Sass, that her poo is now yellow is a good thing. But she needs to feed more often than every 3 hrs during the day at this time if you can. Some babies are more laid back than others and don't 'demand' as often. Try to shoot for every 2 hrs during the day and every 3 - 4 at night (say between 10 pm and 5 am)

I suggest that before she falls asleep you try breast compressions (google it) as this will get the hind milk out of that side. After you have done breast compressions, you can swap her over.

The HV cannot make you give her formula top ups. It will be no more useful than offering her more breast feeds. As long as her weight has not stagnated or fallen and is on the way up, you are on a good thing.

You may find this feeding log helpful. Don't worry about the week 1 log, just start with the week 2 and repeat week 2 after a week.

One last important word: I am a trainee counsellor so I cannot give you official advice on this sort of feeding issue. Phone a helpline to verify what I have said.

foxytocin · 29/08/2008 20:58

oh eandz much talk you have given us tonight. Good luck!

eandz it was only a little tickle for a week, in fact just over a week but I fibbed to the midwives about it as I knew they would try and induce me if they thought it had gone on for ages. I was on anti-biotics (to minimise infection) and given a later date for induction if labour didn't start naturally, which it did thankfully. My waters didn't actually break until they did an internal when I got to the maternity unit, when they go - they really go ! Just as well it was on a hospital bed really .

eandz · 29/08/2008 21:08

hmm should i be worried about not having any antibiotics incase i feel like waiting this out? it's really just a couple drops (but constantly)

is sex now really forbidden?

foxytocin · 29/08/2008 21:09

it is a good vibes namechange starlight. see, it may have already worked on eandz.

eandz · 29/08/2008 21:14

hmm i'm wondering who foxytocin is too... is it kiskidsee?

foxytocin · 29/08/2008 21:17

[snurk]

eandz · 29/08/2008 21:20

anyone else going to guess?

mamamufin · 29/08/2008 21:29

Hmm, I wonder {wink}

Gosh Eandz good luck with the water business. Its normal to have more lady discharge at this stage though (sorry tmi), so it could be that???
Oh pampers do the baby changing mats that are ideal for protecting chairs/beds in case the gush arrives

sass you are doing a fab job. Your baby would not be so content to sleep if she was hungry. As long as she has her alert periods and is not always sleeping.

Have a good weekend guys {smile] x

Sassafrass · 29/08/2008 22:04

Thanks for the good advice everyone. I breastfeed dd1 until she was a year old and never really anticipated having problems this time around. I'll definately call a bf councellor on monday if there is no improvement.

She took expressed milk from a bottle today with no problem when dh tried. She had a good breastfeed first, changed nappy, then the expressed milk, and then she fed for another 30 minute from the breast.

I like the log, I'll print that off and use it. I think one of the problems might be that I'm trying to do too much non-baby related stuff like taking dd1 out and cleaning the house instead of just focusing on feeding and sleeping.

Anyways, I finally managed to put a pic of Katie in my lovely gypsymama sling on my profile, if anyone would like to have a look and see it in action =)

foxytocin · 29/08/2008 22:08

she is so cute inside the wrap. yes, being busy with non baby related things combined with a laid back baby can make this happen. dare I say, try unwrapping her this weekend and do a lot of skin to skin in bed. and let dh take dd 1 out on sat and sunday and do daddy and dd bonding stuff.

Sassafrass · 29/08/2008 22:11

Sounds like a very good idea. I do feel a bit guilty for not spending enough time with dd1 but I keep telling myself that this won't last forever.

barnpot · 29/08/2008 22:12

I think that now most of us is on Mat leave we are chattering a lt more? he he
thankfully, my period type pain stopped during the night, so must have been just stronger braxton hicks.
Been shopping again this time with DH, who always manages to spend so much money on stuff. but have bought a ton of choccy for hospital bag which I might just go and 'Put away' now.
So happy that Poxtola and LO is OK, cant wait to hear of more arrivals.
ninja who asked about platlets, they are needed to help the clotting of he blood when the placenta is delivered to reduce bleeding, obviously if they are low, it takes longer to stop bleeding, hence greater blood loss. they can give you some platelets (like a blood transfusion) to increase your levels, while your in labour.

Not caught up yet, but definitely want to join in on the whole 'BF is really hard and the preparation is useless' thing. Just been reading Starlight's thread in feeding.

The BF (NHS) course I went on was the biggest waste of 2 hours of my life ever, 1 hour of 'BF is really good' (happy-clappy emoticon). Yes, we know, we're all here to learn how. Then 1/2 hour about latching and that was it. Nothing about how hard it is, how it hurts even though that latch looks right, how your baby needs to learn how too. Cue me earlier in the week panicking because neither me or Anna knew what to really expect. I'm very lucky in having a midwife who was very supportive and things are going better now - and lets hear it for Lansinoh!

Ok, rant over. Congrats to new Mums, good luck everyone else - not long now...

ninja · 29/08/2008 22:42

Hi Sassafrass I have a Gypsymama too - are they good? I can't wait to try it out.

Thanks for the info about platelets barnpot. Saw the mw today who's really keen to try and make sure I have a homebirth, she's going to do some more blood tests next week (I'll be 37 weeks then) and hopefully it'll have been a mistake!

mamamufin · 30/08/2008 07:50

Morning all

sass I just love the sling. However, I am already the owner of a ring sling and have ordererd a moby. I think Dh would flip if I brought another sling at this stage . Maybe in a few weeks he wont notice?
I too realise that I am going to have to spend alot of time breast feeding. I just camped out on the sofa for long perioda last time. But I know its not going to be as easy with a toddler too.
Happy saturday x

hopefully · 30/08/2008 09:12

Sass that sling pic is v cute.

DP and I ended up having the most ridiculous row in the world last night when I ended up hysterical because he fell asleep during the hypnobirthing cd (cue me screeching, "you're just not committed, you don't care" repeatedly at 11pm). I have decided I may be a little hormonal.

morning, mums.

eandz how are "things" this morning?

everyone else doing alrighty so far?

i know we've already gone on about this but, wow it's getting me soooo nervous as the "days left" number gets lower and lower...!!

ninja · 30/08/2008 10:05

Morning too!

A bit tired as DH came in from a night out at 4.30 am, proceded to clomp around the room, sit on the edge of the bed for 10 mins and when I asked what he was doing said 'I'm just thinking how I'm excited I am about the baby coming' (which was quite sweet!).

He then insisted on putting the mini-dvd player on (sound down) and of course fell asleep snoring loudly straight away but woke and complained when I triedto turn it off - cue more snoring.

I moved into the spare room, I guess we might have to get used to sleeping in separate rooms in a few weeks

mawbroon · 30/08/2008 10:07

Hi ladies. Some of you might remember me, I started the very first due Sept 08 thread, but didn't make it past six weeks.

I just wanted to wish you all the very best. Congratulations to those who have had your babies already, and "not long now eh?" to all the others.

And remember that MN is here for you all.

lollipopmother · 30/08/2008 11:01

Mawbroon - I wasn't on the original thread, but thanks for coming back to see us! I hope that things are looking up for you.

EandZ - I was under the impression that hind-waters tend to trickle, but they replenish themselves so there is no real issue, it is the front waters that gush and once gone the midwives don't like you to be more than 24hrs before they sort out antibiotics etc due to risk of infection.

Munki - When I still had my days left in the teens I was seriously freaked out every time I saw it counting down, now that it's into single figures I am just boooooored, the wait is doing my head in!!

Jearund - Thank you so much for your kind words about my freak out session over the sex of the baby, we've had two scans and both have said girl, that's why I've so got my hopes up.
