cyteen I love felix tis too close to dd2's name though so not an option for us if a blue bump

CC!!!! welcome home, same thread probably due to me being at work and not blabbering on so much

cannot believe you are still going sleep lady sleep

Buckets · 24/05/2008 20:16

LWFH, are there more feral animals etc in Argentina? Would guess Britain and US are more anal about feral cats and dogs etc.

Cavey, welcome back!

Cyteen, my DD was going to be Felix if she was a boy, can't explain why it's gone off my list now - just can't picture it on this bump. But Kurt (current fave) is a nickname for Conrad apparently so there you go.

I'm slightly peed off as SIL asked me to have her 3 small boys for 'an hour or so' this morning and didn't come get them for 4 1/2 hours! They were fine as it happens, 5 kids keep themselves busy, just VERRY NOISILY. To be fair, she did spend the whole time cleaning her old house for completion (they moved yesterday) but it meant I missed my tiny window of opportunity to escape and get my eyebrows done.

CaptainCaveman · 24/05/2008 20:50

Well, dh is downstairs snoring his way through Eurovision, ds is watching Tom & Jerry in bed and I can't decide what to eat next! I fancy a BIG glass of Baileys but that would mean a trip to Tesco.....(which is all of a 1 minute drive away!)

Bump seems enormous all of a sudden - must be all that rest on holiday!

pregnancy1 · 24/05/2008 21:21

Evening,
Am so tired after a v busy day. Had our 4d scan today - went well although bean was a tad uncooperative. She kept waving her hands and even feet infront of her face. Got a few good pictures and it was good to have my parents there too. Also got the woman to confirm it was a girl so I could order my pink pushchair with confidence.
Then went to John Lewis to order lots of baby stuff. I mentioned to a member of staff that I wanted to order all my baby stuff today, but needed advice and so they offered to set up a nursery list for us. That way we had a nice woman follow us round the shop making suggestions and giving advice for 3 hours! We also got free tea and cake for DH, myself and my parents. We bought lots of stuff, but left a few smaller bits and bobs on for friends who've asked if they can buy something (although I'm no sure if I feel confident - seems a bit cheeky even though I know they'd rather get something I wanted and those that want to pick stuff themselves won't ask). Either way we now have a list we can add to online so I can add stuff from the comfort of my sofa!
Then got lots more free samples from Clarins for my hospital bag (that'll be the only thing in it at the mo!). Also got some of that blue foot/leg balm that LOW recommended - now just to persuade Dh to rub it in tonight!
Just out of interest - am really confused about what clothes I need for bean. Do I need those little jumpsuits with long sleeves and legs (babygrows or sleepsuits?) even though shell be born in August? I have got sleepsuits and bodysuits (same but with no arms and legs). Is that right? I wanted to buy cute stuff, but got so overwhelmed I put it off . I have lots of essential lists from books/magazines, but doesn't it depend what time of year the baby is born?
GOsh, it's all about me isn't it??

CaptainCaveman · 25/05/2008 12:29

Great news for your 4d scan pregnancy1, and for getting to do baby stuff for 3 hours!!! I'd get a mixture of mainly short sleeve and a couple of long sleeve - that way if she is too cold you can always add extra layers, then take them off if necessary. You would think that August might be hot in this country but given the rubbish summer we had last year you just never know! Also, maybe just buy a few before she's born as you never know what size she will be in - ds was tiny at 5lb 7oz and was still wearing his 0-3 month clothes at 6-9 months (mid winter by that point!). I've also had friends who have had the opposite (ie, baby needed much bigger clothes much earlier). hth?

So, I went to bed at 9.30 last night and woke up at 11.20 this morning . Ds got into our bed at 6.45 and I told him to go back to sleep for an hour....we both woke up 4.5 hours later . Bliss.

However, like Old Mother Hubbard my cupboards are empty so we face the supermarket shop today - what a nice end to our holiday . I've missed you all though - it is nice to be back with my pregnant friends!!

Buckets · 25/05/2008 13:52

Even though hospitals are generally hot, I think they expect you to have them in a sleeveless/shortsleeved vest and sleepsuit for the first few days, while the baby's getting used to different air and temperature sensations etc. What you do when you get home is up to you of course , my summer baby was soon sleeping in a sleeveless vest and a single sheet. Our babies won't need a hat at all (if the hospital think it's necessary they will find one for you).
I just bought some Sainsbury's packs of newborn sleepsuits and sleeveless vests in green and yellow to go in my hospital bag. Starting to get excited about this whole baby thing now, funny that.

Buckets · 25/05/2008 13:54

Anyone else getting migraines again or is it just me? I've woken up with one for the last 3 days! Had to work through it this morning.

