Glask - I'm annoyed with your sister too!!!

GYo - zantac was prescription only until about 10 years ago and then became a pharmacy only medicine and then a few years ago smaller packs could be purchased anywhere. There's never been any real safety concerns with it but as ever some drug manufacturers and some GPs are (rightly) cautious.
Your DH could go in and buy it and pretend it was for him and that's one of the difficulties of selling medicines - we have to trust what people tell us. At the end of the day, as long as we cover ourselves by asking all the right questions there's nothing more we can do.
I do get frustrated by people doing this but I equally understand in certain circumstances why people do.
Bit of a tricky one!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/12/2008 16:14

ooh thanks ses- suppose thats the same for many many medications

might see how it goes and ask the Dr if it gets worse...

Good luck at osteo Sorky...

Cosmogirl · 12/12/2008 16:17

Ooo heartburn sounds nasty. I've not had any yet (prob jinxed myself now...)Come on Kay!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/12/2008 16:17

what do i do about my sister? Do i go in all guns blazing again and tell her straight what damage she could be doing to her unborn daughter? Do i get my mum to talk to her again (which mum is very tactless and will say i've seen facebook- so sis will still fall out with me) what do i do?????????

OP posts:
SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 12/12/2008 16:19

It really is GYo. Thankfully ranitidine is one of the easier ones to deal with!

Come on Kay!! Not sure whether to be impatient or supportive or both!

DH has just phoned. I was meant to be going up to London with him tonight for his firm's Christmas do. No way I have the energy which is really disappointing as it's the first year partners have been invited. DH wants me to give him a lift to the station later. Just hope I don't miss THE birth announcement! Don't think he needs a lift until about 5.30pm so hopefully we'll all be celebrating by then!

SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 12/12/2008 16:22

Glask - could you give her a ring and say something like:
"This is really difficult but rather than stew I wanted to talk directly to you. I was on FB and obviously saw your status and I'm just concerned for you and your little baby. I don't know whether you realise the damage that alcohol can do and I care too much about you not to say anything"

If she still refuses to listen, I'm afraid you've done all you can. Don't know if that helps..

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 12/12/2008 16:24

Understand thats frustrating as people can lie... makes your job harder...
Im too honest as is DH so wouldnt do what i said...

Used to work in pharmacy as an asssistant (unqualifiedi hasten to add...) for years when I was teenager. Loved it - though dont remember any difficult pregnant women questions

Anyway... are we starting new timeslots for the evening?

im going for:

7-7.30pm same wt.

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 12/12/2008 16:25

Ranitidine is also given as a pre-med for planned c-sections...an added bonus that I was taking them when I had my EMCS as when I threw up during the op, it wasn't all acidy and horrible (er, not that it was pleasant either? )

Storky - F5 is a fairly standard refresh function in both IE and Firefox, I'd not heard of it being anything else so have learnt something new today! Normally volume is using a Function Key plus an F# key, e.g. on mine, Fn+F8 adjusts the volume.

SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 12/12/2008 16:25

Ok - I'll go for 6.30-7pm same wt

LaSparklyTourEiffel · 12/12/2008 16:30

Ooooh, that took me too long to post and is now completely irrelevant. Ignore me.

I'll take 10-10.30 if that's OK?

Glask - what Ses said . But at the end of the day, with friends and family, I always feel that while you can do you best to guide people, ultimately our roles will be to support if things do go wrong...because we love them...even when sometimes it is time and time again.

But also agree that this is too big to not say anything. Sadly, if she's drinking as much as it sounds like, it may be too late already anyway as the LO is bound to be affected in some way by big amounts of alcohol...

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/12/2008 16:31

i think she's already had him so i wont even make a guess now!!

Think i'm just gonna be blunt and honest with my sister again.... last tiem i tried the softly softly aproach, then when that didn't work lost my rag with her, then when that didn't work tried to get mum to talk to her!!

OP posts:
SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 12/12/2008 16:33

Won't be easy with your sister Glask - good luck and let us know how it goes.

If Kay's already had him she needs to text someone or post! (I know I'm probably being a bit unreasonable and too impatient!)

Playingthe9monthwait · 12/12/2008 16:49

Hi Glask, hard to know what to say about your sister. If it were mine I would tell her to stop being such a daft selfish bint, but a) mine never would and b) we are good mates so I would get away with saying soemthing like that. Don't envy your position though.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/12/2008 16:50

haha- Ses- you prompted me to text her again... my text went like this 'have you had him yet? can you tell the wagon is getting impatient? After all its nearly tea time and we need to know if we can have virtual wagon champers with our tea!x'

OP posts:
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 12/12/2008 16:52

Playing- we are normally very good friends... but since she was kicked out of home and messed up living here with us its been one argument after another between us, lots more since her pregnancy!!

OP posts:
Playingthe9monthwait · 12/12/2008 16:56

Thats such a difficult position for you to be in! You don't want to push her away too much as you want involvement with your neice but you can't just sit back and say nothing either. Mind you, i am sure she knows she shouldn't be going out on the piss, so would anything you say actually have any effect?
