He got the name Douglas as I was driving home from Perth to Peterhead after collecting him still desperately trying to decide what to call him. I passed Douglastown & I thought oooh Douglas suits him

Momino · 05/12/2008 23:28

am having 1/8th glass of red wine tonight. it's taking me two hours to finish it! nothing on tv but Alan partridge (i do find funny).

am going to do some ebay browsing and off to bed.

sleep tight and hope all are in good spirits tomorrow. xx

good morning

feeling much brighter today and dh is no longer grumpy he's just off to start moving ds bedroom around to fit his new bed in and the cot. ds new bed is coming thursday

Momino · 06/12/2008 09:21

morning! hope all are well today.

Dh just went off to get a christmas tree ! FIL mentioned that with an artificial tree they've only spent £30 in the past 5 years whereas we've spent 5x that by getting a real one each year. i know it's a waste of £ but i love the smell of pine and it looks so pretty. always had a real tree when we were little.

strange children this morning: dd2 happy as a lark but won't eat anything; dd1 happy as a lark but won't move from the sofa - been there over 2hours since Balamory but telly has now been off for an hour.

i'm going to the cinema today with a friend as a treat. going to see whatever recent film angelina jolie is in. not a fan of hers but heard it's good and friend really wants to see it. i'm happy to get the cinema experience: popcorn, drink, dark room = relaxation. it's been awhile.

MsG · 06/12/2008 11:16

Have a lovely time at the cinema - that film sounds good - let us know what it's like!

Hope everyone is ok today. I'm feeling quite Christmassy, but got to work this weekend. Never mind!

Is everyone remembering to do their pelvic floor exercises? I keep forgetting. xxx

SpangleMaker · 06/12/2008 13:19

Enjoy the cinema Momino

There would be no Christmas tree here until Christmas Eve if DH had his way but I usually talk him into putting it up a day or two 'early'. We'll go and choose the tree this weekend though - there's a garden place near us that grows them in a field, so we choose one a couple of weeks before then they cut it down & deliver (for free ) on the day we want it.

I'm having a cleaning day today... well, afternoon, done nothing yet . Been really busy over the last couple of weeks/weekends and the place is a complete tip .

MsG I started off being really good & doing them on my train journeys each day, but done none for weeks. Also not done any of the excercise DVDs I bought 2 months ago.

Think I may go & think about cleaning/exercising while I have a nice lunch

divedaisy · 06/12/2008 15:30

Go on ladies - get your Christams trees up! We've had ours up since last Sunday - it's a great way to hide the dust! By the way a layer of dust catches the light and makes everything look sparkly (that's my story and I;m sticking to it!)

I've no Christmas parties to go to and to be honest I'm pleased about it - I hate being present when people are pi**ed and I'm sober, and to be honest even the smell of booze makes me feel ill! I'd much prefer an evening in front of the telly with a mug of tea!!! I sound like a great laugh!! [fblush)

My back keeps going on me - very sore spot in middle of right buttock! And I feel the beginnings of SPD also - pubic bone very tender at times and leg pain makes legs feel very heavy. Won't complain cos DH won't want to hear me moan!!

OP posts:
SpangleMaker · 06/12/2008 18:23

divedaisy that's men for you!

I'm ducking out of a night out this evening. DH is out go-karting with a mate from work + some others, then back to this guy's house for food & drinks. I was invited to sit (not) drinking with the womenfolk while the boys are go-karting but since I only vaguely know one of the women and I can't drink it didn't sound much like fun. I think DH was a bit disappointed but I'm back in his good books for giving him a lift over there & possibly back if it's not too late. And I'm secretly looking forward to curling up with a hot chocolate & watching TV - what a party animal I am! (Plus I can MN in peace )

Not felt much from bean today. Normally I feel something I think is movement a few times a day. I'm determined not to get stressed about it though...

SpangleMaker · 06/12/2008 19:00

Can I take a turn at having a hormonal rant please?

