I third! I hated my DP SIL for weeks (even though I knew she would have hers before me, 6 weeks in total) and I would pretty much cry everytime there was a birth announcement on here, even though I wasnt even due!

And I can guarantee that I will still be sitting in hospital on Friday without a LO! Little bugger does not want to come out, feel like such a failure for not being able to did it au naturale, but I now just keep concentrating on the fact that it will be here soon.

However, if one one person says to me 'it will come when its ready' I will fish slap them!

Yey carey!

And moomin!

And anyone else who has had a baby will read up later when the mole lets me!

Hey all - sorry have been a no show. It's been a bit mad here with DD not gaining weight and my crap bf and being a bit miserable about ff etc. Am still trying to bf but my milk is in short supply depite loads of feeding and expressing and they told me she needs a top up of ff after every feed now. which i do mostly but sometimes I rebel when she seems satisfied from the breast. Weigh day is tomorrow so not sure what will have to do if no weight gain.....

But enough about me - how are you all? I've missed you lot!

PortAndLemon · 09/05/2008 17:06

Ellie -- start a thread in the feeding section and ask for tiktok. she will do magic things to your breasts (as it were...)

Carey87 · 09/05/2008 17:06

EllieG · 09/05/2008 17:33

Denny - how did you stop using the nipple shields?

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 17:38

Ellie, I have denny's email if you want it, she may check it more than MN.

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 09/05/2008 17:40

Ellie- definitely post for tiktok, but also they say fennel tea and oats help supply, i've been using both and well, it can't hurt can it? the tea is easy to find in supermarkets, i let it go cold as not great (but not as bad as raspberry leaf lol)

EllieG · 09/05/2008 17:44

I will go stalk her now

Yes please VS my email is elliepinel at yahoo dot co dot uk

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 18:21

congrats, carey!

Ellie, not sure if it's just an old woman's story (my mom says her mother brought her a cup of milo after every feed, which used to drive her mad as she hates it...), but apparently Milo is good for milk supply. I think it's not as good as most other remedies, but as I like it anyway, I'm drinking it mid afternoon and at night, when my milk supply is a little low. Maybe it's just the hot milk though, but if you like hot chocolate, try some. If it doesn't work and you like it, at least you've got an excuse for a supply of hot chocolate drinks (my master plan ) Don't know if you know it(from Nestle) it comes in a green tin, Tesco sells it, but our Sainsburys etc not. Milo . Good luck, thinking of you.

I'm sure someone on here would be able to give you some proper advice. But in the end, I guess all baby cares about is that you love him more than anything. xxx

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 18:22

her i mean . i need more sleep.

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 18:28

not nestle!

EllieG · 09/05/2008 18:44

Sounds like a good excuse to have some hot choc to me!

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 18:46

ho hum ho hum.

EllieG · 09/05/2008 18:50

Did you know sal eats babies after she's had her milo?

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 18:53

At least she eats them rather than aggresively markets formula milk that will slowly kill them at their poor parents that cant even feasibly afford it.

EllieG · 09/05/2008 18:55

I'm good me I only ever buy cadbury

PortAndLemon · 09/05/2008 19:02

Ah, but she eats them with Cheerios...

Actually, I have to admit that I don't boycott Nestle myself. I'm not convinced that they are any worse than the other formula manufacturers.

Denny185 · 09/05/2008 19:37

Congratulations carey

Ellie - it does take some perseverance to get rid of the shields. I started getting rid of them gradually, ie if normal feed is 20 mins per side start with 18 mins with shields and 2 mins without, this means that your nipple has been drawn donw and easier to get a good latch. Reduce by 2 mins each day, you will find the nipple is slightly less drawn with less use of the shields so baby starts to learn to latch onto less nipple.
The other thing I do is apply lansinoh prior to the feed which makes it a bit easier to reposition mid feed. For the latch when not using the shield you can either manually draw your nipple out by hand expressing or go for a 'squish and shove' technique - squash the whole areola area and when her mouth is open wide shove as much as possible in (I find this the most comfotable way but does take a bit of practise).
It has to be comfortable otherwise it can affect your milk supply.
BTW - if there are weight gain issues has anyone suggested compression technique during feeds?
Hope this makes sense and maybe some help

All this talk of chocolate has made me hungry - theres a surprise - went into town today minus children and some sales assistant asked me when the baby was due . Cheeky bitch I know its flabby but not that bad

moominsmummy · 09/05/2008 19:45

Ellie - ((hug)) hope it gets easier

James has now got the hang of BF - which is handy cos he's not quite 48 hours old and my milk seems to have come in already

love him loads although his trumps are really stinky - smell of rotten eggs -anyone else's LO doing this? to be fair he is quite yellow today too so don't know if it's just part of the jaundice? does anyone know?

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 19:57

LOL about all your comments - honestly, I am a good (but ill informed, granted) girl!

Actually I vaguely remember reading about the Nestle boycot now... Hmm, so no Milo for me at all??? Will cry endlessly. Might join LO and start a duet...

VictorianSqualor · 09/05/2008 20:30

lol sal, I was joking, well, kind of, I do boycott Nestle but I don't expect anyone else to!

Sal22 · 09/05/2008 20:47

Not to worry VS, i know Maybe I'll limit my intake (my hips could do with a boycot actually!)

Woollymummy · 09/05/2008 21:09

Hello everyone, our little boy Robin David arrived yesterday at 12.26pm, 8 lb 11 oz, after I was induced the night before. After my waters broke at 3am things started to feel really intense, though I was told I was still only 2 cm dilated. With helpful stroking of my back I managed to last another hour on the ward, then started moaning so much I got taken down to the delivery suite where I totally enjoyed gas and air to get me to 3 cm and my epidural. The wee lad had sneakily managed to get himself into a rather tricky OP (back to back) position, so just like with Bryony I was getting triple contractions and was having no more nasty pain, oh no! Very hilarious anaesthetist set me up so I could enjoy the last bit, though DS didn't turn fully so I had a three hour second stage. Ouch. Finally got my own way (after a bit of arguing)and got off my side and onto my knees to push him out, with a running commentary from DP and MWs ("here comes an eyebrow, ooo there's an ear") it was brilliant. We have had a great day today, walked to the shops on my own with DD and DS, and then grandparents drove us to toddler group to show him off to my friends and DDs friends. I feel fab, making the most of it before my milk and hormonal tears and sadness descend on me on Monday!!!
