Laura - Welcome and congratulations!

Momino · 09/10/2008 17:08

welcome alapala and congrats. I did the same with dd1 when i was pregnant with dd2 - itng reminds me of dd1 now even though she was still a bit young to care about watching tv, I certainly relaxed.

divedaisy really don't know how you have time/energy to run your own business. I work from home for a charity who expects me to cram five days of work into three and think this is stressful - but still nothing like managing your own business. am very impressed!

now off to get my two little girls from nursery, the little angels. just not sure if i have any energy left for dinner, baths and bedtime stories!

stanosauruswrecks · 09/10/2008 18:19

Hello, may I join in too please?!
I had my scan today, and am 8+3. (so due 18th May I think..) We already have one DS who is two and a half. Have shown him the 2 scan photos that we got, he thinks one is of a mouse, and the other is a flowerpot..
Feeling quite tired, and getting the occasional wave of nausea. Look forward to getting to know you all better!

Overtiredmum · 09/10/2008 18:31

I can't believe how long the list is getting!?? Its so exciting!!

Had my booking-in appointment today, all went well, same MW as last time, who is lovely. She is trying to convince me to go for a home birth............... ummmmmm am too scared for that I think!!

Glad everyone else is OK.

SpangleMaker · 09/10/2008 18:39

Welcome alapala, lauralou and stanosauruswrecks (love your name ) May is certainly a popular month!

Frazzled fab news on your scan - congrats to you and your perfect specimen!

Another vote here for Cote to host a thread meet-up in Monaco

Well I am definitely suffering from pregnancy brain. On several occasions over the last few weeks I've had to ring, on my way home, a colleague who works later than me to ask him to put my forgotten shopping in the fridge, etc... Today I got on the train and could NOT remember locking my laptop away. Fortunately I had, but I just couldn't remember doing it at all (since am in public sector would be in SERIOUS trouble!). Phew

I bet when I tell people at work there are a few who think 'aaahh, that explains her mad behaviour' (well hopefully, perhaps they won't be able to distinguish from my normal ditziness).

Hi everyone this is such a big thread. May is a great time for new babies! I had my booking in antenatal appointment this morning and I liked the hospital and the midwife. Its a different hospital than with DD as we have moved. The midwife said I should wean DD off breastfeeding but I was going to keep going. Doesn't anyone have any advice about this???

Rubysmom08 · 09/10/2008 19:23

hi guys wonder if you could help.... I had my scan yesterday and I had some morning sickness before I went it and because of my pelvic floor being shot I always need to wee at the smae time anyway had a very empty bladder.

My last period was on 16th August and I got my first BFP on 13th Sept which was the date of my next period which was due.

My scan yesterday only dated the bean at 7 weeks and it was 8mm. The scaner said everything was fine etc and that my chance of miscarriage had decreaded etc.

I thought I was nearer 8 weeks how can this be a whole week out? I'm worried now

detsy · 09/10/2008 19:31

Hi All
Naughty today and "worked from home" keeping DD with me - hence nothing at all done on the work front! Great to spend some extra pink squishy blonde time with her. I've aleady started to wonder how on earth I'll love DC2 as much as I love her - does any else on 2nd or more child think this or am I just a nutter??

Febes - god well done on the bf - i only managed 3 months so not qualified to be handing out advice on that one - sorry!

Finally given in and asked DP to hoick himself into loft and dig out my maternity gear - I cannot find any new maternity shirts for love nor money from anywhere. Just want some cotton shirts for work that aren't super smocks - anyone got any pointers?

Re mush brains - i put cranberry sauce on DD's toast the other day and didn't realise till DP mentioned it, then I couldn't stop laughing for ages. She ate it anyway - poor thing.

Feeling v lardy but been bouncing about dancing with DD for most of the day and then Dp took over and did baths etc when he came home - bliss..

No symptoms here but not worth worrying about as being pragmatic and thinking what will be will be. Having said that I have dating scan on Tuesday and lectures about my age and will be glad when its done so I can have a peep inside myself again.

Off to put some comfy slobby gear on - have a pleasant evening all x

detsy · 09/10/2008 19:35

Rubysmom sorry crossed post

Could this be due to later ovulation than you thought as not always smack in the middle of the 28 days even if you have a 28 day cycle. I'm sure that's all it is and the important thing is that little bean is in the right place and doing well! I think i'v esaid before that I was told if you have a good scan at 7 weeks then the chance of carrying to full term increases to 95% so pretty good odds. This is what I keep placating myself with anyway.

