a pack of newborn Pampers in reserve lol.

teabelly · 25/05/2005 15:26

Afternoon all

WOW about Welshie - just popped into the stats page first to see if Lummox had posted - and boy did I get a surprise! I'm assuming by her absence tho that Lummox is busy doing the business as we speak awaiting exciting news there soon!

Well I'm still here, and the period pains have gone mostly - mw says it was babe becoming FULLY engaged so could be any time now ...however 2nd ones tend to pop in and out so I could still have a couple of weeks left! It's funny, I'm not even due til Saturday, but with all these early birds I feel late already!!

Re the 3/5 etc engaged thing I believe mw's can mean it one of two ways...some say they can feel 1/5 of the head out of the cervix so they would record it as 4/5 engaged (nearly there!) or they could mark that down as 1/5 remaining to engage...not overly helpful I know if they don't distinguish but it could mean Coop that you are very nearly there??? I guess you would have to ask at your next appoints.

My dh has a day course coming up next wednesday where he'll have to go to Ipswich (about 2hrs away) but I won't complain as that doesn't seem that far or that long now that I read some of your posts

Gweny - glad you're feeling better and the sickness has gone for now...isn't your mum a poppet...and re the nesting and energy thing - absolutely no energy here at all...have been dozing on the sofa since coming back from my 11.30 mw appoint and only got up to check on here!!

Mrs F - did you manage to finish those accounts yet? I meant to say earlier I felt for you - I am an accounts bod and I don't think my mind could cope at the moment!

KVG - good to hear from you too...was wondering abit by your absence...then thought no, far too early...then again...!

Charley - hope it all went ok yesterday

Coop - LOL at the two dd's...and bless at her shouting out her name as they left...have tears in my eyes and I don't know any of you!!!!!

Right will go and make a cuppa and rest abit more before picking ds up from mil (lovely lady is still having him for me on tues & wed) - take care all - and expect to see a note from Lummox when I log on tomorrow!

Wow - early babies aplenty!!! Is there something in the water? And what's so bad about June that you'd all prefer to have your babies in May? I don't know...where's your loyalty to us Junies ?

Saw the mi/w yesterday. Head is down, but she didn't go into details about this 3/5, 4/5 malarkey so I'm no clearer really. Having said that, ds never engaged at all, so it is a bit odd seeing such a low bump all of a sudden.

Had a fab birthday yesterday - dh treated me like a queen and even got ame a birthday cake with sparklers in it - I got all teary and slushy - he's so lovely to me and has been such a brilliant support through this whole pg and I've been hard work

I got a whole load of smelly bath things from the Sanctuary cos he said I deserved to be pampered - awwww.

Ds was born at this point in my last pg, so it's all uncharted territory from here on in. I'm really excited now and desperate for baby to arrive.

My gran let it slip yesterday that my mum is running a bet on the sex?!?!? She's got a tenner on baby being a girl, my brother says it's a boy - who knows who else is involved- - I just hope I see some of this cash

Will any of the Junies actually give birth in June??

Catch up soon - deep breaths and relaaaaaaax!

tribpot · 25/05/2005 16:06

Ah, another advantage of 'working from home' I am reading Mumsnet whilst dh hoovers the hall. Mind you, we are having to tidy up for a visit from his dad this evening (never met him, he didn't even come to our wedding) so I am not very inspired to do anything myself, particularly after 3 hours' sleep.

I have done a review of this thread to see who has been told they are 3/5 and who has been told something different (excluding those of us who haven't been told anything at all). Coop, you are the only one who's been told something other than 3/5, and the following people have been told they are 3/5:

megi, Jonah, bubba, MrsW, Uki, KVG

Coincidence? I think not. (As you can tell, I am v busy with work just now) My guess is that 3 is half way between 1 and 5 so it makes a good guess. I think I will ask my midwife tomorrow.

Lynny, good to hear from you and glad to hear that Leona has gone a-visiting, I was worried you would be trying to do too much when you're meant to be resting. I'll bet she's having a great time! Lee sounds like a star.

I missed a call from work earlier cos I was getting a back massage from dh Hurrah for working from home!

teabelly · 25/05/2005 16:13

Ooh Trib - and me too I'm fully engaged she said so 5/5!!! And the embarrassing penguin waddle is very definite proof!

Cooperoo · 25/05/2005 16:17

Tea - Glad you think I might be nearly fully engaged too. That was the impression I got as she said 'all the way to 4/5'. I will check next week. It certainly feels like it is well down anyway. I know it doesn't really make a difference and second timers can pop in and out but at least it explains all the pressure and twinges down there.
Lynny - Aww you soppy old thing. I think the drugs have kicked in . Seriously I know what you mean. I have loved sharing all my pregnancy and life stuff on here. You made it sound like you weren't coming back though....
Leona will be fine with her dad. I hope you won't worry too much. It is the best thing for both of you and you must just rest and try to take things easy. Do you know if they are planning to induce or have they mentioned a section? Take care anyhow.
McMud - Glad you had such a lovely birthday!! I have some Sanctuary stuff I have been saving for a special occasion and I think I will be treating myself this Friday as we have our Spring Ball and so it will be a good excuse.