DH has just rung me from the go-karting to say [his mate]'s wife is 'very disappointed' (DH's words, not hers I'm sure) I'm not there, could I not get myself ready & go over there (having not long got back from the 45min round trip), or go early to pick him up & spend a few hours with them?
I wish he could 'side' with me at least publicly - I told him earlier in the week I didn't fancy spending 5 or 6 hours sitting around someone else's house who I don't know very well, mostly without DH, when I can't even have a glass of wine. I also knew I'd be tired after a couple of heavy weeks, and we agreed this is what he'd say.

I do feel guilty as the woman in question is a nice person & I have got on well with her when we've met up before, so maybe I'm being a bit selfish... I'm just a bit grrrr that DH isn't sticking up for me & is making me feel even worse.

Sorry... I said it was a hormonal rant Feel better already for typing it out though.

Rubysmom08 · 06/12/2008 20:20

hi ladies I have posted this one pregnancy thread can any of you help xxx

Hi

I had my 12 wk scan a few weeks ago and I read in a magasine tonight about a lady who had a downs syndrome baby and that the short femur length was an indicator.

My scan was when I was 12+5weeks and the measurements were as follows;

crl= 73mm end of scale diagram thing
bpd= 22mm middle of scale
fl= 9mm just under middle of scale

With my first daughter my dates where spot on the babies growth was spot on this time they keep putting me back a week then putting me forward a week. I had had a private scan done at 10 weeks and the scan lady made a big deal abut the measurements at the scan and panicked me a bit but kind of just skimmed over it. My midwife is only holiday until next week.

Also my placenta is posterior low is this a bad thing?

Thanks in advance

FiKelly · 06/12/2008 21:48

rubysmom i've checked my scan pics and blurb from the nuchal scan i had at 12wks. my crl was 61.0 so consultant then dated me at 12wks + 3days i don't have your other 2 measurements though. as far as your placenta goes i'm sure i was told at some time that at this early stage exact height position isn't set and as your uterus expands it often ends up in a higher position. a posterior placenta is no prob.. mine is on the back wall too.

divedaisy · 06/12/2008 22:00

Rubysmom08 - I can't be of any help with those measurements. As for your dates - I would try not to worry too much. A lot of the measurements (the length) can be hit and miss because it depends on how much of the baby is showing and in the right position to the scanner. On 4th Nov when I went for my 12 weeek private scan the sonographer dated me 13+1 wks. The VERY NEXT day my consultant dated me 13+6wks - so inside 2 days I gained nearly 2 weeks! The consultant told me it is only an indication and most of the accuracy of it depends on how the baby behaves!

Spangle - what did you do? Did you go to the lady's house? She probably feels that you are sitting 'home alone' and wouldn't mind the opportunity for a nite out. I know a good few weeks ago I was at home enjoying my own company and TV choices, ds was at his Nans and DH up at the pub. I got a phone call around 10:30 (when I was heading for bed) from a girl I haven't seen in ages called me on his phone congratulating me on 'the news' and for some bizare reason I agreed to go up to the pub. So 10 mins later there I was wondering what in the hell I was doing there surounded by drunken idiots playing daft games for about 2 hours.... I hope you enjoyed your self tonight whatever the outcome!

I managed to get into a pair of size 14 non- pregnancy jeans today! Even got them zipped up without belly belt! However, now I have a belly explosion! No way can I sit here without the top button open and unzipped! I was getting a lot of protest kicks for more room! I'm gonna update the list - my MW is using the date my consultant gave me - 7th May.

I've ordered some books off amazon to give to DS so he can share more in this pregnancy and maybe understand what's going on and how it will affect him. Has anyone read any of these?

