frazzledoldbag34 · 10/12/2008 17:13

BTW some good news.
2 friends have had babies this week already - an Andrew and a Harvey.
Am a bit jealous!

frazzledoldbag34 · 10/12/2008 17:14

And WHERE has Detsy gone?
Hope she's ok?

frazzledoldbag34 · 10/12/2008 17:15

Talking to myself, again

cece · 10/12/2008 17:16

Oh we are thinking of the name Andrew if it is a boy!

Frazzled I have never had the mw who booked me in deliver me so you might never meet that one again!

bekkaboo · 10/12/2008 18:10

Hi all what a day, been suffering really bad with panic attacks, been hospital today, blood pressure very high. Consultant thinks down to trauma of last bith and has recommended planned CS this time. Have app with anethiaste sp?? to discuss. LAst time i had GA as epidurals failed 7 times, got to get medication for BP if doesn't improve. See how anxiety goes now and maybe get some pills for that too. Oh the joys, at least this time i know what to expect.

Anyone else in same boat?

EmmalinaC · 10/12/2008 18:17

MissyK how nice to hear that your consultant was sympathetic and had taken the trouble to discuss your situation with others.

Frazzled sorry to hear your midwife was a bit rubbish!

It's a bit random isn't it? So much depends on the individual practitioner you see.

Congrats to everyone who's had scans recently. Got my 20 weeks scan on Monday - am feeling very nervous. It's booked with a consultant to see if my thyroid problems have affected the baby. Fingers crossed!

Divedaisy thanks for suggested books - thought I might get a couple for DD for Christmas.

SpangleMaker · 10/12/2008 18:48

Hi all

Quick post from me as I'm cooking dinner then we're off out to a punk gig better stand at the back I suppose!

Glad to hear from those who've had good scans. Mine's tomorrow morning. I'm excited but a bit scared too.

Oh Jael happy birthday!

Frazzled sorry to hear about your rubbish midwife. I was a bit about mine but she seems ok after a couple of visits. When I saw detsy the other w/e she said she'd got a trip to South Africa coming up, can't remember if it was this week though.

divedaisy those books sound fab, and I haven't even got a small child to read them to - although SIL told my niece the other day and apparently she's thrilled & told her whole school she's going to have a cousin - aww.

MissyK · 10/12/2008 19:20

DiveDaisy I am also being referred to the psychiatrist & psychologist, like you I spent years on medication & have had 'therapy' which I will be starting again in the next few weeks. My mind is by no means made up about an e-cs, however I am relieved that they aren't seeing it as something that's just in my head and are looking into all options of getting me and my family through the following months in one piece. After all through being ill with pnd I 'missed' the first year and a half of my ds's life due to being in hospital, or drugged up unable to look after him properly. This is what I am scared of happening again.
I can state I labour for so many hours and if no progress or if there are problems have an emergency cs, however, they think this may be trauatic for me in itself & I could feel like a failure so an elective would be the only guaranteed way of avoiding these feelings.
I know not everyone agrees about having an elective without attempting labour but where I live an elective is not given lightly & as there is no private care, so it's NHS all the way..
I'm terrified either way! I think someone should knock me out & wake me up when the little man is here! Pathetic or what!

pulapula · 10/12/2008 20:06

Missyk,

I had en elective last time and will be having another this time. I found it a wonderful experience, and the recovery was better than i expected. I am a squeamish person so the thought of it would make me go funny, but it was the right decision for me.

I had a difficult first delivery and problems following it, and during my last pg I couldn't relax until i knew whether the consultant would agree to a section (i would have gone private if not as I felt strongly about it). I saw him at 20 weeks and he was fine about it and i felt like a weight had been lifted. I did think about changing my mind (second deliveries meant to be quicker & easier and a lot of problems were due to DD being back-to-back) but in the end, I couldn't take the risk.

I was lucky that DH took 6 weeks off work last time so i had support and didn't need to do any lifting, but he won't be able to do that this time, which worries me a bit as I will have a 4 year old, 2 year old and baby to manage. But my PIL are in the same town, so I will ask them to help when i need to.

MsG · 10/12/2008 22:11

Is it normal to feel really emotional and burst into tears which last for up to 45 minutes?

I mean, I've suffered from depression and anxiety in the past (I suffer from OCD too) but it's been a long time since I've felt so emotional and cried so much, and it seems to have come on in the last week or so. I think I'll mention it to the midwife. I was on meds till June this year and I really do notice a difference when I'm not on them.

Thanks to those of you who have talked about PND and depression - makes it easier to be open about struggling. xx

Momino · 11/12/2008 09:24

morning all.
MsG, about being emotional: glad you mentioned this as I really broke down yesterday. Should have been happy after a good scan but think maybe reality hit (?) and became overwhelmed. felt incredibly low and negative. then I got my pay notice for this month's salary which is nearly £100 less than before and that set me sobbing for 45 min - like you! and utterly, heartbroken sobbing. i think I needed to get it out but felt it was a little out of hand.

still getting counselling for PND though don't believe i'll get any better. i'll mention this burst at next session and also seeing GP for same thing next week. Hope they can help but not confident.