Cooperoo · 25/05/2005 16:27

Hi Trib - X posted. I like the sound of your working from home too. Back massages and housework done around you.
Why has DH's dad decided to grace you with his presence? Will it be a difficult visit? Hope it goes ok.
I have rung the ward today and they still have no news on the clinic Grrr. The problem now is that they have sent too many midwives away on courses/postings etc and they are not sure they can offer the service. The midwife I spoke to is my favorite one down there though so that was nice. She is really too as she said she has flagged this problem up for months and no action has been taken. I feel it is time for another letter to be written to the CO as I think it is now very pathetic that they have the money and still can't offer the service. They should have just organised for gas and air at Limassol or non problem deliveries at the military hospital (as I suggested ha ha). I had a letter from them last week I think saying that we have to go directly to Limassol hospital too not via TPMH as they got wind that a lot of us second timers were going to try leaving it late so we could deliver at the military hospital. I still haven't had a tour either. They have said they will call me about that tomorrow morning though so fingers crossed. I am beginning to give up now. I just want this baby safely and don't want to have to demand that it stays with me and get funny looks when I ask to go home so soon. Sigh. Tired now.
Hope all is OK with Megi...

JonahB · 25/05/2005 17:07

Aw Lynny, big hugs to you. Try not to get stressed about asking for help at this stage. Your Lee sounds just wonderful and is happy to be able to offer you this support.

Trib, working from home is so fantastic. I?m a home worker and that is one thing that has been a total blessing throughout this pgy. When I needed to rest/stretch/change position to ease various aches and pains, doing it in the comfort of ones own house is so lovely. Plus, I?ve been able to live in jogging bottoms for the majority of the time .

I?ve just got back from my first unofficial ante-natal group meeting in a local coffee shop. There were 5 of us there today, all of whom seemed like a supportive, friendly bunch. They all seem to think I?m going to deliver 1st (I?m the 1st by calendar date). I hope and pray they are right

berolina · 25/05/2005 17:25

Evening all!
OOOOOOHHHHH about Welshie! What a surprise!
Am just home from hospital to get out of the institutional atmosphere for a bit and have dinner with dh. Today was a bit up and down. This morning we had bad news - his bilirubin had gone up again and he'd lost 50g . It had also been very difficult to get him to go on the breast yesterday and in the night - I and the nurses think he was/is just too knackered to drink (when he does latch on, he takes forever to get tiny amounts out, and that's sapping his strength too) and also gets frustrated quickly when he makes the initial effort and there's no milk immediately. I really want to keep in with bf though, so I settled on the following plan: just before I feed him I express a tiny bit so that there is milk flowing for him, then I let him bf for a maximum of half an hour in total, then I give him expressed milk or (if I haven't managed to express much) formula. That's worked really well the two times I've done it, and I'm managing to express 3-4 oz a time, although it does take a while. This is the first full day he's had decent amounts at every feeding. They checked his bilirubin again to see whether he needed to go under the lamp, but this afternoon it had fallen again , so he'll be checked again tomorrow. I expect we'll be in at least until the weekend, but I'm feeling better now, particularly about feeding, and we're making sure we bond with him. Now it's a case of hanging in there really

uwila · 25/05/2005 17:36

I'm so sorry. I've gotten so far behind on this thread I haven't got a hope of catching up. Skimmed it a bit -- enough to FINALLY find out Welshies baby is a boy. That's one more for the football team.

Bero, so sorry about your worries. Ales has a touch of jaundice, but not like yours. He's a bit yellowish and very sleepy. I'm struggling a b it with the feeding too because he just falls asleep. He hasn't been under the lights -- never got that bad. But, I was reading up about jaundice on the web last night and discovered that formula is actually better for getting rid of the jaundice than breastmilk. Of course it's a catch 22 because topping up is not advised if you want to breast feed. I think your plan sounds like a sensible one.

Good luck, and hope the littleonw comes home soon. It must be so hard on you to be separated. (((hugs)))

charleypops · 25/05/2005 20:31

Hi everyone!

Goodness, all these engaged babies, shows etc, it's suddenly so exciting and nervewracking on here - so much for growing my nails!

Welshie Congratulations! on you new BOY Hope it all went well. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Sorry for not posting sooner - I've had a gastro thing for the last couple of days - puking, diarrhea so I've been in bed and away from the pc. Much better now. Managed to keep my appointment at the hospital yesterday though. All good news, thank goodness, and I've been signed off by the consultant. He's just small - they reckon he's 5lbs 7 at the moment, so if they're right, he should achieve about 6lbs 4 if we get to 40 weeks (we're 37 tomorrow), which I don't think is particularly small considering my (non pg) size. Thanks for asking after me everyone

Gweny - hope you're feeling better now

bubb- getting out of bed must be hell for you - it's bad enough for me - I'm all achey and hobbling around like an arthritic 100 year old first thing in the morning and I don't have spd.