TwilightSurfer · 25/05/2008 14:01

Morning. LLOONNGG night. I think I was awake most of it. My bump is just not allowing me any comfort these days. Then heartburn hit around midnight. Oh and I had to get up to pee. DD started wailing for giraffy-giraffe so I had to fumble around the house till I found him. One thing then another and before you know it it's the suns up again.

Captain, so glad to have you back. The thread has moved quite slowly lately. If anyone's like me they've been up to their ears in end of the school year stuff. DD finished her 3-year old school term and soccer this week. She has two more swim classes next Thursday and Friday then it's officially SUMMER VACATION. No plans for three months.....WONDERFUL!!!

Pregnancy1 I'm worried about LO being hyped-up for our 4D scan on Tuesday. Did they recommend you do anything or did they just work with the baby to get your pics? As for clothes, just get a minimal amount of basics spanning newborn to 9 months. Captain's right, you have no idea what size you'll actually need till she gets here. A few of each size will get you through the first days then you can go shopping for more. It's hard not to purchase all the cute stuff out there but really save some for when you have the baby to size up properly.

Cyteen it's a whole different world once you have a little performer. And the worst part is you never know if you're performer will perform. Mine's SUCH a diva. Every concert is a gamble....will she sing or DEMAND to leave. We're always prepared for whatever mood she's in.

Well I ordered a few more things for the baby yesterday. I ordered this for winter and this for every other season. The winter version has a cute hat that I had to purchase too. Babies need hats you know. I'm still looking for just the right sling/carrier. And I'm thinking about an additional skinny stroller to use when DD isn't with us (which would really be rare). I guess next month my focus will be entirely on my hospital bag. I should stop by the Clarins counter here this weekend and see if they have the lush samples everyone here is righting about.

Oops...another book post from Twilight.

CC tis lovely to have you back, I even burned myself on the bump with the iron because was missing you so much

TS that stuff is soooooo cute, especially the hat

pregnancy1 am very of your baby shopping trip! putting stuff on a list is a good idea, people are always so generous and want to buy you stuff you need

has anyone heard from hazie recently?

wonder how sazz journey to France got on?

today has been gorgeous here, really warm and sunny, just perfect for bbq

had a terrible night with dd2 so was a bit tired but got up and got stuck into the baking before everyone arrived, pil actually took the girls to the park so we could get the garden finished and then my parents turned up and mum paid for shopping from M&S yum yum

bbq went well, some food left for tomorrow, yipee, needless to say the lemon drizzle cake and white chocolate cheesecake all got demolished!

dh and I both off tomorrow which is great, we can drop girls at nursery and have a morning off, he worked very hard this morning and I am shattered tonight

hope you're all having a lovely weekend and the weather stays nice for you if you're off tomorrow

dizzydixies · 25/05/2008 21:56

sorry for mammoth post

poppy we're making noises about a trip to cairnie on the local thread

Expectant · 26/05/2008 06:39

Hi All

Longway - only just caught up but haven't been offered a tetanus injection for pregnancy here.

TS for the update I'm also now 32

Hurrah - it finally rained this morning so it is a bit cooler. DH has some sickness bug and is acting like he is at death's door. Not getting much sympathy from me at the moment.....plus I don't want to catch it either.

Hope you all have a great Bank Holiday and get lots of shopping done!

Sazzles I do hope the rain clears soon.

Dizzy sounds like we had similar days. Attended a friends BBQ yesterday that was absolutely amazing. Loads of friends and kids galor. Excellent food too. I'm sure she had a little bit left over but the cake....it was gone faster than a speeding train. YUM!

Expectant, Happy Birthday. Don't be sad 32 is a good age. I remember it fondly.

Holiday here today. No plans. I'm only up now (4am) because I'm starving, had to pee and the baby is balled up oddly as usual. Pissed, had some toast and OJ, but can't get the LO to budge. Guess I'll go pace a little around the house & hope she moves to a more comfortable position THEN BACK TO SNORING.

Will check back in a few hours.

Good morning gals, or should I say, good afternoon. Had the crappest nights sleep, must be the jetlag catching up. WEnt to bed around midnight, was still awake 2 hours later (depsite a bit of how's your father ) so went downstairs to eat chocolate and drink licquorice tea. Ds woke up 20 mins later so I put him in our bed where he proceeded to talk for the next 45 mins, then cry because we wouldn't let him have any milk. Grrrrrr. Woke up about every 30 mins due to cramp/cold/uncomfortableness/lack of space. hey ho.

Glad you are safely in France Sazzles am praying for nice weather for you!

Thanks for the welcomes btw everyone, but dizzy you didn't have to iron your bump, mine still has the scar on it (albeit a little bit tanned! ).

