Congratulations on all the scans and sorry to those who were a bit frustrated they couldn't see the gender.

I have mine tomorrow and I am terrified. Hope to get at least some sleep tonight. Will be mighty relieved when it is all over. Good thing is that I am one of the first appointments in the morning so at least I will get it over and done with!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 12/01/2009 19:05

Hello all and congrats to those who know which flavour (and heartfelt commiserations to those having a girl - your life is now officially Barbie Pink with glitter on top , take it from a mum of 2 girls).

Anyone else getting effin restless leg syndrome? Got it with Eve (DD2) really bad, together with SPD and it would appear I have them both again. Any advice re the restless legs???

Also, anyone finding baby bouncing on sensitive fanjo-based nerve that causes them to gasp loudly at work? No, just me then............

Good luck to those awaiting scans!!

CoteDAzur · 12/01/2009 19:43

I find my legs are most restless when I'm lying on my back with legs stretched in front. It goes away when I slightly turn to one side, even when watching TV.

pulapula · 12/01/2009 19:52

I heard something about eating a banana and drinking milk before bed might help with restless legs or leg cramps maybe? Worth a try. Haven't had it bad for a while but remember it vividly from last pgs. Also think my joints are loosening up (pelvis and knees) and also feeling like I'm waddling too Dandylioness (also 21 weeks!)

congrats on all the good scans today, pleased that all the babies are doing well and growing nicely!

Can't believe how big the little one looked, she was perfect! Delighted we are having a girlie girl again... My ideal of sisters sharing rooms and clothes etc will be a reality, unless they fight like cat and dog!

Good luck to everyone awaiting scans!

Pillow between the knees helps my restles legs...

I am due on 25th May too!!! and I waddle but thats because of my pelvis hurting, apparently you should try and walk with your knees slightly bent.

I am sooooo pleased about the pink!!!!!

llareggub · 12/01/2009 20:32

I'm waddling too. I wonder if it something to do with the centre of gravity shifting?

Moonlit · 12/01/2009 21:01

LOL...the waddling posts made me laugh. I just went to Tescos and found myself waddling from the car to the entrance. I have the restless legs too. My cramps get so bad at night, that it makes me jump out of bed. My Mum has shown me an excercise to do when this happens in the night, hence why I jump out of bed because it requires you to stand up.

I find my body pillow helps too! DH was complaining that the body pillow gets more action than he does

I reckon the waddling is something to do with widening pelvis- I definitely feel looser between my legs if that makes any sense. Might have to start wearing my support belt thingy to hold everything together. Luckily its not really painful- nothing like SPD.

Jennster · 12/01/2009 21:47

What about a support pair of knickers to hold everything together and to keep baby in for us 3rd and plus timers?

flippineck · 12/01/2009 21:57

Evening all!

I've updated the list, we're having a surprise so have added that.

Restless legs - I find that mine are worse if I'm dehydrated. Not sure what the connection is, but if I've plenty of water during the day it's less of a problem in the evening.

My best mate has recommended two private baby scanning companies they do every type of baby scan there is, and their prices are much more reasonable than the London ones.

www.babybond.com/index.php

and

www.babypremier.co.uk/

My DH refuses to let me have one to find out the gender. I might just go and book one whilst he is on a business trip .

Moonlit · 13/01/2009 00:58

pulapula - yup the heal thing definitely works! I have tried holding my breath and trying not to move when I feel a cramp coming on, but that most definitely does NOT work!!!

LoobyLou36 · 13/01/2009 07:21

Morning ladies

Hope everyone is feeling well.

Off to the hospital for a consultant appointment at 9 this morning. Have remembered my wee pot not easy the way my brain is at the moment.

Didn't sleep very well last night - just can't seem to get comfortable at the moment.

Morning. Congrats on the scans etc
Sorry to those who couldn't find out the sex and wanted to. (If it's any consolation I wouldn't have known the sex after my 20 wks scan either as baby was facing away from us with legs together so no chance of seeing anything at al. I only know from the amnio result.)
Big congrats to Rubysmom - am thrilled for you having another pink one when that's what you were longing for. As a mummy of 2 girls I'd say you've got a whole load of fun (and sparkly things) ahead of you! Fab.

Re: waddling - am also starting to feel a bit waddly these days although try not to!

Right so, opinions needed. You will think I am mental (and you'd prob be right) but having had 2 normal deliveries (1 easy, 2nd one a disaster almost ending in emergency c/s) I am now considering

  1. a homebirth (!!!!)
  2. pleading with consultant for elective C/S

OK so I know they are the 2 extremes but I just want to avoid what happened last time (went into hosp in labour at 4cm. Contracting every 2 mins, huge contractions. Continued to do this for 12 hours and still 4cm. Hence the emergency C/S threat. DD2 born (normally) very fast 20 mins later. Confused? Hmmmm, well I was and still am. Have meeting with consultant on Thurs (at my request) to talk about what happened (reaction to the diamorphine or epidural) etc and how to avoid it happening again. Was AWFUL. And the first time was such an easy textbook experience.
(BTW apologies to all the first timers - it really didn't hurt - HONEST!!!!)

