I can pretty sure that you will have real babies being carried in those slings. I would love, love, love to go but cannot justify the long, expensive train ticket to London.

Enjoy ladies and .

eandz · 15/07/2008 06:46

kiskidee,
don't you have an amazing collection of slings already?

kiskidee · 15/07/2008 08:00

eandz
that is not the point. you can always revamp your collection. a lot of second hand trading happens in the sling world.

plus nothing like seeing touching, smelling and trying out new ones irl.

it is not too far off shoe addiction i think.

becaroo · 15/07/2008 09:18

kiskidee...you are a sling junkie!!

Just thought I'd update list, dd is 1 next week Can't believe this time last year I was still pregnant with her, very strange!

Have had amazingly awful weekend. Caught a sickness bug and was ill all weekend. Felt a little better yesterday so walked ds to school minibus, 5mins away, and nearly collapsed with the effort so ds2 didn't get to goto nursery. Same again today. I feel like death No energy nad can barely move. Just walking upstairs leaves me completely breathless and have now had 2 sleep deprived nights cos of this. HELPPP!

Not great as I have so much to do, including looking after said 11month old and trying to sort out her birthday party/presents etc which as yet I have done none of as we were supposed to be doing it at the weekend. Grrrr. Anyway enough self pity from me.

Love all you sling gurus think dp would go mad if I started collecting slings as well as the millions of other baby para we already seem to have accumilated, but will look into a few of those ideas though

Hope you're all keeping well

xx

hopefully · 15/07/2008 10:20

Poor you Womb! That sounds horrendous. Are you on the mend, or should you pop yourself off to the doc's for some drugs? I've been astoundingly lucky and haven't had so much as a cold since being pregnant. I'll probably come down with flu next week now...

Kiskidee your sling problem sounds like my clothes shoppin problem - I am already fantasising about replacing half my wardrobe when I (eventually) lose weight after the birth. So probable in about 3 years time.

hopefully · 15/07/2008 10:20

probably

LittleConnie · 15/07/2008 11:13

womb I hope you're feeling better, you poor thing

Pidge · 15/07/2008 11:31

Back on my bike for the first time in 10 days today having finally got over whatever throat virus thing made me so lacking in energy last week. I wouldn't say I was full of beans, but definitely much better. Anyway, I really noticed how much the bump has grown. My legs are now kind of knocking into it when I pedal!!

JennyLindinha - I've just noticed your hospital if the homebirth doesn't happen is Kings, which is true for me too. So we can't be a million miles from each other. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for another pregnant cyclist!

I only have two days in work this week, tomorrow is a half day working from home, so I can go and cheer on dd1 in her sports day. And then we're off for our fortnight in Cornwall and Devon at the end of the week. Can't wait.

jennylindinha · 15/07/2008 12:01

Afternoon all! Hope everyone is fine and dandy. I'm still recovering from the weekend and am shattered. We went to a wedding in Devon on a fab organic farm place where everyone was camping. The wedding was lovely, in a cider barn with a thatched roof and swallows flying in and out. I allowed myself some champers and then wine with dinner - delicious! Managed to stay up dancing til 2am then had to pass out. Woke up freezing in the tent at 5am only to hear DP in the distance drunkenly saying he was going to burn his suit on the campfire! When he finally made it to bed he fell into the sleeping compartment (on my head!) completely naked and I thought he'd burnt ALL his clothes in the fire - but luckily he'd just thrown them all off in the porch! Only the tie didn't make it back...

Womb, that bug sounds horrible. I hope you feel better soon and get some energy back for the birthday party...

Well done Pidge for getting back on the bike and glad you are feeling better. It's blimmin hard work though isn't it? Today I was even overtaken by a Darwin's Deli delivery boy on his huge slow trike! Where abouts do you live? I am really near Kings. Work in Kensington so head over to Oval/Vauxhall in the mornings. I'll look out for you! We can't be going too fast to miss each other, can we?

