sarahnh, hope you're doing ok.

pregnancy1 - that's definitely something to celebrate! i can't remember the last time i had a bloodless and painless pooh. a couple of weeks ago there was quite a lot of blood. but thank god it hasn't been that bad again...

miamla · 13/05/2008 12:45

Hee hee, so is it open court for talking about poo? I wanted to post exactly what pregnancy1 wrote the other day! I was in so much pain and being on aspirin as well really made me quite scared with the amount of blood. Seems a lot better now though is there room in the embarrassed corner for me too?

Sarah, any news? You must phone the midwife now if you haven't already. If you can't get through to her just go straight to the hospital. Its more than likely to be nothing but must be checked out today
I know exactly what you're going through so thinking of you today

TwilightSurfer · 13/05/2008 13:02

Sarah I'm 26+3 today and reported spotting at 25+1. It wasn't enough to wipe though. Big thing is whether it's red or brown. Brown being better because it's old. There's any number of reasons to spot at 27 weeks. Getting checked, especially if it's red, is a very good idea. Relaxing is another, even though that's hard. You're at a good point in the pregnancy. If the baby happens to be born now, for whatever reason, chances of an excellent outcome are extremely high.

I was just researching fundal height again. I don't know why because I've told myself there's nothing really WRONG with my fundal height. Anyway...I found this wonderful site that is really well put together with loads of information on every imaginable pregnancy topic. HERE By MY measurements I'm 28 weeks. Anybody here know how the top of your uterus is suppose to feel when your doing this measurement??

Poo issues: There's no embarrasement here for poo problems. If you don't have them or haven't had them....YOU WILL. It's a glorious subject that binds (pardon the pun) us all together.

Thanks Sazzle. I was just wondering. As if I have nothing else to worry about.

Trying to get DD ready for swim lessons. What is with kids...they want to go but don't want to get dressed. I'm tempted to take her naked!!!!!

Hey everyone,

I'm back.. thanks for all your kind messages.

Well i was sent to the hospital to get me checked over. I have had a bad cough for the last few days and that has caused me to have some erosion?! But they were happy that the bleeding would tailor off. Had to have a yucky internal too...

The not so good news is that little baby is measuring small.. had to have a detailed scan.. docs asked if i smoked and i explained that i quit as soon as i found out i was expecting.. she said that it could still have an impact ...

I am very tall and very slim, my dd was small and i explained that too them aswell but they just made me feel like i wasn't looking after my baby

Feel really upset and gutted, if i hadn't gone to the hospital i would be none the wiser, i always measured small the last time and figured i would this time... now they want to see me in 2 weeks and if the baby is still small they will refer me to consultant care... how am i suspose to make the baby grow??

So sorry for this big me rant, i just feel so upset by the whole eperience.

bealcain · 13/05/2008 15:16

Sarah - sorry to hear, they're amking you feel like that. If it makes you feel any better, i'm 28weeks and currently measuring 34weeks so am a total whale Did you measure as small with dc1?

Hope everyone else is good, sory not been on for a while, kids are mental!

miamla · 13/05/2008 15:39

sarah, they're doing exactly what they did with me...keeping an eye on things. Mine was measuring small as well (and i'm not saying this is the case with you at all so please don't worry) and they found that it was because of a reduced blood flow in the umbilical cord. There are many many things they can do to help baby's growth. if they were really worried they would have had you back next week instead of 2 weeks.
I'm tall and slim too but they didn't listen to me either! you did the right thing about going to hospital though, its always important to get bleeding investigated despite you finding out some bad news.
I know its easier said than done but try not to worry. are you able to have a lie down and just spend some quality time with your bump? i found talking to my baby about my worries whilst stroking bump really helped. Especially when it seemed i was getting kicks in response. But hey, we're all different, whatever works for you but please try and give yourself some time to relax.

I'm by no way an expert on any of this, i'm a first timer. what i found really useful was starting a separate thread on the pregnancy board. loads of people wrote about their own experiences so it kind of made things a bit more normal for me.
but stay in touch with us all on here as well

sarahnh · 13/05/2008 15:46

thanks again for your kind messages, i feel all i seem to do here is moan.

I did measure small with my 1st dd but never had any scans or anything. my bmi was underweight when i became pregnant so from they start my mw said that they may monitor me..

I am just so frustrated, they made a big deal about me smoke before i became pregnant but since i'm not smoking now, what difference does it make???? also i have put on alot of weight ( i know i carry alot of excess water) but when my dh said to them " so should she eat more chocolate?!" they said no she is fine the way she is!!!

