Good Morning Everyone

One day soon I will log on a little later than usual and have a live chat to you all. I just get really bored about 2pm time here and need a fix.

Thanks for all your good wishes, Blood pressure was normal today, but still have to do all day tests monday- over cautious doctors!!!

I think my suspected waters breaking was just watery mucus, which apparently does increase before labour. I am 38 weeks today, so baby could still be potentially early. I have everything fully ready now. car seat fitted, basinette made up with a wrapped up cookie monster keeping the bed warm till baby arrives, dh thought about taking that to work on friday, as he had nothing else to show them.

keep cool everyone. I think summer is nice for babies, but not so nice for pregnant ladies and the opposite for winter.

Although i am still getting like really hot sometimes and then sometimes i have freeezing cold feet.

charleypops · 28/05/2005 10:27

Morning everyone!

My, what a lot to catch up on! Missed yesterday because just after posting on Thursday evening, I got all sick with that bug again. Dragged myself to docs yesterday morning, then slept all day, but (so far) feel fine today. My sore throat's gone though

Hi Welshie - It sounds like it all went pretty near perfectly for you I can just picture him! Glad you're home this time and I hope you continue to recover well xx

Hi MrsW, how's the potty training going today? How old is he?

Trib - good point about the dads driving home safely - as for the pool, I've not ruled out a mobile epidural myself. Back ache's a killer isn't it? Can't you sit back to front on chair next Parentcraft meeting you have? - a few of us did at our and it seemed to help. I hope you're not working too hard.

Coop - how did you ball go?

Uki - Glad your blood pressure stableised and good luck for Monday. You sound very organised - my matress hasn't even arrived yet! Lol at your Cookie Monster baby! Shouldn't be long for you now....

Lippy - i'm sorry your mws scared you like that and the ctg must have been worrying - I suppose we've had it relatively easy though compared to some up til now. So know what you mean about not being able to take medication when we're ill - I almost enjoy being off colour so I can indulge in a bit of Night Nurse normally

Lua - Wow - you'll have a brand new little baby in your arms on Wednesday! How exciting! i hope you do go into labour really soon - have you a gym ball you can bounce up and down on? apparenlty that helps. Do you know if you'll be induced or are you looking at a cs?

Bero - thanks for the breathing tips! Sounds like you're doing really well with Samuel - how are you feeding him formula on those occasions? Are you using a bottle or a cup? Sounds like you're expressing a very healthy amount

McM - no advice I'm afraid on the potty training - how old is he? I've no idea when pt starts.

Jonah - lol at you having to persuade dh You might have to try it a few times before anything happens...

Tea - I did have a curry on Thursday - just before I got my sickness and diarrhorea back again! The upside though is that I've lost 2 or 3 pounds!

Katz - Hi! I thought next time we'd here from you you'd be introducing your baby!

Scraggy - omg - still working!! Hope you get paid double!

gwenynbee · 28/05/2005 10:32

Dear All! Hope that you are all well and hanging on in there - no babies since I last visited!!!

Am I glad that it all (should) be over in 4weeks (6 at the most!) after yesterday, an absolute scorcher here in Brum yesterday which did my head in! I had to sit down every 15mins, and my waddle seemed particularly bad!

A few of my friends are due end of July and August! I really don't envy them if we are going to get this heatwave they keep on promising us!

House is still an absolute tip, but I have gone past caring now! I refuse to get stressed about it!

Anyway my dears hope that you enjoy this Bank Holiday weekend, take it easy x x x

JonahB · 28/05/2005 11:25

Hi Everyone,

Scraggy, I can?t believe your boss is expecting you to do more work when you are officially on maternity leave. You are right, it is really unfair of him to put you in this position and is abusing your good nature. Can you start your mat leave a day later than planned, as you will be working for an extra day? Apart from that, do enjoy your pool party!

Trib, I think that there is something in common with all chairs at ante-natal meetings. Ours were crippling. It was actually funny in a tragic way watching all 12 of us wiggling in discomfort for the entire afternoon every week.

Charley, a few times!!!! Do we have to???? I was immensely proud of us for managing it once this late in pgy . DH made me laugh ? he told me afterwards that he had to keep his hands totally away from my bump region as that would have totally put him off .

Franniban · 28/05/2005 11:26

Morning all, thank god it's not so hot! Feel a real heel complaining about the heat, but it wasn#t comfortable was it!
Had to lie down with fan going full blast!

