Hatty i'm glad you have got the cottage for them that would have been a nightmare. I know what you mean it's good to have the babysitting but not so good to be on top of each other. We put my mum up in a local pub in Wapping (there wasn'tmuch else within walking distance) when she came after DS was born. we lived in a one bedroom flat and their would have been tears i'm sure.

DonnyLass · 23/07/2008 11:20

Just had 21 week scan -- we're having a boy. Sooooooooo excited

Beans33 · 23/07/2008 11:22

Oh congrats DonnyLass - that's brilliant! Boys everywhere at moment - must be something in the water!

LadyThompson · 23/07/2008 11:26

Glad it's not just me having trouble sleeping. I've had sinusitis since early pregnancy, I think that's what's been causing my headaches. Apparently progesterone can cause your mucous membranes swell and it doesn't drain properly and gets infected (nice). I get all the glamorous symptoms. My ankles look like hams most days and one of them has gone sort of purple. I knew pregnancy wasn't a glamorous time, but I feel like a pensioner. My DP said tactfully "Oooh, your ankle looks like my Dad's did before he died."

As for Christmas, dd is due Dec 3 but as I am having a CS she'll inevitably be born in November. In one way this is good as I will have a month to recover before Christmas, but I am worried it will mean our relatives, who are far flung, will expect us to spend Christmas on the motorway, as our gaff is too small to put people up. Sorry for the long moan! I just feel overtired today and a bit sickly.

Beans33 · 23/07/2008 11:33

bleugh. Just suddenly threw up. Going home to bed.

LadyThompson · 23/07/2008 11:34

Poor Beans. Everyone's poorly today.

Veggiemummy · 23/07/2008 11:43

Go Home Beans be gone, and beside pregnancy symptom sick leave does not count towards your normal sick leave check with your HR.

LT i can't believe your DH said that, i'm sorry but that sent me into fits of laughter at how incredibly the wrong thing to say that was.

Veggiemummy · 23/07/2008 11:45

oh congrats Donny so exciting, so nice at this time to hear how everyones scans have gone.

Beans i hope you managed to get to the loo in time.

Olipop · 23/07/2008 12:08

Hello ladies (especially including new ones!) ...Still no broadband at home so only catching up on the odd day I am at work!
I'm glad everyone is doing well ...subject to swelling ankles and stuffy noses!
God - my scan isn't until 21st August when I'll be almost 22 weeks. It feels like an age away. Starting to suffer from the dreaded heartburn so going to nip out for some Gaviscon soon. It feels early to be getting that....I'll be back to sleeping with a V Pillow before I know it!

DonnyLass yippee for a boy glad scan went well.
hatty that must be such a relief. I am also wondering what to do about people staying over around the birth/xmas time. We have a big house so no excuses there but like you say I don't want anyone under our feet at such a special/stressful time. Beans am in the same dilemma as it all depends on the timing as am due the day before you.
LadyThomson LOL at your DH's ankle comment ! Did he engage brain before coming out with that !?
Olipop I've had heartburn for a few weeks - it seems to come and go though. Aren't these symptoms just a joy !

JollyBear · 23/07/2008 12:54

OOoh there are lots of boys about! Congrats all

It is tricky planning what to do for Christmas this year, I don't suppose any of us are going to want to do much travelling with either massive bumps or new babies. Our tiny house means no overnight visitors though so that's good!

Thanks for all your iron related tips! I've bought some Floridax (sp?!) so will give that a go along with ploughing through iron rich meals.

Thankfully I haven't had any heartburn yet, perhaps the vomiting has to stop first . I do keep getting swollen ankles though, it makes my socks too tight at the top. ladythompson LOL at your DH! What a thing to say!

EffiePerine · 23/07/2008 13:01
SummerLightning · 23/07/2008 13:01

I have just told both sets of parents that Christmas is cancelled as far as we are concerned this year! But then we don't have kids already that will need looking after.

We will just have to go and celebrate with them later.

I wasn't really sure what heartburn was, until I got it last night, bummer, though it serves me right for scoffing down my food so fast, I think I may have to eat more slowly!

JamInMyWellies · 23/07/2008 13:04

Afternoon all,

my nose is sooooo stuffy I know you shouldnt really use decongestant nasal sprays but have become a mouth breather - yuck.

Is anyone else sweating massively am worrying about our holiday in a few weeks will be 30+ degrees am already melting I took the dog out for a walk yesterday arvo and quite literally sweat puring down my face. I am so attractive blooming and glowing my arse.

So cool to have another boy on the list its kind of making me want to find out what we are having.

So sorry everyone is feeling a bit crap sending get well vibes to everyone.

JamInMyWellies · 23/07/2008 13:07

Oh and re Chrimbo we have always told our parents that christmas day is for us as a family in our home, they are more than welcome to join us but it will be done our way. So they have stayed away but I think this yr my ma and pa might come for a couple of days but more as a helping hand as am sure this one will be late which will mean that the bub will only be a week or so old by Christmas.

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 23/07/2008 13:17

hi everyone, well I had my 20 week scan - all the major things fine - but the baby is rather tubby (2 weeks ahead on the abdomen) and they have booked me in for a GTT tomorrow, gahhhhh.

There always seems to be something - last pregnancy it was weird blood pressure so I was really hoping to have less monitoring and intervention this time!

Anyway DH keeps telling me not to stress but easier said than done...

LadyThompson · 23/07/2008 13:18

Jam, a stuffy nose for you too? Oops, can't we use nasal sprays?? I have had the occasional squirt...didn't know it was bad...oh dear.

If Artichokes is on, good luck for scan tomorrow afternoon. We're going out for supper somewhere posh after, either to celebrate or commiserate...I think DP can pay as well, after ankles comment...

EffiePerine · 23/07/2008 13:23

yv: hope the GTT goes well. Am not looking forward to mine next week. Seem to remember that DS measured on the large side at the 20 week scan and was a normal weight at birth (though later shot up to 91st centile).

chutneymary · 23/07/2008 13:27

Honestly girls, the GTT is not too bad. Lucozade not pleasant but it's not a huge amount and you get to sit and read a mag for a couple of hours .

LadyThompson · 23/07/2008 13:30

Errr...what's a GTT? Still don't know. When do you have it? Never heard of it and I am 21+1

theyoungvisiter · 23/07/2008 13:32

thank you Effie - hope yours goes ok too! I really hate things where you "pass" or "fail" - it's such mean language - makes you feel like you're a crap parent before you even start!

Chutneymary - thank you! Sob. Although I have been told that at the Whittington they use a beaker of warm glucose solution rather than Lucozade - shudder. Would far rather Lucozade!

I'm still throwing up occassionally so I am semi-convinced that after fasting all night and drinking a huge beaker of sugar I will just vomit all over the place instead.

theyoungvisiter · 23/07/2008 13:34

Ladythompson - most places don't do them routinely, only if you have some red flag like sugar in your urine or diabetes in the family.

It's a more heavy-weight screening test for diabetes is all - you have to fast for 12 hours, then turn up at hospital, they take your blood and you drink a sugar solution, wait for 2 hours, then more blood, then depending on the amount of glucose you either pass or fail.

I am slightly surprised I am having one now tbh, as I thought there was relatively little value in them before the 3rd trimester - but ho hum.

rosmerta · 23/07/2008 13:42

hi all,

donnylass congratulations on the scan!

Sorry to all those feeling ill, hope you get better soon. If its any consolation, ds woke up at 5.30am this morning so have been dragging myself around all day!

But we have a friend coming over this afternoon so I've got the paddling pool out & it should hopefully be a relaxing afternoon [fingers crossed]
