WFH, you could be right about overfeeding. Will investigate...

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/04/2009 14:27

Orbit has been a bit like this although not as bad, hence me reading that thread, and block feeding seems to help. Also frequent burping, and cranial osteopathy. Good luck!

soon2befamilyof4 · 29/04/2009 14:32

typing with DD2 snuggled in my lap so a bit tricky so please excuse errors.

BB - I too can't stop eating! We visited FIL yesterday and had dinner there. They give out huge portions and I am usually really struggling and often don't finish what I have got and feel way too full after. But yeterday we had dinner, I still felt hungry and we then had birthday cake etc and still not full. We left a couple of hours later and I stopped and had a pasta salad and shortcake buscuit! Then drank loads of chocolate milk! TBH though, I want to get back onto slimming world soon, which should be good as you can eat as much as you like but it means I actually cook proper food and don't eat so much crap. We have eaten a lot of junk over the last few weeks or so.

WIth the feeding. A MW has just been round - much nicer than the last one. She has helped me and explained quite a bit about where I was going wrong and showed me better positioning. Still had a little trouble when she had left but won't really know until the next feed. DD2 has lost about 6-7% of her birth weight - she said they can loose up to 10% but still sounded a bit concerned. Does anybody know what they normal is?

Feeling a bit sorry for DD1. As we have been out of the house most of the time, she hadn't really noticed DD2 being here. But today we are at home and she keeps trying to pull me to take me to x,y or z but I am feeding etc so can't and I have to keep telling her to take DH instead.

I am desperate for a wee but DD2 is soo snuggled in my lap. She is still only in her nappy since she was weighed but is all curled up in my against my bear tummy so skin to skin. Her skin is so dry and this is the first time it has really had a chance to air so will be good for her.

She also still has jaundice. The midwife said to put her in the sun as much as possible, which she is at the moment. With this - does it matter what she is wearing? Ie should she have no clothes on so the sun gets to all her skin or is fully clothed ok? My house isn't the warmest and don't really want to have to put me heating on. It will dry her skin out more if anything.

MW also said I should be waking her for feeds at night, but I am not too sure. She sleeps for 6 hours ish at a go which I love because if we go to bed at 12pm then that means I obviously get to sleep till 6am and even then she sometimes just feeds and goes back down till DD1 wakes up.

Schulte · 29/04/2009 14:35

Quick one - walked to the village and back, then had big lunch in local pub as it's our wedding anniversary today. Now I'm shattered and planning to spend the rest of the afternoon on my bed! Left boob is about to burst though because Hazel wasn't interested in my milk earlier It's really difficult to get her to finish the breast when she's tired. I guess you've all got the same problem though

SOON2BE - think with sun as much skin as possible

If she is jaundice I would wake her in the night and see if she will feed - if she just falls asleep don't worry about it but try and get some down her every three hours - just until she improves but it's up to you!

can you try and reserve one hour each day for dd1 and give dd2 to dh for some snuggle time?

Glad mw was better -

We only have junk in the house so am eating rubbish!

I'm really bored today! Just don't know what to do with myself we've walked been to drs, done 4 loads of washing, tidied up as much as I can with no ceiling and dining room furniture everywhere - just need to run a hoover round -have searched high and low for this damn cream and still can't find it. Want to have a bath but Karahan has been asleep for an hour so is likely to wake up mid-soak!

Schulte · 29/04/2009 15:07

Yay, congratulations Bicnod and welcome little Oscar!

Soon2be, agree with BB, as much skin in the sun as possible I think. I had Hazel in the sun earlier in her pram but then started worrying about her getting a sunburn! Thing is I can't really see whether she's jaundiced or not... MW said a 'tinge', but I find it hard to see. I'd also make sure you feed her every 3 hours during the day - and no I wouldn't wake her up if she goes 6 hours at night! Would be madness

Schulte · 29/04/2009 15:08

Sorry BB didn't mean to suggest you were mad - if the jaundice got really bad then you're right about waking them up in the night.