Anyway, packed my bag this morning, which is very exciting, but do feel that these next couple of weeks are going to drag. I really want to make the best of things with ds, as it'll be his last chance to be with us by himself, but it's quite hard when you feel tired most of the time.

Enough moaning! Hope everyone has a great weekend,
take care

berolina · 28/05/2005 13:20

Afternoon!
Well, little Samuel never ceases to surprise me - after a whole day yesterday with screaming at the breast, in his night feeds he just went on without any fuss and actually drank - and he has been this morning too . He's still not getting a lot out of the breast, so I'm carrying on expressing (but giving it a break now and then) and giving formula - particularly as it's 33 c here and I want to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. He was awake all morning as well - not crying, just lying there with big eyes exploring and watching what was going on
Charley, glad you're feeling better.
Scraggyaggy, grrrr at your employer - you should definitely see about getting paid for any work you do in your leave, or extend it the other end.
Cobweb, glad little Brandon is doing well.

MrsWednesday · 28/05/2005 14:47

That is good news Berolina, it sounds like he's really getting there. How are you doing with it all?

Uki, glad the blood pressure has dropped, hope everything goes ok on Monday.

Tea, I won't ask you if there is any news because you're probably getting bombarded with calls asking that question, but I do hope things start moving soon.

Cobweb, Brandon sounds like a little star. Are his brothers enjoying him too?

Scraggy, what a nightmare about work. Any chance you could get it all done on Monday and make that your last day instead? You really deserve a bit of break before the baby arrives.

Cooperoo, how was your ball?

Franniban, I'm the same - feel like I should be doing more stuff with DS but I am lacking in energy and motivation. And, I'm ashamed to say, patience.

Charleypops, sorry to hear you've been poorly again, sounds horrible.

Potty training isn't going well . He's in nappies again today after several accidents yesterday and this morning. We did have one successful poo in the potty - why are they more disgusting in the potty than in the nappy? I nearly threw up! Sorry.

Lynny, you ok by the way? Haven't heard from you for a while.

Well DS is watching telly and DH is having a nap so I think I'll make the most of the peace and quiet and go and lie down with a book.

Take care everyone.

lummox · 28/05/2005 20:43

Hello all,

Thanks so much to everyone for your congratulations. It has been an amazing time.

We've been home for a couple of nights now and everything still seems incredibly weird and new.

I think the last time I posted I was worrying about how long they would leave things before inducing labour! That didn't turn out to be an issue.

Labour was pretty long though and we couldn't stay at the Birth Centre throughout - we had to go into hospital right at the very end (about twenty minutes before he was born).

Baby and me had to stay in hospital for a few hours, but were allowed out (after a bit of whining to be allowed to go home) about 12 hours after he was born.

Baby is fantastic.

Just totally fantastic.

I'm not finding bf very easy - milk hasn't come in yet, and he only seems to want to feed two or three times a day, so I'm finding it hard not to worry about him getting hungry or dehydrated. Am hoping that milk may make that easier - any advice appreciated!

Have not had the chance to read through the whole of the thread, but have really appreciated people's good wishes. Will be posting a birth announcement soon.

Hope that everyone is doing well - I was convinced that I would go overdue and be the last person left posting on the June thread (to the sound of tumbleweed passing). Don't suppose anyone on the June thread needs this advice given how many of us have already had babies, but you really can't pack that bag too early.

Just one other thought - when my waters broke, the midwife suggested I go straight to bed to conserve energy. Unfortunately I was too excited and didn't take the advice. Forty eight hours later when I still hadn't slept I was wishing that I had.

Many congratulations to the Mirage and Welsh families - hope you are getting a chance to relax and enjoy your new babies.

Good luck for all the people who are getting so close. Hope everything goes really well.

And best wishes to everyone else - am looking forward to the Junies table filling up and hearing about the new arrivals.

(Should have said - on the stats front that baby Jonathan was 7 lb 12 oz).

Off for some sleep now.......

Noggermum · 29/05/2005 08:36

Hi Lummox, just wanted to say, don't worry about the feeding. Same thing happened to me with DD1 - she had no interest at all for two days - just wanted to sleep- to the point where the hospital wanted me to give her formula. I am glad I resisted, but I panicked about how much she was consuming too and ended up trying to express colostrum (nearly impossible and was a root cause in my four weeks of cracked and bleeding nipples and huge pain). i was reading the other day that babies are born with extra cells in their tummies to tied them over til bfeeding is established. Anyway, DD1 suddenly got quite lively after two or three days (possibly coincided with my milk coming in) and after that she was wanting a good eight hour long feeds a day! So all was well.

