Hello girls...and welcome to all the new ladies.

Sorry I've not been around much. Feeling a bit low and decided to keep myslef to myself until I am feeling a bit more positive. Have been reading though and thinking of you all. My neighbour had a baby boy yesterday weighing 10lb 14oz . I had a cuddle today and he is lovely. She is doing brilliantly too, hopping around after her section. Home tomorrow.

Back soon, in cheerier form I promise

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 20:35

oh yeah i have to have runny egg yolk, when i had 1st preg i was told it was fine to eat eggs sunnyside up now they say it has to be hard. i reckon all this advice comes from men, who don't realise that we tend to crave and eat what we need, have an amazing sense of smell that will tell us if something is dodgy and if that fails our bodies will just make us bring it back up.

oh now i feel like eggs sunny side up with hash browns.

Indith · 02/07/2008 21:11

Blooming works for me I wish!

Hello veggie and Lady.

Veggie my ds never took expressed milk either, had to be straight from the source!

Beans so sorry for your friend.

Take care of yourself Chutney

I soundly ignore most food guidelines. Seafood by the way is very good for you while pg. Just not raw oysters I join you Jam on the pate and fois gras, I ate so much pate while pg with ds and off to France soon so I'll be stocking up! The perils of having family in the Perigord .Anyway you need iron while pg and having steak anything but bloody is just wrong

Ds did not nap and with Dp away I had to take him to Rainbows where he continued being very grumpy. Not useful with 18 girls and all my student leaders gone home! Got home late too with poor ds crashed out in the pushchair!

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 21:18

oh dear that M&S ad with the chocolate pudding with the sauce in the middle and the big dolop of cream, and now thats all i can think of. the closest i think have in the cupboard is some tinned fruit and custard powder.

hattyyellow · 02/07/2008 21:22

Ooh I like that thread title. I prefer plain ones too and that's happy and simple - well done Jam!

Turnip you poor thing - hope you're not too bruised .

Hello to all the new people - I'm 15 weeks and have been in maternity trousers for the last 3 weeks but I had twins last time around so my bump has just popped straight out again!

Chutney hope you're okay mate. Anything we can help with do let us know, sometimes it's easier to rant to cyberspace than people in RL!

.

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 21:36

it funny they get so upset about meat when lettuce and strawberries can carry all sorts of nasties. i'm veggie so i guess i'm not so bothered by the meat guidelines. i just find it funny they make such a big deal about it and try to take the desicion making away from us.

but then again they (the big all knowlegable THEY) are just trying to look out for our and our bubbies health.

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 21:57

oh that M&S ad was just on again, i'm straight there after dropping DS to nursery tomorrow morning. DH comes back from working away tomorrow so will have to share i guess. luckily they come in packs of 2 so will let him have half of the 2nd one.

mibbes · 02/07/2008 22:05

Love the thread name - well done Jam !
MMmm all this food chat is making me very hungry but getting heartburn so afraid whatever I eat will cause me pain The mention of McDonalds yesterday is so true for me too - I hate the place but drool whenever I drive past one ! I have been pretty anal on the food guidelines so far - being a paranoid first timer !
Have been in mat clothes now for a week (am approx 18 weeks now) they are bliss !
Got my blood test results today and low risk of both Down's and spina bifida - what a relief ! One less thing to worry about
Katie my SIL is due 3 months before me so we'll have close cousins too

waitinggirl · 02/07/2008 22:13

hello ladies - feel like i am gatecrashing a party i haven't been invited to, but i am due 21st dec with my first baby, so am trying to get as much info/support as poss. can i join in?

couple of questions: am 15 weeks now - due to 2 miscarriages last year, once we discovered we were pregnant again, the mw said not to do any exercise until after 13 weeks, not because the exercise might cause m/c, just so i didn't do anything i might reproach myself for later. so, the combination of no exercise, my normal tendency to gain weight given the chance, and my inability to control my apetite in the fight against sickness, means i have put on loads of weight. consequently i have no bump, i am just fat.

even though 3 weeks ago we saw a baby moving about on the scan, i am now slightly concerned that there is no bump, i can't feel anything, HOW DO I KNOW IT IS ALL OK???

i am sure other people have felt this way - any reassurance? am not due another scan until 20 weeks, at the beginning of august, so a while to go. i'm not going out of my mind with worry, but would like some reassurance, i suppose.

when should i expect a bump to fight through the flab, and when should i expect to feel something?

thanks

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 22:22

hello waiting girl, don't need an invite, i'm just ahead of you at 16 weeks 21st December was original due date but they adjusted it after my 12 weeks scan to 15th.

