monkeytennis · 12/05/2008 13:12

Hi there, Im due on the 2nd August and new to this whole mumsnet malarky! Are any of you in the Glasgow area?

warthog · 12/05/2008 13:51

hi all,

sorry haven't been back to this thread for a while. all is fine with pregnancy including ditzy brain - turned up for an antenatal app only to find it was the wrong day. had arranged child care etc. arghghgh

i'm going to have a girl! i have one dd who's 2.

anyone else struggling with this heat?

dizzydixies · 12/05/2008 13:55

hi monkeytennis welcome to the thread - am in fife but from glasgow area originally, we also have a babies in scotland thread if you haven't found it already!

warthog great to hear you're keeping well and congrats on your new girl news!

miamla with all that going on is it worth going? would you not being better using being heavily pg as an excuse and not putting yourselves through it?

warthog · 12/05/2008 14:07

hey miamla,

it's really tough isn't it? i struggled when i left my first ever home. i moved into my dh's flat and he didn't understand my emotional attachment either!

i think the thing to do is to start concentrating on your house - how will you decorate it / what will go where / investigate the area / think up nice things you can do there on the weekend / how you'll enjoy the space with baby around.

just keep focussing on the positive. this is a home that your partner will emotionally invest in too, and it'll be your baby's first home!

one last thing i did was take photos of every room on a normal day, NOT the day you're leaving or with things all packed up. then you can always look back with fond memories and remember it the way it really was, with you living there.

warthog · 12/05/2008 14:09

hello dizzydixies! is it tough being pg with two dd's to look after? i'm coping ok with one - what would it be like with two???

dizzydixies · 12/05/2008 14:13

warthog luckily dd1 is nearly 5 and she is a dream, dd2 not so much but getting there, they are at nursery in the mornings until I finish work in June and then I'll be tearing my hair out

they get on well, most of the time, so that helps a lot too

warthog · 12/05/2008 14:42

can you keep them on in nursery for a little bit to get a break and prepare?

which reminds me - anyone else get irritated by people clucking 'oooh - nesting' when you try to sort the-pigsty-that-is-your-home out before baby comes? errr - well i'm not going to do it after!! drives me nuts.

pregnancy1 · 12/05/2008 14:51

Hmmm. Well, I've never been the neatest person and the nesting instinct certainly hasn't hit in yet. Should it have done?

Also, how much weight should I have put on at this stage (26 weeks) - I'm between 12-14 pounds at the mo. Is that normal or am I becoming a giant heff?

warthog · 12/05/2008 15:08

ah - well living in a one-bedroomed flat, all of us will be sleeping in the same room and there's far too much stuff around!

the house we're renovating will be ready to moving in about a month AFTER the baby is born. i need to sort my crap out now!

warthog · 12/05/2008 15:09

i make it a policy never to weigh myself, but i reckon i've put on a couple of stone...

miamla · 12/05/2008 15:15

you've all made me teary again for being so understanding!
i reckon the best thing to do is to sort out exactly what is going where etc in our new house. i might even do some floor plans this afternoon. i wished i'd thought of photos a few weeks ago because most of our things are in boxes already and littering up the living room already.
thanks girls, despite making me cry, its good to know that i'm not the only one affected by moving like this! sorry to those i've upset with my tale!

on a happier note, i'm doing a survey on tummy buttons with you all.... if yours was an "innie" before pg, is it now an "outie"? if yes, when did it pop?
mine has been threatening on popping for about a week now but is still just about an innie!

pregnancy1 · 12/05/2008 15:33

I had the world's deepest belly button before - seriously, could fit my little finger in up to the first knuckle, which I don't suppose helps unless you've seen my fingers - v long skinny fingers (bah pregnancy brain hits again) and it's still an innie at 26 weeks, but only just. My DH talks to bean every night encouraging her to push it out as he knows it is freaking me out (tmi?).

miamla · 12/05/2008 16:04

pregnancy1...that's exactly what my tummy button was like and how i feel about it popping out!! DP has been trying to manipulate it out himself! i am not telling him about your DH otherwise he'll start the same cunning plan of enlisting Pip's help!

cyteen · 12/05/2008 17:44

Belly buttons: mine is still definitely in, but the fluff at the bottom is getting closer to the surface. I try not to investigate too much though as I have a mortal horror of fingers in bellybuttons, completely inexplicable but it makes my skin crawl

warthog the heat is mangling me also. Yesterday was just ridiculous! Mind you, my DP was wiped out by it as well and he's usually fairly robust, so that just proves that it was undealable-with. Congrats on your girlie bundle Any names lined up yet? We had billions of girl names to choose from, so are inevitably having a boy.