Am of your holiday. But we are going camping in Cornwall in August! Can't wait. AND I realised that I've only got 6 weeks left actually in work - yippee!

hopefully · 15/07/2008 12:11

Ooh, that sounds lovely jenny, exactly what DP and I are hoping for if we ever actually manage to get round to getting married (and if we can ever afford it! Need a hitherto unheard of wealthy relative to drop down dead in order for that to happen).

We've also just planned a camping trip at the beginning of august, I'm thinking I'm probably mad for contemplating it, but we've only used the amazing new tent a couple of times this year and I want more use out of it! Will probably go somewhere nearby, maybe near Corfe Castle, as I've never seen it, and it's only about 90 mins from my lovely hospital if there's any drama.

jennylindinha · 15/07/2008 12:27

It was a really beautiful wedding hopefully and in the middle of nowhere so you could see all the stars at night, even galaxies! I always forget how wonderful the night sky is until I get out of London. Mind you, it was very very cold because there were no clouds.

The place was lovely, woods to walk in, an outdoor swimming pool (yes - freezing, but I did go in!) and stuff for the kids like swings, a trampoline and so on. The kids were loving it. DSD had a fantastic time and we hardly saw her all day!

mama2bee · 15/07/2008 12:39

Hello everyone! Am very impressed that people are still cycling, I've started to slow up alot, especially with continuing bum pain! I'm going to Kings too pidge and jenny so we must be close by - I'll look out for any preg ladies cycling! Are you both doing NCT or NHS classes? Would be funny if we've already met but don't know it! Love the sound of all the camping trips, next year for us I think, plus we need to get a fab new tent!

jennylindinha · 15/07/2008 13:00

Hi mama, another sarf london girl, hurrah! I haven't started any classes yet. Have got the intensive NCT ones at the end of August in Brixton and I'm supposed to be going to Dulwich for the NHS ones but haven't heard anything about them. Mind you, I filled out the forms in March and the mw I saw then was horrible and she was the one that put me off the hosiptal so I wouldn't be surprised if they never got to where they should have gone. Better give them a call I guess.

Do go for the camping, it's great. Just get an airbed! And a tent with a big porch - in case it rains and you have to sit in it playing cards...

By the way, is anyone else getting awful cramps in their calf muscles? I woke up screaming the other night and DP thought I'd gone into prem labour! It was such a shock though and really hurt. I'm drinking tonic water before bed now as apparently that can help.

mustsleep · 15/07/2008 13:12

Yes!!
have had awful cramp and always in the middle of the night

normally it's just down the backof my calf but the other night it was down the side and into my ankle ... awful!! must try the tonic water thing have never heard that before

have started to waddle unfortunately now and feel really unfeminine when ever we need to go anywhere

now i just need to pop out to the bank and the shops

hopefully · 15/07/2008 13:16

I got calf cramp for the first time in years on Sunday - it was blardy agony.

I have definitely developed a rather tasteful waddle - one of the lads at work helpfully pointed it out - but I think it is more to do with my new problem of my fatty thighs rubbing together and me trying to avoid it! It's all glamour being pregnant...

I've been having post-pregnancy fantasies today about no longer being the size of a house and going shopping to buy a whole new wardrobe. I can't wait.

Sassafrass · 15/07/2008 13:25

Got my sling wrap in the mail today! It's beautiful and really soft. Can't wait to try it out with a baby in it. I also got a discount code for 10% and it said to share it. So here it is: J6082 It's valid to end of august at www.bebecannelle.com

Try this to prevent cramps, when you go up the stairs, go on your toes and let the heels hang down, this stretches the muscles out nicely and has helped me when I've had a lot of cramps.

Pidge · 15/07/2008 13:32

Hi mama2bee and jennyL - look out for a bulging woman on her bike in a fluorescent vest looking hot and bothered and cross!! I'm finding the cycling increasingly hard. Not sure I'll do it much longer. I'd been hoping to keep it going for the 3 weeks I'm working in August, but we will see. I cycle west to Clapham Junction so jenny our routes don't really overlap. And no antenatal classes for me this time round (baby #3!!), not that I know everything, just have no time what with two kids and a house and garden that is a building site with our kitchen work! I'm hoping I won't need King's either, but even with one homebirth behind me you just never know. I'm in the SE15/SE22 area by the way. JennyL are you now with one of the King's community homebirth teams? I think they have an east and west team? Or they did last time round - I was with them for my dd2. This time I'm with the Brierley, who have been fantastic so far.