As it's your 1st could be a little while til you show, i had a friend who was barely showing anything until she was 20 weeks then suddenly popped out.

However not sure if it would help but some of the girls on here were saying that they have those dopler things that help you hear the heartbeat i'm not sure if that would help any other ideas.

also you won't feel much movement until at least 16 weeks and then it will just feel like butterflies and it also depends on how active baby is, i felt my 1st at 16 weeks but so far all i am feeling down there is wind.

hang in there and i know this probably sounds a bit silly but try to start enjoying it, your gonna have a baby!!! congratulations

waitinggirl · 02/07/2008 22:48

thanks veggiemummy (can't quite get used to these nicknames) - i saw a friend with her 1 year old ds yesterday and she said she could tell i was tense and not allowing myself to get excited yet.

i think once we get through the 20 week scan i'll let myself start to enjoy it. just trying to fight the paranoia with caution, i suppose.

glad i've found this thread, although i suspect i'll get addicted.

thank you!

Veggiemummy · 02/07/2008 23:00

just call me veggie, it's shorter to write.

i can't even imagine what it must be like for you.

oh i also meant to add about the weight thing i was 10kg heavier before this pregnancy than i was when i started this one so actually looked prenant before i was as it was all on my belly. So even though i am in pregnancy clothes now it is mostly so i feel my fat feels more comfortable.

katie3677 · 03/07/2008 08:08

Morning everyone and welcome to the newcomers. I did my first aquanatal class last night and thought it would be a nice gentle way of getting some exercise, not a bit of it. She had us jumping around all over the place so as a result I am aching a bit this morning, but it's a good ache - I keep telling myself!
I am actually starting to feel good about this pregnancy, DH actually told me that I was blooming last night, which is a rare compliment from him .
I am definitley permanantly in maternity clothes as my bump just popped over the weekend, but am loving the fact that I don't have to squeeze myself into my normal clothes any more.
Hope everyone is well and has a good day.

JamInMyWellies · 03/07/2008 09:07

Morning all, welcome welcome ladies and yes you will become addicted.

I did think I had felt the baby move but to be honest think it was wind

So the blooming and glowing has begun aka getting fat and sweating alot.

Someone mentioned dopplers, I know lots of people find them reassuring but to be honest I would be spending all day trying to find something and then be freaking out every 5 mins if I couldnt hear anything. Also I wanted one last time round and DP but a ban on me getting one to be fair I think it was the right decision. My DSIS is a midwife and she said it is nototriously difficult to find the heartbeat sometimes and can cause unnesesesry worry.

Lecture over.

Right must crack on off to mums and tots A seams to be better today and I am fed up of being stuck in. Have a good one.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 03/07/2008 09:35

goodmorning lovely ladies, that does sound like the better advice about the doppler. you sound like you have a good midwife you can always give them a a call (if they have a triage all call back service if you are concerned Waitinggirl) and you can always come onto here for moral support if your worried.

hey speaking of worry all those with DCs already so you remember the weird things you visualised happening to your baby, like i used to walked down the stairs holding my DS and suddenly imagine tripping down the stairs or dropping him. My husband used to be on high alert walking down the street with us cos he used to imagine random strangers suddenly trying to rip the baby out my sling or attacking me. I had another friend who actually changed her DS pushchair cos she thought squirrels would try to get into the chair to get at him. We do go a little crazy don't we.

oh and has anyone had the nosebleed thing, since last night my nose is just keeps randomly bleeding, quite annoying, the old WWW said it is normal at the beginning of 2nd trimester.

Flumpybumpy · 03/07/2008 10:23

waitinggirl welcome, and beware, the addiction has already started you just don't know it yet!! One post is all it takes and then you are sucked into a world of DH's DC's DS's MW's MNer's, you will even start thinking in abbreviations

Hope you are enjoying MN it really is a fab place to chat and sometimes let off steam, or in the case of most of us on this thread, wind!!!

Beans33 · 03/07/2008 10:31

I am slightly embarrassed to ask, but being a newbie, think I can get away with it: What do DH, DC, DS etc stand for please?!!

