How on earth did you manage to fit all that stuff into a holdall? I have a suitcase for mine and DH stuff and a small holdall for lil bob's stuff, which is jamed packed, maybe I've packed too much. will I get laughed out of labour ward if I turn up with a suitcase???
Congrats DG and Debi.
Had a phone call from MW today they have to pospone my ECV until thursday afternoon, not too happy about this as had all arrangements made. But may give him a little extra time to turn himself, bless him hes trying so hard, but cant seem to get past my hips.
eandz did you realise that sperm can bring on labour?? and think you should be insisting on some antibiotics, the green discharge and fever sounds a bit doggey to me.

Lollipop I have a H&B and another independent health food shop very near me, which I'm going to try on wednesday for clary sage oil. If neither of them have it, I'll try for some bath oil from boots with it in (apparently even really low doses can have an effect), or online. I'll let you know if I have any joy getting hold of some!

Debs DP and I got into the habit of condoms from when we were first together until we started trying (about 2 years of condoms!), as I really don't seem to cope well with any kind of hormonal contraceptive - get fat and lose all sex drive - but I may investigate something like the coil afterwards. not sure I can find space in our tight budget for condoms, tragically!

ninja · 01/09/2008 19:03

I wish someone had told me about the socks - I don't think I noticed (it wasn't a pool birth, but the photos looked awful).

I just seem to remember labour being so undignified I didn't care WHAT i was wearing!

I have to say though, what was bad was that I ended up with a ventouse and feet in stirrups (avoid that girls) and I asked DH to take a photo while I was holding dd. Well he's not good at photos and didn't just take a photo of me and dd close up, he got EVERYTHING in - from straight in front. Not a pretty sight, and embarrasingly I made a CD Rom of my baby photos for MIL and forgot to take that one out - ooops

Don't know what we'll do about contraception yet. If last time is anything to go by it won't be happening very often anyway after DS arrives! But last time I was hoping to get pregnant again quite quickly whereas we are intending to stop after this one. I actually found breastfeeding a very effective form of contraception, just when I didn't want it to be! I know the rules (baby under 6 months, exclusive BF at least every 4 hours day and night) but in my case I didn't actually start ovulating again until I had cut down to one feed a day when she was 10 months old (then I got pregnant straight away). I know this as I was getting periods from when I weaned at just under 6 months, so we used ovulation kits for a couple of months and nothing! Of course sod's law will be that if we assume it will be the same this time then I'll be pregnant again by this time next year!!!

notsoslimnow · 01/09/2008 19:14

this contaception thing is actually something im still undecided on! so what actually are the choices? and when do you need contraception from? ooh also im sure i once read something about a woman becoming really unwell from having sex too soon after birth.i think it was something to do with the uterus being open to infection or something??? anyone else heard this type of thing or know when its safe to resume?

eandz · 01/09/2008 19:14

notsoslimnow
we were told by our dr that if we wanted to have sex, condoms would decrease my chances of getting a last minute uti.

barnpot i think my green watery discharge and fever don't sound right either. but no one will return my calls!

Hello all.

Sorry to hear you have to go the neonatal unit poxtola but at least Lorea will be monitored closely for a couple of days. Have been there with my ds so am thinking of you xx

Really rubbish ante natal appointment today.....the baby has stopped growing - gone from top of 75th centile to about 35th in 2 weeks. Also fluid has gone up again (should be diminishng at this late stage)

Its all going to happen again...another tiny, sick baby...I cant do it. I cant.

Off for a cry.

Ponymum · 01/09/2008 19:33

debs75 The contraception question - I have been reading up as I am adamant that I will deflect any stupid questions from nosy midwives post birth. I have heard that no matter what you've been through with the birth, they will barge in and ask you what your plans are for contraception! So I have written in to my birth plan "We have already arranged post-birth contraception so there is no need to ask about this". If they try I will be very ! I am not 16! And if it was none of their business before we had a baby, why is it any of their business now?