Congratulations eceryone now at home with their little ones.

Today is my due date and I am waiting to join the overdue club! No niggles, no cramps (well, expect for in my legs and that is not where the baby appears!) no signs of anything happening at all. Ho hum. I obviously have the gestation period of an elephant.

Cooperoo · 29/05/2005 11:21

Hello all. Apologies now as I have only scanned the posts. I just wanted to check in and see if there was any more baby news etc. We actually have some overdue now don't we? I was doubting that would happen at one point.
Thanks to those of you who asked about the ball. It was fantastic fun and I didn't make it to bed until 3am!! The time flew by. I did have a little panic as I drove home that if the baby did decide to come early I was going to be far too tired to cope but I am still here with no new twinges so all is well. The food was fantastic and just available on tap all night. The entertainment was brilliant too with great dancers, different singers, acrobats, a band, disco, funfair games, cocktail/karaoke bar and arcade games on freeplay and a casino. We were sat on a good table and so had good company too and the night just flew by. My legs and feet were very swollen though so we only had one slow dance and I spent most of the time sitting down but all in all I think I did quite well. I made it up with dd at 0700 too, but went back to bed at 1030 till 1300. We then drove into Limassol to buy my maternity bras only to discover that all the shops shut at 1400 on a Saturday. M&S shut at 1500 but we were too late for there too. You can tell we never go shopping can't you. We have only lived here 22 months! The one place that was open was the Bear Factory so the bump has a new bear from us at least. Spent the rest of the day dozing etc and was in bed by 9. Mmmm lovely sleep.
Lady in the Bear Factory asked where I would have the baby and her face when I said Limassol General was a picture. It did not inspire confidence. She thought I had made a mistake. We shall see after the tour on Wed. I was a bit emotional last night as I was tired and fed up about it all again....but I am a bit better today as I really have NO choice at all.
Anyway enough of my me me me post. Hope everyone is well.
Where are you Lynny??
Will catch up properly soon I promise.

teabelly · 29/05/2005 12:55

Afternoon all

Well nothing happened yesterday (thanks for asking Mrs W) despite consuming a whole giant ripe pineapple (core and all as that's the 'special' bit for labour), nor the curry last night or the wearing of brilliant white trousers to bring waters or labour on so I am now officially overdue... I think she's just too comfortable in there, esp as any pains I had before have completely vanished now! Maybe we should have added a most overdue category to the sweepstake Katz - I have a feeling now I might be about to start competeing for that prize!

Noggermum hope you don't get too many phone calls over the next day or so...I had 7 yesterday , so am gonna start leaving the phone to make them think something has happened, he he he!

Coop glad your ball was a success - wow 3am I'm impressed...I can't seem to stay up much past 9pm these days

Lummox - great that you're settling in ok with little Jonathan...I didn't breastfeed ds, but if I rememeber right as Nogger says, they have built in reserves and ds wasn't overly fussed about feeds for a few days either, but he soon made up for it, and hasn't stopped since!

Mrs W - I know what you mean about the potty training we had a few false starts with ds just before and around christmas. Ended up doing a cross between pants and pull ups for a few weeks. Then when we tried again he just seemed ready. One great help was the nursery tho...they suggested putting him in just trousers (no pants) as apparently this helps them to feel the urge, where pants hold them close like a nappy does iykwim. We did this for a week or two and then were able to put pants on again no problems. Also sticker chart was a massive help too...found some fab stickers in Tesco's and ds had a little book to put them in that he was very proud to show off! HTH.

Must go now - due at mil's for lunch...will catch up later. x

tribpot · 29/05/2005 13:27

Afternoon ladies! Sorry tea and Nogger that you seem to be stuck in a holding pattern, circling the landing site as it were. I fear some of our June ladies have taken your landing slots and now you have to wait for the all clear from Air Traffic Control

(Or something like that, am waiting for news that dh has landed safely from Amsterdam, bizarrely his flight is meant to be arriving half an hour late despite leaving 15 mins early ... and the flight only lasts for 40 mins!).

Lummox, great to hear from you - Nogger's quite right, babies have special reserves to get them through the first few days, I guess til mum's milk comes in. At least, that's what they said on my Norwegian bf video so it must be true. Will update the stats with Jonathan's weight.

Bero, pleased to hear that little Samuel is getting the hang of things! Stick with it, you're doing great.

