Aaah, I get you! Well, no, doesn't refer to me then, my vices are of the more traditional sort. Interesting theory though.

I used to be a smoker up until about 6 years ago, haven't touched any since and can't stand the smell these days at all esp since being pg. But over the last week I've had 2 or 3 dreams where I've been smoking a cigarette for some reason and then, suddenly, am desperately needing to get the taste out of my mouth & feeling massively guilty for harming the baby. Bizarre, huh?

Cote Interesting theory! I have certainly done my fair share of "dabbling" in my partying past and had not even 1 minute of nausea with DD1 so would seem to support the theory, but then was sick as a dog with DD2 so it goes out if the window! This time around I'm just having the odd wave here and there, so not sure what that means!

spangle I had terrible constipation with DD1 and some with DD2 but it did only last the 1st trimester really, and was a lot better after that. Seem to have avoided that this time round fingers crossed. That's funny about your dreams - I was a smoker too until DD1 but in every single dream I have had since giving up I have a cigarette in my hand - and sometimes like you it is so real I wake up cross with myself thinking I really have!

lindso · 10/10/2008 13:30

afternoon ladies

can i join too. due 29th may - had scan today at 7 weeks (previous miscarriage) and all good, heart beating away. have a 14 month old dd and slightly terrified about what I'm letting myself in for...

alapala · 10/10/2008 15:21

curious theory Cote and who knows?! What I would like to know is if different symptoms mean different sex for the baby. never felt this sick with DS so wishful thinking says maybe its a girl.. Also the worst thing for me was the 2nd trimester of migraines all the time, could do with avoiding those.

citybranch · 10/10/2008 15:55

Hi, i joined a while back but have been lurking rather than posting...felt too nervous after previous mc. Well had early scan at 7 weeks and saw hb so now feeling more optimistic.

MS very bad & i now wish i'd 'partied' a bit harder years ago..lol. Honestly, anything not to feel this sick!

Does anyone else feel that their DH/DP is never really about when the sickness is worst? I'm sure my DH thinks i'm making it all up because he hasn't witnessed it yet!

Fryn · 10/10/2008 16:12

Hi everyone,
Haven't been on for a while, and what a lot of catching up I've had to do! Have been feeling utterly dreadful, but had acupuncture last night, and feel a whole lot less dreadful today, and after a jacket potato with hummus and carrot sticks, and, er, a Magnum, I'm feeling in tip top condition!

spangle the acupuncture seems to have done wonders for my constipation too (tmi -sorry! it's amazing the things I'm willing to mention online that I'd never discuss face to face with anyone!)

I wanted to ask when everyone's had their booking in appointment? I've just been sent the date and I'll be 12 1/2 weeks by the time I first see the MW. Seemed a bit late to me, but was wondering if anyone else is being seen so late?

Jools1 · 10/10/2008 16:15

I was told I wouldn't get a booking in appt till 12 weeks, but was amazed to get an appt for Monday when I'll be 7+3 ! Most people seem to be around the 8 or 9 week mark I think ?

I'm a first timer with a high BMI and perilously close to 40, so maybe they see me earler because I'm high risk

runningmonkey · 10/10/2008 16:34

Hi all,

Feeling a bit more human today. Actually managed to get some sleep last night after going to yoga which was good.

jools how exciting about the scan, I don't know how I'm going to wait another 5 weeks for mine.

spangle I've been suffering with constipation too, No advice but commiserations.

also re wierd dreams - I dreamt all my front teeth fell out and I had to teach my classes (teenagers) with them all laughing at me. It was so real, I had to feel my mouth when I woke up!!

Have a nice weekend everyone.

frazzledoldbag34 · 10/10/2008 16:53

Hi all
Am also very constipated - ususally settles down at end of 1st trimester for me.
Have had a pretty good day in terms of hardly any nausea - so nice not to feel awful all the time! Bet it comes back tomorrow. Surely 9 wks is too early to be feeling properly better? Am not going to worry about it though having seen the wriggling bean yesterday.
Having a craving currently for smoked salmon on bagels - yum. And celery dipped in hummus. Delicious
Have nothing more useful to say now so off to make macaroni cheese for the kids tea.

