This is it!! Some of us have already started the descent into new BABYDOM. Best to arm ourselves with the facts. Here you will find the Signs of Labor. Just don't panic. Remember women around the world have been giving birth for ages. You are not alone nor will you be alone throughout this entire process. We are all here for each other no matter what. So let us go forward with heads high and bellies low.

This little quiz might also be helpful. Remember we are in this TOGETHER!!

Cyteen, you kept your distance from your grandfather. Obviously a healthy thing. {{hugs}} No sense now creating baggage with his name on it. Keep the disconnect and focus on the joys of your upcoming wonderful new giggly baby.

Poppy {{hugs}}. Your story reminds me I need to chat with DH about family visiting. ARRGH!

Well I have just emailed the family letting them know Reese Eleanor will be the baby's name. With DD we emailed on 19JAN and she arrived (early) on 18FEB. As I've said before 08/08/08 would be a great birthday (but really don't think it will be that far off). Just trying to keep the early arrival mojo going by sticking to tradition (since this will be the LAST time it will EVER happen).

Where oh where does the time go? About 10 minutes ago (ok, 4 weeks ago) I was in hospital and now look - 4 weeks have gone by in the blink of an eye!!!!!!

Just been to see my friend and her gorgeous 4 week old little fella, ahhhhhh .

TS NHS hospitals are generally very anti-kids being present at childbirth. I guess they obviously can't let a 4 yr old run wild during major surgery in an operating theatre and they don't provide childcare. Given the choice of leaving ds with my pissed-up sister or leaving him alone - I think he'd be safer on his own! (NOT that I would ever leave him alone you understand!!, just speaking theoretically).

great news for your section date poppy - only 4.5 weeks to go!!

Hello all, today is independence day! So DH is at home and we ate croissants for breakfast. Hurrah.

Buckets · 09/07/2008 16:59

CC I would go for the friends, your DS is old enough not to be a PITA and the one with the 3yr old will be able to cope, maybe even find him helpful! Honestly, people love to help out in this situation!
Otherwise, you could try your sis in an emergency while your folks travel down. Your DN is probably used to looking after her mum, she might love to have your DS over!

TwilightSurfer · 09/07/2008 17:19

Sazzles, there's no gold standard for name announcing in the US. Some keep it a secret (my cousin did) but I'm too extroverted for that. My family and friends are so spread out through the country that for me the name thing is a way of allowing them to be involved without being here by my side. They've all offered suggestions and given comments for the past 7 months so it's only fair to "spill the beans" as soon as the final choice was solid. PLUS it allows for some to get baby gifts ready...having the child initials or name put on blankets or burp clothes is a big thing around these parts (it's a Southern thing). Not that I expect anything.

Longway, Happy Independence Day!!!!

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 09/07/2008 17:21

The baby was hungry so DD and I went out for some take-out. She didn't get anything worth chatting about BUT I just devoured chicken with broccoli and steamed rice AND have started on this HUGE cinnamon roll. I'd only gained 25lbs as of Monday......might be pushing 50 by the baby's birth.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 17:28

poppy hope you're feeling more relaxed about it all now

TS lovely lovely choice

CC I agree with Buckets, people DO like to help out and sometimes all you have to do is ask - sorry am not closer.

Cyteen agreeing with everything thats been said, try to take the positives from this, time spent with your dad and drawing a line under what was obviously not a nice part of your family

annvan don't mind at all. Mum has been fighting various cancers for 6yrs now. It started with Bowel/Colon cancer for which she was operated on, then breast and lymph node which was chemo and radiotherapy; more ops for her bowel due to adhesions/blockages etc and they also found ovarian tumours which was more chemo. The last lot of chemo has not worked (and according to them they threw all the big guns at it) and where these latest tumours are operating would kill her and radiotherapy is no use

she has been in a weakened state since her first major op in 2002 but fought everything. They did a scan half way through latest chemo to find it wasn't working at all. They kept going just incase and scanned again only to find more tumours in her abdomen and lungs. She's also been getting genetic testing as there are very few who are this unlucky bless her.

