Mustsleep, if you have 4 weeks to go they might just process yours in time. And if they don't, the lady on the phone assured me that it would be backdated.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with my consultant to decide on c-section or natural birth, I'm quite eager to hear what she thinks. Of course, on wednesday we have another scan and what we see on that might just take the decision out of our hands completely.

Hi all. To those of you concerned about MA, you may remember the faff I had a while ago. I sent off forms and rang after 3 weeks to chase as made redundant. Anyway sxhe said big backlog and they would contact me in 2-3 weeks. 2 days later all the paperwork came thru and I received my first payment last Monday (only 1 week but assume they pay it monthly in the middle of the month) Seems they are quicker at actually doing the work than deciding how long it will take!!

mustsleep · 21/07/2008 19:16

mel that sounds more promising

well we have just sonehow managed to blow the microwave up!! oops

we are in the process of wanting some new wardrobes too would love some with sliding doors and to get rid of the wardobe and drawers out of our room into what will hopefully be the smaller room once the walls are up- does anyone have any recommendations as to where to buy from?

i bought the gaviscon travel pack thing that looks like a smints box at the weekend they are much nicer than the rennie ones and seem to be working at the mo

i have been having hurrendous braxton hicks was up all last night with them and they have come back this evening too

can i ask a really really stupid qusetion? if i am having a hb and my waters have broken can i get into the bath to relieve the pain? can i use bubble bath and have a wash etc?

notcitrus · 21/07/2008 20:20

3 more weeks of work here - just had to redo all my paperwork as HR had lost it. I think I'll start packing my bag just to calm down MrNC - he's been getting rather stressed particularly with the builders doing nothing last week.

Squirmy's kicking is getting too strong for my liking! Bit of swollen ankles, and my pelvis and Squirmy object to me lying back on the sofa, so I have to be on my side, or on my gym ball. Annoyingly I got one that was too big (didn't know Argos sold 75cm ones), so I need a smaller one.

Weather is supposed to be nice this week - about time we had some more summer.

jearund · 21/07/2008 21:15

Carrieon Thanks for the sympathy. Glad it's not just us! Ironically though, we DID go with DH's parents and also his brother, sister-in-law and their 13 year old son. However, the parents were in a caravan 10 mins walk away and the others in a tent 20 mins walk away, so we didn't get the help we expected. When we go to stay with them we do get a rest as they look after DD but this time we found that because we weren't staying with them they just did their own thing and sat in the sun etc (when there was sun!) and if we wanted to see them we had to take DD round, but we always stayed with her - they didn't offer to take her to give us time off and we didn't like to ask as it was their holiday too. I think if we'd all been in the same caravan it would have been better but that would have been even more cramped and in fact it was them who didn't want to share a caravan in the first place when we suggested it! They already had their grandson as he didn't fancy sleeping in a tent with his parents!

I think your DD is about the same age as mine. We weren't planning on moving her into her new bedroom until DS moves out of our room (ie probably not before Xmas) as we'll be losing our spare room and we'll need it for DH's parents to come down after the birth. So we can't decide what kind of bed to buy for DD: another cot bed, a toddler bed or do we just put her straight into an adult bed? (of which we already have one so that's the cheap option!). What are you doing and what do other people think? She'll be 19 months when DS is born so by the time she moves she will probably be around 22 months. At the moment she's still in the cot bed and it's still in 'cot' mode. Also she sleeps in a Growbag - she moves around a lot and when we tried a duvet it was a complete failure. I don't know if that means she's safer still in a cotbed?

Have I killed the thread or is everyone in bed?

StarlightMckenzie,

oh haha! you'd have to be mean and evil to offend me. (i don't offend easy). plus, i was just lurking for horror stories anyway (to keep me in check). not the healthiest thing as of late, but i keep running into women who have had fantastic births and even my mother who had a terrible time giving birth everything seems to be roses.

no, no. don't worry. it's not a thread for someone who is scared of childbirth.

it's just that i was having terrible bh today and had to run into the labor ward on advice of my doctor only to be hooked up to a contraction and baby heart monitor and the bh were just awful! i'm thinking if my bh are this bad, that i'm not ready for labor.

notcitrus · 22/07/2008 00:57

eandz - my SIL1 and others I know said the BH were way worse than labour (and at least with labour you know it will all end soon and you get a baby out..)

Right, I'm really off to bed - antenatal class in the morning. Will be interesting to see what info we get on breastfeeding given the masses of contradictory info out there.

MummyToOneForNow · 22/07/2008 07:51

Jearund - my dd will be 21 mths when this one arrives and is still in a grobag in the cot mode of her cotbed. She is such a wriggler that we've decided that she won't be ready to move into a bed of any sort in the next few months so bought a basic cot at an NCT sale to see dc2 through the first year or so. When dd seems ready for a bed she will go straight into a full size single and dc2 will have the cotbed (in either cot or cotbed mode as appropriate). Can then put the smaller cot back in the NCT sale...

BTW you can get grobags up to about age 6 I think and I know a friends daughter at 3 and a bit is still in hers (has been in a proper bed for ages) as she would kick covers off.

meglet · 22/07/2008 08:50

eeew, I have DP's parents visiting today. So, obviously I am on MN instead of starting to tidy up .