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 10/10/2008 17:00

Interesting Frazzled, I am also 9 weeks today and feeling a hell of alot better than I did yesterday! Had to go hospital yesterday, they think I may be Lactose intolerant as well as already being allergic to wheat/gluten! But Im also concerned that maybe I've had a MMC or something because literally feel completly different today, Im a bit of a worrier and having read lots and lots of stories on here so I've probably done myself more harm than good
I'm thinking about maybe getting one of those Dopplers so I cna hear the heartbeat, but Im worried if I have one I'll become all OCD with it and carry it everywhere and be forever checking it and turn into a bit of a mad women, what does everyone else think? Already had booking in appt at 6 weeks and have an appointment for 10 weeks with midwife an scan is on 30th Oct, CAN NOT WAIT!

hello all.... been lurking not posting since i signed up.

detsy i know just what you mean re wondering if you'll feel the same about dc2. dh is hoping for a boy because he doesnt think he can love another girl as much as dd .

had been sypmtomless til last week. then dh out one night and i batched cooked some stews to freeze for dd's lunches. ugh.... been feeling awful and sick ever since but worst of all when i give her the food.

moved to a new are recently so changed doctors and going in wth my pregnancy is my first experience of them. rang on a monday and was told i couldnt get an appoitment til a week weds. when i went to that apptmnt, dr told me i had to make an antenatal apmnt with one of the other dr's. these only happen on tuesday afternoons. went to book one and they couldnt book me for the following tues so have had to wait a fortnight for that. its next week - i reckon i will be 8wks by then and i rang at 4 wks . has anyone else heard of having specific antenatal appointments with dr's? my last surgery i got handed over to midwidery team immediatley.

SpangleMaker · 10/10/2008 18:57

Relieved to hear the constipation tends to go after the first trimester. Good to know acupuncture can work, will consider this if things get really dire. Been reading about how common piles are in the 3rd trimester but I think I'll worry about one thing at a time!

Had some good news today at work - been asked to lead the set-up of a change programme for our directorate. It won't be any more money but fab experience (if I even care about a career after May!) and something I will really enjoy. Plus I get to ditch most of my current work which I have been less than enthused about lately. Apparently they expect the project to last 6 months which will last just until I go off on mat leave (though I plan to leave a bit earlier using annual leave, but can tell them that later!).

Am now wondering when to tell them I am pregnant. I'm thinking of waiting a few weeks until the project is set up so they don't panic and offer it to someone else - is that cheeky do you think?

Hi eberyone
haven't posted for ages as DD2 managed to breakmynew laptop by pullingoff shelf and then rippingoffmostof the keyboardletter by letter and only just got it back after £100 repair.
11 weeks today and still feeling sick but medication keeping me going. Have had my booking in appointment and waiting to hear about a date for my 12 week nuchal scan.
Anyone else got a feeling/ guess as to what they are having I feel like this baby is another girl Can't wait till my 20 week scan to find out. Completely gone off the name i used to love if it is a girl and my husband agreed on and now love something else. Hope he likes it but haven't daren't say yet in case he thinks its awful.
If its a boy the poor child could well end up nameless as DH seems to dislike all boys names

detsy · 10/10/2008 20:14

Spangle well done and congratulations! I'd keep quiet till you have something in writing at least or you are on with the new role for a few weeks. Interestingly this is the area that I work in as well (as does llaregub too) small world hey!

Wouldn't worry about 3rd trim piles - post birth piles are far more "interesting"

Nikkie in my opinion I would avoid the dopplers - they sound great but they just don't work properly. I got one to calm myself last time - could only hear swishing of my intestines (TMI), panic set in and ended up going to hospital in a real tizz Nothing was wrong at all but they did say they see lots of mums as a result of these. I took mine back and got a refund. I also don't think you can use the ones you can get in shops till later on either.

Lemon cheesecake calling me now, ciao bellas

MrsEvs · 10/10/2008 20:56

Congrats spangle that's great. My sis is also in change management - I'd never met anyone else in that field before and here there are 3 of you!

Agree with Detsy, Nikkie there were times when even the docs took a while to find the heartbeat in both my prev pregnancies and think it could end up worrying you more than it puts your mind at rest!

