Not that it'll even BE November by the time we run out of space on this thread...

Don't know if it is a boy or girl. DD is called Lucy which really suits her. I like girls names to be quite girly. Also as dh, dd and I all have short names would prefer to stick to that rather than having one really long name. Part of the problem is that some of the names I would have used last time round have become really popular round here and I want something a bit different but not outlandish.

For boys I like
Leo
Shay
Rory
but Dh is not keen on them. He thinks the first two aren't full names.

MonkeyMargot · 22/10/2008 10:49

Rutho Yo! Yo! Am feeling to-taaaly STREET today. Not sure why. Getting down with the kids n that!
Ditto - I will be giving my parents a photo of Mini-MonkeyMargot for Crimbo aswell. Got to really. I decided it was going too far to have bespoke Xmas cards made with family portrait on cover though.....although there is still time!! Ha ha - maybe I could get a job lot of really bad taste mouse mats made? Whadya reckon?
Looking forward to going to Quaglino's for my leaving luncheon with my chums - but work is going tits up for me today - loads of last minute issues which I could do without. Grrrr....don't they realise I'm winding down?!

sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 10:50

Leon then? I think Lucy is a lovely name too (it is on my list should this one be a DD!) Sorry not much inspiration this am, will have a think...

sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 10:55

LOL at the new street MonkeyM!!

I am ALL for bad taste at Xmas! You could get commemorative plates too haha!!

Yes it is a conspiracy but somehow mandatory for issues to crop up on wind down week....

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:02

Sparkle you mean I've got to keep this level of action up for the next 3 weeks? Oh dear, I may have painted myself into a corner, metaphorically speaking...

Anyone else absolutely shattered? I feel so tired and heavy...

OP posts:
MonkeyMargot · 22/10/2008 11:03

OOh - I like Clara. It reminds me of one of my fave childhoold TV programmes, "Heidi of the Hills". Clara was in a wheelchair, and then one day, in a "miracle" type scene, she gets up and walks, and the wheelchair rolls over the cliffs! It was V.dramatic!! That programme had THE worst dubbing in the world!!!

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:06

I think Peter pushed the chair over the edge of the cliff because he was jealous of Heidi spending all her time with Clara, or something, Monkey. And then they had to get her down from the mountain somehow. Or the healthy mountain air and large quantities of goats cheese worked miracles or she got a ski lift back down.

I loved the theme tune, though.

OP posts:
MonkeyMargot · 22/10/2008 11:09

That was it Rutho!! God, it was good wasn't it? Best theme tune ever. I can do a brilliant impersonation of the dubbing - but we might never meet...

mum2becks · 22/10/2008 11:10

Morning all, it feels exciting this morning waiting for baby news!! Does anyone know what time MM is having the twins??

suiledon have a few suggestion, my DD has quite a long name so I have been choosing longer names but a few shorter names that come to mind that I quite like -

Boys - Noah, Zak, Jake, Alex

Girls - Ruby, Rose, Amy, Eve, Mia

Got 38 week MW appt (am 38+4) this afternoon so will update you with any news later!

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:14

Sorry, loads of posts missed then, told you I was tired. C'n I have another coffee? Baby Saurus seems unaffected, tbh.

Monkey, you put us all to shame with your innate connection with the yoof of today. No knife crime, though, ya hear me? Innit. And no joining a girl gang in your condition.

Chocorange my tummy does that all the time, I think its extreme sports Braxton Hicks (Monkey would say its because it's a hard knock life here in the hood).

Chocgal, attempting was the right word. I think a sense of humour and a LOT of pillows are the way forward. Or sideways . I'm just glad there were no witnesses.

Naff baby souvenirs - I did my mate a photo mug of her beautiful son looking gorgeous for her Xmas pressie last year but I had smashed one of her other mugs on a previous visit and she needed a mug no-one else could nick at work! Plus she had just lost her DH to cancer in September and little things like that seemed cheering - a unique present that you can also drink hot chocolate (or red wine) out of...

OP posts:
sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 11:16

LOL at Heidi, I LOVED that too, what a memory tho Ruthy!!