Anyway, DH just shrugs his shoulders and says it's up to me what I want to do, but doesn't 'get' the homebirth idea as he says why not go to hosp when 'all the stuff is there'. Duh. I'd actually like to try a homebirth as I reckon things only went wrong for me when I went to hospital and if I was at home I might have stayed more relaxed, wouldn't have had the option of epidural and all might have been much quicker and easier. But maybe not. And maybe would have ended up in an ambulance. Who knows. Anyway it's bugging me.

Sorry huge post.

morning all. congrats on all the scans!
Rubysmom 2 girls lovely! my two are at the stage of playing together (and fighting!) nicely. It's also nice to see dd2 wearing the beautiful things dd1 wore 1st time around. It's also given me an excuse to spend more on dd1 since I know it will go on to dd2 (even better if baby3 is a girl then!).

HOWEver, I have just looked at my finances in horror as I've spent all my holiday pay (hundreds!) over the past few months on clothes and I know a lot of it was for the girls. With 2 girls, it's impossible not to go to the sales. So be careful!

Moonlit, ithink you missed my last post re: US. where are you moving to? I'm from Ohio and desperate to get back to the US as I miss my family but we're waiting for the economic clime to improve slightly. Also much better now that GBush is set to go. Anyway, best wishes on your move.

re: shopping, i'm melting, it's so cute - my last purchase has just arrived which is a red peacoat for dd1 from Boden Sales. it's adorable and can't wait to see her in it!

saying this, i am now banned from ebay and any internet shopping . spending money I don't have which isn't responsible for someone having a 3rd child in May with a rubbish-pay job.

speaking of job, better get to work....

delighted I would have been confused too.. with you having 2 normal deliveries (albeit 1 being odd) you should have no problems talking them into letting you have a home birth if you want. I wanted a home birth with DS (our 1st) as our local hospital only has a midwife led unit with no options for water birth and surgical if CS needed. So I figured if I needed an emergency CS i would be rushed from there or from home to bristol by ambulance 20miles away so I may as well stay at home with my own facilities!

As it turned out shortly after my midwife had dropped round the home birthing kit they leave with you in advance of your due date... pre-eclampsia reared it's head out of the blue and I ended up being rushed into bristol by ambulance and the rest couldn't have been further from my birth plan (I won't go into details here but if anyone wants to find out what happened it's all on the birth trauma thread here on mumsnet).

I ended up with an emergency CS with DS and i'm told an elective one is much easier for your body to cope with... but you'll be on the tiny codine pain killers for the 1st day or 2 and then the odd paracetamol after that if your anything like me. The 1st day after the CS you are very sore... and moving around very slowly (when you eventually gather up the strength to move) while looking like the hunchback from notredame as getting upright is hard at first! Day 2 you're upright but will still find it tricky to manoeuvre around. I didn't have any pain from the incision itself in regard to baby/breast feeding but the overall soreness did complicate things to find a position that was comfortable to sit/lie down in. It will take you longer to heal/recover from the birth with a cs than a normal delivery but as long as you have some help with lifting etc it's not so bad.

My best friend had a CS 1st time round and a normal (albeit a close shave with pos of em cs) 2nd time around. She said her normal delivery was much easier post birth even with it being a bit tricky...

I guess what I'm saying is a CS is no walk in the park even if it's elective... and a complicated natural delivery is also not great. I think you'll find it easier to decide when you have the facts about last time... I know that meeting the consultant really helped me. This time I unfortunately don't have the option of a home birth (because of the complications last time) and I am under consultant care (we switched hospitals too for a fresh start with no bad memories)... hoping for a VBAC this time (consultant is supporting my choice for this) but in the end i'll just go with the flow and if it has to be another CS then so be it... just have to wait and see if I get pre-eclampsia at 38.5 wks again... as that will rule out any chance of the VBAC.

Why do birth plans have to be so hard to decide on?!!

just detected an aroma from DS bum... off to deal with that.

if you want to ask me anything about my CS feel free... and another close friend has had 2 successful home waterbirths.... very envious of that.

Momino - I am so sorry for missing your post, my brain isn't working too efficiently these days

We are moving to Atlanta. Both DH and I were born and brought up here, so it's going to be a big change for us. We go the US every year because DH's brother lives in Maryland.

DH was offered a permanent move via his company and the way things are at the moment, we jumped at the chance. It's very daunting though. We have got so much to do, the contents of our whole house have to be shipped over, and with DC2 on the way the logistics are mind boggling.

I have chosen my hospital and doctor (but I need to register with her). It will be like having my first again, as I am going into a new healthcare system.

If you have any advice, please let me know!