I too am glad everyone's been open about pnd or similar. it helps to know how other people are coping and overcoming.

Millicow, welcome and congrats. we had our scan yesterday and I really wish now we would have found out the sex. We have 2 girls and i really want a boy (but I say to everyone 'don't mind as long as it's healthy').

i have a strong feeling it's a girl as it looked so similar on scan, same movements, same pregnancy as last 2, etc. i'm worried if/when it comes out a girl, i'll be very disappointed so maybe we should have found out for sure so we could have prepared mentally.

but as long as he/she is healthy....

Momino · 11/12/2008 09:27

Jael, if you're on, hopeyou had a great birthday .

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 11/12/2008 09:29

Morning Ladies,

Anyone about??

Im currently under strict bedrest, my two year old jumped on my bump this morning and am in alot of pain, I also have low blood pressure milliemoo and have been told to rest and take it easy, not so easy when you have a two year old!

If anyone fancies a chat il be lurking all day!

Nikkie ~&~ Poorly Bump!

LoobyLou36 · 11/12/2008 09:50

Morning Ladies

Hope we are all feeling well. I haven't felt any movement for a few days although I did feel quite a bit last week.

Emmalinec I've got my 20wk scan on Monday too. V.nervous and excited at the same time. I don't want to find if boy or girl tho I think my DH does. I think its a girl he thinks its a boy.

Momino · 11/12/2008 09:51

Hi Nikki,
I'm working (really!) and girls at nursery. I get so bored with my job as there is a lot of admin that I'm always on/off MN during work days.

Hope you're feeling better. must admit a little jealous of your good excuse for bedrest, though don't know how you'll rest effectively with a toddler! have a lot of good DVDs to watch?

take care, xx

LoobyLou36 · 11/12/2008 09:52

Hope you feel better soon nikkie take it easy.

LoobyLou36 · 11/12/2008 09:57

momino I've been feeling very emotional too at the moment. Not being helped by having not been paid for last 2 weeks. Worried about money, xmas, baby, etc, etc, etc. DH tries but doesn't understand my worries.

Added to which have just found out my DH ex wife is dropping off stepdaughter to our house at the weekend. Driving 2.5hrs to drop off is v.unusual they usually meet halfway. Do you think she is being nosy?! I just feel a little paranoid at the moment, she looks down at me but have no idea why (DH thinks I'm being silly).

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 11/12/2008 10:05

Luckily I have managed to pack dd off to gp's so its just me and the hot water bottle! I hope the pain goes soon, it bloody hurts! Why is it that Drs feel the need to scare the crap out of you, they sent one out to me at home as I cant stand up straight or move at the mo and he said "should be ok, but if bleeding starts get an ambulance to a&e" ah marvelous! Midwife didnt offer any reassurance either "as your only 17 weeks there is nothing we can do" so apparently Im supposed to be expecting the worst by the way they put it!

So what wonders of day time tv do I need to look forward to today? I work full-time so this is rather a novelty for me!

I wish I could work from home, what is it you do Mominio?

Momino · 11/12/2008 10:25

I do 'parent services' for nct and organise/book ante/post natal courses (ironically). I had a huge area of Yorkshire which I was supposed to manage in 3 working days (2 days girls at nursery so have to spread 3rd day over evening and weekend). it was too much for any human to handle so they've cut the area which unfortunately means a paycut as well. so now am making barely what to cover for 2 days nursery.

the prob is, girls love nursery, i think it's good for them. This job is such rubbish pay for a lot of work but it's flexibility is great. I guess I'll just think really hard during mat leave as to what I want to do.

Thank goodness for grandparents! bless them... don't know about daytime telly, though: rubbish but strangely comforting. HOpe your house is warm, too!

Jael · 11/12/2008 10:41

Morning ladies.

Had a lovely birthday thank you, lots of treats. DP has booked me in for a pregnancy massage and pedicure for Saturday too. He is so thoughtful bless him! And DP and DD bought be a lovely cake and sang Happy Birthday to me, was lovely.

However, today my DD has terrible cold and cough. She keeps almost being sick from coughing so much. I have given her calpol, shall I get her some cough medicine? Any recommendations? Shes meant to be staying with grandparents tomorrow in London, and were joining them on Sunday.

I haven't really felt alot of movements recently either, although in the middle of the night, I'm almost sure I felt baby completely move around if you get me. I had my hands on my bump.

Jael X

LoobyLou36 · 11/12/2008 10:44

glad you had a good birthday Jael hope you DD feels better soon

divedaisy · 11/12/2008 11:05

Hi Ladies - I gave the wrong information to you all about one of the books I got off amazon. I said that I'm a Big Brother By: Joanna Cole contained a brief encounter with the birth canal - infact this info is in I'm Going to Be a Big Brother! By: Brenda Bercun.

Moonlit · 11/12/2008 11:06

Hey Jael,

I have never had any success with cough medicines. So I always give my daughter honey in warm milk and rub vicks on her chest at night.
