We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

Oh, was reading this article in The Guardian today on way home from holiday (got stuck in alot of very long traffic jams!)

Thought it might be of interest, esp to those of us who long for a return to the more simple days of yore!

PP,

My nan is still going as well and she's 99, 100 in August. DS calls her little Nanny. My Mum is Nanna/Nanny and my Dad is Pops (this stems from what my brother, myself and cousins called his Dad when he was alive). My FIL is Grandad or Grandpa and MIL is Gran-Nanny (DS's choice). If it helps, I called my Mum's Dad Gramps before his death and I never knew my Dad's Mum as she died when I was 3 months old so the matter never arose.

Anyone else watching Eurovision? It really wouldn't be the same without Terry would it?

There is some real dross on it. I dread to think what the acts were like that didn't get into Saturday's final. The Spanish one was terrible. Quite like the Latvian one with the pirates. Not too keen on ours though.
The voting should be interesting. Can pretty much guess who will vote for who, especially the Balkan countries.

libralady · 24/05/2008 22:17

Oh and how many outfits can the hostess change into in one evening?

josey · 24/05/2008 22:23

Evening
Well DH is home and we have had a lovely Indian Takeaway(early birthday treat)....went to do a bit of shopping wanted some sheets from the Dunelm sale cheap and cheerful to be chucked if need be...and I think baby engaged while in the carpark I had a kind of 999 moment....I have still been getting mild contractions they arent really sore yet though feel as though they are being affective....I know this can go on for days so not getting hopes up....but when I mentioned to DH .....i got the manly response "eh,hmm, what do you mean" why bother!!!

PP my Dcs call all there's granny they have a silly amount of grannies due to us both having divorced and re married parents and up until recently all our grans were still alive so we had 7 and one point you tend to find that the gp in ? will introduce themselves and Granny/nana etc when they meet your lo for the 1st time.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/05/2008 22:23

libra, watching bits of Eurovision but it is so awful that we are now catching up on some telly we missed from last week!

What was the brides knitting thing all about from Bosnia?!!

Dreadful! And, like you say, the voting is sooo predictable!

debinaustria · 24/05/2008 22:38

We've been watching bots of the Eurovision but it is not the same with a German commentary, it's Wogan that makes it worth watching!!

Ernest update - she's been discharged but they wanted to keep her in, following results of blood tests on Monday she may be having her baby early - i.e. in 3 or 4 days. She's worried obviously and trying to get everything ready at home now.

PearTart · 24/05/2008 22:45

Deb- thanks for Ernest updates, have been worried, send our best wishes.

debinaustria · 24/05/2008 22:48

I'll send her your best wishes Peartart, and in answer to your previous comment - I did sit on the sofa all night (which reclines) and I had my Magnum earlier, and tonight I had a weak shandy - oh the decadence!!

libralady · 24/05/2008 23:21

Surprise surprise we came last. The voting is sooooooo predictable.
Mind you I did like the Russian and Greek one, although Greece had no chance against all the russian states voting for the Russian and Ukranian ones.

Debs, thanks for the update on Ernest. I'm not surprised with all she has had to deal with lately, and after her turmoil with her DH earlier in the week when she got lost, I think I would have gone in to labour there and then.

Josey, glad your DH is home. Bring on the little one. Hope you are chilling now.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/05/2008 23:37

libra, Terry sounded v cheesed off at the end of the programme and was even suggesting that it was now time for the UK (and the rest of western Europe!) to give up on Eurovision cos entering is a total waste of time!

Think he's got a point tbh!

I think they should start doing to voting anonymously, then countries would be less inclined to just vote for their mates.

Help! Why am I wasting one ounce of my small brain power worrying about this!

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:05

Morning all, we have all managed a lie in today (although still slept badly), DD still asleep which is great as she won't go into meltdown later when we go out for lunch. All our guests have decided that 8 is far too early for breakie

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:05

Debs - enjoy your ML

PearTart · 25/05/2008 08:13

So who did win Eurovision and did anyone really watch it all??
I flicked over at one point to find a time-warp baltic guy in tight leathers and flowing blouse/ hair combo. Why? Why?
It's not even funny any longer.
Not since the new states are so very earnest. Don't they understand it's all a bit of a joke?
Thank goodness Terry still lowers himself to presenting it!
Only USA/ UK can make decent rock/ pop music anyway.

