Absolutely no point!!

I think they've just all gone into denial tbh!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 11/03/2009 19:35

Well DH got home just as I was doing my last post and said he wanted to talk to me...

He had news that a head hunter contacted him today about a position with an international company that were interested in talking to him about a role that would give him the opportunity to develop into being a director of the company!! I'm a bit sceptical that they're just trying to lure him with no guarantee at the end but if it were to work out, it could mean that I could get away with working just 1 day a week to keep my registration and knowledge up to date and be a SAHM the rest of the time...

I then said I wanted to talk to him and said that the NCT classes had been playing on my mind and that I knew he really did have to work some nights in the next few weeks but I really need him to come to the classes so that he knows what's going on. I said that if he had to miss one, it wouldn't be the end of the world but any more than that and I'd find it v difficult.
He said that he really would try and get to them and would definitely be at the first one next Wednesday and not to worry so much.
I think I'm reasssured...

kayzr · 11/03/2009 19:36

I feel sorry for you all with your silly DH's.

Ses, I think they would be brilliant for him to go to. We didn't get a chance to go because we couldn't get there but we both really wanted to. A friends DH said they were great and he said they really helped him because he doesn't cope well with blood and stuff. So he knew what was likely to happen and what he could do to help.

GYo, I hope DH has texted you by now. Let's hope you don't go into labour tonight.

Football tonight YAY!!!!

kookykid · 11/03/2009 19:39

Ses - sorry to hear about your DH - mine said from very early on that he was unsure about being able to support me at the birth. I was initially upset, but in the end was glad that he'd been honest about it. It wasn't that he didn't want to be there, he just was worried about how he'd cope and that he would let me down. I asked my step-sister, who had 2 DCs and who was really supportive about homebirth, to be my birthing partner. In the event they were BOTH there and both helped me through labour in different ways, and of course DH was there all the way through (apart form a brief time when the midwife sent him away for a nap!) and although he didn't want to go near the "business end" held my hand as DD enetered the world. I think it sounds like you might need a back-up (and maybe DH does too?!). Can't advise about the NCT classes - we did the (rubbish) NHS ones.

Star - I had a wonderful wonderful experience of homebirth with DD and would recommend it to anyone. Having the birthing pool was amazing and being in the water was all the pain relief I needed. If you want to know anything feel free to ask!

LBOT - your GP sounds apalling. I'd def second speaking to the Practice Manager. Is there another one nearby you could change to?

Glask - the photos of Ruby are amazing - she's so sweet and utterly perfect! You're obviously doing brilliantly.

Cosmo/GYO - am sending your babies birthing vibes! Really hope it's not much longer for you both.

I'm sure I've missed people again - sorry!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 11/03/2009 19:55

Wow lots of messages suddenly!

Ses- glad you had the chat and hope you are feeling better about it. Work does sometimes get in the way unfortunately... tricky sometimes. The opportunity sounds exciting especially if you can be a SAHM 4d a week!

Kayz- thanks, DH phoned eventually. I really dont mind him staying out as its quite rare and certainly dont begrudge him a beer with a friend. I just hate when he says will be on a certain train and then doesnt get it or let me know he hasnt...but some people are just like that I suppose.

KK- I didnt know you'd had a HWB with DD1 All I'm hearing at the moment are failed attempts for home births for first timers.
Did you not use any gas and air at all? Any TENS? Please do tell , I need lots of positive stories as Im convinced I will be transfered at the moment.

(Sorry to hijack Star - I know KK was aiming that at you)

GruffaloSoldier · 11/03/2009 20:42

Hi all!

Had my last day at work today, was actually really sad to leave. 5 year old was ok, but 3 year old got upset and wouldn't say goodbye Got a big bunch of flowers and card which was really lovely. Had to say goodbye to all the mums at toddler group and the school who Ive chatted to 4 days a week for 14 months! It feels really strange.

Glad that you sorted out things with DH Ses, FWIW, DH wasn't terribly keen on NCT classes but he really enjoyed them afterall and is glad that we did them.

Gyo - sorry your 'oral methods' didnt work!

Sorry to hear about GP LBox hope it gets sorted soon.

Great to have you back Glask - so glad Ruby is doing so well. She is gorgeous. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Gyo/Cosmo - Fingers crossed full moon does the trick tonight.