So I have heard back from HR about my contract, and apparently it's been extended for 3 months while my boss makes his case for my post to be ongoing (it's part of a wider strategy thing he's doing, all very complicated here). In the meantime I have been looking at my annual leave and realised I've got not one month's allocation left, but two! Theoretically I could go on a/l from pretty much the start of June and still not start my mat leave until two weeks before my due date. This requires some serious thinking...

Wow, you step out for a few hours and WHAM. Loads of chatter on here today. That's so nice. Glad to see Warthog and Shazza. Nice to meet you Monkeytennis. Dizzy loved the wedding story. I don't like my SIL either and was forced to be around here Saturday when I felt my worst.....she even asked if she could touch my belly.HELL NO!!

I've just updated the list. GIRLS and BOYS are TIED!!!

Miamla I find moves very emotional. You put down roots. It's only normal to feel blue when you move. The good thing is you begin to root again in your new location and soon you find you miss the old location less and less. Having a baby to focus on soon will also help ease the pain.

Well my antibiotic is WORKING. My head is clearing and my lungs too. Amazing I didn't realize HOW BAD I really felt until I started to feel good again.

I bought newborn diapers today. Times flying!! Won't be long now. Should we start a poll to see who we think will go first {excluding the elective CSecs}??

Oh and I was an innie and now I'm just FLAT {is that considered an outie}.

OP posts:
miamla · 12/05/2008 18:58

no no no a flatie is definitely not an outie (otherwise mine's already there!)

warthog · 12/05/2008 19:12

yes, innie here and now flattie. same first time round...

that's the thing, miamla - look forwards. it will be tough. have a really nice treat planned on the day you move, even if it's just a nice takeaway curry, and indulge in a cry on your dh's shoulder.

cyteen, we haven't come up with a name yet. seems harder the second time round! have you got any favourites yet? i think the idea of a couple of months off before the baby comes is a lovely one! you could get all sorts of things done or just go on hols if you feel like it.

hello twilightsurfer - recognise your name from around - perhaps we've chatted? glad you're feeling better.

Buckets · 12/05/2008 19:21

Hey, mine's like TS, innie gone flat. There's always a stitch of muscle at the top that just prevents it turning out when I'm pg.
Have been out in the sunshine today. Kept DD off school as she'd had a temp and tummy ache last night but she was actually fine so we went to the playpark by the waterfront in town as it has a big sandpit. Had ice cream but stopped short of lunch out which is V restrained for me.
Re nesting: for me it's all about decor rather than cleaning.

pregnancy1 · 13/05/2008 08:22

TMI warning.....
Is it wrong to want to celebrate because you had your first poo without bleeding in a week? Still felt like I'd passed an elephant, but feeling slightly smug.... I'm thinking you probably didn't want to hear that

Bu then if I can't share it here, where can I share it? Nope, still no justification, will go and sit in a corner looking embarrassed now.

sarahnh · 13/05/2008 08:26

morning ladies,

I'm in trouble and need help.. i'm spotting :-(

Its not very much but sorry tmi a little on my panty liner and when i wipe...

Had anyone else had this? Im 27 weeks

alittlebitshy · 13/05/2008 09:27

sarah - try not to panic. HOnestly.
I presume by now you've called your midwife. If not, do so now. I am sure it's nothing worrying, but you are going to panic until you get it looked at.

cyteen · 13/05/2008 09:47

sarah, hope you're being reassured right now Keep us posted.

pregnancy1 don't be embarrassed re. poo news - the last time I had a normal bowel movement I wanted to tell the world! Anyway, I have disgraced myself already on another thread talking about my poo so you're not alone. It's weird though, everyone is happy to discuss their children's poos in great detail it seems - people are always telling me I'll be obsessed with nappy contents once the baby's here - but for some reason our own are still taboo...still, I won't go into it again, just wanted to say I'm happy for you

warthog Names, names, names...we've got three we like so far (Alexander, Edmund, Vincent) but can't agree on anything else. A friend is lending us a baby name book though, so I'm anticipating many happy hours of going through it and making outrageous suggestions to each other. Re. the maternity/annual leave, I must say that the idea of having 2 months' paid leave is a sweet one. I've got lots to do for my university course before I suspend pending the baby's birth, so it would actually be a great help to not have to think about work. Going to discuss it with HR later in the week and go from there.