Schulte · 29/04/2009 15:11

Now, nicknames... we seem to be using the same ones for DD1 and DD2... bit confusing?

BabyBolat · 29/04/2009 15:17

Do babies have nightmares - Kara has been sleeping for an hour and keeps having little jumps and cries during his sleep then settles again!

No worries schultes - am only going by what I have read / heard from others - think you have to do what feels right soon2be x

Soon2be Orbit lost nearly 10% of his birth weight and the hospital were very keen for us to feed every three hours to maintain his blood sugar levels, so maybe (sadly) your MW might be right and you might need to wake her in the night. It won't be for long though, just until her weight starts going up again and the jaundice is past. HTH

Schulte · 29/04/2009 15:48

DD's nickname is Pops / Popsy. I also use lots of German nicknames, which I won't bore you with!

Bf'ing / eating... I seem to currently lose a pound a day, despite eating loads, but may be just water. I still have a long way to go though until I fit back in my pre-pg clothes, as my hips are much wider than they should be and the CS seems to have left some overhang on my belly . Speaking of which, there are remarkably few CS on this thread... where is Puzzle with her stats?

Question to everyone here who's had epidurals / spinal blocks - do you get headaches? I have a mild headache on and off but don't know if it's a side effect of the spinal block or just hormones / tiredness?

BB, Hazel has 'nightmares' too and I bet they are about having the heel prick test done!

Juwesm · 29/04/2009 15:54

Congratulations Bicnod and Oscar!

Soon2be - Hugo lost 16% of birth weight. 10% is their usual cut off point for 'taking action', though what they do seems to vary a fair bit. Have heard of people having to have baby admitted to hosp for a smaller weight loss, but this was due to dehydration. Hugo was clearly well, so we were just advised also to feed every 3 hours as a minimum, and not let him sleep for >3 hrs at a time. Imagine MW being extra cautious cos of jaundice - it may show more clearly in the whites of dd's eyes?

Congrats on anniversary Schulte! How many years?

BB - am sure Hugo has nightmares. They definitely have REM sleep. He does loads of the little startle movements and mewings. Baby dreams must be very odd!

Thank you cards not yet started....

soon2befamilyof4 · 29/04/2009 17:01

Yes it definatly shows in her eyes. Her skin looks a good colour to me (but I don't really know what I am looking for) but the whites of her eyes are not white! That is where we have really noticed it.

Does anybody know what Jandice actually means? As in, what causes it?

bronze · 29/04/2009 17:08

Isaac has slight jaundice noticeable by yellowish whites of his eyes.
Its when theres too much bilerubin (sp?) in the blood

soon2befamilyof4 · 29/04/2009 17:11

OH ok. so why does sunlight help? Sorry, I just don't get it?

Trista, so sorry to hear about your DP leaving. I can only echo what the others have said about him being a daft c**k not knowing which side his bread is buttered on, and also being very adolescent about all this. You are clearly doing a brilliant job of being a mum and at the moment that's a lot more important. I hope he sees sense soon.

Nicknames:
DD Flufflet spottybot (a bit embarrassing now she's 21 tbh LOL!)
DS1 Radish, Radiccio
DS2 Marangus
DS3 Felix Helix (this is Cambridge, after all)
DH His initals (we started this on honeymoon)
Me My initials (ditto)

BoffinMum · 29/04/2009 17:25

Also random child nicknames for generic use:

Schaetzele (Swabian German for 'treasure' - used at nightime while kissing them)
-lein on the end of their names (means 'little' - used when in Germany)
Poppety poppet (anyone under 5)
Poodle noodle flufflet sausage (used while cuddling small people)

BoffinMum · 29/04/2009 17:27

Mw discharged me today. She came at 10.15, babysat Felix until 1 so I could have a sleep, then made me lunch and gave Felix a hand crotched blanket she had made for him.

She is indeed loveliness itself. I will miss her so much.