Hopefully it wont for me as our heating is playing up I need a couple of weeks to get our floors laid aswell Then baby can come!
Sorry to anyone Ive missed I am so unbelievably tired

GruffaloSoldier · 11/03/2009 21:19

oooh just checked - sorry to disappoint but it is a new moon tonight and full moon on 26th march!

Starshinetiger · 11/03/2009 21:22

Thanks Kooky for your reassurance. Fingers crossed the replacement pool arrives okay tomorrow morning and it works! No need to apologise for hijacking GYo - is good that we can all share on here. FWIW, I did have DS in hospital, but got there already 3-4cm dilated (having just used hot water bottle, paracetamol and movement at home to manage labour pains for about 4 hours) then had gas and air (which helped) and then was in pool for about 1 hour before DS was born - so, basically, nothing I couldn't have done at home, so I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm only worried that I can't be so lucky in labour 2nd time round. Especially as have had another quiet day on movement front today, so thinking I may need to call midwife for reassurance tomorrow.

Glask - gorgeous piccies of Ruby. Sorry to hear about your friend though, that's awful. Think you are right to send a card though.

Gruff - yay for mat leave, am sure you have a while to go - enjoy some relaxation.

LBOT - at your surgery. Second everyone saying you should escalate it to Practice Manager. What on earth is the point in doing tests if they won't give you the results? But, as someone said, am sure that it means all is fine, or they would have contacted you.

Ses - glad you have spoken to DH about classes. Sounds like if he has a positive experience at the first one, you'll be okay. If you do go with an alternative birth partner at our hospital, you're allowed up to 2 people with you when you give birth, so you should still be able to have DH there.

Right, was going to have a bath tonight, but think I've run out of time for that. Just clean our bathroom and then an early night for me I think. Night all!

Cosmogirl · 12/03/2009 07:38

Morning,

Gruff - thanks for moon info! So, 26th March then...ok that is nearer due date so perhaps will work its magic then...
Nothing last night except a few crampy pains here and there. Quite glad really because my parents are coming today to see me and take me for lunch and haven't seen them since early Jan.

Hope everyone managed some sleep. I'm not sure why I am up this early but there you go....

Cosmogirl · 12/03/2009 07:45

Ok I'm hoping the TMI rule still stands and no one is put off their breakfast but I am leaking flourescent yellow liquid from my boobies this morning! Have been leaking since 24 weeks but this bright yellow stuff (colostrum?) is brighter than ever! Sign of impending labour perhaps or am I reaching -again...?

kayzr · 12/03/2009 08:06

Morning,

Thats really wierd Gruff, if you click on the MN moon it says "The moon reached full moon at 02:38 on Wednesday 11 March." But here it says it was a new moon on the 11th. Is the MN moon broken again??? Silly moon!!

DS2 slept from 22:45 until 6:35. It was bliss!! But expecting it to be a fluke.

I nearly died last night, the Arsenal match went to penalties. I just could not watch at all. Luckily we won but it was nerve wracking!!

tinkislittlemissshopping · 12/03/2009 09:22

i am feeling great about implant just have plaster on arm still abit sore just cant lift heavy things with that arm
lbot drs what a pain

Diege · 12/03/2009 09:40

Morning! Working from home today, but have builders buzzing around doing the new bathroom so not ideal! Have just read through, but am so fuzzy-minded this morning that I'm forgetting what post belongs to which wagoner!
KAYZ, sorry to hear about your friend I agree that a card would be a nice gesture.

Not wanting to lump men all together, but it does seem that a lot of ours have similar hang-ups about birth prep etc . My dh sees any prep as a distraction from 'jobs' he needs to do round the house. I agreed to drop the doula thing if he put his mind to it to read up about active birth, and we had a few words last week (to say the least) about the whole thing. I think he sees birth in the same way as having a tooth out, and that lying on my back with an epidurtal worked the other 3 times, so why bother to change?? Think I'm slowly getting there, but he just doesn't 'get' it
FWIW SES I don't think you're making a big deal about the classes and dh at all - think it's important for them to realise it's a whole mind set, and not another thing that gets in the way of work etc. Oh and great news about poss job changes . Would you have the flexibility to increase hours if you wanted though? (not that you would of course, but I know for me going from full time to 4 days a week, with one 'mummy day' was a big shock to the system!).
LBOX, very cross indeed for you about bloods . Agree this needs following up, and would personally think about complaining to PCT manager if they don't get their act together. Your receptionist sounds charming .
Other news, pram has arrived, though still in box. Excellent service from M&P I should say! Oh and looking at new nursery tomorrow for dd3 and new baby. We've been happy at the one we're at for the past 7 years, but they've started a new policy whereby you can't leave buggies/prams/bike seats at the nursery, and as a non-driver these leaves me in a tight spot. Really cross as doesn't really fit with ethos of cutting down on car use/ encouraging exercise etc. New nursery is 2 mins from house though, and has places, so quite excited about the possible change!
Hope everyone is well, and I'll try and pop in later x

