Calling all pregnant ladies in Blackheath/Manor Park/Lew

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet AND being a mum ? this is my first!! Am only 15+3 weeks. I live in Blackheath / Lew and was wondering if there are any pregnancy groups that I can join / attend other than the NCT classes (I might be too early for those classes?). Just a gossip coffee on a saturday morning with people in the same boat would be nice!

I often catch the train from Blackheath St and wonder if there are any other 15 weekers on the platfrom just getting over morning sickness!!

Im very accessible to Manor Park too.

Would love to hear from anyone

Em

OK I think that general concensus is that a pub lunch at the railway, usual time of 1pm is best as its a bit gloomy. Please text anyone you know was up for today so we don't have any chilly people languishing in the park feeding the ducks on their own. We'll have to wait for the sunny weather to reappear before we have a picnic! See you all later.

feb80andthebump · 11/06/2009 09:34

Good plan, let's say The Railway from 12.30pm then to save wet grassy bottoms. See you there.

helpivegottoggivebirth, congratulations! Sounds like you had a great experience. You'll have to change your nickname now, how about hurrahigavebirthanditwasokay?!

feb80andthebump · 11/06/2009 09:36

Oops, messages crossed in the post. 1pm is better for me, not even properly out of bed yet haha. Glad you can make it too daisyj, be good to catch up.

Midwife has just been round to deliver home birth pack. Eeek! I'm not looking...

daisyj · 11/06/2009 10:01

Feb80 - just texted you. There are mysterious things in the home birth pack. It took me two weeks before I looked, and then I was none the wiser.

daisyj · 11/06/2009 10:05

Hi all. I'm looking for a gardener and thought that you local people might be able to help. It's not for anything very creative, just someone to do a couple of days for us clearing the garden and hacking down the lawn, etc., so we can actually use it. We just don't seem to have the time, and keep starting the same bit over again and never getting any further...

Ellora - I think Becko thought you might know someone...

feb80andthebump · 11/06/2009 10:12

As there have been so many new arrivals recently I thought it would be time for an updated new list of who's left cooking. And then I totally freaked myself out by seeing that I'm at the top. Please add names if I've missed anyone off (preferably above me!!)

helpivegottogivebirth Congrantulations on baby Polly...I nearly chose that name too!

Sorry I have read this so late as I would have loved to come to Railway...next time (again!)

helpivegottogivebirth · 11/06/2009 17:46

FEB80 - i just want to let you know - it really wasn't that bad!

I remember lucidly thinking through a contraction towards the end "shouldn't the pain be making scream by now?" and frankly it was really manageable. I only used paracetomol for most of the early stuff and then g&a when i was about 8 cm gone till the actual birth.

your body does amazing things when it needs to!

And when the baby pops out... well, it's just incredible.

I am sorry i'm gushing a bit, but on such a high (and only 7 hours sleep spread over 3 days...)

xx

Feb80 - and even if it's a bit of a nightmare, you'll still probably turn round a week later and say you would do it all again. My labour was 50+ hours and lots of interventions, and I did!

daisyj · 11/06/2009 20:43

help - your post made me . I actually enjoyed most of my labour too. I wouldn't say it was painless, but it was pretty amazing, and reading your post made me feel quite nostalgic. Powdoc - am with you on doing it all again.

feb80 - you looked fab today. I realised that my joke about a stripey blancmange may not have been appreciated, so I just wanted to say you looked great!

BumpMakesTwoAndABit · 12/06/2009 17:37

hey all, wow, what a lot of things have happened recently! Congratulations to help and rie, and anyone else I've missed.

Good to see various babies on Tuesday - there are plans afoot for a repeat performance next week, similar time, if anyone's interested. I think there may be a few more people though, so the tentative plan is Paul's patisserie, mezzanine, Greenwich maritime museum, at noon (to give those of us still diligently attending aquanatal a good amount of time to get our shoes and socks back on...). Chances are we'll be there from around 11.45ish. Again if you have my mobile it would be great if you could let me know if you want to come, any changes to the plan will then be notified!

Hope to make it on a Thursday at some point too but for the moment I'm still persevering with the yoga classes. Getting less and less out of them, however...

feb80 - no, I'm afraid you're definitely before me and I have no intention of queue-jumping!

feb80andthebump · 12/06/2009 22:48

daisyj - I've been called worse than a stripey blamanche... Maya's face was so funny, she couldn't quite work out the big pink blob in front of her! Thank you ellie732 for the plastic sheets (hubby pleased carpets won't be ruined by homebirth) and thanks becko for the book which is a good read so far.

bump - I'm keen for aquanatal and lunch on Tuesday. My only dilemma is parking. It's 2 hrs max on Maze Hill which doesn't leave enough time to do the class and go on for any decent amount of time afterwards. Does anyone know what the maximum stay is at the car park over the road from the Arches? cazinski - will you be coming too... long time no see!

powdoc - 50+ hours? Eeek!

Powdoc · 13/06/2009 08:32

Feb80 - there's a pay and display car park just across the road and down a bit from the Maritime museum which I think is ok price-wise if you're not parking for too long. I'll try and check it out if I'm passing over the weekend.