I'm also having cramp - typically it's 2-3 times a night and I wake up dp hurdling out of bed and yelping and hopping about. It was particularly un-entertaining in the tent in Wales! Also I got it when driving on the way to Wales - thank goodness there was a layby right there to pull in to. I'm not looking forward to the drive to Cornwall this weekend. Bananas are supposed to be good - potassium I think. But also I have stopped taking any pregnancy multi-vits and was wondering about re-starting to see if that would help. I had this problem in my other pregnancies too, but I don't have any great cures!

mama2bee · 15/07/2008 13:41

Hi jenny - I must have been lucky then because the midwife I saw at Kings was lovely, but it makes such a difference doesn't it, if the one you see isn't very nice! I've been going to the NHS classes at Dulwich, so far so good, it's a lovely group, quite small too and will def keep in touch with one or two people I think... I haven't heard about the breastfeeding workshop though, need to chase them about that. Pidge I'm SE22 area aswell...

Cramp! Arrgghh, glad it's not just me. Also, was anyone else ridiculously hot last night, phew!

Pidge, I've not heard back from the MW at my GPs yet but I think she mentioned the Albaby team. I'm going to call this afternoon and see what is happening. Hope they can fit me in!

Mama - I have seen some nice mws at Kings as well as the horrid one but it's so hit and miss isn't it? I've heard good birth stories from people who had their babies there too, so if I can't have bibble at home and have to transfer I'm not too worried...

Thanks to others for the cramp tips. At the momemnt I just get DP to hold my leg and press my foot!

Ah, the Albany - yes, they are supposed to be brilliant too. They were another option for me this time round. Get pestering them though, as I've heard they get booked up very fast.

I had my first dd at Kings - about one month before they moved to the new wards. Anyway, I have nothing but praise for the midwifery care I got there during labour (the post natal wards were a different matter, but that's a very common experience, and I just wanted to be home at that point). Anyway, it certainly wasn't any problem with the care at Kings that led me to want a homebirth second time round and this time. Just that home is a better place to be for me personally - no commute whilst in labour (even 5 minutes!), able to labour in a more relaxed environment, and best of all being tucked up in your own bed afterwards!

DebitheScot · 15/07/2008 15:27

Got there... It's just taken me nearly an hour to catch up with everything since I was last on here last Wed. And now the fighter jet has woken ds so I'll have to go and get him up in a min and I haven't done any of the jobs on my list.

My brother's wedding was really good although I didn't relax properly all day (which I later decided was because I felt tense and emotional coz I hadn't let myself cry at the service) and ds got a bit tired and grumpy a couple of times which was made worse by the whole family helping annoying him by fussing round him to try and cheer him up when he just wanted to be left alone.
He looked very very very cute in his kilt, I'll put a photo on my profile soon.

We nearly had a drama on the way up (me and my auntie, ds and dh had thankfully flown up earlier that day) when we missed our flight. But it was ok as we got on the next flight which didn't get us there too late in the evening and also the BA woman took sympathy on my bump and let us go in the business lounge! It was great, I could so get used to that!

The wedding was Thursday and we stayed up there till Sunday and had a good weekend too. On Saturday we went to Aviemore for lunch and then went grass sledging, that was great fun!

Yesterday I was at an all day meeting/conference thing (on my day off) and today I'm shattered. I had a nap for an hour earlier but will still need to go to bed early.

Ok, can't ignore ds shouting any more, better go.

jennylindinha · 15/07/2008 16:49

Just realised I wrote "Albaby" instead of "Albany"! Guess what is on my brain at the moment...

Yes, my decision to try for a homebirth isn't really about the care at the hospital, but more about being in control in my own home and not being pushed into any interventions. Then later to be able to get into my own bed and DP to be there and not get kicked out!

Doh - the MW team just called me and I couldn't talk as someone was with me in the office. Am going to call them now - exciting!