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/03/2009 09:41

Morning All

Hurray Gruff for finally becoming a lady of leisure. Glad you got a good send off too Hope you are going to sit on you bum all day and relax!

Kayz- great sleeping for DS2, hope it stays and isnt a fluke!

Cosmo- fingers crossed the colostrum is a sign! But even if its 26th as per Gruff's moon post thats not so bad, still early baby!

Star- your first birth sounds fab, definately no reason why it shouldnt be as good second time around. Has the new pool arrived yet?

Morning everyone else

We managed another evening of labour induction attempts of all sorts The result was a massive run of violent Braxton Hicks- only I didnt realise that this weird rock hard changing shaped bump was actually a BH! I though mini GYo had turned transverse as I had head shaped lumps everywhere!! Then it relaxed back to a normal bump. I had these every 4 mins for about 1hr and was very uncomfy but not sore.

Has to be moving in the right direction ever the optimist. But I reckon we have a least another week to wait now...

Morning everyone!

Kayz that is weird re: the moon. I didnt even know there was an MN moon. Im going to investigate. The website I looked at was all about the lunar calendar etc.

GYo/Cosmo - those signs sound very promising!

Hooray for working at home Diege - not for noisy builders though!

Hello to anyone I've missed Star/Tink

Well Im on my first day of maternity leave, my DH is here as he is on a late shift today. I am going to have lunch at my friends house this afeternoon, she has a lovely 3 month old. Going to pop into town with DH too this morning

GruffaloSoldier · 12/03/2009 10:18

re:moon there seem to be some websites that say 11th some say 26th. too confused!!!

glaskham · 12/03/2009 10:23

How odd Gruff- i should be 35weeks tomorrow... instead i have a teeny tiny princess who is 3 weeks old tomorrow!!

DH reminded me last night that a few days before my waters went i'd said to him that it was strange the amount of us on the thread but yet no-one had gone earlier than term yet, and then i delivered prem!!- glad the rest of you are managing to hold them in though- i wouldn't wish the stress and worry I had on anyone!!

Tink- what made you decide to go for the implant? I'm hoping to be sterilised, have spoken to MW and will speak to GP but i dont want to risk another pregnancy now... if i could have another baby without the pregnancy then i'd consider it, but i'm never risking having the last 7.5mths again!!

LBOT- thats awful about your GP- i'd be fuming if it were me!!

Morning everyone else...

Ruby was pretty well behaved last night, she was up 4 times in total but I know she's supposed to feed more often than an average newborn because her stomach is smaller, so it can't hold as much as say a 8lb baby can... can't wait till she's a bit bigger though then i can get a bit more sleep!! the last 3 weeks are starting to catch up on me now, i had nearly a week of no sleep once my waters had gone then i was doing expressing in the night after then... And yesterday I intended to get a nap, watched something i'd sky+'d and then both girls started waking up!! I am going to get a nap today when they get theirs!!

idreamofbeanie · 12/03/2009 11:32

Just updating as I have finally reached 11 weeks today. I probably won't be around much for the next week or so as I am driving myself crazy worrying about the fact I have now lost all my pregnancy symptoms and just becoming a moan. I am going to just try to put everything out of my mind until the scan and try not to think/worry about the bean. I will keep an eye out for any birth announcements though. Keep your fingers crossed for me on the 23rd!

Is it ok if I kill DH????

He was meant to be at the job centre on Tuesday but forgot. He rang them and went today. They have stopped his money for that day and have restarted the claim from yesterday. But he needs to go back in tomorrow morning and we were meant to be going to York. But to be able to go to York afterwards means it will cost £25.40 as we will have to get the bus to Malton which is £5.50 return each and then Malton to York return is £7.20 return each.

I suppose in his defence he was at hospital Monday and Tuesday for ECG's and to have a heart monitor fitted which he had to take back on Tuesday.