Its all caught up with her and her kidney function is decreasing, breathing becoming laboured and whatever else - we've decided against another scan as all it will do is show exactly how riddled she is

right enough maudlin chat, dh having only been up the grand farking total of 3 hrs is now going back to work and leaving me with stroppy tired children so I hope to be back on later once they're in bed

am NOT giving them a bath tonight as I think that was the cause of the major fanjo pain last night, they can have one tomorrow when he's here

TwilightSurfer · 09/07/2008 18:01

Dizzy, you are a smart women. I see no need in daily baths for children anyway. Three times a week is fair enough unless they are truly nasty. Fortunately my DD love to SHOWER so I've not dealt with a bath in.... can't remember when. Good to let your DH handle the "dirty" work.

Captain, I've been pondering your dilemma. CSs only take an hour start to finish, usually. Would it be possible for your sister to come be with YOU while DH stays with DS (and watches her DC) until your parents arrive?? Then he could come and join you......

can you all indulge me in a rant please

dh was working a late shift yesterday which was 4pm - 1am only he got held on till 4am due to some f*cking numpties

I got up after a terrible night sleep (dd2 playing up and sore fanjo) and took the girls to nursery for 8am

spent day trying to catch up with our terrible finances/ paperwork; going to bank; doing a small shop; running dd1 to gymnastics etc all with feet that don't fit into my shoes anymore

am tired, have been worrying about mum moving to the hospice today and dd2 has only had a 20second nap so is on foul form

dh finally got up at 2.30pm when I stomped upstairs and woke him. he always gets up and sorts himself out with a nice shower/shave etc and saunters down the stairs where I am banging the pots and tidying up rather noisely

and he pipes up - having a bad day?

NO AM NOT HAVING A BAD F*CKING DAY am just shattered and would have appreciated some help before he had to leave for work again at 5.15 for another shift until 4am so it'll be EXACTLY THE FARKING SAME TOMORROW

4am till 2pm - thats fecking 10hrs sleep who on here remembers the last time they had 10 straight uninterrupted hours sleep - I certainly don't

I asked him would it have killed him to set his alarm to get up and help out

so off he trots to work with his tails between his legs (with the remaining piece of white chocolate cheesecake so no sympathies for him please) and will expect the same sleep tomorrow - BUT before he went we got the whole sob story of what had happened to cause him to be delayed on duty and yes, to be fair it was pretty shite BUT am not giving an inch on this one.

he has a hair cut at 12:30 tomorrow, which of course I had to arrange, and I've told him to set his farking alarm as I'm not his mother and don't expect to have to act like it

am now of course desperately trying to curb the urge to text and apologise for being a miserable stroppy cow

dizzydixies · 09/07/2008 18:11

Not really self indulgent. You have my full sympathies on this. sounds like a nightmare. There is no need to have ten hours sleep really is there. Ok it's fine if you haven't got kids. Tbh, if DP does that to me after the bumpy is born, I'll be ranting just the same way.

will you all send me one in the post once baby has been born please??!?!?

I think I feel guilty about the sleep as starting tomorrow night its his busiest week working 15 odd hour shifts at T in the Park

they really do expect a LOT of them but am poopered (and thats a very valid term you know )

Dizzy my DH is basically the same way. When he gets home he'll eat with us but then he seems to go off into his own world FORGETTING that he could take over DD care for an hour or so to allow me a moment. Four years and I've been doing the same routine each and every night but if I'm down for the count he has no clue how to: get DD to brush teeth, potty, book, bed, fill cat bowls with food and water. It's a 20 min process!!! That's it!! So please feel free to rant all you want.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 09/07/2008 18:38

OH and Dizzy...DH's weekends always ALWAYS begin with sleeping in till almost noon. UNLESS golf or fishing is planned then he's willing to get up at 5AM (that's TWO hours before he normally gets up for work). MEN!!
