We need a new thread already better get thinking of names.

Lollipop the mf cant tell how much the baby will weigh they can only quess if it will be big or small by feeling your tummy but got mine wrong thought dd would be big around 8lb but she was only 6lb 7oz
only way to tell really is to have a private scan but they are not always right.

eandz · 22/07/2008 17:02

i was told last week my baby is 3lbs 3oz (but that was a guesstimate given by my doctor.) i had to ask though.

slinkiemalinki · 22/07/2008 17:08

They can't really tell lollipop as kiskidee says - the MW told me as I was bang on for dates mine would be 7-8lb - she was 6lb 9.5oz.
My consultant on the other hand did a scan just before she was born and he said 6lb 10oz. He was suitably smug!

slinkiemalinki · 22/07/2008 17:09

Becaroo, I am really sorry to hear about your BIL's friend... hope they are doing as well as can be expected, it must be devastating.

Sassafrass · 22/07/2008 17:12

I went for my appointment today and saw yet another of my consultant's minions. Dh and I are now convinced that she sits around on a golden throne, eating drinks and receiving reports from the doctors =) Anyway, it was all pointless, I said that while noone could tell me for sure if I had vasa previa again I wanted a c-section and the doctor grimaced and did a spiel about recovery time after c-section and so on. In the end, it was decided that we'll discuss it again tomorrow after my scan.

izzybiz · 22/07/2008 18:06

I had a scan at 36 weeks with Dd and they told me she was 5lb so by 40 weeks should be about 7lb, as they gain about 1/2 lb a week at the end, she was born at 38 weeks weighing 7lb 15 oz!

carrieon · 22/07/2008 18:09

jearund, I'm replying without reading other people's posts so sorry if there's any repetition. We're being given a cotbed for dd, but not until January, so she's moving in her current cot into her new room, and baby will be in crib, then baby will get dd's cot when she gets cotbed. She also is a night-time gymnast and we couldn't imagine not using grobags. I've read that being in a grobag stops them climbing out of their cot too, so there's no reason to use a duvet/convert the cot to a bed until they're dry overnight and needing to get up to use the potty, which might not be until they're 3. The lazy side of me loves the thought of her staying contained within a cot for as long as possible! So that's our plan...

mustsleep the Ikea Pax wardrobes with sliding doors are really nice

mustsleep · 22/07/2008 19:03

ooh might feel a trip there coming on

convinced dh to spend the day at home with me and dd today as i have just been feeling really knackered and it seems really hard to motivate myself to anything

turned on our telly we bought for the conservatory from ebay on sunday and discovered it didn;t work although it did when we bought it but it hasn;t been used since dh tested it at the blokes house - we discovered when he got home that the buttons on the actual tv don;t work but wasok with remote. my dad came and got it working as we thought it had just over heated but then this morning no picture again (although the sound is always fine ) . so we thought bugger it and have just bought a new one from currys got home tried the ebay one and now it works again strange?

have just had an awful nosebleed it was pouring out and just didn;t feel like it would stop! went on for about 20 mins i was spitting it out and everything - i hope this won;t happen all the time now think it may have to do with the low iron so i am going to be brave and start taking two tabs instead of one for tomorrow

i don't mind doing the new thread... just gotta figure out what to title it?

due sept 2008; one month before our first scheduled due date?

MummyToOneForNow · 22/07/2008 21:04

izzybiz - in my last pregnancy I had high blood sugar at 28 week blood test (had just had a glass of orange juice with breakfast) and they just did a fasting blood test rather than the GTT. (still had to fast overnight but at least I got the blood taken first thing then had breakfast rather than have blood test, drink sweet drink, wait 2 hrs, have another blood test then finally get to eat about lunchtime...)

Sassafrass · 22/07/2008 21:09

Mustsleep, has your bloodpressure been low? That can cause nosebleeds also.

lollipopmother · 22/07/2008 22:13

Thanks everyone for the replies re: baby sizes.

I got some reusable nappies the other day, I went for a couple of nearly new Motherease Sandy's and also got a wrap, they are seriously cute! I put them on my teddy, just for practice you understand!

