that you can't come to Reading Sorky, but I was a bit when I looked at the map and saw just how far north you really are - you're practically in Scotland!

If it's proving difficult for a few people (Diege, Sorky, Kayz etc) shall we move it a bit further north or do we just accept that some people can't come?

Shame about the weight gain Kayz, you have been doing very well so far though, so perhaps you'll catch up again next week?

LB, when training DD1 I used to change/clean her without a word so there's no attention to be gained. If she mentions it just say 'never mind, try again next time' all matter-of-fact with no fuss. Remind me of this in a month or two when DD2's weeing all over the house won't you!

Moosy · 14/05/2009 19:43

Oops, over did it with the smilies there

Doh

Argh

glaskham · 14/05/2009 20:28

DH said Reading is WAAAAAYYYYYY too far south for us, would take us around 4hrs to get there though I'd be up for an accrington meet with you Nat and Diege... Its not too far for me either... Maccy's is cheap and cheerful and i'm happy to eat anything!!

LB- i think i'll be hanging round in York till around 5ish easily, DH is taking the DC's to Flamingo land and its about 45mins drive away from York so he'll be staying there with them till about 4-5ish and will collect me on his way home. I intend to wander round the shops sights after betty's if people need to start heading home...

lardybump · 14/05/2009 20:52

Thats great glask I thought I would leave at about six then when dd falls asleep in the car it will be her bed time anyway so she wont be up when we get home.....

moos I will try your approach when she next does it. have to say I will be putting her in nappys tomorrow as I have physio and a lot of messing around...

3rd time lucky and you posted 3 times?!? that'd be fine for me... a ponder round the shops would be fab, unless there was anything else you wanted to do? I'm hopeless at finding my way, but as long as i can myself get back to the station for DH to pick me up i'm happy to do anything really!!

lardybump · 14/05/2009 20:58

me too, lets see what takes our fancy on the day!!!

my computer has had a mind of its own all day today....

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 14/05/2009 21:11

Hi all!!

Don't know where to start. Still posting from phone as wireless isn't working on laptop and cable is in dog's room which suprisingly I'm not spending much time in at the moment!

Can't believe DS is only 5 days old. So much seems to happen in a day and it has all been a bit of a rollercoaster tbh. Our little boy is so lovely and I'm also really pleased with how DH and I are working well together and feel like a proper family now.

Today MW did 2nd home visit and was maybe one of lowest points so far. Partly because she did heel prick test and had to do it twice as didn't get a good supply and partly because his weight has gone from 8lb 9oz at birth to 7lb 8oz today. She said that was 3oz more than he should have and - suprise, suprise - mentioned formula top ups. She could see from my face that I wasn't keen so we have compromised on having a bottle of EBM on standby for "if he gets fractious". Thing is that my milk only came in yesterday afternoon so I don't really feel all this fuss is justified as things stand. Have another visit Saturday so am now feeling the pressure of that weight gain where I know some of you have been...

Thanks for all of your comments on the photos on FB. Will try and put some more on soon and will try and catch up properly on here soon too...

glaskham · 14/05/2009 21:18

SES- PLEASE PLEASE DONT GIVE FORMULA OR A BOTTLE UNLESS YOU REALLY REALLY WANT TO!!! dONT WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT HIS WEIGHT GAIN, HE'S LOST JUST OVER A LB, BUT MOST OF THAT WILL BE HIM WORKING SO DAMN HARD TO GET YOUR MILK IN!! hE'LL START TO GAIN NOW YOUR MILK HAS COME IN, BUT HONESTLY DONT GET WORRIED- HE'S NOT GOING TO BE IN ANY DANGER FOR LOOSING THAT INITIAL WEIGHT!! i DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HAVING A BOTTLE OF ebm IS ANY BETTER THAN bf HIM YOURSELF???IT'D JUST MEAN HE'S GETTING IT FROM A BOTTLE, AND YOU WILL HAVE TO EXPRESS TO KEEP YOUR SUPPLY UP.... AFTER WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND BEING WHERE I AM NOW I 100% BELIEVE YOU NEED TO STICK TO YOUR GUNS AND DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, HE'S YOUR SON AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PUT HIM IN DANGER!!

Kayzr · 14/05/2009 21:19

DS2 has put on a pound so 14oz. Stll on 75th centle lne.

The 'eye' key doesn't work on the laptop so hope you all understand me. arghhhh

glaskham · 14/05/2009 21:19

Kayzr · 14/05/2009 21:23

Ses do what glask says. DO NOT GVE A BOTTLE!!! Even expessed bm n a bottle can spol your latch.

glaskham · 14/05/2009 21:27

Yes do what i say!! haha!! Kayz- you make it sound like an order!! though reading back my message i do sound very bossy- maybe i should use caps more often!! haha!! i should also maybe learn to speak in 'caps-way'!!

Anyway... i'm getting tired i'm off to bed with DH!! night ladies!!

Saturday 4th July-sorky,kayz, moosy, GYo
Saturday 11th July-sorky(tricky),kayz, moosy, GYo
Saturday 18th July-sorky, moosy, GYo

Hello- updated the list about Reading... I am flexible since Im only 30mins away by car As Moosy said I'd be happy to do it further north if it would help, but not sure where to suggest...