Red - sorry your dd's been having tantrums - She'll be over the moon though when her new baby arrives.

Lua - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Not everyone suffers through having an induction though according to posts I've read on here.

Coop - lol at your clever dd! So did you do the dirty last night with dh? There is NO WAY I could but I admire all of you who are So sorry you're going to miss your friend and her dd so much - the scene you painted almost brought a tear to my eye. Sorry your hospital stuff's not been sorted out yet. It must ber really unsettling. Why is it people seem to accumulate millions of tins of tomatoes in their cupboards?

Lummox - any news?

Bero - it sounds like you're both doing really well with the feeding - you've had a very successful couple of days and it's still very early days. At least while he's in hospital you have lots of support and resources.

KVG - What a nightmare, your dh having to go away for two weeks, I'm really glad you'll have your mum with you.

Pink - how did your exams go?

Megi - are you around? What did the hospital want?

Lynny - Hang in there - not long now. I'm sure Lynny will be making the very most of a change of scene and it sounds like there's no shortage of love at your house. ((hug)) x

McMudda - glad you had a lovely birthday!

Trib - hope all's going well with your FIL this evening

Uwila - good luck with the feeding - are you going to use a bit of formula?

bubbaloo · 25/05/2005 21:12

charley-nice to see you back.
sorry to hear you havent been well-at least your'e on the mend now and have good news from the hospital!!
dont know how you can even think about growing your nails-ive bitten all mine off in the last few days-ha ha!!

Franniban · 25/05/2005 22:10

Hi everyone, I've not posted for so long, it;s really good to catch up with everyone's news. And all these new babies! Congratulations to everyone. Sorry to hear about the difficulties that some of you are going through though.
I've finally finished work, which is heaven, espcailly after they tried to make me redundant, so am now manically cleaning the house and spending time with ds, as it wont be long before he has to share.
It's great to be able to log on during the day and see what people have been upto, no big brother watching me at home.

Anyway, off to try and get some sleep now, as not sleeping very well at night. Same all round I guess.

Night night!

Cooperoo · 26/05/2005 05:07

Morning all
Bero - It sounds like you are doing BRILLIANTLY and you sound so sensible about everything when I know it must be so hard seeing Samuel like this. I really admire you and your common sense. I didn't have any when d was born. All the best
Uwila - Sorry to hear Alex has a touch of jaudice too but glad it is not serious and you are doing OK.
Yay Charley. I think your baby will be a very respectable size when he arrives. Glad the consultant has signed you off so you can plan that waterbirth again.
Megi - Any news? Take care and thinking of you.
Lummox - Hope you are OK too and will have some happy news for us soon.
Is anyone else still in shock over Welshies early arrival. I really did not see that one coming. Very exciting.
Had a phone call from the hospital inviting me and DH to a tour of Limassol this Wed. Made me laugh as I had rung asking for it an hour before. It clashes with my m/w appt so I will have to try and change that but I think it is important for us to know where we are going as Limassol seems to be the likely option now.
Have good days all. I have decided that dd and I are off to the beach this morning to build sandcastles and have a padddle. She doesn't stray too far on the beach as she doesn't like the feel of the sand on her feet lol. I will have to get her some of those beach shoes. We had some last year and they were briliant as otherwise the sand/ground would have burnt her. I never did do my internet shopping yesterday either so that is something to look forward to as well.

karen01 · 26/05/2005 05:10

Cooperoo- (sorry JUne 04 mum invading again) were are you in Cyprus- I am in Vrysoulles.

karen01 · 26/05/2005 05:11

well Ay Nik

Cooperoo · 26/05/2005 05:25

Morning Karen - I am at Akrotiri!! Small world. Are you or your DH forces then?? How long have you been here? DH is RAF. We nearly got Ay Nik but got Akrotiri at the last minute.

karen01 · 26/05/2005 05:27

DH is in Army he is a Tech. My Aunty is RSM at Akrotiri. How long have you been over here. I have been here for 10 months

Cooperoo · 26/05/2005 05:31

We will have been here two years in July. I have really enjoyed it but I am ready to go back in Jan when we are posted. Do you like it here?

karen01 · 26/05/2005 05:36

yeah I do like it. I do feel for you being heavily pg with the heat we have had over the last 2-3 weeks, I am dreading the summer summer have been told it is going to be one of the hottest for years!! Have you found the maternity care satisfactory with all the probs here. I was thinking about a number three but the thought of having to to to Larnaca put us off. I have heard good and bad stories.

What I like most about living here is it has chilled me out and I can give DD (8 1/2yrs ) more freedom than I could in the uK. Oh and the fact that most of the the time after school we can hit the beaches and the pools do you know where you are going next. We leave in Dec 2006.
