yes merry christmas from me too!! hope everyone has fun and can get some down time.

Ginni · 23/12/2008 22:38

lots of fluid loss but still no ruddy contractions!!! Off to bed now then hospital first thing, think I will go along with being induced as i'm looking forward to meeting my daughter so much, and it will be nice to enjoy a guilt free drink (although maybe I won't even feel like it!), and also not to be pregnant.

Not sure i'll get chance to log on before we head off tomorrow, so hopefully the next time I log on I'll have babe in arms!

good luck ginni

as a first timer o just gave birth, i'd say for sure that contractions feel like period pains... albeit very strong ones. i found the best position for me, as i was at home, was on the floor, on my knees with them spread apart and i breathed in deeply and out with an 'om', sort of like a cow sound... and loud but calm. then in between, i leaned forward, head buried in a pile of pillows and breathed light, shallow breaths to conserve energy for the next one. also i had DH toss the king size duvet over me so i was in a cocoon. when it was time to push, i rolled to my left side and pushed through contractions with right foot on MW shoulder and continued with the same breathing. in the final stages, i turned over to my back with my head up and i pulled my knees towards my chest and spread them apart... this is where yoga came in handy. the 'urge' to push is awesome and although you think it is going to hurt when the baby's head comes out but not really... it is a relief though. hope that helps other first timers.

i am going crazy though. been snowed in for almost two weeks and we are expecting more snow! managed to get out for a bit yesterday but because we don't get this kind of weather normally, i don't have the proper accoutrements for a canadian winter. i grew i northern ontario but i moved to vancouver island because i was tired of the snow and the -30C temperature... although its not quite that cold, only -8C today, but that feels very cold to me now. (that's not a sad face but a 'i'm freezing my ass off) face.

well, it will certainly be a white xmas... but i didn't manage to get a single present bought, what with little turnip coming early and the snow. oh well. ce la vie.

happy holidays everyone and hope there won't be too uch excitement... as in babies popping out everywhere...

LenniEd · 24/12/2008 09:02

Merry Christmas from me too - think this will be last chance I get to have a proper read.

Good luck Ginni, hope it all goes well.

And good luck everyone else for the next few days, lets hope we don't have too many Marys and Jospehs!!

I've got to cross my legs until 3rd Jan now as xmas is swiftly followed by DD's birthday, DD's birthday treat and then PIL away for a few days so no easy childcare. Wish me luck!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 24/12/2008 10:00

Good morning, and a very merry christmas eve to everyone

Rrray, the best thing for swelling (believe it or not) is drinking plenty, the more water you drink the better the swelling gets, and of course as much rest as possible. I have been swollen up for the last couple of months, I had pre-eclampsia with DS2 so they've kept a close eye on it, the only time it got any better was while I was in hospital for 4 days, not getting out of bed and with IV fluids, it didn't completely go but it did get a lot better, obviously this wouldn't normally be possible at home but you can help it by drinking as much as poss and resting. Keep an eye on any headaches, any vision problems, any problems going for a wee (i.e. unable to go), any pain in the top of your bump/under your ribs, and any chance you get to have your BP/urine checked get it done (though don't bother going to a chemist or anything like that, they use automatic BP machines which are known to give unreliable results in pre-eclamptic women) The swelling on it's own isn't a major concern at all, it could be a sign of low iron levels, so watch out for being unusually tired (who isn't at 9 months pregnant?!) but just being so heavily pregnant can easily cause a lot of swelling. Don't wait to get all of the above symptoms, if you only have one of them get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Ginni, hope things have gotten/will get moving for you soon, the waiting must be driving you crazy!

Thanks for everyone's good wishes DH is taking the boy's to MIL's so we can go to the scan in peace, if all is well we are going to kick off christmas with a bang, everything we've done to prepare for it has just been on auto pilot, but it is time to concentrate properly on it, and make it into something more than we have been doing.

So, I might get chance later to update re. the scan but again if not, have a lovely next few days everyone, and hopefully the next time I'm on post xmas will be with a birth announcement! Look forward to all of your news as well, I am sure there will be more baby news before I get back!

moosemama · 24/12/2008 10:46

Morning all

DH slept downstairs last night apparently to let me get some quality sleep, but, the boys were up 4 times in the night for various reasons and being downstairs he slept through them! I did go and wake him up to deal with them but it took me ages to get back to sleep afterwards each time so still no flippin sleep to speak of!

He was already in the doghouse after spending a considerable amount of time last night trying to convince my bump that a good delivery day would be Christmas Day! I gave both him and bump a stern talking to on that subject and told them both absolutely no babies are allowed to be born in this house until after New Year!

Am sat up in bed on laptop trying to summon the courage to get up and start the housework. Haven't wrapped DH's presents yet and boys want to do it with me . Midwife coming at 3 for homebirth meeting, whole house a mess - again, boys bedroom needs a major overhaul or santa will walk in and walk out again, still got a tonne of wrapping to get finished and both boys need to have their fringes cut before going to visit Nanny and the rest of DH's family tonight or I will never hear the end of how they look like girls and can't possibly see where they are going! (I of course think they look gorgeous and have had lots of comments about how people love their hair - although to be honest not usually from the Nanny and Great Aunt generation though!)

DH went to Tesco at 10 last night and said it was like a Saturday afternoon only worse. Apparently the shelves were practically stripped bare with pretty much only broken toys or open packets left and almost no fruit and veg on the shelves at all. He was halfway through complaining about me sending him when I pointed out that I didn't actually send him, he had wanted to go and I didn't really need him to get anything as has already had the shopping delivered!

