It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

Someone on here may be psychic (sp??) as they put me down as having a girl! We went for our scan, but weren't able to see the sex - so it's a surprise for us! Though I'd like to have a girl!

Ds turned 6 on Friday and had his birthday party on Sunday. Yesterday we tidied up his room (to make room for all the Christmas and birhtday pressies he got) and also took the baby stuff out of the cubby hole in his room. He's now very excited about being a big brother 'I can't wait!!!' So he and I will have hours of fun going through it all!

I went to a baby shop on Sat when DS was at a party - the shop only had 2 prams to show me!!!??? Plus a load of catalogues. It was a beautiful baby boutique, but they really are selling themselves short - 2 prams!

HtheH - I went to Bansko, Bulgaria, and the village/town is situated about 940m above sea level with the ski runs 1100-2560m above sea level. The highest I would have been would be 1100m at the 2nd ski station where I watched my son ski. The altitude did make me slightly tired and out of breath - but remember there are plenty of local ladies who have babies at these heights! Take things easier! And enjoy those massages!!!!

Grumpy - Oh yes I can sympathise with the fango nerve that makes you go 'Oh!' aloud!! This baby feels very low indeed, and a lot of my movement feels close to my cervix which is very sensitive! I am now finding it hard to bend over to pick things up, and yes I too have developed a waddle - especially later on in the day as I get more tired. I hate having to get up from the sofa, as the aches I have are embarrassing!!! It takes me a while to straighten up and to walk properly - God I'm only 5 months gone! What will I be like later on!!!! Also beginning to get the olde niggles of SPD again, and itchy legs at night - yes bananas do help - they regulate the potassium levels in your blood - too low and you get cramps and irritation!

I've an appointment on Mon to see the anaesthetist. I've requested an epidural, so I guess he/she needs to access me. Also because of my history of prolapsed neck discs, I need to be accessed in case an ecs ever happens and I need to be anaesthetised quickly.

Then in Feb I've to see the cardiologist because of my history of palpatations!!

Welcome all the new members of this thread!

Hello all!
Am struggling to keep up with all this chatter! Keep getting distracted before I've read to the end of the thread and not getting a chance to post.

Congratulations to all of you who've had scans recently. Are we all scanned now?

And welcome to all the new May mums.

I've just realised I haven't added what we're having (a girl) to the list so have done it below.

I am 24 weeks today so baby is officially viable. I know there's a long way to go but I can't help feeling increibly relieved. Hopefully we'll be able to relax a bit now. Everything has been fine since the scare we had just before NYE.

See you all later! x

Delighted- I had an elective c-section last time, and i echo fikelly's views. First day after was very painful (think it was because the big painkilling pessary had worn off) but i didn't feel the need to use anything stronger than codine and paracetemol. You do have to take things slowly though- I overdid it once pushing the pushchair and had a painful scar for a few days, and got the odd sharp pain if stretching or bending too much.

I would recommend it, although I have never wanted a home birth (too much mess and not enough drugs!).

I am a bit of a strange case though since I spent longer in hospital after my "natural" delivery (and I discharged myself early) than after my csection. And recovery was quicker too all in all. I felt well enough to drive after 3-4 weeks although waited 6 weeks (I think you can see your GP and they can give you a note for your car insurers to confirm you are well enough to drive if you feel ready to drive sooner).

Back from the scan and happy to report all is well. Nothing obvious wrong with the baby. It was being very lazy though and we even saw it yawn! So relieved. So now feeling brave enough to add myself to the list. DH and I will tell our children this weekend about the baby too, so excited about that.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback Fi and Pula. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the consultant says. Although suspect it'll be along the lines of 'pull yourself together, you've done it before!'. Which may be true but is not helpful at the moment!

pula - I've also never fancied a home birth before (mainly because of the mess - I fear for my lovely carpet! - and what do I do with the other two DC's??) . However, recently I've had a couple of friends having babies who have almost had them in the car (two friends, both got to hosp and delivered within about 5 mins) and another one who almost had it in the back of an ambulance (again delivered 5 mins through hosp doors). BTW these have all been 2nd or subsequent babies, not first ones in case anyone is scared!
Anyway the point of this rambling on is that I think if I were to do that, and have a horrible time screaming in the back of the car in rush hour traffic jam with my bum in the air (as my friend did last week), I'd rather just give up on the going to hospital and stay at home with some dignity! And deliver on the bathroom floor or something.

Anyway, we shall see. Maybe it'll be breech........and I'll be offered a section? (one of my friends has dreamt that it was breech and I had a section, although she also dreamt it was a girl. So wrong there - although she doesn't know it yet!) No-one in RL knows the sex, just me and DH who amazingly has kept his mouth shut about it (so far anyway).
Right will shut up now and go and find something to eat.
Byeeeeee

delightedoldbag34 · 13/01/2009 13:01

Just read that post back and the bit about my friend almost delivering in the car sounds v. scary.......sorry! To clarify, I think at the time it was fairly bad, but now in retrospect she says if she were to have another she'd want to do it the same way as it was so quick and actually not that bad (in comparison to her long first labour in hosp with epidural in, forceps delivery, etc ). Sorry if that has freaked anyone out. She says she'd do it all again tomorrow......(although that might just be her hormones )

joyfuleyes · 13/01/2009 13:11

Cece, congratulations on the scan!

