CC - no more measuring but let us know what mw says

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 11:41

Am I too late for the biscuits?

Collegue opposite me is so skinny and can eat biscuits all day. Now how is that fair?

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 11:45

shazza she'll get hers in the great karma scheme of life

right - osteopath now booked for Friday - £41 thank god for our health insurance policy!!!

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 11:47

23 days left at work and counting.

I plan to take a year off. Have good maternity pay so should work out I am basically off on full pay for most of the time.

I get;

6 Weeks Full Pay (1st 6 weeks is calculated using your average pay from a set time, so for Aug due babies it looks at March and April salary. It just so happened I got a lovely bonus in March, so it includes this and thinks this is my normal monthly pay. So first 6 weeks are at quite a high rate)

24 Weeks Full Pay. Been with employer 12 years. Get 2 weeks full pay for every year.

Rest is SMP. But because of getting higher weekly rate in the beginning works out at about 11 months normal pay, so if I can stretch it a bit longer.

So I know I am very lucky. But then I have got a huge arse, thighs and bingo wings so it just goes to show you can't have everything

Certainly not, have saved you a pink one, just a little licked melted at the corners.

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 12:01

has anyone seen hazie recently - am worried she's been buried under a tonne of nappies?!?

CaptainCaveman · 10/06/2008 12:52

Ahh ladies, it is nice to know you all care. Am home, mw has been and checked me over (although suspicious lack of tape measure ). She said (before examining me) that she thought it was one of 3 things:

  1. anxiety (which it isn't - I am a very experienced mad person and I know when I'm mad!)
  2. remnants of my chest infection (which I didn't have, it was tracheitis and my chest was clear)
  3. Anaemia (but she thought not because I would have heard from the gp by now if it was)

And after declaring all to be well, stated that at 30 weeks I would be short of breath as baby pushes everything up into the diaphragm - made worse by him being breech. However, "take some time off, put your feet up and relax". OK then, I don't need telling twice, so I'm off now til next Monday!

Now, where's the choccies? I've had my lunch and I could do with some nice pudding....

CaptainCaveman · 10/06/2008 12:55

And just to add to the mat pay convo, we get:
8 weeks at 90% pay
18 weeks at 50% pay plus smp
13 weeks smp
13 weeks unpaid leave
(12 months if you want it).
With my generous NHS annual leave allowance (41 days pro rata) that means I'm having 9 months off with just 5 weeks at smp rate . The sins of being a public servant are rewarded by mat leave!

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 13:13

Captain, glad to here you decided to go home and rest. Having had this baby in every direction I can honestly say, while she's breech, I feel dizzy and short of breath...overall not very good. It's amazing the difference when she shifts to head down. Your little boy may be doing the same trick on you. But I will also add my anxiety level hasn't helped either. {{{{hugs}}}}

Dizzy, my legs/feet aren't as bad this morning. All I did was eat loads of strawberries and bananas yesterday. Will probably be in the loo all day...

Baby still not quite settled in my belly but the storms have pasted (for the moment). Will be clearing tree limbs from the yard shortly.

I Give Up!!
Grammar....Spelling...That part of my brain must be completely gone at this point. I am so sorry.

Maybe it means I'm getting really close to giving birth???

OP posts:
VintageGardenia · 10/06/2008 13:33

What a good diagnosis CC, that's about the best result you could have got! Now you make sure you take your medicine like a good girl!

Thinking of being close to giving birth - who do you think will be the first from the thread??????

Oh yes and everyone who reads this - DO TEN PROPER PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES before posting yourself.

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 13:37

Dizzy - On your due date it will pick up February & March pay. Does that help?

Has anybody packed their hospital bag? I keep thinking if I do it will make the time pass quicker, but deep down I know that's rubbish. I just feel like I should be doing more.

VintageGardenia · 10/06/2008 13:40

Shazza haven't packed but for first time am feeling that I want to. Is everyone doing a labour bag and a separate hospital stay / baby bag?

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 13:40

VG - Doing my pelvic floors as I type.

CC - That's a good diagnosis. The bit about resting and putting feet up of course. Can I have what CC has please?

On who's to be first to give birth, maybe the stats could be updated once people who are having C/S have their dates?. Will be interesting to see if any of us do give birth on due date. Plus for the ladies due late July, 31st is a lovely date, my birthday Chances are I could have my baby on that date I suppose

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 13:42

I plan to use a small case on wheels. You know the overnight ones. I don't have any nice holdalls. So thinking between stuff for labour and post birth for baby and I should be about right. Or do you think it will be too big?

VintageGardenia · 10/06/2008 13:46

I don't think size will really matter Shazza (ha merry ha), your OH will most likely lug it in for you and I don't think you'll be short of space in the hospital. The only problem I suppose might be if you find you have to heave it up on to the bed at some point to rummage for something?

In Ireland the normal stay in is 3 nights, 5 if you have had a CS. Size of bag will also depend on how long you expect to stay in?

And relax.

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 13:49

No hospital bag here yet. Who knows I might even just leave without anything and see what happens.

OP posts:
Buckets · 10/06/2008 13:53

Oh good work Agent Babycavey, now let mummy reward you with something delicious .

I get 39wks at 90% with maternity allowance but bear in mind that's about £30 a week LOL. I'm planning to spend it on DS going to childminder friend for an afternoon a week plus pre-school lunch club so that he doesn't put a crimp in the new baby's social life. Honestly, his pre-school might be extending its hours but it still finishes at 11.40am, how does that help you when you're at a coffee morning or the mum&baby cinema club?
I locked myself out AGAIN today, luckily my mum was nearby and brought cookies as well as spare key. This is up there with morning sickness as a bona fide preggy symptom for me, have now finally hidden my spare key in the garden though.

Shazza2002 · 10/06/2008 14:12

Well I've signed to say that all being well they can basically chuck me out after 6 hours. So may not even be in overnight. So will just be labour stuff, change of nightie/PJ's and few bits for baby. So not lots really.