I have got a good book on BF from the Library, it's very detailed and has checklists of what you need to do. It has made me realise that no wonder I had a hard time last time but made me feel a bit more optimistic about second time round. The book is called, 'The new bestfeeding, getting Breastfeding right for you, Mary Renfrew, Chloe fisher and Suzanne Arms'. Far far more thorough than even our NCT BF class ever was. Now I need to figure out how to get a bloomin' BF chair in our very small bedroom as we have nowhere for me to sit properly .

DS is teething again. Canines this time, but he's far less bothered than he has been with previous teeth, he must be used to it happening by now. I think he's waking up so I had better get organised. Hope everyone has a nice sunny day.

hopefully · 22/07/2008 09:26

meglet I admire your avoidance of the issue of iminently visiting ILs! I am still v cross with DP's dad who made a really rude comment about my step father on the weekend (they met a few weeks ago at a family party), so am planning on avoiding seeing that side of the ILs for a while.

Under 2 weeks left in work! I'm so excited. Although I think work are finally realising that not getting any maternity cover for me wasn't a terribly clever idea - it's suddenly becoming apparent how much I do!

mustsleep · 22/07/2008 09:45

morning all

looks like it's going to throw it down here all black clouds and overcast! although the weather did say it would be sunny

my mum and dad are suppsed to be taking us to the coast tomorrow (brid) but have given me the option to come or stay at home.i was going to go but now i have started with the bh's not sure it' such a good idea plus how many loos will there be

last day of term today so from now on no more rushing around every morning which will be great

Goldiewithabump · 22/07/2008 11:59

Hi all,

Very excited today, had a growth scan (32+1) and bump is estimated at 5lb 3oz at the moment. Ignoring the fact that means I will probably have a 9lb+ baby in a couple of months!

Head down and bum up, so almost in the right position. Really feel as though I can start with the count down now.

We are almost there! xx

biglips · 22/07/2008 12:24

goldie - i feel like im carrying a 9lb baby now!!...

well dd had finished her preschool and is off for 7 weeks (gulp!!!)...i so wish i had a summer baby so i dont have to drag myself to everywhere with my dd all thru summer!!!...i think ill go rob a car for myself or was i serious??

ive been ssooooo full of wind this week, as its disgusting and Dp wont come anywhere near me which i dont blame him as i literally gag on it!!

becaroo · 22/07/2008 12:46

Not much to report here...spent the weekend laying carpet and wood floor and spring cleaning....house now very clean but I am shattered.

Cot now up too, which is REALLY weird...I keep looking at it and thinking ..."There will be a baby in there soon!"

The changing table is too big for our bedroom so god knows where thats going to go

My BIL best friends wife gave birth to a baby boy yesterday morning at 20 weeks. He weighed 13oz. They called him Timmy
So very sad. Makes me feel ashamed about all my moaning...

My ds breaks up tomorrow for the summer hols...been dreading it, but actually now its nearly here I am looking forward to spending some time alone with him before baby arrives.

Jearund, sorry to hear about the hols...its such hard work with little ones, isnt it? We are off to north yorks for 4 days next week, but PIl are coming and will take ds off our hands for a while

Hope you are all well x

DebitheScot · 22/07/2008 14:20

that is very sad for your BIL's friend becaroo You're right, it does put things into perspective.

biglips I have bad wind too. DS thinks it's hilarious when I burp!

This morning ds told me to eat a spoon so that the baby would be able to eat the food that I share with it! How cute was that?!

Got midwife again this aft, must remember to pee in the pot.

izzybiz · 22/07/2008 15:23

Hi guys, I know I don't come on as much as I did at first but wanted to moan!

I have to have a glucose tolerance test!

I had glucose in my urine sample at 28 weeks, I explained that I had eaten coco pops before doing the wee!

Went to midwife today 31 weeks nothing in wee today, but she wants me to have it done so we can rule out diabetes.
I don't want to starve for 12 hours! I'm ALWAYS hungry

Oh well never mind, at least people are now asking "how long left?" instead of "how far are you?"

Must order a pram soon!!xxxx

kiskidee · 22/07/2008 15:38

potxola the anesthetist said that fentanyl is what is usually given for pain relief in a c/s. However, they can get around using it if that is what the patient wants. He said however the other stuff. There are pros and cons to using this other stuff but i was being distracted in my own head and didn't clear it up. I think that was because I have had so many issues in the past that i was thinking 'oh fuck, this idea ain't going to work either.'

the thing to remember though is that if your baby does not latch well after a c/s. don't get fobbed off with 'its ok, we still have time / we will try later, etc' get hand expressing colostrum if you are up to it within 5 hrs if your baby doesn't latch. Fentanyl causes problems with some babies, not all. there were several possible reasons why my dd wouldn't latch and fentanyl was only one of them. If someone had spent a bit of time with me and showed me how to hand express, our experience would have been a lot different.

hand expressing colostrum this is a document worth putting into your hospital bag.

lollipopmother · 22/07/2008 16:37

Does anyone know if it is routine for the midwife to tell us an approx weight of baby? I'd like to know what sort of size baby I will be pushing out but I don't know how they'd be able to tell??

kiskidee · 22/07/2008 16:43

I don't think it is routine to tell a baby's weight. I had a tiny bump. MW said that she was sure baby would not be over 7lb. She was 7lb 4 at 38wks.
Even scans can be grossly wrong by 2 lbs easily. Best guide is to look at your build and your dh's build.