I think it did him the world of good actually, he admitted it had made him realise that he'd never really noticed how easy I make Christmas for him before as he never has to go Christmas shopping for food or presents and I usually do all the wrapping as well. All he usually has to do is go up in the loft and get the decorations down!

Oh well, coffee finished so can't really procrastinate any longer, I suppose the sooner I start, the sooner I'll finish!

Will hopefully pop back on a bit later to see if there is any news, but if not here's wishing everyone a peaceful, restful Christmas!

Merry Christmas!! Hope everyone has a lovely relaxing Christmas Day!

treedelivery · 26/12/2008 00:35

Merry Christmas all!

Wonder if any babies arrived on 25th?

Had totally exhausting day, DD1 enjoyed it although got a bit 'overcooked' and nearly cried a few times. Pulled off breakfast lunch and snacks with only backache to complain of so pleased with myself.

Spending MIL Christmas pressi ££ on b/f bra's from mothercare online [nearest one 40 mile - so they better fit]. Just ordered as quite cheap in sale.

2 whole days off before my last shift so feeling good.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 26/12/2008 08:27

Morning everyone

Ginni, hope there is a huge congrats in order by now! Can't wait for the news, you kept popping into my head yesterday!

GTDACP (and everyone else still poorly), hope you are feeling a bit better by now, there are so many shitty things going around at the moment

Treedelivery, enjoy your two days off

Hope everyone had a lovely christmas'? We had a lovely day, the boy's loved it, DH did a gorgeous christmas dinner with all the trimmings, it was beautiful

Well today is the day... 12 hours time the induction will have been started, 24 hours time it is very very likely to all be over, I don't know if I am more excited to meet him and finally not be pregnant anymore, or more scared incase he isn't very well, only one way to find out I guess!

I don't know when I'll be back on properly, I will hopefully get a bed with internet access, and I'll be in touch with some MNer's via text so any news from me will be floating round somewhere I expect if anyone can be bothered to go look for it!

And just incase, happy new year everyone! Good luck to everyone who is going to be having their babies before I get back. And I hope all the poorly ones are on the mend. Take care everyone xxx

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 26/12/2008 09:20

morning

good luck nat

glad u had a great day we did 2

Spink · 26/12/2008 11:36

natalieJane will be thinking of you and wishing you all very very well.

Anyone got any baby news??

We had a lovely if slightly manic Christmas - had dh's family here and tho they wanted to help it was difficult to sit down and be looked after because they are not very hands on kind of people, and very polite so won't just jump in! and I was the only one who knew where things were.. and of course ds was so excited and full of energy. It has been amazing to see him 'get' christmas and be so loving it
I've had steadily increasing periody pains over the last 3 days, think I might take some paracetemol in a bit. last labour started with waters breaking so a definite sign - not sure what to think about this, might just be late pg aches and pains, mightn't it? On Xmas eve morning went into hosp for some monitoring as baby had not moved for nearly 24hrs (everything was fine!), and the monitor showed up mild contractions - would those just be BHs?
As you can see, I'm having an 'am I-aren't I' kind of a moment anyone else in the same boat? Treedelivery - you were having some aches?

Periwink · 26/12/2008 11:40

Just checking to see if anyone had christmas babies????

natalieJAne - hope all goes well with the induction!

Hope those that are sick with cold get better asap - we do not want to be birthing filled with a stinking cold!

qumps · 26/12/2008 12:35

hope everyone had a lovely christmas.
nataliejane best of luck with it all. completely understand your anxiety. the relief to hold stanley in my arms and know everything seems ok is unreal. i am much more protetive of him than i was of ds1 and can't really bring myself to let many people hold him.
however he is feeding nearly every hour, especially at night. nips in all sorts of trouble! dh being brilliant though. had a great christmas and thoroughly spoilt. ds1 was so cute but only opened half his presents so far. had a hormonal meltdown last night and have been promised tea and massages on tap.
any christmas day babies?
off to hurt the credit card....

MsSparkle · 26/12/2008 14:09

Hello everyone, it feels like ages since i posted. My mother has been struck down with a very severe case of Pneumonia and has been on a ventilator since Saturday. I have been feeling very stressed and worried all week and visiting the hospital everyday.

No baby yet although i am suprised that it hasn't arrived with all the worry. I am 39 weeks now and my due date is on Wednesday. Hopefully my mother will be on the road to recovery by then, although all week she hasn't got any worse nor any better either. It's just one big waiting game.

Congrats to those of you who have had their babies. Lets hope a few more pop out soon

LenniEd · 26/12/2008 14:13

I'm just on to wish NJ good luck for this evening. Nothing much to report here so don't think I'll be joining you

Spink - sounds familiar from what I had a couple of weeks ago. Think I am still getting period type pains most nights, but no sign of any activity (thank goodness - DD's bday on Sunday) so think it might just be late pregnancy niggles for me - let's hope (??) it's for you. I am far far more niggly this time. Loads of BH and backache and cramping. Doesn't help with my back that I'm lugging a toddler round.

DD managed two presents yesterday and then was too engrosed with the Little Tykes car we bought her to open anything else. She kept sitting in it all day saying "Santa brought this!" How cute!! GPs a bit disappointed that she wasn't ripping the paper off their presents excitedly, but when you are not yet 2 it seems a plastic car and a teddy dog is enough for one day! (Teddy spent day riding around in the car next to her) She had a toy kitchen from PIL which has proved a massive hit, but is a bit of an eyesore in the living room

Took me until 5pm to cook the xmas dinner! Might have to work on my timing a bit for next time. DD stayed up til 9pm though so had plenty of digestion time! And DH had all but worked off his dinner with pushing her round the living room in her car

Hope everyone else had lovely days too and you are all relaxing today.