Tea, I particularly liked the 'wear white trousers' approach. Inspired Can't believe you had so many phone calls - what do people think, that you might have had the baby but just forgotten to tell them?!

Coop, I am absolutely amazed at your stamina, boogying til 3 a.m. (even if you were mostly sitting down really).

Franniban · 29/05/2005 14:15

Afternoon ladies,
Yes Lummox, I remember with DS he didn't kick in with the feeding until at least 3 days, so try not to worry.
I'm very impressed with the 3am bit Coop, I made it until 11.30 last night, and 3 glasses of wine. (not so good).
Ds tipped over in his pushchair yesterday, with his nana in charge! So has a graze on the side of his head. Seemed ok, but it is worrying when they hit their heads. Felt sorry for my mother, as she feels mortified! Still off to hers for dinner tonight.
Lummox, I cannot agree more with you on the conserving energy front. Same thing happened to me with ds, after 48 hours and no sleep, and then the contractions realy kick in, you definately need energy. Makes life a bit easier if you are not so knackered. Then again, it is so exciting that it is hard to sleep.
Must go, ds squwarking for lunch!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, all

LipstickMum · 29/05/2005 16:18

Hello girls

What? No new babies???!!!

Teabelly, what are you up to? Don't disillusion my dreams of 2nd babies coming early/on time in about 2 hours I feel for you, hope you get some labour action soon!!

I'm still living at MIL's, it's just too dusty and crappy here Carpets will be fiteed on Friday, so that is the end of the messyness.

Did I mention I have a cleaner She's coming for 3 hours on Thursday, to sort out all the dust on the skirtings etc before the carpets come. From then on, every week until further notice. Another good decision. It is impossible getting things done with a toddler around, which means dp is lumbered with most of the remaining painting I've done a few bits and pieces, but nothing to strenuous at all.

Hence, I am not getting on here much, but will try and get on at MIL's to see if any new babies are here!!!

Lots of love xx

uwila · 29/05/2005 17:15

Hiya all,
I've been such a slacker on here lately. Sorry. This new baby and toddler thing is running me ragged. Actually, I shouldn't complain. DH has been taking DD out and leaving me time to tend to just the baby. But the end is in sight as he returns to work tomorrow, so we'll see how I manage without help.

Anyway, all is well with us. And can I just say that I love that everyone else has to go to work on Tuesday and I DON'T

I see Lua hasn't posted for a day or two. Wonder if she has any news to report???

karen01 · 29/05/2005 18:10

Hi Cooperoo- We are a little alike yes. my DD is more like her than I am. Glad you enjoyed the ball. I am over in Akrotiri Monday and Tuesday as DH is playing Rugby. We are going to Stay at my aunties house for the night. May bring the dog if I can't get her into the kennels. If you are at the Rugby look out for me and come and stay hello.

Take Care

Karen

gwenynbee · 29/05/2005 19:04

Dear Ladies! Still no more babies!!

Had a home visit from MW today, all well apart from my last blood tests - have to go up the hospital on Wednesday, but she's assured me that there isn't anything to worry about too much, especially as there's less than 4 weeks to go!

Could anybody enlighten me on what 4/5th's means - she said that I was 4/5ths engaged or something! I've had a look in my books but can't find anything!! She seems to think that due to my previous obstetric history that they won't let me go over my EDD which is good, because I just can't wait now! I just hope the kitchen will be finished in time!

Thinking of you all!

uwila · 29/05/2005 20:07

4/5ths means that the baby's head is 4/5ths engaged only 1/5 to go. This is usually a sign of pending labour, but could still be weeks. So it doesn't sound to me like there's notmuch risk of going over your due date of course I'm no expert on waiting around for things to happen naturally. One was induced and the other (as you all know) went straight to theatre for eviction. :-)

Speaking of which, today is Alex's due date but he's already 10 days old -- and oh so CUTE!

gwenynbee · 29/05/2005 20:27

Thanks for that Ulwila! Oooooh! I am excied now, as I've just had a look at my notes - and last week ds was "free" so it's happened the other 4/5ths have happened in a week!

I know the longer they're in there the better, but I just can't wait - been up the duff now for 50 weeks out of 66 so I am really tired of being pregnant(lost ds1 at 24wks last June, it will be his "first b'day" next week , but I am trying my best to keep a positive mental attitude for "new" ds. Can't wait to put him in all the chav clothes I've bought him, and finally get to push a pram down the street with joy, instead of wanting to cry at other people's happiness!

