Hi all, haven't been on for a few days but it sounds like most of you had good weekends.

runningmonkey I had a bunged up nose for about 4 weeks which has finally gone!

In fact I'm just starting to get that second trimester feeling - I look pregnant (not just fat!) and am much less tired than I was a few weeks ago. Nobody has told me I'm blooming yet though!

Also started to get some regular movement - hurrah! - at 18+6 today.

EmmalinaC · 08/12/2008 21:12

I'm interested to read the potty training thread - it's something I've been putting off and DD is exactly 2 and a half. Don't suppose anyone can recommend a book they've found helpful?

Good luck with it momino

EmmalinaC · 08/12/2008 21:13

And lol at frazzleds blow job post!

llareggub · 08/12/2008 21:17

Ooooh, I'd be interested in a potty training book. DS had his first poo on the loo last night, I was so proud of him!

Moonlit · 08/12/2008 23:28

Hi Ladies,

I hope you are all enjoying your second trimester....I know I am....finally!!!!

Re: Potty Training, the best book is Potty Training in One Week by GF (I am not sure I can say her name . But anyway I trained my DD in two days using this book. She doesn't wear nappies at all, not even at night. If you guys want any help, I will be happy to offer it.

yawningmonster · 09/12/2008 06:10

Hi again
Scan went really well, all looks good and we were totally floored to learn baby is going to be a girl. Everybody thought this was another boy so off to surf the net for some clothes as ds was and is a real boys boy when it comes to clothing. Will get away with it with a new born but think as she grows that the truck, dinosaur blue and green themes may get a bit tiresome for her.
I am out the other side of potty training, ds is dry night and day (4) and we very much just got led by him as to when and how he wanted to do it all. Rather than books for us we did use books for him eg
I want my Potty by Tony Ross
Sara's Potty by (um will go and check if anyone really wants to know, is a lovely flap book which ds really liked)
Time to Pee (again will have to check author, very american (no offense meant here but terminology different from what we use in NZ)

EmmalinaC · 09/12/2008 09:11

Wow moonlit - potty trained in two days?! That sounds perfect. What age was your DD at the time? Will get a copy of that book.

Thanks for the other suggestions yawningmonster, Sounds like a good way to plant to the idea!

At the moment DD says she needs a wee, gets her special loo seat and step, takes her nappy off, climbs on to the loo, waits a while, wipes and says I've finished. But she's not actually doing anything!

Hope everyone is well this morning.

I started the day with a big argument with DH over the fact that the decorating still isn't finished. He is doing an immaculate job but it's so slow - into the third week on one room! Am I being unreasonable to want to shout 'JUST SLAP THE PAINT ON SO WE CAN USE OUR LIVING ROOM AGAIN!'?! Sorry - I know I am being unreasonable. Rant over!

Sorry yawningmonster completely missed that part of your post - glad to hear your scan went well. And hurrah for buying lots of new girl clothes! Congratulations.

Jael · 09/12/2008 14:02

Hi ladies, haven't been on over the weekend, wasn't feeling too good. Spoke to midwife Friday and she referred me to see physio, physio phoned up yesterday to arrange appointment, and I went this morning. She gave me some exercises to do, and I've got to see her again next week. I bought myself a support band over the weekend. They don't give them to you for nothing, they still expect you to pay for them, and they're cheaper in the shops, so I saved myself some monies I feel really really tired, just wanted to let you know how I'd got on, gonna go watch a christmassy film with DD now. Is my birthday tomorrow btw hope I'm feeling better by then X

Jael X

llareggub · 09/12/2008 14:52

Happy birthday Jael I hope the physio helped.

runningmonkey · 09/12/2008 16:24

Jael, Happy birthday for tomorrow. Hope you are feeling ok. Glad you got to see physio - hope it helps out. If its any consolation, I had a really tired week last week, but feel a lot better now. Try to take it as easy as poss.

I just got back from mw appt and heard heartbeat for first time it was 142ish. What does that suggest, I can't remember!

EmmalinaC · 09/12/2008 18:34

runningmonkey I think that suggests a boy. Or maybe a girl having a sleep.

