Is his latch okay?
Have you tried feeding in different positions? Lying down works well for us.

If Xanthe isn't feeding well, fussing etc and I think she should be having the other side, I feed her one side then I burp her, and change her nappy. This seems to rouse her and once changed I either put her back to the same side or if she def emptied that breast I offer the other side.
Sometimes she'll take it sometimes not.

she's crying to be fed I'll be back though to see how you get on...

lardybump · 04/05/2009 20:07

Because of the reflux we had to stop feeding lying down because we were told he should be as upright as poss, we change his nappy first as well so we dont have to lay him down soon after a feed. His latch is fine he finds me all the time and takes the whole of the areola in his mouth...

This has only just started to be a problem so I am hoping it is because he is under the weather. Up till now he has been feeding quiet well..

He just went on for ten mins and fell asleep so I took him into the garden for 5 mins and woke him up then put him back on same breast and he went back on for 15 mins so he had 25 mins that time... He is asleep again now so hopefully he has had hind milk this time.. How do you know if they have emptied the breast???

sorkycakey · 04/05/2009 21:53

It sounds as if everything is going well. That last feed might well set him back on the right track You are doing fab LB. It must be very hard dealing with the reflux, full respect for continuing to breastfeed.

I tend to think the breast is empty when it feels very soft and floppy, as opposed to having a bit of weight to it. BUT that's my boobs, yours may well feel different

Can't wait to meet up with you in York!

sorkycakey · 04/05/2009 21:59

I don't know if it makes a difference but she's still got a cold and is very fussy at the minute.
She's cried on/off for an hour tonight before finally settling after a little burp and finishing her feed.
The whole saga took 1.5 hours

Perhaps them being ill is having an effect on their feeding, I hadn't thought about it LB, thanks for pointing it out.

I hope tonight is better for you, actually I hope tonight is better for me too . Have emailed you to.

lardybump · 04/05/2009 22:12

Thanks sorky it has been really good to talk about it... I get so stressed sometimes, I am getting pressure from MIL and mum to top up and DP keeps making comments about FF as BF is becoming problematic and he is dropping weight. So I have no support in RL and when he is sick straight after a feed (and we are talking pools of it not a wet burp) I admit to feeling like giving up as well.... But I wont!!!!

I hope we both have better nights as well sorky I am sooooo tired.....

I will look at email now thanks..

sorkycakey · 05/05/2009 08:46

...staggers into the Wagon with a builders brew and plonks down on the sofa....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Baby fine last night, toddler NOT!!

LB I hope you fared better

What's everyone up to today?
We have a day of nothing planned until 6pm tonight when Dd n me are off to get our hairs cut.
She's going to have a proper 'do'

Diege · 05/05/2009 08:47

Morning! Hope you both had better nights LB and SORKY!! Great advice there from Sorky - I had always wondered how you knew when a breast was empty too!
Starting to get into that awful 'what have I done' mood which I always seem to get around now (33 weeks). Worrying that I won't be able to cope etc etc, and also a bit peeved that all the stuff I lent to my sister hasn;t come back, including a blanket that she promised me she would keep safe and return (now it seems to have disappeared). All petty stuff I know, but means I pretty much have to start from scratch! Will keep it simple this time - no designer outfits, just white babygrows until he is 2

Working from home today - loads to do as won't be in office again until tomorrow, then more marking for 2 weeks, then holiday leave! Hairdresser also coming to do my roots which is nice, but always takes half the day up!
Hope everyone is well on this grey and rainy winter spring day

Diege · 05/05/2009 08:48

x-posts Sorky! Seems like it's the day of the haircuts today! Sorry for rubbish night with toddler - the little buggers angels always seem to work it out between themselves who's going to do the waking!

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 08:50

Bleugh!!

Another bad night here. Up at half 2 when he drained a 8oz bottle and he then woke at half 5 so I put him in bed with us. He went back to sleep so he wasn't hungry for that waking. I've tried him with baby rice but he just spits it out. He refuses his dummy now so that is no help.

On a brighter note, I put DS2 in his cot for a nap and he slept for 2 1/2 hours, which is the longest daytime nap he has had in over a week because DS1 couldn't wake him up.

Diege, If possible could you tell me the GF times for him please. He is 4 1/2 months old.