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:16

Russia - cos all those east european countries want heatinmg this winter.

PearTart · 25/05/2008 08:19

Morning Sophie, Glad you're DD will make it through lunch. Did both your friends arrive?

Our DD was sick in the middle of the night and had a temperature. So, not sure if we'll be able to go for our long awaited and booked-for pub lunch with a bunch of mates.

She's not up yet. I'm hoping it's just a mystery fly-by night thing. She did try a banana compote last night. That would make me barf. I hate bananas.

PearTart · 25/05/2008 08:21

Sophie! PMSL! Russia is holding all their balls then.

Ludicrous that Eurovision could be a political tool!

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:28

They are coming next Sunday, full of guests this week.

Also Terry has inidcated that he isn't going to present it next year as it is such a farce.

Hope your DD feels better this morning.

PearTart · 25/05/2008 08:37

It's the beginning of the end if Tel's out.

Hope your guests behave. What will you do when Baby2 arrives, how are you taking a break?

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:40

2 days off before section then we star again a week later, DH will do all of the bed changing etc and w have a lovely lady coming into help in the mornings so she will do ironing, DD still at nursery, I do breakfasts, and we have rented our house out for 2 weeks in July so we get a break then. August will be OK as I hopefully have a friends 2 girls job sharing, and then things should hopefully quieten down,

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 08:44

Just looked at the diary, 19th Augus is the next time we don't have anybody booked in.

PearTart · 25/05/2008 08:46

That's busy, I hope things go really smoothly with CS etc. Hectic time of year for you I guess. Roll on July for your break.

debinaustria · 25/05/2008 09:18

Goodmorning all, It's 10.00 here and dh and I have just woken up

I have been up for a few wee stops in the night, heard ds1 getting up at about 8.00, then I went back to sleep, they just got up, and watched TV, and played. Unfortunately they forgot I had mentioned tidying up the lego explosion!! But I'll forgive them as they gave us a much needed lie in. Woke up starving though so I've had a tiny bowl of sugar puffs to keep me going and will have porridge when dh appears!!

Sophie - you have got a busy time of it, glad you have someone coming in to help you and dh out.

Peartart - hope dd feels better so that you can still go out for lunch, has she been sick since? If not then I would risk it, has she had breakfast and kept it down?

Weirdest dreams last night, dreamt that baby had turned and was breech, then lots of weird happenings in a shop whilst buying a changing table!

TaurielTest · 25/05/2008 09:21

Sophie, probably too late to respond to your q about asking your friend who's going through IVF to be godmother - but just thought I'd share my experience. DP's sister asked us - very cautiously - to be godparents to our niece or nephew when we had been TTC for over a year and were coming to the end of the Clomid stage and starting to plan surgery/injections/IVF. I was happy to be asked, but I think people's advice to take your lead from her is very sound.
We went to visit our new niece in the birth centre the day she was born and I got terribly upset on the train on the way there, anticipating that I might feel like a horrible person if I couldn't just feel 100% happy for them - and then once I was there it was absolutely fine. One of those situations where you dread the emotional reaction you think you'll have, and then you surprise yourself. I wasn't remotely envious in the event, had a strong feeling of "she's lovely but she's not mine". I suppose what I'm trying to say is that in my experience with fertility problems, even I didn't know how I would react to things, so never expected anyone else to be able to guess...

TaurielTest · 25/05/2008 09:30

re grandparents' names - how funny, we were discussing this yesterday. My parents won't be drawn on the subject yet. I had a Nana and Grampa and a Granma and Granda (those two were Scottish), I preferred them being differentiated that way rather than being "Granny Bloggs" and "Granny Jones" or whatever. My nana is still with us, but I don't know whether that means my mum will want to be called something else. My dad says he likes "Opa" (we lived in Germany for a while) but that might be a bit incongruous.
As for DP's side, I think when our niece arrived his mum wanted to be called Granny, but seems to be being called Nanny (?!) - so will have to ask her which she would actually prefer.

sophiewd · 25/05/2008 09:38

Grandma is called Mor Mor by DD actually Grandpas is aswell.