My big scan is on Friday (21 weeks), I'm praying all is well & hoping that if it is we'll be able to tell the children pretty soon too. How much movement are you feeling? I seem to have a lot at bedtime but baby is quiet through the day.

LoobyLou36 · 13/01/2009 13:19

I'm back from the consultant. Got to hear baby's heartbeat again - bliss!
But I've got glucose in my wee and they want to monitor it so it's back to the midwife in 2 weeks then back to consultant in 4 weeks to assess the growth of the baby (cos of the pills I take to control high BP) the good news is I get another scan in 4 weeks too so I get to see baby again.

FiKelly · 13/01/2009 13:21

yay cece on your scan

delighted don't worry you didn't freak me out... i also know someone who nearly delivered DD#2 in the car... and made it to the hospital with 5mins to spare. Must be more common than we think 2nd time around!

My hospital offers 3 courses to go on: Parenting Classes, Relaxation Class and Breastfeeding workshop. Does anyone have any experience of these sort of classes?
I am def doing the Relaxation & Breastfeeding ones but am not sure about Parenting Classes - what do you think this involves? My DH is not keen he seems to think this is for thick people who don't know what end to wipe and what to feed

As a nervous first timer I want to get everything right

FiKelly · 13/01/2009 13:25

joyfuleyes i get a lot of movement in the evening when i sit down to relax for the day. Not aware of much during the day... maybe all the running around after ds in the day lulls little one to sleep and then is a night owl when all goes quiet!

looby about the glucose but about another scan!

DH has just booked next wednesday off work to take me and ds sale shopping yay! i'll be looking for girly sale stuff

looby i didn't have as many options in our local area for classes... just normal antenatal stuff for what to expect at birth etc & a breathing in labour class. I did both and some bits were helpful and some bits were idiotic... the post natal classes were an absolute scream... eg the feeding one they made a point of making sure we all knew not to give our babies coffee/tea/alcohol...

Great place to meet people at same stage as you pregnancy wise though. The post natal classes were good for this too... I'm still in touch with 6 girls from there and we meet regularly for chats/coffee/cake and the kids play.

Momino · 13/01/2009 13:44

Looby, not heard of the parenting classes but I think you can't lose with any information you get.

I'm going on an antenatal Refresher one to one with NCT so I can go over the relaxation, pain relief, how to deal with labour, partner role in labour as we forgot everything with dd2's birth and had a terrible experience. i don't want this to happen again.

moonlit, I didn't mean you to worry about missing my post . this thread is starting to pick up speed again after the hols.

I love Atlanta from what I've seen; have been there once job interview with CNN but moved to the UK instead. Atlanta seemed so exciting with lots to do. I bet it's very child-friendly. about healthcare, insurance aside the care and facilities seem so much better/thorough than here but I imagine it depends upon your OB/gyn and hospital. i'm sure all will go very well. keep us updated on the move.

rosielady · 13/01/2009 14:34

Hi All!

I have been following this thread for a while, good to have fellow mumsnetters going through the same as me!

I am due 26th May - 21 weeks 0 days. second baby (DS 3yrs old) doesn't appear to be any others on that date. Had my second scan yesterday and all seems well.

had to push myself away from my desk and pull the keyboard toward me as the bump is getting so big! don't remember feeling this achey - difficult to get around as first time round, however, 3 years on and a bit heavier now!

FiKelly · 13/01/2009 14:37

lol rosielady ikwym when i have the laptop on my lap it's getting further and further away!

joyful- In the past 2 days I have been feeling more movement in the day, and it woke me up 2 nights ago with it's kicking, but I would say before 22 weeks I was just feeling it in the evenings when I was resting. Good luck with the scan. I was awake for several hours last night worrying so try to stay calm.

Moonlit · 13/01/2009 18:27

I haven't felt any movement!

Wjen I went for scan yesterday the baby only moved once, when it moved the hand away from it's face.

This one is very lazy me thinks

My DD was very active during my pregnancy and still is

With my first pg I did NCT classes (£90 for a few sunday afternoon sessions + optional BF class) and a one-off Saturday NHS class. NCT were definitely better as built some great support networks but I guess a weekly NHS class would have done the same. I would go to any classes being offered if it was my first.

re. movements- don't feel many at the moment, but at least once a day so not too worried (21+1 weeks).

Momino · 13/01/2009 20:49

re: movement, I didn't feel too much movement till about 22 weeks. now feeling movement a lot of the time. I think it's a girl because my last two moved a lot in pregnancy. A lot of my friends with boys said they didn't move much.

For those with more thank one with different sexes, do you think there is a difference in movement of boys and girls in the womb?

divedaisy · 13/01/2009 20:57

I feel movements mainly when I stop and take a rest. Seems I feel it mostly when I'm sitting and I get kicked very low. Strange, cos I remember weeks ago slouching on the sofa watching my belly move about - but it was above the level of my belly button - now all the movement is low! All very weird! But it is the best feeling in the world. I lay in the bath a few nights ago watching the live action!
I've a box load of baby clothes in my room now that I plan to have a peek at after Holby City's over! I can't wait to find out what I've boxed away! I need to get new mattresses for the moses basket and crib, and a pram - and I think that's it!

Is anyone else off food? I really do not fancy anything apart from yoghurts, milk, tea, grapefruit juice, cereal, bananas, apples, carrot sticks with humous dip etc. The thought of making a main meal or even thinking what to cook makes me feel ill! I just want juicy sweet stuff! And then some more!