Anyway, I'm addicted now! I've got some new Kissaluvs and two new totsbots coming too, all very good deals so I don't mind if they don't work out.

I've not been on the thread for a while, has anyone else got the nappy bug??

eandz · 22/07/2008 22:18

i want the little lambs reusable nappies but am debating which ones.. the microfiber or the cotton ones since i hear bamboo starts to stink or something.

digitalgirl · 22/07/2008 22:53

still undecided about nappies, have bought a small pack of biodegradable ones to take to the hospital. and we've bought a tommy tippee but not opened it yet, so we could still go and stock up on reusables and take the TT back...

Have had a very very busy day at work today, one of those days where you have loads of things to do, loads of people to speak to, but somehow you don't get any of it achieved by the end of the day even though you haven't left your desk apart from to go to the loo. and I was late for yoga.

Yoga calmed me down a little bit, but have just sent some more work emails out because I've got my women's day at NCT tomorrow. Really looking forward to it, it's the breastfeeding class.

DH rang up for my blood test results and I'm all fine. GTT fine, 28 bloods fine.

Still, I do wonder if I should cut down on sugary foods from now on so that I don't end up with a whopper. Both me and DH were 6lbs something when born, but that was 30 years ago before Magnums were invented. I don't want a HUGE baby. Do you think an active baby uses up all it's calories kicking and punching rather than bulking up? I hope so.

kiskidee · 23/07/2008 03:32

mustsleep I have bad nosebleeds if i get dehydrated. Try drinking more water in this weather.

I am also waiting on some little lamb nappies, eandz. Bamboo. I have heard in more than one place that it is microfibre ones that stink after a while. Bamboo takes longer to dry than the cotton and microfibre ones. They are the least bulky though.

A good friend of mine who had 2 in reuseables already (cotton) went for LL bamboo this time.

MummyToOneForNow · 23/07/2008 08:46

I'm using washables most of the time at home with dd (disposable overnight and when out) - a mixture of motherease onesize, tots bots bamboo (and had some little lambs cotton in size 1). When she was smaller I preferred the little lambs (seemed a better fit than totsbots which were a bit low in the rise) but we found a load of the motherease in an NCT sale so I am using them for that reason. Would probably go for the LL bamboo if I was starting from scratch (and might need some more size 1's for dc2 so planning some shopping - the motherease onesize seem a bit bulky on a little baby although are just right on dd now. Motherease airflow wraps are the business though.

MummyToOneForNow · 23/07/2008 08:53

lollipopmother - at my NCT calsses first time round they emphasised that the weight of the baby doesn't make a significant difference to the difficulty of delivery - the head circumference doen't vary that much between a 7lber and a 9lber, say. A heavier baby can be easier to birth due to help from gravity if you are in a good position. Having said that dd was on the 98th centile for weight and head circ and needed pulling out

hopefully · 23/07/2008 09:16

I've got tots bots bamboozles - I got given a few by a friend, and figured I may as well stock up on them rather than getting half one thing and half the other (less chanec for DP to say he doesn't know how to use them). They're really nice and super absorbant (from my tests pouring water onto them!), but I've heard less than great things about the wraps, so if they turn out to be crap I'll invest in some motherease ones.

kiskidee · 23/07/2008 09:19

new thread here

I just went ahead and made up a name without putting it to a vote as we are almost out of space.

MummyToOneForNow · 23/07/2008 09:26

thanks kiskidee - adding another attempt at link before the space runs out here

kiskidee · 23/07/2008 09:29

how funny. don't understand how I linked to a blank thread.

potxola · 23/07/2008 15:46

Kiskidee many thanks for the information. Iwill take the doc. with me. I had to hand express while my son was in the NICU,but I don't remember a thing aboit it. It was a really tough time, but I managed to do it.

jearound What worked for my son after sleeping only in cotbed and grobags was toddler bed or single bed with a duvet secured with DUVET CLIPS, GET THEM FROM jo jo maman bebe with the 10% discount. They are completely safe and the duvet does not move. I can't recommend it enough. trust me.
