April 08 - Summer sun and LO's!!

I third! I hated my DP SIL for weeks (even though I knew she would have hers before me, 6 weeks in total) and I would pretty much cry everytime there was a birth announcement on here, even though I wasnt even due!

And I can guarantee that I will still be sitting in hospital on Friday without a LO! Little bugger does not want to come out, feel like such a failure for not being able to did it au naturale, but I now just keep concentrating on the fact that it will be here soon.

However, if one one person says to me 'it will come when its ready' I will fish slap them!

Beeper, I'm assuming as it was a CS and you typed so little that you're still in hospital, but congrats for when you get a chance to read it.
Hope it was a planned CS and not an emergency.

Hi,

I had a good 1st stage, but waters broke and where green. Went in and was 5cm (with little effort) refused to have labour augmented and was told I had 4 hours to progress and get baby out, at this stage contractions where good and strong, babys heartrate started to dip but they said its not bad so carry on for VBAC. The she said I just need to examine you again, she spent ages and I needed gas and air as was so painful, the she shouted 'prolapse cord' everyone in theatre now. The flipped me on all fours with her hand still up my foofee and rushed me to theatre and knocked me out and then got the baby out. I was still on the monitor at 13.45 and baby was out at 2.00pm. So another failed VBAC. Had 3 days in but recovery has been really good, baby a little jaundiced but had apgar scores of 9, apprently baby made it because of awkward slanting postion on the cervix, but his head was bumping the prolapse on contractions.

anway there you have it.

I have a lovely son, but thats it. NO MORE

VictorianSqualor · 08/05/2008 17:09

Fuck! Well, you're lucky to have him here!Well done the pair of you.

Sheds75 · 08/05/2008 19:25

Found you all at last....... I've had a nightmare week with Henry so I'm a bit behind with the new arrivals so huge congrats to everyone. Hope everyone else is ok and their LO's progressing well.

Henry is finaly getting to grips with his Colic and we have put him on Cow and Gate comfort to help. At last I've had more than 2 hours sleep .

Denny185 · 08/05/2008 20:07

Shit beeper that all sounds bloody scary hooray for MW thank fuck she knew what she was doing and youve both come through safe and well

sagitta · 09/05/2008 10:21

Congrats, beeper. Sorry you had such a tough time...

sagitta · 09/05/2008 10:36

by the way, does anyone know if paternity leave of 2 weeks means 10 working days or 14 working days?

PortAndLemon · 09/05/2008 10:48

14 calendar days (so normay 10 working days), I'm reasonably sure.

Congrats, Beeper!

sagitta · 09/05/2008 10:49

Sadly, that's what I suspected. Thanks, Pal...

moominsmummy · 09/05/2008 12:01

hello all

just a quick update - we are doing fine although James very noisy breathing cos of mucus. getting some sleep and my mum is here helping out. DS1 is not so impressed with James and this morning brought James' present to him (scooby doo) back to us and said "I don't want it anymore" - so lots of cuddling and praise and attention and eventually he decides his does like his new toy and wants it back. phew!

am bit shocked at how infrequently the MW comes - I got discharged at 1.15am , 4 hours after the delivery, and then the mw came yesterday afternoon at 4 - she did the well baby checked but didn't examine me at all (although asked if i was ok) - and now I dont' get another visit til monday! when I had DS1 they came every day. I know they'll come more if i want them for something in particular but it's a worrying sign of the state of maternity services in the country really......

hope everyone else doing ok - must get back to gazing at adorable son will post some pics shortly

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 09/05/2008 12:11

yay

just a quickie, but since i gave up dairy Bas has gained an ounce a day!

we can go clinic now, no more home weighing!

tiktok is a genius

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 12:11

MM, when Ds1 was born I ahd a midwife every day for the forst ten days and then a health visitor every week or something, with ym mw she came and checked us over, came back three days later to weigh DS2 and then would've discharged us if his weight hadn't been low, but as it was she came back again, then I sw the HV once, thats it, all I have to see now is the GP for the 6(me) and 8(ds2) week appointments.

Sagitta, AFAIK, it's two working weeks, or that's what DP was told, so you get two of your working weeks off paid (£112a week if it's stat pay rather than your company making it up) but you can have upto 6 months (I think) unpaid.