Flumpybumpy · 03/07/2008 10:36

DH - Darling/Dearest Husband
DC - Darling Children
DS - Darling Son
DD - Darling Daughter
MW - Midwife
MNer - Mumsnetter
DP - Darling Partner
XDH - Ex Husband
TBH - To be honest
IYSWIM - If you see what I mean
HTH - Hope this helps

Erm, can't think of anymore

HTH

Beans33 · 03/07/2008 11:12

You're a star, thank you.

Olipop · 03/07/2008 11:14

morning girls! Welcome to our new buddies...did you know there is going to be a london meet up on the 25th July???
Veggie - I know what you mean about random paranoia...good that you can relax a bit more now...think it isn't helped by sleep deprivation!
Dinner last night was lovely...didnt have prawns but did have haddock with a slightly runny poached egg...delicious! However, no starter and no dessert and still felt like a whale on the way home and had to sit near the loo on the train.
I've got my scan this afternoon!!!! Exciting!!! Trying to be excited and not fearful! I did have an early one a few weeks ago so hopefully it will just be a confirmation of previous good news!

JollyBear · 03/07/2008 11:15

Hello everyone,

beans What a horrible time your friend is having. Perhaps they need something to look forward to? If they have something planned like a weekend or just one night away somewhere it might give focus to his recovery. I hope your friend is taking care of herself through all this.

Re maternity clothes, my bump has popped out this week, I'm only 15 weeks tomorrow . My pre-pregnancy jeans/trousers are all massive on the legs and bum (thanks to the dreadful hyperemesis) so I've bought stretchy maternity stuff. I love the jeans with the elastic pocket bits, soooo comfy.

My boobs are having another growth spurt too. Can anyone recommend a supportive non-wired bra for the big boobed? All the ones I've tried just create an ugly mono-breast and give no shape or support. I am making do with an ugly sports bra at the moment as I'm finding underwires really uncomfortable.

I might also invest in the Davina DVD!

Beans33 · 03/07/2008 11:22

Oooh, I HATE maternity bras. Went to John Lewis and got 2 for £12 and they're fine. Went from a modest and manageable 34B to a 36DD in one fell swoop. Quite fun - DH (note use of new acronyms 0 hurray!) is loving it. Although no libido from me in return. Oh dear.

But I'm still squeezing myself into pre-pregnancy bras as they're nice and padded, so you can't see my nipples through them and they don't make my boobs look tubular. Or is that just me? Hoping for another growth spurt soon. I hear mothercare do good maternity bras. But I'm loathe to spend much more as reckon they're only goign to get bigger... Will wait until I HAVE to buy more!

Veggiemummy · 03/07/2008 11:33

i found Bravado bras good not incredibly attractive although they do at least try by having colours and designs other that black or white (they have a saucy leopard skin design they don't look it but are surprisingly supportive i wore them 24hrs a day later in my last pregnancy. Jelly i'm not sure if you siad this was your first pregnancy so you may or may not know this but later on your ribs extend out a bit (the things our bodies to accommodate these bundles, seriously) so any bra you buy will need to either have enough do up bits left to expand out some or as in the Bravado range (ya put em over your head no doing up around the back) the next chest size up than what you would normally get. However if you are really big i would just get bigger normal bras from somewhere like Bravissimo. I had a friend who was quite big and got really big and found maternity bras just didnt offer support so she ignored the no underwire rule, and just got bigger bras. Surely not properly support boobs are worse than using an underwire.

i ended up ordering a different fitness video than Davina but should be ok, so looking forward to it coming from Amazon, also ordered a pregnancy yoga video that promises to be better than the last load of dribble i bought, it was all making circles with your perineum and hips or lying flat occasionally and thats about it, not even breathing exercises!!

cococat · 03/07/2008 11:45

Morning everyone - and welcome to the newcomers - gosh its getting busy isn't it? How nice

Good luck for your scan today Olipop - I know how lovely it was when we had ours so fingers crossed for you.

I am also heading into stretchy clothes with a sigh of relief to be honest - although this is my first I am now 17 weeks and there is no kidding myself I am just "thickening" in the waist anymore LOL! I will be off to find some stretchy jeans at the weekend as am living in jogging bottoms and getting some strange looks at work

If anyone can recommend any good supportive pregnancy bras I would also love to hear about them - I completely understand what you mean about erm nipple "coverage" Beans - I work in a very male oriented place and its pretty embarrasing sometimes!

Finally can someone help me on another acronym I don't get - LO??!! Thanks, CC x

cococat · 03/07/2008 11:47

Ooh cross posted with you Veggiemummy - will check out the bravado range now - thanks