I didn't keep any action going until my DD week last time but you know the rest... (it worked)

Oh yeah notice to EVERYONE if you got a photo driving licence in 1998/9 do you know you need to update the photo after 10 years (i.e now) or risk a fine of £1000?? Just thought I'd share that with you...

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:21

Suiledonnn, not been ignoring you, just percolating names in what passes for my mind at the mo.

We have decided on Finlay Benjamin Richard if a boy and Phoebe Rowena Jill if a girl.

Here are some others we bickered like hell over discussed:

Eirik
Daniel (DH is still mourning the loss of this name and is insisting on it for a future son)
Thomas
Christopher (both our dads are called Chris)
Arthur (shot down as soon as it stuck its head above the parapet, I'm afraid)
Zachary

But what about:
Conor/Connor
Calum (I know, Scots rather than Irish but I loved it)
Liam

Ruby
Rose
Maia/Maya
Jemima
Niamh
Aisling
Tallulah
Abigail
Amelie
Sophie
Ser afine
Madeleine

(I have a really boring name IRL, can you tell? The girls names are all wish-fulfilment...)

OP posts:
ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:22

PLEASE someone tell me I can have more caffeine here! Tell me doctors now insist on more than 2 cups a day...

OP posts:
Pinkali37 · 22/10/2008 11:32

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I have to be here unfortunately Lack of staff. Although yesterday I felt at my worse and looked it too! I am trying to slow down but I feel so sorry for DH who is just up to his eye balls with work (shouldn't really complain in this day and age).

Does everyone get BH? I'm not sure whether I have or not. My tummy doesn't feel like it is contracting but it does every now and then go harder.

suiledonn · 22/10/2008 11:39

Thanks for the name suggestions, definitely some nice ones here.

Rutho I have a name I quite like but it was extremely popular when I was growing up so always several in my class in school and I think it makes me rebel against anything too popular now. I don't know if I am just overthinking it. I love Calum and Noah but at the Mother and Toddler group I go to with dd there is one each of these. Is this enough of a reason not to use a name you like?

I love girls names like Abigail, Emily, Annabel but Dh doesn't like them at all.

sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 11:44

Pinkali Oh dear big hugs, that is awful for you and think you have every right to complain in your condition. You do need to take it easy tho so try and find ways (ready meals/take aways and to hell with housework etc) to make life easier for you and ensure you get good rest when you get home after work...

I didn't notice BH last time and only noticed this time after taking RLT, they have calmed down again tho and don't notice them so much at moment...

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:46

BLOODY POST OFFICE! Ooh, the rage!

A different postman has called today, still no parcel . But he gave me a card with the number to call to get through to the Sheffield delivery office and the number directed me through a load of options and then cut me off. I called complaints and they can't get through either and say that Sheffield aren't answering internal emails.

I have a vision of them all holed up down there in town like Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon as it all goes tits up around them.

If you'll excuse me I'm off to email an ebayer who is probably wondering why I haven't left her any feedback...

Gah!

OP posts:
sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 11:48

Suiledonn other children at toddlers with a name I liked would def NOT put me off. It is hard enough to think of names! I would only draw the line at family/close friends...

Betti · 22/10/2008 11:53

Morning all

Just checking in for MM news. God she must be so excited.

Anyone else sick of being asked 'you still here then?'
I'm only 38 weeks today so I could in theory have another month to go. Some people make you feel like a failure because you haven't given birth when they expect you to!!

ruthosaurus · 22/10/2008 11:56

Hi Betti, not 'alf, love. Get me out of here!

Suiledonn, I agree with Sparkle, loads of kids are called Finlay but I don't mind - I just like the sound of it.

I knew a feller once who changed his name when he went to uni as he ended up in a shared house with 5 other Daves, but that's a bit of an extreme case.

OP posts:
sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 12:00

LOL at the 5 Daves!!

sparkletoes · 22/10/2008 12:02

In fact if it was 5 other does that make it 6 Daves??!!! Good grief!

suiledonn · 22/10/2008 12:05

I see where the Dave is coming from though. When I was in uni one of my housemates answered the phone and said it was someone for me. I proceeded to have a long conversation with the person at the other end as it became clearer and clearer that we hadn't a clue who the other person was. Turned out she had dialled a wrong number but happened to get a person with the right name.
