The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nitnat84 · 22/02/2009 15:46

All going south- sorry to hear your news.

mummyhill · 22/02/2009 16:54

I don't know whats happening about seeing endo, no one has mentioned it yet except the gp when she did the referral to the hospital for the obstetrics care! I am supposedly high risk too and seem to be being left in limbo a bit. Hopefully will find out more on the 4th when I go the hospital for bloods and scan!

webster215 · 22/02/2009 18:43

Hi everyone!
What is everybodys 12 week scan is it just a dating or a Nuchal? I have to go private for mine as im staying at my parents, and have booked my scan (dating) for wed and not sure if ive booked the right one!
Ive looked all over the net, but it seems to be different in diff areas, just interested to know what everbody else is having!

Snowfalls108 · 22/02/2009 19:19

My dating scan is at 12 weeks, and then I have the nuchal a couple of weeks later. But I think it varies depending on where you are.

mummyhill · 22/02/2009 20:04

We don't get a nuchal scan as routine here. So usually just a 12 week dating and 20 week anomaly unless you have complications.

bobber · 22/02/2009 20:53

webster - I get a nuchal scan in Herts instead of a dating scan on the nhs because of my age. I've got mine tomorrow when I'll be 12weeks 1day.

I have to admit I am slightly less frantic now than I was about not having seen anyone (except my midwife)yet about me being 'high risk'. I think it was since I heard the heartbeat at home & feel more reassured. Bit daft really because there could be all sorts of probs going on while the heartbeat is merrily pumping away. I think I'll feel better tomorrow, if they tell me anything at the scan of course - full results arent meant to come back for 7 -10 days though . Im going to ask for the nuchal measurement & if theres a nasalbone at the scan - they must be able to answer that surely??

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2009 21:55

I have my dating scan (hopefully) on Thursday - we need to rearrange the time.
bobber, good luck for tomorrow. Hope they can answer some questions then and there.

mummyhill · 23/02/2009 12:04

Just got back from GP have had thyroxine increased by 25mcg so now on 175mcg/day. Got to go back and have another blood test in 3 weeks time. So that's 2 lot bloods taken for thyroid so far, will have all my booking bloods done on 4th march then another thyroid test on the 17th yup I am turning into a pin cushion!!!!!

ladylush · 23/02/2009 14:07

Webster - I live in Greater London and they don't do dating scans here - they do nuchal at 11-14 weeks and anomaly scans at 20 weeks.

Stayfrosty - I agree with you. It is shocking, though it wasn't the dr I usually see and maybe she didn't think about the implications wrt my thyroid problem. I will ask the endo on thursday what kind of care package they offer for pg women. I doubt it will be as good as yours though. I have a feeling it will be restricted to bloods and review of meds each trimester.

Bobber - I ordered the dopplers from A.D. I've ordered from them before and the delivery is usually fairly prompt. I think given the scares I've been having they are a must!

I had more fresh red bleeding last night and pad soaked this morning But scanned today and all well with baby. One day at a time - hope I will be able to relax at some point in this pg.

bobber · 23/02/2009 15:21

ladylush - how stressful for you. Yes,that doppler will be able to give you daily reassurance. Think I got mine the following day!

My nuchal went really well - I feel so relieved. The fold is 1.4mm & there's a nasal bone, so its looking very positive. They did warn me that the bloods may still reveal something, but considering my age I feel far more hopeful. And am finally going to see consultant on Monday! So am very happy.

pooka · 23/02/2009 15:59

So sorry allgoingsouth.

Tomorrow is the big day of the nuchal - feeling rather unsure about it. Rather pretending that I'm not pregnant in case. Just want it done!

Am, by my haphazard dates, 12+3 today. Had lovely booking in with midwife - had already been flagged up as potential homebirther. Also am seeing a consultant at 16 weeks instead of midwife because she has an expertise in "continence" and my pelvic floor doesn't seem as... hmm... efficient as it once was. Had great halfterm holiday in cornwall and kept having to slip behind rocks for a pee. Hopefully the yoga (starting at end of march) will help with that as well.

I am also leaking colostrum. Feel a bit leaky in all respects at the moment. Not particularly dignified.

So will have 16 wk appointment. Then 20 week scan. Then 22 week midwife and then transfer to my GP midwife. 28 weeks anti-d and bloods (if I go down that route). Am classed as a multigravida and so have had a few appointments crossed off because of my "experience".

pooka · 23/02/2009 16:03

For my 2 previous pregnancies, the nuchal was just a scan and no bloods, so the blood test and scan combined result is new to me. I think that we actually get the full story tomorrow after the scan - i.e. they process the blood while I have the scan and then chat about both results.

I hope.

Feel like have waited for ages - which is the crappy by-product of knowing too soon IMO. In my dreams I would find out at 11 weeks pregnant, having missed almost the whole of the first trimester.

mummyhill · 23/02/2009 16:38

Good luck tomorrow Pooka

bigbang · 23/02/2009 16:54

So sorry to read your news allgoingsouth. All the best x

Pooka you are having your nuchal at Kings? If so you have it right, they give you the full results then and there. We had to wait around a bit with ds for the blood results to come back but its worth it to get your results straight away. I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow and you can relax and enjoy being pg. My scan is on Friday, not looking forward to keeping ds entertained in the hospital for two hours around lunch time, he normally sleeps then!