Ses- sorry to hear you are under the MWs pressure about wt gain. Your MW is crazy to suggest top ups soooo soon after you milks arrived. I know you know all this but do try and stay strong. I know its the most stressful time when an "expert" is telling you to do something that you feel so strongly against. I was v lucky that the MWs never pushed formula but the stress of the weigh ins caused my milk supply to stay low and my let down reflex to go all weird (used to get it AFTER a feed rather than during!). As soon (literally the day after) they took the pressure off by discharging me and I took the pressure off myself, she started gaining properly.

FWIW, I'd say that the biggest thing is make your sure DH is with you on the feeding decisions... My issue was that I was getting increasingly upset and exhausted (feeding for up to 4hrs during the night) that my DH wanted to fix it, and the only way in his eyes was formula... we had many a disagreement about this (not good when your hormones are awry!)- all I needed was cuddles (gentle ones- sore boobs!) and encouragement not an earful, iyswim...
Small giraffe is now 7.5wks and only now just up to her birthwt (expected to be this at 2wks)... and she is a very healthy girl. As long as your instinct is that Owen is fine, go with that...You are doing a fabulous job Ses, keep it up and little Owen will be racing up the charts before you know it.
Take care of yourself. Happy to provide encouragement any time on this- i know how stressful it can be.

Sorky, sorry to hear you cant make Reading.. maybe another time.... LOL about the poo in the non-working loo... not funny but still

Kayz- sorry for the slow week at wt watchers... you've been doing brilliantly and its natural to have weeks when you lose less.. keep at it!

Diege- LOL at wagoners being your birth partners in york!

LB- keep going on the potty training, sounds like DD is getting it !

Hi everyone else...

Kayzr · 15/05/2009 09:02

Morning,

Glask, I'll mooch around shops with you. York is fab for shopping!!

I've got a horrible cold and sore throat. I might spend all day lying on the sofa with lemsip.

Hope you are all ok.

Diege · 15/05/2009 09:15

Morning! Can't belive that mini-Gruff is 7 weeks already! Sounds like you've done a great job there GRUFF, though those night time feeding marathons must have been a bit of a nightmare!
SES, good to hear from you. Am no bf expert, but does sound a bit premature for your mw to be suggesting formula top ups when your milk's only just come in . As GLASK and KAYZ say, this might be one time to take the so-called expert's words with a massive pinch of salt! Is there anyone else (nct contact, bf councellor) you could get 'on side'?
Had a bad night here, awake since 4, worrying about the bean's oblique lie . Just concerned that I'm going to end up with a section - not the end of the world I know, but had been really looking forward to trying an active birth/doula this time! I'm sure at 34 weeks I'm getting ahead of myself, but that's easy to do in the early hours!
Rain here, and I mean RAIN! Mum and dad coming over at mid-day which will be nice, although like SES's mum mine does know how to press the right buttons shall we say!
Hope everyone is ok!

Kayzr · 15/05/2009 09:17

Diege, there is plenty of time to turn mini-Diege. Apparently being on all 4's with your bum stuck in the air can help.

We also have lots of rain.

sorkycakey · 15/05/2009 09:30

Keep feeding him Ses he will regain his weight in good time. It sounds as if you've hit the blues on day 5. It passes in a day or two and you'll pick up a bit. Your supply won't fully establish until about 4-6 weeks so it's best just to feed, feed, feed until then. Let him be your guide rather than impose a routine on him at such an early stage.
Go with your instincts I'd say

Glad to hear you n Dh are working together.

Moosy I'll have to meet you another time.

juleswastink · 15/05/2009 09:43

what is it with hvs and worrying about weight grrr

ses - dont worry atall!!

kay - poor you

me and dh r off to cinema and meal tom

glaskham · 15/05/2009 09:56

Get scrubbing that kitchen floor Diege!!

Kayz- looks like its you, me and LB on for some shopping afterwards so far...

GYo- you sound like a breath of fresh air now you're settled on the gaining weight again!!- its such a good feeling when you know you've done it yourself isn't it!!

Exiting stuff: Had a call from the SCBU nurse that weighed Ruby yesterday... was worried she was gonna tell me her scales were broke and she'd not gained so much or something silly... anyway she was asking me BF advise!!! and also wants me to become a BF supporter for the hospital, mainly for the mums of prem babies!! how cool is that!!??

Got a bit of a busy day ahead, just had my friend (literally) pop in with our passport forms, so need to go to the post office to send them, then i need to go and collect my luna as it came back from M&P yesterday, then get DS from nursery before we go to clarks for a pair of summer shoes for each of the DC's... hoping i can just buy them some doodles or sandals and get out of the shop without spending too much... then i need to go to tesco and see if i can get an airbed from there for the in-laws when they stay over... we plan to sleep on that in the DC's room and they have our room, but FIL has gone and bought a tent and plans to use that ... i dont feel right them being in a tent when we have a perfectly good (if somewhat uncomfy and springy) bed thy can sleep in for a few nights... they think i should have the bed as i'm feeding in the night still, and wont sleep in the kids room... can't really use it downstairs as the cats would pop it like they did the last one... so they bought a tent... FIL also says he's bringing his tools and wants to do some DIY round the house for us... (can you tell DH is hopeless in that way??) but i'm gonna suggest loads of stuff to do so he doesn't have time!!

anyway... can't decide wether to collect my pram now or after lunch and go to clarks from there... decisions decisions....

(think i've spent half an hour typing this between phonecalls and friend coming so i know i'll have x-posted loads)

glaskham · 15/05/2009 10:01
