Oh that's horrible cyteen, especially when you did everything you were meant to and they are just being arsey. Drink up.

dizzy don't be so hard on yourself. You sound like such a fantastic mum. It has probably given your dd a shock, but if you give her lots of cuddles and a clear, short chat about her behaviour when you have calmed down with her it need not have any longlasting negative effect. These are the times when all the good work you have put in over the years pays off, because you know that she knows that you don't want to hurt her and you love her.

Add to hospital bag list - small celebratory flask of gin n tonic (obviously two SEPARATE flasks for you guys sazzles).

TwilightSurfer · 11/06/2008 16:58

Dizzy, in my childhood I was smacked on the backside quite often and properly it each time. Don't worry about it.

Am now eating DDs left over waffle....

TwilightSurfer · 11/06/2008 16:59

"properly deserved it"...somehow that got lost in the post

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 17:05

well she's back down and apologised after a chat with dh

the stupid thing is I stepped in to sort it all out as dh shouted at her - which he NEVER does - she seems to try to push her luck more with me, was put on bottom step and then went wild

its VERY unlike her, I am fully aware at how lucky I am with such a well behaved 4yr old and I know they're meant to be asserting their authority/personality more at this age - esp with big events like a birthday/baby and starting school coming up but still she was seriously pushing her luck

god, I sound as if am justifying giving a 4yr old a smack and I'm not, I shouldn't have lost my temper

thank you all for trying to make me feel better though, I just don't feel as if I deserve it

have sent dh off to heat up the lasagne and give them their tea till I have some time - pathetic

thanks am sitting on couch with feet up at moment

how are we meant to do everything?!?

am told to use ball to help pelvis but to sit with feet above hip/heart level to stop them swelling - am going to have to have a serious think about how to manage that one

Buckets · 11/06/2008 17:45

Dizzy, I assume you're doing the footflex thing when you get the leg cramp? Always works for me but if not for you then wowee that must be a nightmare.

I've made cheese scones and done 1 load of washing today. That's not very much is it? Oh I did a bit of hiking I guess as we live half way up a huge hill with school at the bottom and post office at the top (I am convinced our suburb is a dormant volcano). Dropped DD off at bottom, hiked to top, back down to collect DD then back home - I suppose the afternoon counts as recuperating.

longwayfromhome · 11/06/2008 17:46

Re: Gin and Tonic, coffee, nice cheese etc. Are they all OK during breast feeding? If so then an entire picnic basket may soon be added to the hospital bag. I think that I have missed coffee more often than wine during this pregnancy. How sad.

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 17:54

longway - would still steer clear of the caffine because it can leave baby a bit hyper

very rare touch of alcohol never did mine any harm and made for a lovely long sleep am going to get shot for admitting that AND smacking dd1 in the same day - feel free to oust me from thread this instant

cheese I presume is right back up there on the old ok list though

buckets made dh show me exctly what I should have been doing before we went to sleep last night so I was prepared and then of course it didn't happen lol

most effective thing so far was standing up and leaning on wall

longwayfromhome · 11/06/2008 18:52

dizzy (re:coffee) - noooooo - this is terrible news!

I've already instructed DP to pack a chilled bottle of bubbly in the hospital bag

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 18:55

thank goodness have a very large corner sofa

all welcome - hands out chocolate cake and irn bru

longwayfromhome · 11/06/2008 18:58

PS does anyone else have a pair of very sexy maternity compression tights? They are not as comfortable as one might think, but my doctor prescribed them and I suspect that my legs may be a slightly better size now, which is good.

longwayfromhome · 11/06/2008 19:01

Oh, thanks for the tea comment Sazzles

TwilightSurfer · 11/06/2008 19:32

Longway I don't consume a lot of caffine because of my anxiety issues BUT I did not delete my one large coke/dr.pepper/mr.pib a day with my first pregnancy or with this pregnancy. As a matter of fact I just finished a dr. pepper with my midday snack. At my age, caffine is required to keep the body moving.

Oh and I napped (but just a little).

May I sit in the corner now too.

VintageGardenia · 11/06/2008 19:34

dizzy thanks for the invite, budge over there. Now can you please explain what you meant by the following:

"buckets made dh show me exctly what I should have been doing before we went to sleep last night so I was prepared and then of course it didn't happen lol

most effective thing so far was standing up and leaning on wall"

Are you sure you are posting on the right thread? Shouldn't this be in Relationships or similar? Or have I missed something?

Glad you got sorted with DD.

longway good to see you again - re. alcohol etc with breastfeeding I'm sure the best thing to do is steer clear completely. I must admit to being a human being though, and when bf DS had coffee (instant only, real coffee left DS vv wakeful and also made it hard for me to nap as needed!), tea, wine, etc. And things like wine I moderated only because I didn't want to be squiffy when handling DS, not because of worries about it going through my milk. Cheese, shellfish and so on I think perfectly fine again when bf, am open to correction on this though.

Your tights sound marvellous! Post pics!

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 19:39

rofl VG thank you you've made me pmsl and at this stage it IS a genuine worry

has cheered me up no end after wallowing in my own misery from earlier on!

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 19:40

oh FFS, have tried to explain why am laughing at that and he now thinks he's on a promise for tonight

just for everyone's info (except maybe our overseas posters, sorry) there is a programme on ITV1 at 9pm called Britains Biggest Babies

I can't decide if I should be glued to it or avoid it like the plague

right that settles it then - you watch and tell me should I be watching or not and I'll stick it on the sky+ for consideration after my 12lber!

readyforbed · 11/06/2008 20:01

Thanks for the messages from my sound off eralier. I was feeling very sorry for myself - just tired and sometimes all the other stuff gets a bit much. Reckon that I will focus on the good things and not worry about what I don't actually have control over (but damn well do what I can). Enough 'me'.

Various people have had babies in the last 3 months (@ 4) and already have them sleeping through the night pretty much every night ! Here's hoping .

G&T too please, Tanqueray for me!!! Large with ice and a slice of lime if it's on offer.

Can they realistically tell how big a baby is going to be before it is born? And (forgive me on this on as i have lightweight babes) - i thought it was mainly head size that makes the difference, or is that a total lie?
