i mean fortnightly until 36 weeks..sorry!!!

cairns · 11/01/2009 16:33

Hi Ladies

My my haven't you all beeen busy. It will take me an age to catch up with everything.

Still feel sick etc. Only news is that I have my scan now booked for this Tuesday coming..... can't wait, although I guess I am quite scared at the same time as in my area they do a nuchal test too.. so fingers crossed everything is OK.

Regarding booking in an midwives, I think it is fairly normal that they leave it for a while to see you as all they do here is take medical history and bloods. Our midwives here won't see anyone before they are 10 weeks and scans are 11-14wks. They just popped a letter in the post which I only received a week ago ( I am 11wks now).

Kanuck. I too had fairly low Iron levels with DS1, similar to your level (and I do eat red meat!) I was at just off the low end of the range. Everyones advice is different, they suggested not to take Iron tablets until they got a lot lower later in pregnancy, just try and ensure my diet contained a lot of Iron rich foods at this stage (spinach I love and you can easily add lentils to many things so that helps). I must admit I did have to take them towards the end of the pregnancy but I couldn't cope with the side effects and they also weren;t doing that much good either (ie There was no change in my level!), so I stopped them. Everything was OK. I wouldn't worry yet until your levels do show a lot lower

cairns · 11/01/2009 16:45

Oh sorry I forgot to add on Iron levels. That in some areas they consider levels of 10 as when treatment is needed(not 11 as per the scale) just depends on your midwife/Dr. Although TBH if they are low early on, they are likely to continue to get worse (mine did).

Tablets are not great though, my advice has been to use Spatone or Floradix (liquid)and make sure you drink fresh OJ with any iron containing foods/tablets etc to help absorption

BabyBump2B · 11/01/2009 19:56

Hi all, Just wanted to check in and catch up - so much going on.

Uki - glad your scan was ok. Such a relief!

I'm just extraordinarily tired since Friday. And just generally feel like I have a really, really bad hang over! DH being very sweet and helpful which is good. Am just wishing the days away at this point - 2 more weeks till "safe".

HeinzSight · 11/01/2009 20:07

would second cairns on the Spatone, I can't tolerate iron tablets, I've got IBS and they cause all sorts of problems. Spatone is great, and like cairns says, drink it with orange juice to aid iron absorption.

Well I look about 4 months pregnant already, am only 9+2!! People are definitely going to start sussing. I still haven't been to the docs, I must get that sorted

Uki · 11/01/2009 21:30

Oonagh- sorry to hear of your friend, that is terrribly sad, I gather she has no children yet? that would be devestating, hope she takes your baby OK, she sounds like a good friend.

taleoftwo- sorry to hear of hard conceptions going on around you, will you really tell them it was a suprise?

kanuck- Sorry to hear of anaemia-I guess anaemia is pretty common, since it is a routine test, you must be even extra tired and weak though, i agree with everyone else get the beans (cannelloni- are great) and OJ and tablets into you.

gotta go ds is unhappy, wants to carry his yogurt around the house and I won't let him.

Sushipaws · 11/01/2009 21:33

I'm 8+1 today and I've decided I don't look pregnant yet, just tubby ;(

Zorra · 12/01/2009 07:55

Hi all, newcomers and all, good to catch up with your news and head into 2009...

Well, been running around for the last month but managed to have an early dating scan which wrongly dated me then a totally pointless nuchal scan which resulted in, well, nothing, as too early So I am 11 weeks tomorrow and bubba is fine which is aces, plus I've stopped feeling sick (unless I don't eat / move too fast / etc) Have had back ache, insomnia and constipation (sorry) so not all roses but crossing fingers for the good days!

readyfornumber2 · 12/01/2009 15:23

Hi all x
Well I am 7+1 today and have finally been to the docs (1st appointment available!!) and he has referred me to the midwife who I see next monday for my booking in.