Can't say I have any feeling about the sex of the baby, but with two girls already would be really shocked if it was a boy!

pulapula · 10/10/2008 21:52

I bought an "angel sounds" monitor from ebay during my last pregnancy. I could always find the heartbeat but sometimes it would take a minute or two and a bit of panicking. I did find it reassuring and would use it most evenings, but once baby was moving around (20+ weeks) then I didn't need it anymore. So not sure its worth it for those few weeks.

As for sex of the baby, with my first was sure it was a boy (as were most people), but out came my DD. Then my 2nd pregnancy was very similar so I would have expected another girl, except we found out at 20 weeks scan that it was a boy.

I have no feeling about this one although think i would like another girl. DD (nearly 4) would like a baby sister (she doesn't know about the PG yet) and DH thinks a boy might be better so that DS (15mo) has a playmate as DD is very independent anyway.

My MS has stepped up a gear (7 weeks pg now). Used to feel a bit queasy now and again- now its all day long. Sickness bands don't seem to help much.

Is anyone else doing stinky bottom burps?. Not sure if its just my weird diet! Also get top wind when I lie down at night, but thank goodness, have never had heartburn so seem to be OK in the middle bit

Jools1 · 10/10/2008 22:03

Ooh yes - I'm 7 weeks today and the stinky bottom burps in the evening are disgusting I did wonder if it was my diet, but you've made me feel better !

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 10/10/2008 22:10

Pulapula when did you start using your doppler?
I thought most couldn't pick up the heartbeat til 20 weeks???????

pulapula · 10/10/2008 22:18

Nikkie- I think I started using mine around 15 weeks but think it could be used from maybe 12 weeks (I didn't buy it til that stage) when it seemed like an age til my next appointment! Could hear the heartbeat fine, but it was a bit of a pain as you had to put gel on your tummy too.

CoteDAzur · 11/10/2008 07:05

Good morning everyone. I'm feeling off again this morning. The small bowl of chocolate I just ate suddenly feels like a mistake. I've also completely gone off coffee, as well as coke which I haven't touched for a few weeks now (both very un-Cote).

Those of you who had their first scans - do you remember the heartbeat rate? I had read somewhere that girls' hearts beat much faster than boys (generally), and that a heartbeat of around 160-170 bpm means a girl. It worked for DD It would be interesting to write down those heartbeat rates now, and then see if sex of the baby confirms this.

SpangleMaker · 11/10/2008 09:51

Morning all

Cote they didn't measure the heartbeat at my scan, just confirmed there was one. From time to time I think back and wonder if it wasn't as fast as I thought it would be - but that road just leads to paranoia so I'm not going down it. Have my nuchal scan next week so will check & we'll see!

Detsy I think I will wait a few weeks until I've started things off before telling them I'm pg. I guess as it's my first I won't get a proper bump for ages tho am already looking like I ate more than my fair share of pies!

I'm not really a change manager but have led a couple of business improvement projects which I think is why they picked me... so I may need to come to you and llareggub for some advice

i seem to have dissapared from all the lists! im due 26th may

Jools1 · 11/10/2008 11:29

Morning all. Just got back from the gym !! I managed a legs, bums, tums class and then my normal dance aerobics class was being covered by a jazz dance teacher - really good fun

I'm getting quite worried about my lack of symptoms again - no nausea since Wed, near normal energy and appetite etc. My boobs are still sore, and I wake up wide awake in the early hours, but that is about it. I think I'm going to the loo more, but not consistently - went from 11.30 - 6am without getting up, but then had to go between gym classes, which I don't normally. I can't bear the thought of going to a 12 wk scan and finding a blighted ovum - ie I will have had all the symptoms but the embryo will not have grown - keep hoping that an increasing need to pee and a "who ate all the pies" tum means something is growing in there !

Jools, try not to worry... I know how you feel - I've been worrying on and off all week as my symptoms don't seem very strong! I think, though, the nausea is less frequent now because I am eating better and more often. If I don't eat, I do start feeling queasy and have to eat something straightaway.

I spoke to my acupuncturist the other day who's a midwife too and she said not to worry about not having too many symptoms; I was worried because before I miscarried last year I felt really queasy all the time and had really sore boobs, but not like that this time, and she pointed out that I don't want to be feeling the same as last time anyway - and all pregnancies are different anyhow.

This morning I had to get up for a wee about 5 times between 5 and 9. I then started worrying in case I've got diabetes!!

I need to calm down...

xx