Will really have to start cracking the whip at dp to get a wriggle on with finishing the kitchen!!

gwenynbee · 29/05/2005 20:37

Doh! Got my sums wrong - I've just realised that I have been pregnant for 60 weeks out of a possible 76! No wonder I am so shattered, it's got to have some toll on your body!

Right then, Raspberry Leaf Tea by the gallon starting next Friday, fresh pineapple with every meal, and urgh - will I have to do it with dp????!!!!!!

bubbaloo · 29/05/2005 22:02

gweny-know exactly what you mean.im also getting really fed up now and just want him out.ive been having the raspberry leaf tea for about a week(which i really like!),had an indian on saturday and a whole pineapple today but its not working yet!
even tried seducing poor dh and that didnt work either,so looks like he's not coming out till he's good and ready!!
oh well...we've waited this long!!!

PinkArjuna · 30/05/2005 01:19

Aww lummox last time I posted I thought I must say congratulations and then didn't add it too my thread. Congratulations

I hope everyone is ok. I've come over all sick and shakey this evening. Don't know if that means anything but I have added some stuff to my bag. Maybe I have picked up a bug. Well dunno really. I seem to have the runs too well I'm going to try and go to sleep again. Night

Cooperoo · 30/05/2005 05:56

Morning all,
Karen - I should be at the 10's this week as DH is helping to coach the Flamingos. He would be playing but has a broken thumb so is quite disappointed. I will def keep an eye out for you. I am looking forward to it. All those men in little shorts hee hee. (Of course my DH has the best legs and bum, but it doesn't hurt to look .)
Pink - Hope you are OK. How rotten to be ill at this stage of the game (like poor Charley). Rest up....who knows it may be the start of something...
Gweny - Hello to you too. I think you are incredibly brave. It won't be long now before you have this little one in your arms. I was told I was 4/5 engaged too and even though it supposedly doesn't make a difference (it was 2 weeks ago now) I was quite excited that everything is moving in the right direction.
Bubb - I am working up to seducing DH too but I am obviously not desperate enough yet . Perhaps it is because my bag is still not properly packed as I have to buy my nursing bras, hopefully today. I think I will be waiting another week anyway.
Uwila - Great to see you too. I do imagine the post natal thread will be quieter than this one. . The whole baby and toddler thing is scary, so any tips gratefully received. I am lucky DH should be off for two weeks initially. Hope you are healing well after your op too.
DD has discovered Shrek 2 this weekend and LOVES donkey. She can't say Shrek though. At least I think I have a DVD to keep her occupied during the bumps mammoth first feeds (if it happens that way this time) and one that won't drive me potty!

mrsflowerpot · 30/05/2005 09:13

Morning everyone

Thought I'd better come on and check on you all as I had the most vivid dream that everyone had had their babies over the weekend except me! But some of you are still around anyway. I think I'll be here for a while yet - saw midwife on Saturday (home visit, v relaxing!) and baby is still totally free and showing no signs of engaging. So I imagine I will be pregnant and enormous for some time still. Not entirely bad as we are scrambling around trying to get the house ready to go on the market - forced dh to repaint our bedroom with me yesterday, still have to do bits and pieces (like finishing the kitchen that I never quite finished off in 2003 ). So if baby could hold on a fortnight or so it would help us out.

Anyway, have abandoned poor ds having his breakfast to come on here so should go and attend to him - he keeps saying 'Muuummmmy' in a really plaintive voice poor chap. (he is sitting around in his spiderman pants - they are obviously the pants of choice for small boys at the moment MrsW!). Won't be around much this week as we are going househunting down in Bournemouth for a few days from tomorrow - look forward to more baby news when I get back!

Have a good week everyone.

welshmum · 30/05/2005 09:21

Morning all, feel bad that I haven't managed to keep up at all with what's been going on. Apologies. It's been a bit busy here - in-laws arrived from NZ on Saturday and what with a new baby and all....time just goes.
Haven't managed to read much but I had the same situation with ds not wanting to feed for about 24-36 hours, but it's all come good now and he seems to be doing pretty well.
He's just so damn gorgeous - I'm totally loved up and enjoying being a family - dh has been fantastic and dd is coping well too with the new little tank parked on her lawn.
Just to say I am thinking of you all, but just having trouble finding time to read in. It'll get quieter tomorrow when dd goes back to nursery - will catch up then - love from the Welshies.