Pls try not to worry - be happy

llareggub · 09/10/2008 19:39

febes I'm still breastfeeding DS who is 2 this month. There is no reason why you have to wean your little one just because of pregnancy. There is a support thread on mumnset somewhere for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding. I'll see if I can find it later and link to it.

bekkaboo · 09/10/2008 19:40

RUBYMOM08 just to say my period same day and im at 8 weeks tomorrow, the scan date is more acurate apparently as it depends on when conceived??Last time my date came forward 2 whole weeks, which I new was impossible as had only been trying 2 weeks!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 09/10/2008 19:43

Hi Febes not done tandem feeding myself dd2 has just self weaned at 15 months but if you post on breast and bottle feeding I'm sure that there are loads on here that have and MW is not correct in saying you should - you only do it if it's right for you and your dd!

MS really kicking in here, desperate for a sleep thi pm so put the girls in theoir respective rooms had about 1/2 an hour on my bed and got up to discover dd1 had been "sorting" her drawers........ then spent the next 1/2 hour tidying!

Just a quick one as have to go an tell one of my dsis's that it is not ok to give my crossover baby vests to her mate ....as I'm going to need them back

Ps hi to all the newbies so many but great to "see" you!

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 09/10/2008 21:37

Can I join the list too pleassssseeeeeeeeee xx

MrsEvs · 09/10/2008 22:47

Rubysmom I am certain all is well. It may well just be that you ovulated at a different time as others mentioned or your bean is just small but perfectly formed - they are good at this stuff now but it's still not an exact science or all babies would be born on their due dates!

detsy I remember feeling exactly like that when I was pregnant with DD2 - then felt guilty about thinking it! It's just totally part of getting used to the idea and I think most people feel it at some point.

Febes No advice I'm afraid. DD1 flat refused to BF, so I pumped every bottle she had until 41/2 months by which time I had RSI and could do no more . DD2 took to it like a duck to water but lost interest at 10 months. Seems like you've had some good advice above though, can't beleive you can't go on if you want to.

Uggghhh I'm full of cold today and feel like dog poo. DH has been away all week on business too so I'm extra knackered.

Welcome NickieMadisonandbump!

CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 09:14

Good morning everyone. Another lovely day here, and everyone is out in their t-shirts and even some in bikinis. Sending lots of sunshine your way

Detsy - The immense love I feel for dd is the only reason I dared get pregnant again after her horrific birth and the torture that followed. In fact, I enjoy this pregnancy more than my first because now I know how much I will love this baby (sometimg I was sceptical about during 1st pregnancy)

CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 09:19

rubysmum - Same thing happened to me at dd's early scan. There was only one day she could possibly have been conceived, and yet dr dated her a full week after. No matter, she went on to be one of the biggest babies that maternity had seen in a long time, born about 9 pounds and 52 cm.

Dating is just not an exact science. Really, there is nothing to worry about.

Jools1 · 10/10/2008 09:21

Good news Frazzled [grin}

Cote I am soooo of you at the moment !!! I only had one week away in the sun in July - it just wasn't enough !!

Not much else to report here - nausea has packed up and left - for how long I don't know - am happy it has gone but, of-course, starting to obsess that it means something is wrong !

CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 09:25

Jools - There are times when I miss living in a big city (like, when we want to see a movie but there is nothing good in the ONE movie theater we have) but not when it is so nice and sunny

CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 09:30

My nausea has eased as well. I'm sure it's all fine.

I'd like to do a quick poll to check something I was told the other day. A doctor friend said that those of us who don't suffer (as much) from morning sickness during pregnancy tend to be those who... errm... 'partied' quite a bit at some point in our lives. True in my case

Anyone else?

umamimama · 10/10/2008 09:36

Morning everyone

This thread has been moving so fast, it's taken me ages to catch up.

I've been really struggling with morning sickness the last few days, it has been constant day and night.

GreenFingeredMummy - I noticed we share stats on the list, DD will be 2 on 28 May. She is not walking yet but can crawl away from me a great speed, particularly if I approach her with a clean nappy in hand.

Febes - I am still nursing DD and intend to tandem feed. The pregnant and nursing support thread llareggub mentioned has some good advice
here

umamimama · 10/10/2008 10:19

Cote - I don't think its true in my case. But maybe my morning sickness would be even worse if I hadn't... um... 'partied' - I can't bear to think about it.

SpangleMaker · 10/10/2008 10:29

Morning all

Cote not sure if you could say I 'partied' heavily but was a student for a long time and certainly like my wine I have had some nausea when hungry but very mild, no danger of actual chundering.

I was wondering if you get more of the symptoms you are prone to, IYKWIM. I've never been a 'sicky' person. OTOH I do - TMI alert! - succumb to constipation when stressed/bad diet etc and have been suffering from this already . Does anyone know if this goes in the 2nd trimester or is that it for me until May?

Oh the joys of pregnancy!

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 10/10/2008 11:52

Spangle - This guy was referring partying with... ehem... 'recreational chemicals', which leads to hormone surges in the brain. The first couple of times, you are sick (very briefly). Then your body adjusts. His point was that your body will then be much less susceptible to nausea as a result of hormone surges during pregnancy.