PortAndLemon · 09/05/2008 12:27

I got discharged 4 hours after delivery too, then the notification didn't get to the community midwives so I called them on day 4. We talked things through on the phone and scheduled appointment for day 6 (I think they'd have come out sooner had there been any concerns). DD was still 1 oz under birth weight at that point so we went to the midwife clinic to see them on day 15, by which point she was 19oz over birth weight so they discharged us. They didn't examine me either time, although they did ask whether I wanted them to. I saw the health visitor once on day 12 and she phoned me yesterday to tell me DD's heel prick blood test results were all fine; I don't expect to see her again either except for DD's 8 week checks (although there's a drop-in clinic three days a week five minutes' walk away if I did).

I think if you tick all the boxes (two parents, second baby, seem to be coping, etc.) then they are fairly inclined to leave you to shout for help if you want it (I could virtually see the first mw ticking those boxes before she asked if I'd be happy to go to the midwife clinic rather than have a second home visit). Which is actually how I prefer it -- I suppose there's a challenge in that some women will prefer it one way and some the other.

I don't think I got visited much more with DS - certainly not daily visits, but then he was c-section so I was in hospital until day 5 with him anyway and the community midwives were less significant.

Go Peachy!

Denny185 · 09/05/2008 12:58

Yay peachy thats great news

Moomins hope DS1 starts liking his brother soon, although to be fair to him they arnt much fun yet.

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 13:48

Hi everyone. I haven't posted for ages, but just read through last couple of pages and glad that everyone seems to be doing well. Good luck to those still waiting.

LO doing well and just growing up wayyyy too quickly for my liking . My mom came over from South Africa for 3 weeks and it was lovely having her around and helping out. We're 4 kids, so it was very reassuring to have her here - especially as I kept getting all stressed out whenever baby was crying! She went home over the weekend. DH took leave on Tuesday (as I had to go to hospital for some tests and couldn't take LO with), so Wednesday was my first day on my own with him - was stressful and lovely at the same time. Anyway, that's my update - nothing exciting, but a great time nonetheless.

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 15:15

I've just added some early pics of baby.

scorpio1 · 09/05/2008 15:35

just saying hi Mimi has a cold this is day 2/3 of it, last night dh sat up with her from 4am-7am becuase she couldnt breathe. i however had good sleep, lol!!

Gonna weigh millie on weds, hopefully she will be 9lb-ish. got some more meds today for thrush after my spillage yesterday.

Re MW visits - i had a visit on day 1 & 5 & 10. then 2 HV visits(1 becuase of thrush) and we are now free. i agree it must be ticking boxes too - with ds1 i was 17 and they came every day.

moominsmummy · 09/05/2008 15:47

sal - love the pics - i have just added one of DS2 - not so stylish as yours (but in my defence it was taken by me, 30 mins after he was born - surprised I could operate a camera at that stage!)

PortAndLemon · 09/05/2008 15:50

Lovely pics, Sal and moomin

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 16:02

Ah, what a lovely pic, moomin! Seriously impressed with you taking pics 30 mins after birth!!! I, on the other hand, put his birth in newspaper (so that we could make up "birth parcels" to all the grandparents back home who "missed out"), and I was so scatter brained that I forgot to put baby's name in...

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 16:04

(but of course lied straight out when we realised and now pretends that we omitted it on purpose for privacy, hehehe)

Mollyfloss · 09/05/2008 16:21

Hi everyone. Well done Peachy! Very nice pics Sal

LO is doing well. We've been out and about when it's not too hot. She has a bit of thrush in her vagina but it seems to be clearing up with canesten as prescribed by the Doctor.

I'm quite impressed by the whole midwife visits / health visitor / baby clinic system in this country but then I have nothing to compare it to. Americans tell me they have nothing like that in the USA and I'm not sure how it is in Ireland but not as good I think (although I think the hospital care there is better)

Carey87 · 09/05/2008 16:40

hi all!

Ellie Isabella born at 2.09 am weighing 7lb 8oz on Wednesday (08/05/08)

She is very much loved by her very proud mummy and daddy