I had to go straight from the docs to the dentist and have a tooth out so I am feeling a bit sorry for myself

My symptoms are easing up a bit and I dont feel as sick as I have done (not sure if that is good or bad though) I havent had any pain or cramps though so hopefully my body is just adjusting to being pg.

nuttygirl · 12/01/2009 17:37

Another thumbs up for Spatone . After I had dd I ended up on painkillers, iron tablets then also lactulose for the constipation and ended up saying "sod all the bloody doctors" and took spatone instead and never looked back.

Feeling stressed here. Am still not fully well and not eating a huge amount of food. Also getting pains across my tummy (though I think it's probably from the puking). I just wish it was time for my scan so I could know things are ok but it's still 2 1/2 weeks away . Feel like I'm not eating enough for the baby and my bump is definitely smaller than first time around.

readyfornumber2 - ouch to tooth removal
zorra - at the wrong dating scan

Good luck to those of you having scans soon.

VerifiedLU4097 · 13/01/2009 08:48

Nuttygirl- you have a bump?!

Picante · 13/01/2009 09:04

I'm in maternity clothes and am 9 weeks today. I got some great stuff - all the online maternity stores have got sales on. I did think it was jinxing things but I realised that was silly and I couldn't carry on with just one pair of jogging bottoms.

Anyone else got a toddler and feeling guilty? I've felt so sorry for him - watching so much tv and not being half as active as before I was pregnant.

babylanguagelearner · 13/01/2009 09:36

Noticeable bump developing here too, and only 10 weeks. Must wear loose fitting clothes while it is still meant to be a secret ...

Picante, I also have a toddler but am loving the fact that his existence stops me from obsessing about this pregnancy like I did last time around, there simply isn't enough time to ponder everything/google everything etc like last time! Although today as I tidied up his toys for the milionth time I did worry what my house will look like when I am too big and tired to bother!

a big wave to everyone generally and hope all is well

amelied · 13/01/2009 14:02

Hi Girls

Just back from my scan and things aren't looking to good.

Last Tuesday's scan, going on my dates I would have been just starting my 9th week. The embryo was measuring 3.3mm with a heartbeat. They dated me at over 6 weeks.
Scan was booked for today to see how things were progressing. I measured 4.8mm today but they were struggling to see a heartbeat. Another sonographer was called to give a second opinion and she saw a heartbeat but not very strongly. Anbther scan has been booked for next Tuesday but everyone that has saw me today has started their sentences with "not wanting to give you false hope..."

This is my 3rd pregancy (2 miscarriages) and I cant believe it maybe about to happen again. I dont know if I am strong enough for this.

Thanks for listening.

mamamila · 13/01/2009 14:34

hi amelied, just wanted to send some support, i know it's easier said than.. but try not to spend every moment worrying. there's a hearbeat and the embryo has grown so there's every reason to hope that all will be fine and next week's scan will confirm this. take care girl!

MichaelaS · 13/01/2009 15:53

hi amelied, sorry to hear things are not looking positive. Like mamamila says, at least they found a heartbeat and growth, so all is not lost yet even if it's not looking great. try not to worry about it until you know for sure one way or another - so many people have bad scares and go on to have healthy pregnancies.

hugs

BumpVLump · 13/01/2009 17:18

Oh amelied,
You poor thing. I cant begin to think how you feel. One miscarriage for me was devastating enough. Like the other girls said, try to have hope, and even if it doesnt work out it will one day Im sure.
Anything you can do to take your mind of it, do. Sending you happy thoughts xx

nellyup · 13/01/2009 17:41

Hi all. Not been on for a while but have suddenly started feeling a lot less sick having reached 11 weeks and much more human. Only read the last page of posts but amelied I'm so sorry to hear about your problems, I hope you are managing to get through the time till next scan.

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one digging out the maternity clothes already! I thought my bump was unnaterally large for 11 weeks. So far I've managed with normal jeans during the day but comfy joggers as soon as I'm home for the evening. Gonna have to get dh to hoick everything out of the garage at the weekend though to find my bag of maternity gear though.

OonaghBhuna · 13/01/2009 17:43

Hi Amelied, I send lots of hugs and I will keep my fingers crossed.
