Hi all, thank you for cheering me up without realising I needed it. All this talk of chocolate is making me think my sugar levels are low. I've eaten enough fruit over the last few days to fill a greengrocer's so off to buy choc now.
I feel so teary again today, its driving me mad.almost started crying at work...not the done thing in an all male environment (that'll teach me for being in IT). I've now found a step to sit on outside work to have a break on. I wonder how long I can get away with hiding for. My back's hurting today which isn't helpiing things. Its ridiculous...I'm all strapped up in maternity belt and support bandage and its the bit that I didn't break that's hurting. I suppose its probably referred pain from bits that are being supported.
Oh woe is me! Someone slap me and just tell me to cheer up! Pip's certainly trying to knock sense into me from the inside!

VintageGardenia · 10/06/2008 17:22

Miamla I felt so weepy a couple of weeks ago that I ended up sobbing in front of my yoga class. I was absolutely mortified but no-one really thought anything of it. They all said oh it's hormonal, and I thought oh! that's all you know, it's really a deep inner misery, and continued sobbing. But I think they were right, and it passed, and I feel ok again now. CC also said she felt teary today, it must be just something that happens around this point.

I think somehow you are so sort of opened when pregnant that things don't just pass you by. You feel everything, magnified, and you are all sort of tenderised.

I can imagine being in an all-male environment makes it harder, that you feel you have to control yourself completely. I hope you've clocked off work now & will soon be home in your own space, with your OH on hand to give you lots of hugs and not ask you any questions.

Here's a hug from me, and a x, and a Penguin. I got a new packet specially for you.

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 18:04

shazza am not sure as that was when I was on bed rest for bleeding - have asked HR to advise me but she is sodding useless so went to pay office instead - lovely girl there is going to get in touch and let me know what I'll be getting every month from now on

TS and all other cramp sufferers - apparently the trick is tonic water or bitter lemon - drink one in the evening - now am not sure re adding vodka or gin - that is entirely up to you but we DO have some tonic water in the house so I'll give it a whirl tonight and let you know how I get on!

CC good for you - agree with VG, now is not the time to be struggling on for sake of it. Time off to yourself will do you the world of good. And I completely understand re the anxiety comment, having been through the same as you I instinctively know when its that and when its not

tea time at house of dixie so wish me luck lol

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 18:23

Dizzy, what does tonic water taste like? I've always seen it by the bar but never had it.

Hugs and cake to all the teary achey ladies

Well, I've had a very nice day in the sunshine. Lovely to see the NCT girls again and I had the most sinfully delicious chocolate truffle tart with orange ice cream. We have unanimously voted to meet at the same cafe again next week Very exciting too as the girl who's due first mentioned that her LO is apparently fully engaged now, so could come any day

Then spent the afternoon reading in DP's office - I was going to come up to the university library (where I am now) but have book club near here later on, and we were supposed to be meeting DP's boss and partner in between now and then to have a test push of their pram. However, in a stunning display of MALE preggy forgetfulness, both DP and his boss completely forgot about this arrangement, with the result that boss and partner were elsewhere when the time came! Hence I am passing the time till 7.30 with free library internet access, and DP has wandered off home to put his feet up and eat curry.

Re. maternity leave, I can't remember the exact details of mine but it's fairly standard (39 weeks paid at varying degrees of salary/% of salary with SMP/just SMP) and then the rest of the year unpaid if you want it. At the moment I'd love to take the whole year, but we'll just have to see how it goes.

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 18:48

Well I can't say much for what I read on here about your maternity hospital stays but, for the record, you ladies have it very posh as far as maternity leave goes. If memory serves, in offices/companies of 20 employees or more we are provided six weeks but pay is not required...they just hold your job. When I had DD, I had accrued four weeks of paid sick leave and one week of paid vacation leave that I used first then used the final week, unpaid....only to turn in my permanent leave notice at the end of week six. If you don't do it that way, you can loose your insurance coverage. DH could have taken the same six weeks but he only took two and used his paid sick leave. There are some employers who provide extra but those are typically BIG BUSINESS and it's NOT the norm.

Captain, I did some research about fundal size and the standard measuring practice is only accurate IF the baby is head down. Any other presentation goofs things. Soooo you can't use the numbers you're getting right now, my dear breech friend.

sazz battle of dinner went ok with usual bribe of tomato ketchup - our yummy homemade lasagne is in the oven ready any minute - can't wait

TS tonic water, hmmmmm, tis a bit of a nothing really - am not overly fond but will happily swig back a glass is it stops these sodding cramps - good for you looking at fundal sizes, hope it reassures CC a bit

cyteen how lovely am very of orange ice cream - sounds delicious and how lovely a brand new baby to sniff cuddle
what type of pram does dp's pram have? I'd love to try out the one I was looking at BUT am either going to have to forget it or just throw caution (and a lot of money to the wind) and order it

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 20:05

poppy if you're on tonight some of us on the local thread are aiming to go to Cairnie farm next week, probably Tuesday afternoon?

The medicine is working a treat already! I slept for 2.5 hours this afternoon and it was BLISS. I'm really looking forward to a day of lounging tomorrow, after I have my peidcure at 9.30, immediately after dropping ds off at nursery. Oh I am very excited!

Tearyness seems to have passed again - I'm positive I feel loads worse when I'm tired. So, for anyone who is feeling teary I order you to sleep for at least 2 hours .

Great news too - my friend is currently 41 weeks pg with her first baby and is in labour as we speak. Been having contractions since 11pm last night and went to hospital around 3pm this afternoon at 3-4cms dilated. Waiting for a text from her dh to find out what she's had

TS thanks for that fundal height info - it neglects to mention that anywhere in the literature we have! Makes sense though doesn't it?

CaptainCaveman · 10/06/2008 21:15

phewee dd is that you?

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 21:19

CC yes tis me, sorry but it was worth it

sazz its actually from the netherlands and can have it delivered from there not the US and it STILL comes in cheaper than buying from UK