Bobber I'm glad your feeling happier and that all was well with your scan and Tigerfeet, great news that your dp is improving.

Webster I am only having a nuchal scan because that is what is offered here, I am quite young so I don't think I would pay for one if I wasn't offered it. I wouldn't worry about which one you were having unless you have particular concerns. I hope it goes well.

Not much improvement with the tiredness here yet but I am not feeling as sick which is nice! 11 weeks today Roll on friday.

detoxdiva · 23/02/2009 17:08

Bobber - great news about your scan - am sure the bloods will be fine. I am waiting for Mr Salvesen to call tonight with our final nuchal risk results. Also was at the Lister today for booking in appointment with the hops - even though I want a home birth! All well, so don't have to go back now until 20 week scan which is 28th April.

On a less positive note - dd has chickenpox!! As I've had it there's no need to worry.

pooka · 23/02/2009 17:10

Not at Kings, but the same team (and set up) at the Fetal Medicine Centre. When first pregnant I wanted to make sure that could pre-book early for a day and time when dh could come and that would fit in with ds/dd at school/childminder.

Plenty of books, snacks and stuff should help keep your ds amused. I think, if I recall correctly, that at Kings (if that's where you're going) they have a pretty good children's play area and canteen. But was a longish time ago.....

bigbang · 23/02/2009 17:42

Ahh i see! I will take many 'activities' but as he will want to be sleeping gawd knows what's going to happen! Dp will be there so will send the two off them off for a walk if it gets too much. We have been back and forth to that hospital for appointments since ds was born (he has several ishoos) and I never knew it has a play area. Feel like a nonce now!

Snowfalls108 · 23/02/2009 17:43

I'm feeling pretty well looked after so far. So good reports here for the Chelsea and Westminster.
Had my booking in appointment on 2nd Feb with MW. Saw consultant on 17th (was out of country for a week beforehand), then had blood tests on 18th and 19th (not ideal but at least I know they're thinking!). I've got my dating scan on the 2 March, and then my next appointment with the consultant on the 10th and then another appointment with the MW on the 16th! Feel like I'm living at the hospital!

lemonmoon · 23/02/2009 17:52

sorry to hear your news allgoingsouth.

top result bobber

I'm glad they give the full result at Kings. Not sure I could make it through the weekend sane if they didn't - my scan is on a Friday afternoon. Feel the same as you pooka, in that I'm too scared to properly think about being pregnant until it's done. Although I'm posting on MN so I'm doing some kind of weird sleight of mind obviously...

My local forum tells me that you can wait a long time to be seen at Kings if they get a lot of referrals during the day, but they never tell you to go away and come back - they just keep going until they've done their scans for the day.

I went out at the weekend for the first big night out since finding out - it's so weird watching people get drunk. I was just impressed that I stayed up past 11pm.

pooka · 23/02/2009 18:06

Am wondering whether I dreamt the play area? Might have. Haven't been there with children so could all be a figment of my imagination......

blue76 · 23/02/2009 18:15

hey folks, i hope i'm ok to join this thread. I'm 32 and 9+3. Due 25th sept. Ive got dating scan 5th march. I had what I thought was a heavy bleed at 5 weeks and then had a lot of brown discharge (sorry if TMI) for 2 weeks. I had a scan at 6 weeks which showed a strong little heartbeat. Already have 2 dds (11 and 9 yrs). I'm sure I didn't have this many 'symptoms' with them...must be cos I'm older now and fretting about risks. Haven't had any sickness, only nausea late a night. Already starting to feel bloated and can't stop eating! Oh and if anyone wants a cure for morning sickness, try tonic water! I'm sure that's why I haven't actually thrown up yet! It contains quinine which is supposed to relieve nausea.

bigbang · 23/02/2009 18:16

Will send dp and ds to investigate and see if they can find a play area then!

Lemonmoon we went straight in to be seen at both scans with ds despite a full waiting room... I think it was because we agreed to do the research study they had going on but may have misjudged it completely. My scan letter informed me that the same study is still running so will be doing it again if they want me again iykwim.

ladylush · 23/02/2009 19:38

Good luck with your scan Pooka.
Great news Bobber - also good that you're going to see consultant on Monday. You must be feeling relieved now

ladylush · 23/02/2009 19:40

I still have no nuchal date because I've been referred to a hospital that doesn't like taking out of borough patients. They haven't turned me down yet though, so I can't be referred to the other nearer one either. Only have a 3 week window now because I am 10+5

TigerFeet · 23/02/2009 20:37

Nuchal scans aren't offered routinely here, my 12 week scan will be a plain old dating scan. I'm classed as multigravida too, I have:
scan/mw at the hospital at 12 weeks
mw @ GP @ 16 weeks
scan/cons @ hospital @ 20 weeks
mw @ GP @ 28, 32, 35, 38 & 41 weeks.

Hardly anything at all, which suits me tbh. I remember spending a lot of time sat in waiting rooms whilst pregnant with dd.

I am starting to consider a homebirth, dh was really against the idea with dd but I had a straightforward birth and when I mentioned it last week he didn't dismiss the idea out of hand. It would be logistically quite difficult but I am going to give it some serious thought.