LB, Hope you have had a good night and a good day today.

Hello everyone.

sorkycakey · 05/05/2009 09:00

Morning Diege, have emailed you.

LB I meant to ask last night, when you get let-down, does the milk squirt out quite forcefully?

C'mon Kayz lets plump up the cushions and snooze....

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:03

Yes let's snooze.

Diege · 05/05/2009 09:14

Hi sorky! My e-mail addy has now changed as the merseymail one had been hacked into by someone who hijacked my e-bay account to sell mobile phones . My new one is [email protected]
KAYZ, will look up the GF timings for you asap. I still can't find the original book, but the later one (baby to toddler) may well start off at around 4 months. Will check and let you know . Sounds like the cot naps are going really well though

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:16

I did get it out of the library but silly DH took it back before I read it. Might go get it again.

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:22

Morning all- might have some time to actually catch up now DS is back at nursery and DH is at work today too!!

Ruby is still gaining weight well, she's going to be weighed again tomorrow... she's been a bit constipated recently, but think that may have been becasue she'd not had her vitamins for a week as we'd ran out but the stupid pharmacy didn't give me the right stuff so it was back to SCBU to get a new prescription but that would take a few days to process, so the cons wrote me an instant one while i was at her check at the hospital!! what a nightmare that was!! but she finally pooed this mornign as is fine again!! she'd been really cranky, always moaning, and never wanting to be put down!!

My straighteners came and they are fakes trying to get my money back through paypal!!

I only managed 3hrs sleep last night Ruby wasn't asleep till 1.30am, then woke up again at 3 for a feed, then didn't go back to sleep till 4.30am, then i woke up at 6am with DH!! i'm so tired!!

I have caught up but everything has just vanished from my head!!

Also... who's attending the York meet-up? What time are we meeting? are we meeting in betty's still? or outside? do we need to book a table? shall we have a text circle? I have a few numbers, but i dont know who's attending and who isn't!!

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:27

I'm attending!!! Not sure if you can book a table at Betty's. I've never been, MIL keeps telling me that they might not let me in with the boys[yawn smiley]

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:29

LB & Sorky (& anyone else who's interested too) re- knowing how your breast has been 'emptied' mine is always much much softer, almost hollow feeling compared to how is was before latching and feeding.

LB- dont worry too much on how long DS is feeding, Ruby only feeds for a maximun of 10mins at a time, but my letdown is really fast so she empty's a full breast in that time. If he's not screaming because he's hungry soon after maybe your letdown is the same? I find in the evening Ruby will feed longer and be hungrier more often (usually feeds on and off both sides for around an hour) but this can be normal and is cluster feeding... all 3 of mine have been the same with feeding... as long as they are gaining weight and happy and contented you know they are getting enough from you!!

thirdname · 05/05/2009 09:31

(the title just reminded me that I have some choc brownies, just have to think now where I hid them..)

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:32

Kayz- i was worried we'd not get in with all the prams and babies... i mean its a pretty high class cafe, and some other customers may turn their noses up at us all!! I'm even considering bringing Ruby in her sling so its one pram less... but eating lunch may prove a little difficult!! haha!! have done it before but slopped stuff on her head!! poor girl!!

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:34

I'll have DS2 in the sling and DS1 in the buggy. So then DS1 can walk round York and DS2 can go in the buggy when he gets too heavy.

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:34

thirdname- i try hiding them but somehow DH always finds them first and leaves me searching for days!! haha!!

Shall we have another list?? seeing as we do for everything else!!

ATTENDING YORK- (Sat 23rd May)
Glaskham + DD2.

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:36

ATTENDING YORK- (Sat 23rd May)
Glaskham + DD2.
Kayz + DS's

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:37

I can always ring them to ask about puschairs and if we can book a table if we can pick a time.

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:40

might be worth phoning just to be safe... i mean how many are there of us going roughly? 10 adults? plus DCs?

Kayzr · 05/05/2009 09:42

There is LB, Sorky, Diege, You and me. Not sure about anyone else. I think Nat was thinking about it.

glaskham · 05/05/2009 09:54

oh so its not too bad then if no-one else comes except us... thats only 5 adults... then babies... If i took Ruby in the sling thats one less pram...