The labour was fine. Bit of a nightmare at the time, but I can honestly say that, even if I knew that the labour would be exactly the same again, I would still do it all again tomorrow. Well, actually maybe not tomorrow, but only because I couldn't cope with the two babies. Have such new respect for mums of twins!

snapple · 13/06/2009 10:58

Hi everyone, feb80 mentioned this thread.

Can I join in.

I am due the end of Oct 09, my first, so am at the half way point (although I keep getting told my bump looks like it is at least 6 month along). Is anyone else due around then?

I live in Greenwich and would like to hook up with some local mums and mums to be.

Powdoc · 14/06/2009 21:36

Hi guys,

I have been talking to a few people who have been looking for an exercise class that they could do with their baby and wouldn't rely on the baby lying quietly in the pram (like the pilates, etc, do). I thought I would let everyone know that I have been in contact with Urska, who runs the baby salsa classes in Blackheath (website here).

You do the class with the baby in a sling, which I am hoping means that, provided DD does not need feeding or changing, I stand a chance of making it through a full class without missing anything.

The classes are £48 for six weeks and one class is transferable (i.e. if you are away for a week or whatever, you can defer that session to a later date, so you don't need an unbroken run of six free weeks). Alternatively, you could pay £10 per session.

I have a bit of an ulterior motive here, as the classes aren't running at the moment due to low numbers (presumably the credit crunch strikes again), but as soon as there are five confirmed people they will be and I want to try and shift some of that baby weight. You can email Urska through the website if you're interested.

cazinski · 15/06/2009 11:55

Hello hello!

Yes I'm back...and feeling pretty huge now! Thanks to hooking up with Bump at our NCT class, and after we realised that we'd spoken on here months ago, I'm back in the swing of things with the meet ups.

Feb80, I'll be at the Arches for aquanatal tomorrow, so will be great to catch up with again-it's been ages, although I have kept an eye on your growing bump on Facebook, you're looking fab I must say.

Big congrats to all the recent babies...awwwww! Well done Help, loving the name too-and I'll take heed of your story and keep repeating to myself..."it doesn't have to be that bad, it doesn't have to be that bad..."

Ok, enough waffling, and I'll see a fair few of you tomorrow at Aquanatal and later to stuff our faces silly with cake!

cazinski · 15/06/2009 11:59

And I meant to say, Snapple-yes yes yes come along to one of the next meet ups, or classes, if you get the chance. Would be great to meet a newbie, being due in August I was always the last in the line, although I'm scarily moving up the list! xx

AmbaRickards · 16/06/2009 14:04

Hiya,

I am new to Mumsnet and am due 11th August. I am interested in meeting other Mum's to be and other new Mum's.

Wondered, if I could join in the chat and any meet ups you may have.

Also, Congrats to all Mums on their new arrivals!

AmbaRickards · 16/06/2009 15:53

Realised I already know a few of you from NCT and Antenatal swim.... Those usernames are a real disguise!

ToastnHoney · 16/06/2009 22:08

Hello all - sorry I missed you today and last thursday. Hope all well, exciting to hear more and more bumps are turning into bubbas!

If anyone is around on Thursday afternoon, some of us will be hanging out at Cutty Sark pub in Greenwich from 3pm if the weather is fine. Hope to see some of you there!

xx

rie1 · 17/06/2009 15:30

Hi Everyone
Now I have a baby and not a bump Im looking forward to meeting you all for a picnic on Tuesday. It'll be my first outing on my own as Jonathan will be going back to work on Monday so may need you all for moral support when I attempt to breast feed in the big wide world.
Elena had a speedy arrival on the 6th June. I ended up having her at QEH as there were no midwives to come out and check on me when waters broke. We popped in to the hopsital with intentions of coming straight home and filling the birth pool but ran out of time to leave the hospital as she was born so quickly. No time for pain relief but I had a good experience and the pain was no where near as bad as I had imagined it'd be. As a punishment for such an easy pregnancy and labour, it took three hours to deliver the placenta and the stitches part wasnt great but I'd do it again without any drugs.
Having great fun getting to know her now, its so weird to think that two weeks ago I hadn't met her but already it feels like Ive always known her. Im really enjoying it!
Feb80, how are you?
x

feb80andthebump · 17/06/2009 16:51

I'm loving all these positive birth stories, keep 'em coming!

Rie1, it sounds like you are a natural Mum already and I'm really looking forward to meeting Elena on Tuesday. Sure there will be soooo many nice things to do over the summer with all the bumps and babes that you will barely notice Jonathan isn't around.

Tupperwife, I can't believe how much tupperbaby has grown! But then I am also shocked that it was way back in February that he was born. Hasn't the time flown by!

Great to meet more bumps after aquanatal yesterday and see a few familiar faces. Have a good week everyone! x

elk4baby · 17/06/2009 17:53

I'd like to join you at the pub tomorrow.. err... what's 'Cutty Sark pub'? Is that the one right at the Cutty Sark Gardens, next to the Starbucks and the Green Baby shop (across from M&S)?