Happy birthday jael

FiKelly · 09/12/2008 19:19

yawningmonster YAY a girl congratulations!

jael have a great birthday tomorrow and hope it's not as painful a one for you too.

Going through another really shattered all time time phase so planning an early night... if LO will stop kicking me in my hip bones (yeowch)! So might not be on much tonight...

pulapula · 09/12/2008 19:29

Emmalina,

How old is your DD- if she is understanding the process then why not try her in pants so she can make the association with needing/doing a wee. It might be a bit messy at first, but if she understands the rest of it, then once she realises the sensation, she might get it very soon. I potty trained my DD early (poos in the potty every time from 10 mo- once she'd done one, she would only do them when on the potty so no more dirty nappies for us). Wees took a lot longer, with a few regressions but it sounds like your DD is ready.

With DS we don't have the time or inclination to start potty training yet (18 mo) but its funny to think our DD was in pants at this age. I might make a big effort before LO arrives, when he's nearly 2 and I'm on maternity leave. Otherwise it may have to wait a while!

pulapula · 09/12/2008 19:33

Yawningmonster- congrats on having a girl - it's very exciting when you get a different "flavour"- a whole new experience! Less than 4 weeks til I find out what we're having, hopefully. If we can't see, then I am tempted to go for a private scan- it costs £50 here for a sexing scan.

CoteDAzur · 09/12/2008 20:04

Hi everyone. My tri-test result came back today and I am at the exact limit where amnios are offered - 1/250. We wanted an amnio no matter what the results of tri-test and already had it scheduled for next week, so I don't know why I am affected by this, but I am

Trying to keep positive and not think about it. What will be will be.

EmmalinaC · 09/12/2008 20:10

Thanks pulapula - that makes sense. I guess I will have to just accept the inevitable puddles for a bit!

CoteDAzur sorry to hear you're feeling so anxious. At least once you've had the amnio you will know for sure and until then, try to remember that the odds are very much in your favour.

runningmonkey · 09/12/2008 20:33

Thanks emmalina thought so. That's what I think I'm having anyway. Don't know why!

pulapula · 09/12/2008 20:35

Cote- try not to be down - 1 in 250 is still very low risk. I was shocked when I found that just for being 36 my risk score was 1 in 250 too.

runningmonkey · 09/12/2008 20:37

Cote sorry you are feeling anxiuos as emmalina says odds are in your favour

CoteDAzur · 09/12/2008 20:53

Thank you all for the support. It's going to be OK. I think.

On the plus side, I heard baby's heartbeat, blood test shows no toxoplasmosis, and doctor said that I didn't need to worry about being left in the hands of an incompetent midwife like last time, because he will be there the whole time and will be the one to help me give birth.

Momino · 09/12/2008 22:18

evening all.
Dandy, I'm grouchy too and feel horrible about it. 4th day of potty training and dd1 was fine but she held it in the whole day like she was afraid to use the potty. at 4pm i finally got her to sit on the potty but she kept hopping up and running about in a tantrum, crying. I tried to find out what was wrong, was she scared, etc. It was obvious she had to go but just wouldn't do it in the potty. I felt mean but pretty much forced her to sit and she was crying but did a huge wee. then, her face brightened and she was proud, i gave her a star and a treat.

This was great but I really shouted at her and am really afraid that I'm scaring her out of the potty. but it's too late now. Can only see how she does in the next few days. Nursery tomorrow and thu so I'm sure they'll give her the attention she needs.

all in all, she's had no accidents the last two days. yesterday got 4 stars and today 2. I'm lightly using the GF book as well. but not following to a T.

Scan tomorrow! not sure whether to ask the sex. Just hoping baby's healthy.

pulapula · 09/12/2008 22:26

Momino- if you are not sure whether to ask about the sex, you could always ask them to look (and you look away) and write it down- then if you decide you want to know later on, you can take a peek in the envelope! I definitely want to know!

pulapula · 09/12/2008 22:28

Oh, and i am mrs grouchy too!

I saw my MW yesterday and everything is OK (apart from severe constipation- must sort it out). Next thing is 20 week scan then see her again at 24 weeks.