So i guess i have a long two week wait to see if anything has changed... arghhhh

PetitFilou1 · 13/05/2008 15:53

Awww Sarah, you aren't supposed to make the baby grow. They will refer to consultant care not because you've done anything wrong but because the baby needs to be kept an eye on. I guess the baby needs to be got out sooner rather than later if it isn't receiving enough nutrients from the placenta type thing. You stopped smoking as soon as you could which is more than a lot of women do - you've done your best.

I had scan no3 today - cerebral ventricles (spaces in the brain) are still at the upper limits of normal but haven't grown beyond that so they are happy and I don't need to be seen again. Ds2 definitely has his dad's nose this time! He is measuring 25 and a half weeks when I am just 25 by the sonographer's original estimation so hopefully that means he'll be early if he's a fast grower!

TS Most midwives here don't seem to bother with fundal measurements anymore - I don't think it is very reliable so I wouldn't worry about it.

Any news from dizzy? I think she had a scan today?

PetitFilou1 · 13/05/2008 16:01

Sarah
This might reassure you - from netdoctor.co.uk

The stuff on smoking during pregnancy makes pretty horrendous reading but this I thought was helpful:

'Women who stopped smoking at the halfway point in their pregnancy gave birth to babies with the same average weight as women who had not smoked at all during pregnancy.'

It is perfectly possible they don't believe you when you say you stopped smoking immediately. Or that may just be me being cynical. Either way, try not to feel upset, just look after yourself and if they say you don't need to eat more, then you don't need to!

sarahnh · 13/05/2008 16:04

Thanks for that PF you have made me feel a bit better.. i have been scanning the web too looking for answers...

I am just going to try and eat healthily and rest up for the next two weeks and then see what they say xxxx

dizzydixies · 13/05/2008 16:11

hi all, lovely day here and all I have managed to do is the weekly food shop

petit scan is tomorrow but thank you! my friend is also booked in for her c/s in same hosp tomorrow morning so am hoping they'll let me peak in great news about you not needing to be seen again

sarahnh don't be panicking, rotten sods being so mean to you and well done you for stopping the minute you found out, many don't even bother

TwilightSurfer · 13/05/2008 17:25

Sarah...my doctor thinks things are on the small side for me as well. Try to embrace the fact you scored another visit in two weeks, you'll probably be scanned as well which means another lovely viewing of baby. Some medical professionals just lack proper bedside manners. As for the smoking.....my mother smoked and I'm perfectly normal. My evilSILs smoked heavily during ALL their pregnancies and ALL their kids seem normal. One of my RLBF's quit smoking as soon as she realized she was pregnant and her DD is perfectly normal. These are all random women from different age groups giving birth in different decades.....I think you'll be fine.

Baby's transverse again ARRRGGGHHHH!!! Taking DD out to ride her bike. Maybe I can get the baby to move back to a comfortable position by walking around.

OP posts:
Buckets · 13/05/2008 17:26

TS Step away from the tape measure! Go make some cookies or something for us.

Sarahnh - don't see that a bit more choc would hurt anyway . I only stopped smoking when I found I was pg with DS and he was born 9lb at 38wks! As you say, your last one was small and you're obviously naturally slim so why shouldn't your next baby be the same? Anyway, you get another scan so you should come out of all this even more assured your baby's fine.

Had fab sex last night but felt awful afterwards again, pelvis ached all round, baby seemed cross (don't know how I know this) and I had to take paracetamol! Definitely have to work on some different positions - bump's not too big yet but I obviously get carried away and overdo it somehow LOL.

I've had a crap afternoon though, have fallen out with the kids - struggling to psyche my way back to good mood by 6pm for bedtime hour. Hence hiding on MN of course.

Ooh Chinese. Haven't done any dinner tonight as me and the kids had what DD calls a 'clean tea' (ie finger food in the front room with the tv on.) Wonder if DH would be excited at the prospect of Chinese. What do other people normally order? We usually get a beef chow mein with sweet & sour sauce between us and DH is nuts about chicken soup from the Chinese for some reason.

warthog · 13/05/2008 19:41

well i was naughty and bought a crispy duck from m&s as a treat. so looking forward to it! oven is warming up...

sarah, sorry they were so damned insensitive. they just don't realise the impact they have. they kept telling me dd was very underweight and were worried etc. but she looked fine! was chubby and happy and eating well. so i just stopped seeing the health visitor. had no problems.

try not to set too much store by the appointment in 2 weeks. you should go, but there's nothing you can do. you've already done the best thing you can - give up smoking! and what a huge achievement. don't let them belittle it for you.