Weather today is shite and cold, brrr. I've put the heating on because I was shivering.

TwilightSurfer · 26/05/2008 13:55

Captain, your night sounds like the ones I've been having off and on for a couple of weeks (and I can't blame it on jetlag).

Sorry for all the bad weather. I'll not say what mines like as it might get me kicked off the thread.

I need some advice regarding slings/carriers. I've always been clumsy with them but really want to try again. I read a report saying slings were better on baby's spine than carriers. What are your experiences? What brands or styles will you be using? I'm thinking the Baby K'tan or the Moby Stretchy Wrap might work for me. I'm a bit disappointed because before the report I had my heart set on the Ergo Baby Carrier. This is one site I'm using.

pregnancy1 · 26/05/2008 17:38

Evening,

Twilightsurfer - no, they didn't give me any special instructions before the 4d scan. I even asked if I should have a fizzy drink and they said no. I think the whole process of being prodded wakes them up a little. Bean was certainly less active than she had been previously, but probably more to do with her reduced living quarters....

Had another good day. Went to a store which stocked the cotbed we wanted and planned to order it in advance and they had a deal on the stuff they had in stock (cotbed and mattress in the storeroom unopened). In addition, I had been trying to convince myself that I could live without the matching changing table but they had an ex display one on sale - we saved about £150 in all! I do love a bargain .

CaptainCaveman · 26/05/2008 21:13

Fab bargains there pg1, a girl after my own heart. Speaking of which Dizzy I need you to help me if at all possible....I'm looking for a new Quinny Buzz 3, in midnight colour, and I want the Dreami carrycot and footmuff with it (don't need the car seat as have one from ds). Where can i get this the cheapest? I only ask because you seem to have an encyclopeadic knowledge of such things!

Back to work tomorrow (boo) but only 6 weeks left til mat leave (yippee!). Including time off for scans, psych appt and antenatal, I make that 21 working days left! Roll on 3rd July.

Other FAB news, my friend is due 2 weeks after me and was told at 12 week scan that the baby had something wrong, most likely downs. 2 weeks later she was told to expect to lose the baby very soon. 6 weeks later they were still performing a barrage of tests and came up with nothing other than 'lets wait some more'. I heard from her today, she is now 26 weeks and so far no probs. Praise God isn't that just the most fantastic news!!! I'm going to see her on friday to catch up properly.

Hope you are all ok and not doing anything too strenuous? And no, eating chocolate does not count as strenuous activity!

TwilightSurfer · 26/05/2008 22:22

Captain that is AMAZING news about your friend!!! Makes you wonder sometimes.... Glad she stuck it out. I'm sure that was very difficult.

Thanks PG1. I'm sitting here making a list for the ultrasound tech. I'm such a NERD. I want her to check this and that and anything else I can think of so I'll stop worrying. First on the list is girl parts....remember I was told originally I was having a boy. Then four weeks later, the correction....it's a girl. Now I have all this PINK stuff. It would serve me right that a good 3D look proves it's a boy afterall.

Today I CLEANED my bedroom. I can now see the floor and all the furniture is polished. I should take a picture because it won't stay this way long.

So 3D/4D scan is tomorrow at 10:45 (my time). Looks like I'm taking DD and DH "might" join us. Work has played a trump card and he's not happy because this 3D/4D thing was his idea. Fingers crossed all goes well.

will have a look for your pram - watch this space

TS whats with the cleaning?!?! I've done nothing today, I felt it didn't merit anything as worked so hard over the weekend

dizzydixies · 26/05/2008 22:47

cc

here and here

have a look here and tell me what you think

will have another look tomorrow

TwilightSurfer · 26/05/2008 23:05

Dizzy, I had to clean my room. Was considering locking the door and moving into the guest room it was so bad. I hate that it's the last room that gets any tending but that just seems the case every week. In my dream home my bedroom will be just that ... a room with a bed, everything else (armoir, mirror, maybe even DH) should be in a seperate room. I think the clutter has been causing me issue and that's why I've not been sleeping well.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 27/05/2008 09:53

TS fingers crossed lo playing nice for you scan can't wait to hear all about it

dizzydixies · 27/05/2008 10:03

cc

two left feet have the whole kit and caboodle for £509 - now I know you don't need the car seat but sometimes its cheaper to buy the whole thing and either have a spare or sell it on ebay as new?

the whole kit and caboodle on kiddiecare is £577 which has the quinny/car seat/ car seat base/carrycot and footmuff so it would be ANOTHER £60+ for just the car seat base!?!? or £514 without base

pramworld is £509 again

sarahnh · 27/05/2008 10:28