As far as what we are doing, I think I would like to go back on the pill, but I heard that the actual choice of pill is determined by whether you are breast feeding or not. So intend to wait and see if we are successfully breast feeding or not, and use condoms in the mean time.

Pitufina · 01/09/2008 19:37

becaroo - I'm sorry to hear that. It still has time to do a bit more growing though, hasn't it? You can do it! You'll be strong for your baby.

QueenyEisGotTheBall · 01/09/2008 19:42

YAY!!! DG enormous CONGRATULATIONS to you and your DH on the birth of your perfect little boy i am thrilled for you my first psychic dream baby birth excellent news
xx ei xx

eandz · 01/09/2008 19:43

i think we'll be abstaining till i figure out what to do about bc, too. i'm not sure i want to be back on any pill since i conceived on the pill (several times on several different pills) ...the injection also didn't work out for me. so maybe i'll keep my options open till i'm ready to get back in the sack.

also, i think i want to be pregnant again within a year of this baby. (depending on how it all really goes of course).

jearund · 01/09/2008 19:46

Eandz if all else fails try the delivery ward. I am concerned about the fever because it's bad for the baby if your body temperature is raised (that's why you shouldn't have hot baths). That was the problem when DD was born - as I've said before on this thread my waters became infected after they broke and my temperature soared and they couldn't get it to come down. Because of that she became very distressed, hence the emergency CS. I don't want to worry you, just don't want you to leave it. It is just slightly up or quite a bit? Can you get it down with paracetomol? Definitely sounds like you need antibiotics.

jearund · 01/09/2008 19:48

Anyone - what is the 2ww thread?

Potxola - really sorry you have to go back into the neonatal unit. It's for the best though as at least then they can make sure Lorea is fine and find out why she's losing weight. It must be a worry though, not what you need! I'm thinking about you x

MunkiMom · 01/09/2008 19:48

becaroo
terribly sorry to hear of your news, hun. but i agree 100% plus, although it may not feel like you can, you will be ever so strong for this little baby!

if i prayed, i would. but instead, i'll send my most positive vibes your way.

jearund · 01/09/2008 19:54

becaroo you poor thing! What are they going to do about it? If s/he's stopped growing won't they induce? You're only 2 days off full term now so I can't see why they wouldn't if they were worried.

You CAN do it - you are stronger than you know. And you're right at the end of the pregnancy now - he must only have stopped growing at 35 weeks - just think, we have babies born way before that on this thread and they are all ok! Keep us posted.

Ponymum · 01/09/2008 19:55

becaroo I just saw your post. We are all here for you. Thinking of your LO and sending lots of strength to you both.

Please dont tell me you're all organised with hospital bag cos i'm not!

biglips · 01/09/2008 20:14

oh and i didnt wouldnt be able to know what sex it is as its legs was crossed!!

Sassafrass · 01/09/2008 20:16

Foxytocin, the health visitor is a lovely lady but has come out with some strange things before about dd1 being bilingual. Today she seemed worried that dd1 who is 3 only uses he and him for both men and women. She knows the difference between boys and girls fine, just won't use the right words =)

I personally think that 3 ounzes while breastfeeding every two hours and so, when the baby is not even three weeks old is pretty good. I'm taking fenugreek and that does seem to be working. My breasts feel a lot fuller now in between feeds. I'm just relieved really that she's gaining weight as it was worrying me and making me feel unsure about my ability to breastfeed Katie.

Debs75 · 01/09/2008 20:17

Poxtola sorry about having to go back into hospital with Lorea, Great name by the way, hope everything is sorted soon.

This is hopefully our last child she has come as a bit of a shock. Only came off the implant as weas told i had ovarian cysts, then they said i had endometreitis had a scan and there was baby. Don't want implant as i got quite fatter andbad periods, too forgetful for the pill and dh too much of a wimp for the snip.