  • I'm a Big Brother By: Joanna Cole
  • Mummy's Having a Baby By: Camille Liscinsky
  • I'm Going to Be a Big Brother! By: Brenda Bercun
  • What's Inside Your Tummy, Mummy? By: Abby Cocovini

All opinions and experiences welcome!

what a good idea! i've not seen them but will be v interested in what you think of them when they come x

Momino · 06/12/2008 22:46

evening all!
divedaisy, not read any of those but you've given me some good ideas. we have one book that was handed down to us but can't remember title (none you mentioned). not sure how much a difference it made but preparation is good.

angelina jolie film was good (can't remember still what it was called . very disturbing content (child murders) but the main part of the film was gripping enough that i could get by the awful crimes without sobbing or coming out of the cinema in shock. well acted and interesting, i was mostly happy to get out of the house and do something non-mummy related (and stayed away from York shopping crowds).

more importantly, we put dd1 in pants today. she had two accidents the whole day but didn't do anything in the potty in between these so we know she has a strong bladder. at the end of the day, she 'got it' - before bath, she got on the potty herself whilst i bathed dd2 and did a big wee! i promptly praised her, helped her flush, wash hands, and gave her a bag of buttons! was very proud and pleased for her.

She's in a nappy tonight but we won't put her in them during the day - that right? going to buy her new pants tomorrow since she's outgrown the 2-3 yrs. that will be exciting .

Momino · 06/12/2008 22:50

spangle, I'm still unsure if I'm feeling anything at 19 weeks. I'm since it's my 3rd and i feel i should recognise the feeling. but no. it feels like tummy rumbles or gas (again).

Momino · 06/12/2008 23:22

my posts look so emotican-happy , don't they?

christmas tree is up. only a 6 foot one, the taller ones were £40+ so we agreed to pay less and leave a lot of space between our high ceiling and the treetop. maybe we should have gone for the fake kind .

ok, truly going to bed now. if only i can be bothered to get out of this comfy sofa...

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/12/2008 08:05

Morning . Am up and watching kids tv with the DD's (and have been for the past 40 mins). Listening to them squabble over Tom and Jerry and Peppa Pig isn't the most relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning. Think I've pursadeed them to switch over to SKyplus and watch Strictly from last night. At least they;ll dance around the room and not fight.
Was in bed asleep last night by 8pm - am such a party animal.
spangle Grrr how annoying of your DH. (I know how you feel I think because my DH has been known to do similar things). Did you go in the end?
divedaisy - those books sound good. Sorry I've no personal experience.
momino - fab, well done on the potty training. Have fun buying her new pants later! Sounds like she's 'gettting it' quickly. All good. Prob best to get her dry during the day before tackling the night times - I think.
Better go. DD1 gone off in a huff cos I've just told her off for annoying DD2 (for about the millionth time).
And I'm having another one? I must be mental.

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/12/2008 08:06

God and it's only 8am. Give me strength.

FiKelly · 07/12/2008 09:03

morning been up since 6am was hoping for a later start to day but the back up battery in smoke alarm went and it started beeping. woke us all up.. of course it takes a battery type we don't have!

spangle i feel for you being guilted into going out .. it's a pia. did you go?

momino yay great going.

frazzle.. my morning just got worse! half way through writing this our dog douglas scattered the hall with diaorreah! sp? just back from scrubbing it

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/12/2008 09:07

oh fi nightmare! poor you, absolutely the worst start to a sunday morning. On the bright side though it can only get better from here on in!

frazzledoldbag34 · 07/12/2008 09:14

Oh jael by the way I mentioned your SPD to my physio friend. She said midwives usually put a referral through as urgent so you should get seen pretty quickly. She wasn't at all surprised the consultant was hopeless but said the physios can do various exercises/manipulations which can help. They should also give you a support belt thing which can help too. Best of luck with getting some treatment for it very soon.

FiKelly · 07/12/2008 09:27

yucky to clear up esp on carpet! if it continues he'll be kept in the kitchen today with the easy wipe flooring. not worried.. as prob my fault giving him too much left over chicken for his tea last night as a treat. his old tummy bit sensitive these days.
